had diagnostic today as engine light been for few days came up p0400 egr malfunction can the valve be cleaned etc or does it need replacing car drives great still????

yes the valves can be cleaned, here is a guide for a mk3, mk2 is basically the same but the valve could be in a different location. its a messy job but well worth the effort.

the valve can be claened, had the same problem with tdci, just depends on where the valve is to how hard it is to clean it, cloges up cause of the exhaust gas being recirculated back into the cold air and it builds up carbon, just need a wire brish and some WD40, will do the trick
