does an escort 1997 have alarm and immobiliser as standard anyone know?

Hi
You Escort will have the PATS system on it. (passive anti theft system.)
This is in the form of an engine immobiliser. When the engine is off. you will have a small red light flashing on the dashboard. (by the clock I think) This shows that the immobiliser is active. and a red or blue chip on your key if you do not have remote central locking. If you do have RCL the PATS chip is hidden inside the key.
An alarm was not standard it was an optional extra at that time.
PATS also governs how any additional keys are programed to the car.

ok ta.Thinking of putting keyless entry with alarm, pretty straight forward to wire up as far as i know!

You can do it.
As for how easy it would be that just depends on what system that you choose to use.
