Hi All,

 

Just after a bit of advice. I own a MK1 2001 (Y Plate) ford focus hatchback 1.4. I was recently having a problem with the cars performace due to a misfire on pot 2. I changed the plugs, leads and coil, the car now runs like new, no complaints, however the engine warning light is still on. I disconnected the earth from the battery for 30 mins to reset the car and the light went out. This morning i switched the car on and the light is back. Any idea's what i can check how to check it.

Sounds like there is still a problem with number 2... Have you got a code reader? this would be the biggest help!

 

If not, remote the sparks and check them for any corrosion or carbon buildup, it could be just a cleanup / replace job...

I pulled the plugs lastnight to see what state they were in and all seemed ok, ok no.2 did look a little browner on the porcelane than the other 3 but much that it looked fubar. The car does appear to be driving ok, so i'll wait ill the end of the month and buy a code reader, see what the crack is.

Just watch that you do get a code reader compatible with your car, you are only just in the year where it became standard, but your car may have been produced just before OBDII was standard, although registered in that year...

Try starting and switching the car off and on 6 times if the faults cleared then the light should go out after the sixth start if not theres an issue sonewhere

Never knew that one arts, is this for all Fords?

I believe so it was my ford neighbour that told me the car automatically clears certain faults after x amount of successful starts between 6 and 10 starts certainly worked on mine
