  1. Feed To Coil Pack Faulty???

Just trying to make sure, hard to see in daylight, was a lot easier the other night! I swapped leads around (those that stretched (a bit) to rule out bad leads. But being an old sparks, absolutly hate getting belts :( :( :( Is there anything I can wear that a spark won't zap me through??? Wish you could just push n pull leads willy nilly, be loads quicker ;) Have just tried to test straight off the top of the coil with the engine running (stop start, one by one) but think its going to be quicker and easier with all the leads off and a helper to crank over one evening. so still not 100% 0n 1&4 or 2&3. Completely see where your coming from with the sillyscope and wiring/plugs, ta! I'll get there eventually especially armed with your info :) You have been very helpful Dan, Thanks Buddy, Rich.
  2. Feed To Coil Pack Faulty???

Excellent, Many thanks Dan. What should I be careful of if I wanted to pull the pack plug and crank her over? Surely I can use a crock clip in the pack plug and test swithing with my meeter between the 12v pin and one of the other two in turn?
  3. Feed To Coil Pack Faulty???

Hi, can anyone please tell me where my coil pack is fed from? My spark tester shows that I have two realy healthy sparks and two really weak sparks. I changed the pack and it's still the same. I noticed that there are three wires feeding the pack, how does the pack fire, should all sparks look the same or is it my tester, is one wire ground and the other two feeds or are they all feeds or one ground one a feed and the last a sensor/info wire? Is there a well known plug elsewhere that comes loose, a bad connection? Plug on the pack looks fine, what voltage should I have at the pack plug, how can I make a test at the feed side to the coil pack? Thanks, Rich.
  4. 52Plate Mk6 1.4 Gearbox (Petrol)

Morning, Fantastic Stef. Thanks! Funny, I was going to try and work out what else that nozzle could have been for, as it was on my mind that it really wasn't the box oil that came out. I will have to look harder for that black hex head that is the fill and level point other members have mentioned in g/b topic. Why do the answers to my questions come on the morning its raining that cold wintery/icy rain, not wishing to sound ungrateful buddy ;) . Just have to drink plenty of tea today I geuss n light a fire somewhere nearby (or manup ). Hopefully you have helped me in the nick of time and overted us having another seased box :D . Thanks again Stef, have a nice warm day ;)
  5. Hi, I had to have a different gearbox fitted after only driving my 52plate 1.4 duratec for a week back in January. Found it's getting a bit rough/notchy again and noticed loads of oil leaking from the drivers side driveshaft seal. Have got a new seal to fit, am wondering if all I need to do is undo the clamp, lower the shaft (?by letting the nuckle drop?) and pull on the shaft to pop it out?????? Wishfull thinking, right!!! Will I have to undo anything on the strut? How do I drain my gearbox oil before I start? How do I top up my gearbox oil and to what level, when finishing? Actually I've just found a black plastic nozzle on the gearbox that a lil hose fits onto, I twisted it and clear oil came out. Smells a bit like break fluid. Thanks, Rich. :)
  6. Which Ford Oil? 52Plate Mk6 1.4 Duratec (Petrol)

Great, Thanks James. That is what I have used.
  7. Oil Leak Gear Box?

    Thanks Dave
  8. Hi, I made it a weekly thing recently to dip my oil, check tyre presures and all other levels on a Friday morning. So, all I will need to do at the weekend is wash n hoover it, right :D !! If only!! I was bringing my boys home from footy after last Sundays match and stuck my foot down as we came up a bit of a climb. Not good, coughing and spluttering we were loosing power. I looked to see if we were low on petrol, maybe having sucked up some crud, nope, over half a tank remaining (afterall, I allways fill up so we do not suck up crud!). We nearly cut out a couple of times, then limped home. How come I had gotten so low on oil so quickly between checks and why had my oil warning light not come on? ok I may have missed a couple of Friday mornings but my warning lamp illuminates with all the others on start up! My airbag light came on while driving on the motorway the week before, could my lamps be crossed over or computer be confused.com? Anyhow we got home and I used some old cheap oil and the car sounded crap but lots better after a real good warm up. So this week I changed the oil, oil filter, air filter and spark plugs. The oil was a muddy brown colour not black??? Yes I can see metal flecks in it , no I can't see oil in my header tank. Which Ford oil should I have been supplied with? Is oil starvation a problem on these and where? Sounds like a bag of nails on start up untill warm :( Thanks, Rich.
  9. Oil Leak Gear Box?

