  1. Hi, I ended up taking the car to the dealership and they did a firmware update on the audio system. According to the service advisor, the vehicle did report a couple of odd faults (he seemed to think it was a firmware corruption) when hooked up to the diagnostic system. This seemed to have fixed the issue, but I do recall having it happen once or twice afterwards, but not as bad as before. Unfortunately, I can't say if it was a long term fix as I have sold the car roughly 3 months after the post above and I haven't driven it very often during this time. I suggest you try the firmware update first (it should be done for free at the dealership) and take it from there. Take care, J
  2. Hi everyone, Please excuse my ignorance if this has been discussed here before. I did search, but I might not have used the correct keywords. Since last night, the steering wheel audio controls on my 2009 MK7 Titanium started acting up. At first the volume (+) button stopped working, then the volume (-). I switched off the radio for a while and then the volume (-) button became the volume (+) button, as in pressing the volume (-) button increases the volume! For a while everything worked correctly again, but this morning only the volume (-) button (which still thinks it's the volume (+) button) works. The skip forward & backward buttons don't work at all now. Leave the radio off or play with the buttons long enough and it works OK or at least some of the buttons start working. The buttons on the audio unit itself work fine. I'm baffled by this. Could it just be corrupt firmware or something other than a hardware fault? Please, any suggestions would be appreciated. I'm going to the dealer later today/tomorrow, but I suspect that their first resort will be to remove the audio unit and/or steering wheel controls. I'm hoping that this can be avoided. I don't need more rattles... Thanks.
  3. The side view is the best view... Does not want.
  4. I did the same. Only difference is mine has the rear diffuser and I only installed two sensors. Four would have worked better, but would not have looked as good. I only did it to see if I can do it. I got the kit for free. The drilling part is definitely not for the faint hearted... Works well enough.
  5. Yeah, there definitely is a language barrier. I tried to find out if I could order the inserts only from them (they order the grille and inserts and then sell it as a kit), but the replies very quite random. I also could not get him to confirm the part numbers to make double sure that the inserts would even fit in the grille that I already have. I'm not saying not to deal with them. Not at all. Overall, he was quite helpful and quick to respond. It just did not work out for me and I ordered the inserts locally instead. I did manage to negotiate a decent discount, so it's not all bad news. Now just the wait... Thanks again for everyone's input.
  6. Thanks again for the reply everyone. I installed the Philips Blue Vision bulbs and I am fairly happy with them. They look nowhere near as good as the LEDs (especially during the day), but they look a lot better than the stock yellowish ones. I installed the LEDs as number plate lights and although they look good, they STILL turn off/dim after they have been on for a while. I'll be replacing them with the Blue Visions too then. NIce waste of $25 - at our local rip-off pricing. I haven't given up on LED's; I'll try another brand at least too. Thanks for the suggestions Liverpool-S. I'll post a pic a bit later. Unfortunately the car is in the auto shop for a day or two. I drove over a speed bump (which I obviously did not see :( ) on Friday and scraped the front lower spoiler. Not too bad, but still. The car is very low with the Titanium body kit. In fact, nearly an inch lower than my C63 when it's in comfort suspension setting.
  7. Thanks, I'm rather fond of them myself. Wish I could fit them on the Fiesta :D It's an X5 - due for replacement soon.
  8. Thanks for the replies everyone. Just to clarify, I'm not worried about the heat from the LED bulbs themselves, but the heat given off by the high beam behind them. These LED lights give off hardly any heat at all and are cool to the touch even after being on for quite a while. What worries me is that they switch off after a while when the main beams are turned on. I've Googled it a bit more and found a few results where the main beams caused the LED bulbs to fail after a couple of months. One Lotus driver reported the same issue as I am having with the Philips LEDs - the lights overheat and turn off/dim. Once they cool down (when the mains are switched off) they turn back on again. Either way, I'm going to replace them with these, just to be safe: Philips Blue Vision W5W Just having some trouble finding them locally.
