  2. Car was (and still is) booked in to garage tommorrow, just got in from work having waited 3 hrs for recovery (thats another story!) Basically shortly after starting and turning the steering wheel to reverse out of my parking space, the steering suddenly lost all PAS and subsequently had to call out breakdown guys, turns out the cause of the rattle must have been a loose 'idler pulley bearing', this had failed causing the belt to come off, remnants of the part in the floor pan of engine compartment, hopefully not an expensive repair and only happened at 0 mph! i dread to think of the consequences if it occured yesterday whilst doing 80mph on the M2! thanks for all replies, last and hopefully final update tommorrow!
  3. Just to update further, took local garage, test on alternator shows thats working ok, possibly a problem with the starter motor itself, there is still the 'noise' as described earlier that is coming from the cam belt area, going in for further diagnosis tommorrow!
  4. thanks for replies so far, i would also add the last couple of mornings it has been more sluggish turning over, i took it for a good 100mile round trip think the battery could do with a good charge, in view of last comment re alternator .... a possible cause? await further advice. Adrian

Hi, over last couple of days noticed 'differant (rougher/rattley/tapping)' not anything severe but just a noticable differant noise from under the bonnet as opposed to the usual smoother sound, taking in to fords for a check tomorrow just incase it needs attention. i'm wandering if the cam belt would need changing, i can not see any evidance in the service history that i have of it being done. service history todate: sept 01 mileage 17687 - Ford annual service sep 02 mileage 26554 - Ford annual service may 03 mileage 30072 - major service (no details) may 05 mileage 38625 - Annual service may 08 mileage 49591 - Annual service april 10 mileage 53548 Annual service i have had the car just prior to getting it serviced in april, mileage now 59560 any advice on whether i'm looking at a cam belt change / water pump drive belt etc (assume both would be done same time) and likely charges from Fords / non Fords would be appreciated.   7. Thanks artscot79, i think i will leave a while and keep an eye out for some s/h ones, i was considering buy some readily available 'door seal' type rubber, cutting to suit and glueing to the white plastic bit that remains. adrian
  8. Hi, Can anyone recommend best place to order replacement Rubber seals that run across the top of the Headlamp units, both mine have perished and subsequently just left with the white plastic bit attached to the lamp units. thanks Adrian
  9. Phew!, Just to advise my problem was with the accelerator pedal, so i'm pleased its not fuel pump related! New pedal on order for fitting tommorrow. Hope i'm not posting any thing new next week lol! Adrian

  11. Hi, just wondered if my problem could be as simple as a filter change??? - see my post re Focus breakdown yeterday. The car was previously owned by an old guy only doing short trips, covering apprx 4k mile in the 2 years following its last service in May 08. Car lost power yesterday and glo plug light flashing, booked into fords tommorrow so will know outcome then, just anxious that it may something expensive connected to fuel pump etc, but hoping it may something as simple a new filter / service?
  12. thanks for your pointers as to what the problem might be, watch this space Monday eve for my post confirming its all fixed and cost?? or not fixed and needs a new...? i shall keep fingers crossed that the fix is an affordable one.
  13. a bit of info on the cars service history, only 53400 miles todate, last service at 49,000 in May 08, had done 17500 in its 1st year and a half then averaging about 3000 a year. i'm hoping the problem isnt anything too serious /costly, had been running fine all week, just a little lumpy on acceleration before finally losing power quite quickly and having to pull over.

I didnt think i'd be on my second post in as many days lol, just had my focus a week, was on a trip out this morning about 10 miles from home,sudden loss of power, glo plug warning light flashing, bit of smoke out the back! Pulled over and had the car recovered back to Ford garage (conveniently opposite where i live!) Any ideas guys as to problem? i know its in the best place at the moment, just hope it wont cost an arm and a leg! Started ok by the way off the recovery lorry. Having MOT and interim service same time. adrian

Just to let you know tried some wd40 via the straw around the internal door lock (did go through panel so must av got some behind aswell) also the door lock outside then with window down and trying key in door whilst pushing the lock, it freed itself! Going back to before this happened and also same now when i try locking all doors via remote or drivers door they wont lock unless i manually push the door lock on the passenger door 1st (i guess this does move remotely or via the drivers side as it is still needs losening up somewher in the mechanism. works fine now via key in passenger door, at least i can get the door open now lol! adrian