Hi, I had to have a different gearbox fitted after only driving my 52plate 1.4 duratec for a week, (had to use the bus ). Hope you don't mind me posting on your post, yours was the only gearbox post I found so far. Will try to copy n paste this to a new post also. Thanks :)
  10. Mondeo Rear Brakes

So glad the kid next door threw in his old haynes manual when he sold me his 52 plate 2.0l tdci. The brakes and hand break needed attention, all sorts of probs n lots of faults. tick over lumpy, would stall pulling away, amber flashing glo plug warning. So after reading lots of posts on here I gave it a service (engine) with all original ford parts n oil. Replaced cam and crankshaft sensors then fitted new/reconditioned rear calipers, new/paten hand break cables, old ones looked ok but were completly knackered and put in a "better than my old condition", from the breakers, hand break lever! Well tickovers loads better, she leaps forward when i let up on the clutch now and the hand break is well on in three clicks but 2's fine. I love pulling that break on now ;) it was just so crap before. I left my old disks and pads on as the kid next door changed them last year n looked ok. For me it was the best decision biting the bullet and changing the lot, yes it was cold n lonely out their but my Dad did it for us so we could go on holiday in a nice safe motor when we were kids, now I'm doing the same for ours. My girl's got good at helping bleed brakes (as I did too with my dad), still a bit stinggiee with break fluid only give a few pumps more, will try 12 from now on ;) Good luck, it's well worth it, patients and persiverance got me through. And the thought of happy safe affordable motoring of course once I'd finished :D
  11. 02 Plate Fiesta I Bought Last Week.

Hi Nathan, my old box was like that going down into first, but that, I am sure, is just the ratio; engine speed and ground speed the car is traveling at. The fiesta is so light unloaded it almost pulls away in 2nd. Thats great because I don't even over rev to get enough speed up to change straight to 3rd (from 1st) and from 3rd straight into 5th. Yes I do drive around town at 30mph in 5th. After driving mk1 fiestas, Escorts/+estates, Mondeo estate (Big Red Bus) and the P100 truck it really is refreshing to be driving a nice light responsive easy to see over my shoulder car. Knipping back n forth to work in it is a joy and because its not all boyed up I'm pretty much sticking to the limmit + want to look after it ++ always trying to keep my turned over leaf turned over, if you know what I mean ;) Let you know what my new 2nd hand box is like but Dad drives his as I have described and say's it drives my mum mad. Ploding around town at 30 in 5th is a bit nuts maybe Appy travels :D , Rich.
  12. 02 Plate Fiesta I Bought Last Week.

Paul, £58 shocking!!! didn't you feel bad that you under payed, oh, sorry I'm thinking Essex prices where all mums drop their kids at the school gate in x5's and overfinch rangies or r8's. Well maybe dad's in R8's B)

  14. 02 Plate Fiesta I Bought Last Week.

Thanks Paul, hope it's fixed asap too, as I am loosing an hours work each afternoon so as to catch the bus home. Glad the dealer is being a gent and fixing it. He offered me a full refund this afternoon but it is such a nice little run a round :) May try and look for another mondeo, ours only had 76,000 on the clock and was written off two weeks ago Oh well the joys of motoring :D !!
  15. Nice little fiesta I bought last week, great lil car, gearbox shot and now its back with the dealer having another box fitted. Did the 1400 petrols have bad boxes? It sometimes started, clutch peddle depressed, without making a noise but then made nasty sounds when taking foot of clutch. It all very quickly got worse where letting the peddle up it sounded horrible let alone trying to drive it! I just new it would go bang If I drove it so a friend helped me tow it to the dealers garage. Their fitting a secondhand box as soon as they've sourced one. Hope it's all gonna be ok ;)
