Hi there , new here so hi all , my focus 1.6 zetec s failed its mot on emmisions , high on all 3 things co , hc and lamb thing , told its burning oil , had sensors checked and there working ok
did oil change and it then passed on co but failed other 2 , question is why is it burning oil , not using water so guessin not head gasket , has been burning oil for past year , last
year failed on emmisions so garage put new cat on and it passed , i only got car last week for cheap
could it be as simple as changing cat now just to get mot , only want car until march next year then will
be scraping it so just to get test would a cat do ?
no a bit about cars so could change seals in engine if needed however which one would be gone , seen a full seal kit on ebay for £75 ?
any ideas guys , car has done 145k and previous owner didnt look after it oil changed 3 times in 6yrs!!

any help would be good

High HC indicates burning oil. Is your tail pipe black inside?
There are 2 main reasons for burning oil:
-broken stem seals
- piston rings.
Both are not the cheapest to fix, but can be done. Stem seals can be replaced without taking the head out but it requires removal of camshafts and cambelt.

Sounds like the new cat last year worked, but then all the burning oil has crudded up the cat again.

Need to fix the oil leak and get yourself a new cat too.
