  1. Zetec S Ecoboost 1.0

Next Saturday which is going to be a very exciting day for me. Only ever owned small city cars; Micra and currently Ka as i have thrown my money at the mortgage. So I think I owe myself a treat. Bigger sized cars on the road has lead to my concern for safety in the Ka as well - they call the ka, 500, Twingo etc city cars yet driving around city all I see is nice big Focus, A4, Q4 etc.
  2. Zetec S Ecoboost 1.0

Thanks for the response. I have read good feedback on the ZS and my only concern was durability of the engine and mpg but begining to realise I'm looking into it too much! Well I have done something I'm not used to which is 'impluse buying' (well not used to when it comes to large sum of cash that is)! I have secured a 5 month old Zetec S 1.0 125 with Leather styling pack, Privacy glass and City Pack for 13k . I'm well pleased :-)
  3. St-2 Mpg?

ST owner would need to advise on "gently" I agree a flawed question but I still wanted ones opinion on it :-) When I clicked post to my first message asking for ST mpg, I had made my mind up on ZS
  4. St-2 Mpg?

Thanks, would you say driving the ST gently (to achieve 40ish mpg) is likely to still be quicker than hammering the 1.0 123bhp and getting roughly the same mpg?
  5. St-2 Mpg?

Either my profile says I'm 17 or you have assumed I am, I'd like to be that 17 who could afford zs nevermind ST Haha. I haven't looked at insurance as I am 33yo with full clean licence 15y with 15 ncb.
  6. St-2 Mpg?

Ball park figure for 6 month old zs with heated seats etc is 14k. Ball park figure ST 2 17k The 3k different doesn't bother me what does is running costs so the zs is what im considering however. ... I'm reading on average people are getting 46mpg with Zetec S 1.0 123bhp Which is poor for today's standard especially as it is labelled as a eco car id expect 50-60mpg or greater. So knowing zs economy is not great my attention is turning more to ST. What sort of mpg is one getting in the ST2 driving sensibly and hammering it? I appreciate the ST will have higher insurance and has road tax but lets be logical about the tax free 1.0 you paying a high price for that engine thus effectively paying upfront for tax. If the ST produces near enough mpg to the zs in real driving then perhaps I shall treat myself to the ST instead.
  7. Zetec S Ecoboost 1.0

Thanks for the response. I know to expect less than the stats suggest but in the real world surely 55-60 as an average. 40s is poor for a new eco car especially at the price it costs to purchase . Im just weighing up value for money - tax free is not an incentive as effectively your paying upfront tax (cost of the car itself) to have that privilege. Be interesting to know what mpg mark2 ST owners are getting driving sensibly and hammering?
  8. Zetec S Ecoboost 1.0

Im looking at Zetec S or Titanium X 1.0 123bhp with some options thus bringing the cost close to ST. What sort of MPG should I be expecting driving sensible and hammering the 1.0 ecoboost 123bhp? According to the below links the average is 46.6 http://www.honestjohn.co.uk/realmpg/ford/fiesta-2008/10-ecoboost-125ps http://www.honestjohn.co.uk/realmpg/ford/fiesta-2008
  9. New Fiesta, Underpowered?

OP may have the same concern as me, durability as youd except the 1.25 82bhp to be kicking around longer than 1.0 80ps. Likewise the 1.4 99bhp against 1.0 100ps and 1.6 118bhp against 1.0 125ps. I admit after reading people's comments im now warming to the 1.0 engine :-)
  10. New Fiesta, Underpowered?

I'm not surprised. The mark 1 Ka has better power to weight ratio to Fiesta 1.25 82bhp. Ideally one should spec a Fiesta with 1.4 99bhp or 1.0 100ps as a minimum. I have test driven 1.25 82bhp myself and found it gutless in comparison to the mark 1 Ka I own. Subsequently I drove the 1.0 100ps and liked it and thought power was sufficient. I'm opting for the 125ps/123bhp as I just want a little more power.
  11. 1.0 Ecoboost Engine 123Bhp

Thanks for the responses. Im putting all my money into property thus intend to run car into ground. So want to make sure I get best value for money long term. I must admit after test driving the 100ps im very keen on a zetec s or titanium 123bhp.
  12. 1.0 Ecoboost Engine 123Bhp

So at 10 years old (approx 120, 000 miles) one should expect the 1.0 ecoboost engine to still be going strong in comparison to the older 1.6. Just if there is any doubt I'd rather get the 1.6 fiesta or older 2.0 focus or mondeo and expect these cars to rust before the engine failed.
  13. I am considering the Fiesta 1.0 ecoboost but am concerned with the durability of the 1.0 engine compared with the older 1.6 engine it replaces. Seems to me that the 1.0 engine is under considerable strain, whats peoples opinions? I appreciate that turbo charging is not new and that other manufacturers have already produced smaller engines churning out high power. I also appreciate that the 1.0 turbo-charged ecoboost is a new engine using new technology but the new ST uses a 1.6 turbo-charged ecoboost engine with 180bhp (with an apparent overboost of 200bhp) you'd expect with an output of 123bhp a 1.2 or even 1.3 turbo-charged ecoboost engine would have been used. Should I be concerned?
