  1. I needed to replace the front near side side light in my 2010 Galaxy. Ford Handbook says remove 2 screws - but there was only 1 (8mm socket). After removing the screw the bottom of the light unit was lose but the top was fixed solid. I know there are two tabs that need depressing but I could not get to them because of the bumper moulding. In the end I gave up removing the light unit and removed 3x 8mm bolts and 1x 10mm bolt from the under-bumper cover and 1x 8 mm bolt from inside the wheel arch. I then was able to bend the under-bumper cover just enough to get my hand in. Reaching the foglight bulb was easy but the sidelight bulb was difficult. I persevered and did it. It took over an hour. Now that I have figured it out I recon I could do it in half an hour. It would be better if I could figure out how to extract the light unit. All my older cars (pre 2000) were easy to change bulbs but everything I've had built after 2000 has been difficult and often involves removing of the entire lighting unit.
  2. Do you tow a caravan with a Powershift? If so have you had any problems with the powershift? We've had plenty. The fluid in the powershift unit gets 'cooked' after a few thousand miles and has to be changed. Our van's maximum weight is 1485 kg - well within the car specification. We've had so many problems that I want to find out whether it is just our car or not. So if you tow please share your powershift experiences.
  3. Sorry for delay in replying: been on vacation. The problem got worse. Car started to display 'Transmission Limited Function' after which only gears 1+3+5 would work or just 2+4+6. Switch off and on again and all gears worked though initial problems continued. Eventually had to have clutches replaced by Ford dealer. Cost £1200. That fixed problem (1) in original post and initially problems (2) + (3), but (2) + (3) came back. Then one day 'Transmission Limited Function' warning appeared and display said car was in gear 7!!! Car went back to dealer. It took the dealer two weeks to find out what was wrong. It turned out that when the clutch was replaced the speed sensor should have been replaced as well. It then took dealer a few weeks to get the part and fit. Dealer did this free of charge and gave me a free major service. This fixed (2) and (3). Issue (4) continued infrequently until I eventually worked out it was the cooling fan! I have no idea why the issue (4) tapping sound speeds up when the car speeds up because I would have thought the cooling fan would spin constantly, but it only occurs when the fan is on.
  4. 2010 2.0 TDCi Zetec been experiencing 'Transmission Limited Function' on dashboard. When the problem happens I put the car into manual and find that I only have gears 1, 3 & 5 or gears 2, 4 & 6. Switch engine off and on and all problems go away. I can drive several miles before it happens again. Its been back to Ford dealer several times and has had clutch assembly replaced. But last week when the 'Transmission Limited Function' warning appeared and I went into manual the dashboard said I was in gear 7. On previous occasions I have always had drive, but this time no drive at all. Also engine warning light came on. The car is back with the dealer. They've discovered they should have replaced a speed sensor when they replaced the clutch. But they can't explain gear 7 message. They have spoken to Ford technical but they've never heard of gear 7 being displayed either. Has anyone else heard of gear 7 being displayed?
  5. Several problems from PowerShift. (1) When driving at constant speed with constant pressure on throttle revs go up and down by 100/200 rpm every half second. I've uploaded a video at http://youtu.be/3Wxt-lXkZiU. When revs drop engine gets louder. (2) Gear changes are rough - in drive and manual. (3) Cold start there is often a clunk coming from the engine as if it is in D even though it is in P. Sometimes there is a crashing of gears. No levers or peddles are touched. (4) Occasional tapping sound from gearbox every half second when stationery then speeds up when in motion. Occasionally accompanied by hot smell from under the car (not the engine). I've been to Ford dealer but car always behaves itself when at the dealer.
  6. Just an update with the last two tank fills: Total miles 636.2, computer average MPG 49.8, litres to fill up 68.14, actual MPG 42.4, difference 7.4 15% Total miles 543.7, computer average MPG 50.1, litres to fill up 61.84, actual MPG 40.0, difference 10.1 20% Is the difference between your real MPG and what the computer reports so large?
  7. Galaxy 2010 2.0 diesel Zetec powershift. I've a very light footed driver and seldom use air-con etc. In my previous cars have got close to the official MPG. I reset the trip computer on every tank full and note the actual fuel used and compare the trip computer MPG for the tank compared to the actual fuel used. On every occasion I find the trip computer is about 5-10 mpg better than the actual fuel. For example the best ever MPG for a tank was 43.1 according to trip computer but the actual fuel used worked out at 36.8. Why is there such a difference between the two? What average MPG do you achieve?
  8. That makes sense - thanks for the answer.
  9. I have read through this, but the GEM for the Focus is different to the Galaxy/S-Max thus my asking for Galaxy/S-Max owners.
  10. But Cruise Control is an option on a Zetec which makes me wonder whether the wiring is in place or not, thus asking other owners to feedback their numbers.
  11. I'm trying to identify which cars are wired for cruise control and which are not and need your help. I've spoken to Ford Techincal Support but they can't help. Can you look at the GEM number on your fusebox and let me know the last two letters. Please put your response on this thread so that other users can benefit from the information. Please also state model year and whether you have cruise control or not. I attach a photo of my GEM number. My response is: BD-2010-no The fusebox is in the passenger footwell below the glovebox. Remove the clip holding the fabric cover, you will now see the underside of the fusebox. Slide the catch to the right and the fuse box hinges downwards.

  13. Had a look in fusebox. GEM number AG9T-14A073-BD - so it isn't a DX number. Not good. Can't find connector 103 - nothing to left of fuses. All connectors are larger than one shown on page 1 and don't swivel like one on page 1. See photo.
  14. Jarek - thanks for the reply but can you dumb it down for me please?
  15. Hi John. Its an auto so no clutch. I've done a diagnostic test but no CC LED lights up. There are Ghia models.
