Hi

I hope I am on correct forum as new to this one, I just wondered if anyone has had the problem

that my car is having, I have a 2012 mondeo zetec  2.0 litre diesel.

it is used as a taxi and has 26000 miles on clock, I have noticed on occasion that car

idles poorly with rev counter jumping from the usual 750rpm idle up to around 850

and down to 500rpm, when this is going on car seems to be backfiring slightly

this can last for several minutes and then car return's to usual idle

when this first happened I put it down to dpf regeneration, ? but it seems to be happening

more often now at first it was once a week or so, then twice but yesterday it happened again

And the day before, so am getting concerned , it will clear up if you drive in a lower gear for a mile or so

But is becoming a pain apart from that I like car. am taking it to dealers soon as due oil change shortly

I am no expert on diesels, but I would think a fuel filter change may help.

your EGR could be sticking maybe, but you'd have to check.or fuel filter

,mmm. unusual for taxi driver to give up a car at 26k unless he knows something you dont, maybe. i would(as btmaldon says),check filter,EGR valve, then if that doesnt work, get someone to plug it in toFord IDS,& see what comes up. cant see it being anything severe though unless said taxi drivers been using bio-diesel etc.(& a lot do,up here).

could be something silly like a sensor, but really, you're only going to find that out if you plug it in.

other day I saw a BMW with very similar symptoms to you,& it WAS his DPF. Mechanic stuck it in a bucket of cleaner for a day, then revved the hell outta car,& problem solved.i was amazed at the stuff that came outta the exhaust when revving it to clean it

Thanks I seem to have confused with the way I wrote post , I am a Taxi driver, and have only had car 9000 miles

But I will have filter renewed and get them to check egr and if required get them to stick it on their equipment

Cheers help much appreciated I have decided to contact dealer

So hopefully it will be something as simple as you have suggested
