My digital mileage (not the main mileage) has started resetting itself to zero on it's own accord intermittently. This is very annoying when I am trying to see which brand petrol lasts the longest.

It's a 1999 1.6 petrol that has recently had an engine swap. Any clues ?

did you also swop ecu? could be a sensor problem also.

Sorry, don't know what an ECU is.
