  1. Anyone know what the gap is? 2009 1.6 focus petrol. Thanks
  2. Thanks for the replies. I did speak to a engine reconditioning specialist, they quoted me £2600. I have been told that a second hand engine is more of a temporary fix i.e. Fix it so it can be sold to an unsuspected victim, which I couldn't do. Could it be easier to rather than recondition, but replace the broken parts with new ones? Don't really want to give up on her! I live in Colchester, Essex. South east. Again, thanks for the replies.
  3. Hi, My car has been in the garage today (Ford dealership) after my turbo blew, as well as my turbo being knackered, they say that due to parts of the turbo breaking up, a new engine is needed. Unfortunately I'm not willing to pay £3800 to have that fitted! Luckily, I am not in a place where I need to sell the focus to fund my next one, so as I've always been interested in mechanics and have a big empty garage, I am looking into reconditioning it myself.... Firstly, I have all the time in the world, I aim to take the engine out, take it to bits, clean the whole thing and replace any parts with brand new, genuine Ford parts. Now I know that its not going to be as straight forward as I'd hope, but like I said, I've got loads of time to take my time over this, do it properly and be very thorough. Now I am a complete novice, I'm not going to lie. Any information people can offer me, books I should read or anything that will help me in the slightest is much appreciated. I love the focus so much that I can't bare to watch it turn into scrape for a few hundred quid! Not on my watch ! Thanks Phil
  4. Hi, I recently had a problem with my Focus 1.6 tdci 05 with the turbo going (120k on the clock so it had done well!) So it looks like I’ll be selling it as it is just to get rid of it. I’m looking to get a new car but I love the focus and love diesels so I’m looking to get the face lift model (2008 onwards). I’ve heard from various garages and people that the 1.6 engine is prone to having the turbo go. Is it just the 1.6 or is it across the whole diesel range of that model engine? I take it the engine is the same in the face lift model? Ideally I’m looking to get a 1.8 or 2.0 tdci focus, but I’m not sure whether I should in case this happens again? Although I am looking to spend a bit more and get a low mileage (under 40k) so whether I should be worried about until it gets above 100k? Any help is appreciated Thanks Phil
  5. Hi, Focus 1.6 tdci 2005 After my car making a whining sound once it hit around 2000rpm, I took it into the garage today only to be told that I need a new turbo! Great :( Mr mechanic said its going to be around £1000 to supply a new turbo, all parts (hoses etc...) and labour. Again, great... Now, unfortunately I don't have that sort of money lying around so I'm looking into supplying parts and fitting it myself. I have a haynes manual and it 'looks' pretty straight forward even though haynes are giving it a 4 out of 5 difficulty rating? Could anyone please shed any light on the work I am hoping to carry out? i.e. parts that must be replaced once removed, things I MUST do, or things that could go wrong if I were to not follow procedure correctly, apart from ruining the £500 turbo I would of paid for! Thank anyone who can help in advance! Phil
  6. I wish it was that easy! Completely random, it does it when I'm on my own (nothing on the seat) or with someone. Possibly, one of the most annoying sounds..... Especially after 15 minutes !
  7. Thanks Didn't think they would put something that old in a 6 year old car?? Especially when the cd player has bluetooth !! Any idea what what was originally there? Ashtray maybe? As there isn't any room for one anywhere else?
  8. Hi, Focus 05 Could someone help me find out what this is? (picture attached) It seems its some sort of old car phone connection maybe? I want to take it out but I'm worried there's going to be a hole left, what is meant to be there instead? Any help is appreciated Thanks Phil
  9. Hi, I have a focus 05. Is there any way to disengage the seat belt warning noise? I ALWAYS wear a seatbelt, it's just that it's going off randomly even when I'm all buckled up! Its sending me mental! There must be a way to turn it off? Thanks
  10. It does seem that the topic of conversation has been somewhat lost, but as all my answers hav been answered then gossip away! In response to the valuation, it is a very nice gift! Luckily for me it's a 'fully loaded' ghia, with full leather, heated seats, Bluetooth, automatic everything....... Very lucky guy indeed. I do however have some sort of adapter that slots into one of the cup holders up to the gear stick. Looks like something can be plugged in to it as it as connection, maybe a very old style car phone? I will upload a picture when possible.

  12. Was the haynes manual originally in colour then? This is the first one I have owned... I have that problem with my pc, when I reply to a post it shows a completely different time to when I check it later....
  13. Sorry but I meant that the he was charging £25 for each glow plug? I have a haynes manual so I'm sure I can find how to change the filter from there. If not, a description would be very useful. Thank you that and I will let you know how I get on with the haynes.
  14. 115k on the clock so probably the reason, no harm in changng filters though. It's got a mot next month so I'll get them to check over it.
  15. Thanks, will give the filter a check over and replace if need be. The mechanic tried to charge me 25 for each plus 60 labour....... Hmmmmm no thanks.
