My Escort 1.6 Zetec LX is really over heating when using low gears in slow moving, any ideas?

Are you sure it's overheating?
How far does the temp gauge go up?
Does the electric fan come on?
Have you checked the coolant level?(when cold)
Is it loosing coolant?
Are there any signs of coolant leaking?

Hi,

I agree with the above Fords run cool. My Escort doesnt even go off the first white mark and only goes a bit above it if in traffic. My Escort before that was the same and my Fiesta. My friends Escort is also the same.