  9. Here are some comparison photos. The LEDs are obviously on the left. Excuse the condition of the car. It was pouring down at the time. At least it got to spend a couple of minutes in the garage :D. It has to sleep outside. Are there any other normal lights that I can use that will give a similar effect?
  10. Hi Everyone, I've just installed the Philips LED W5W lights as parking lights on my car (Titanium MK7 with projector type headlights). I am very pleased with the way they look, but I am concerned that they might melt due to the heat from the main beam (H1) just behind them. I have noticed that they go off after a while (about a minute) when the main beams are on. If you switch the main beam off, they remain off but they immediately turn back on when you switch the lights off and back on again. I don't suppose this is normal? I've never really taken notice with the standard lights. My biggest concern is that they might melt and damage the wiring or worse, the light assembly itself. I can't imagine it being cheap to replace... The website claims that they are "heat resistant", but I suppose that depends on the headlight's layout and how much heat it can handle before no longer being "resistant". Does anybody have any experience with these or other LED lights as parking lights? Am I better off getting normal blue lights instead? The main beams are OEM standard ones, in case that's relevant info. I've recently upgraded the dipped beams to Philips Xtreme Power ones. Any advice appreciated. PS: I know that the LED's are ever so slightly not road legal.
  11. Thanks for the confirmation. I'm currently in correspondence with EP to see if I can order the inserts only from them, since I already have the grille. I'll post updates in case anyone is interested.
  12. Can't you import it via European Parts? At least you probably get all the rest of the goodies available on the Fiestas(?) Locally we hardly have any options. Here's what we don't have available as standard or options on any model (the ones I can think of now): Leather seats (I've retrofitted), climate control, cruise control, light & rain sensors, PDC front or rear (I've fitted rear sensors myself), heated seats, heated windscreen, Sony radio upgrade, keyless entry & keyless go, traction control (only the automatic Trend spec has it ), folding mirrors & rear view camera. At least the Fiesta does offer some style at a reasonable price (even at the local rip-off prices we are paying for them) unlike most other cars in this price range that's so bland/boring/generic looking that you feel like crying when the garage door opens and you see it. Also, a guy can drive them without feeling your testosterone levels decreasing, like in some of the other more "girlie" looking small cars.
  13. Hi Chris Ecc, Could you perhaps confirm if this is an OEM Ford grille or a third party product? Reason why I'm asking is that I am currently corresponding with someone from EP and he said that they may have some loose inserts available, but I'm not sure if they would even fit the new OEM grille I bought. I'd be quite disappointed wasting money and especially time ordering something from overseas which I can't do anything with (like the new grille I currently have occupying valuable garage real estate space )
  14. @ RCJ & ZETEC7881 Thanks for the replies. Yes, it seems to be the exact same grille. I saw the grille on EP prior to ordering it from Ford locally. At the time (based on the estimates Ford gave me on the inserts) it seemed to work out a lot cheaper to buy it locally... I have e-mailed them and asked what the shipping charges would be to South Africa and if it is an OEM grille. I also enquired if the inserts could perhaps be purchased separately from them, since I already have the grille. It does not fit perfectly in my car's bumper at the bottom part, but I'm sure I would be able to make it work. It would really update the look of the car's front and would go nice with the fog light surrounds. I'll post updates here, in case anyone's interested.
  15. Hi everyone, I have a 2009 Fiesta 1.4 Titanium 3dr South African spec vehicle. I want to change the front grille insert to the new Sport (I think known as Zetec elsewhere) grille with the chrome inserts. I bought the grille itself from Ford locally. At the time they could not give me price on the chrome inserts (50-YA4 & 50-YA5) and tow hitch cover (50-YA3). I figured I would order the grille in the meantime. It was about $100 (converted from ZAR). Today they came back with prices on the trim parts: 50-YA4 & 50-YA5 = $133 EACH! 50-YA3 = $40! To add insult to injury, they can't give me any indication when they will be in stock. Considering what the grille itself cost, I think this is outrageous. I've searched online for these parts, but can't seem to find them. The part numbers I have returns no usable results. Does anyone know of an online retailer that might have them at a more reasonable price or am I better off placing the order locally and wait patiently... Thanks.
