picked up a car I bought today and only the front passenger side I hear road noise in the rain, it doesn't happen when road dry nor does it happen over road humps, its the exact sound that you hear if the window is open a bit and your driving on wet roads, the tyre on the road noise, what can be causing this as annoying me :P windows was closed and door was also properly closed , can is a 2005 mondeo 1.8 petrol 56k

I get the same with my mk2.5 Focus. Think it's just a Ford-ism

I had a neb round, no evidence of mis-alignment or damaged seals

ive looked at the door that is seems to be coming from and I noticed that door isn't flush like the other side, it sticks out slightly so I am wondering if that is where I am hearing the noise from whether its a replacement door or something is there anyway of aligning door

SeanW
Where abouts does the door not align?
midsdr

the side of door where handle side is, run my hand down that side of the door and its not flush

SeanW

I'm assuming you have no problem closing/locking the door?

If it's towards the top, could suggest that somebody has hung off the door or yanked at it for whatever reason.  In which case, a little gentle persuasion to pull it back into line may help.  (Be careful though!)

midsdr

there is no problem closing or locking the door, it seems to mainly start near area door handle is upwards, not sure if been in a accident or replacement door or something, its hpi clear but doesn't mean everything does it, I wouldn't know where to start trying to get it in place :/

SeanW

I locked my keys in my old Punto once (well, twice - don't ask lol) and the recovery agent basically pulled the top of the door away from the frame in the process...took a few bends back to get make it fit properly again

jeebowhite

sounds like a replacement door. have a look at where it meets the open hinge, does it look like it could have been loosened / moved?

midsdr

took car to a bodyshop local to get them to have a look and they adjusted doors free of charge took about 2 mins :D

jeebowhite

nicely sealed up again?

midsdr

HI again  doors are now in line ;) but I have noticed the passenger side floor carpet is a bit damp so

i pulled the carpet up on that side a bit to have a nose, no idea what i am looking for but thought id look ;) as soon as i pulled carpet up a plug come up too so not sure if that was maybe loose or off before i pulled carpet up i am not sure, i also felt that sponge like material near front of footwell and that was wet, so i dont know where to start to find out what is happening, not sure if it would be from that drain hole in the floor, ps what the hell is that, i hope its meant to have a hole in the floor :P or whether from the front end of the car, i noticed the cowl bit if that is what it is called wasnt sealed to the windscreen on the passenger side but garage said that wont cause no problems the driver side is attached to windscreen but passenger isnt, can anyone help at all

jeebowhite
OK so the grommet sounds to have come loose which can happen. Reattach this secure it with silicone and then just work a way to dry the car out. Dehumidifier is one option or hairdryer and patience is another.

the scuttle panel on the passenger side of the windscreen has to be removed to access the pollen filter, its common for the panel not to be sealed against the windscreen after a pollen filter replacement, if the panel is not fitted right water will leak through the pollen filter onto the passenger side carpet.

jeebowhite

Also given that the fuseboard is in the passenger footwell... that is another reason that it needs to be fixed properly!

midsdr

with the bad rain we had the passenger side footwell was soaking :( i have taken car to ford to get sorted as want it done properly they have done water check and its the housing of the pollen filter and pollen filter and seal all gone the pollen filter is warped too they are sure this is the fault

jeebowhite

whats the damage to the bank account?

midsdr

£153

jeebowhite

not tooo disastrous, bad, but could have been a lot worse!

midsdr

i just hope that is it and it will sort the water leak, i really hope taking it to a ford garage that the fault will be sorted :) so then it will be worth the 153 :P

jeebowhite

Very true indeed! well let us know how it goes?

midsdr

i usually take my car to peugeot specialists lol as been going to them for ten years and trust them but with this water leak, i was straight to ford, just hope they fix it or i will kick their asses :D they said they was very sure it was coming from there as they said they stripped it down and could see filter was very old and housing was warped
