When I change UP (not down seemingly) and very slightly mismatch the revs, there isa squeak/squeal as the clutch bites. If I change gear very gently it doesn't happen. And if I accelerate very hard it doesn't seem to happen either, although it could just be that it is very quick and I don't hear it.
Generally it pulls well, doesn;t judder etc.
So any ideas? Clutch plate? Thrust bearing? I read in another forum that WD40 might "do the trick" but I can't imagine what to do with the WD40 other than block my ears with it.
The car has done 40000 miles, much of which has been town and it's a 5 years old 1.6 petrol.

hey, my 2004 focus also does this its only done 47,000 miles, its a rare thing though but stil a bit embrassing when ur just pulling of slowley or something and it squeeks lol i thought it was just me as ive not been driving and this is my 1st car. I have no idea whhat it is though or to fix it but its nice in a strange way to know its not just me hearing things!

Well mine does it too, same age and mileage! first did it pulling out of my sons drive a bit quick turning right...thought it was tyre squeal from the unloaded tyre. soon discovered it did it occasionally in a straight line and is most likely the clutch thrust

haha bloodey edge's! the rear drums are now squeeking i give up trying to keep up with my focus these days. still goes sweet as a nut though just slightly more loudley than it used to thanks to a combo of the clutch and the brakes!! will be fixing the latter though on sunday when i get the time think they just need a clean. Slightly off topic but do your focus's scratch quite easily, being a student and having to leave my beloved in a college carpark i often find new little marks and scratches on her all the time and being tonic blue they show up a b*****d

Yeh, mine goes well enough and handles well, brake squeal on mine goes when they've warmed up, only get it on damp/wet days. ya gotta luv Fords at least the heater works after about 100yrds

The squeal you mention is from the clutch plate. Escorts used to do the same thing. It's just where the plate develops a 'glaze' on the surface and just slips for a fraction of a second. You can cure it by changing the clutch but I should'nt worry

Yer you should get ball park 80K out of a clutch, sod the odd squeal.
