  1. Battery Drain

You seen to know more about these things then me. If my alternator is shot how come i can use the car for 2-3 days without the battery dying? If it wasn't getting a charge surely it would die alot sooner?? I put a multimeter on the battery just and it read 12.50 engine off and 12.30 engine on.the last time i charged the battery was Monday night and have used the car daily since then. Surely the battery should have less charge in it than that if alternators not doing its job?
  2. Battery Drain

I've had it looked at. Apparently its the alternator. They put a multimeter on the lead coming out of it and apparently its not giving anything out. So looks like fun times ahead replacing alternate. Thanks for help everyone.
  3. Battery Drain

I haven't had the car long. I had to replace starter within about a month of buying it and during that time no i never had this problem.
  4. Battery Drain

I replaced the starter on it a week or so ago. could that have anything to do with it/could i have done something to cause the problem or do you think its pretty much deffo gonna be alternator
  5. Battery Drain

Its a fairly new battery (was on car when bought it) but i wouldn't think it was one of the special silver ones.and the only time I've had the battery light on was tonight on the way home.
  6. Battery Drain

Since charging battery and putting it back on yesterday i have used the car bit but today I had to go worcester in it (about 30 mins from mine) It started ok to go there, when i started it to come home, you could hear the battery was struggling a bit and then on way home the battery light came up on dash, about 5 mins later the abs light came on also then just before i got home those lights went off but the dials stopped working speedo, revs, petrol guage and temp.the when i parked up outside mine and turned the headlights off the dials started to work again .almost like it hadn't got enough power to power headlights and dash display at once. Oh and i tried to start it after i turned it off and battery is dead again
  7. Battery Drain

Right. Its a mondeo diesel. I've had it a couple of months. Since having it,I've put a new reverse light switch on it and a new starter motor. I went to redditch in it the other day, parked up at tesco in redditch, was in there for about 15 mins, came back out,put ignition on,all dials on dash went all way round like they do when you connect the battery, tried to start the car which it did but very weakily. Drove it round to my moms about 10 mins away. Parked it up,tried to start it and battery was dead. Managed to bump start it,drove it back to mine in bewdley from redditch. As soon as i parked up i turned it off and tried to restart but battery was still dead. I've taken battery off and charged it last night and it fired straight up.
  8. Starter,dmf Or What??

I haven't been able to get my hands on a multimeter yet but I've got someone coming to have a look tues morn. . An update for you. I had to go worcester in it today. It started ok round go there, when i started it to come home, you could hear the battery was struggling a bit and then on way home the battery light came up on dash, about 5 mins later the abs light came on also then just before i got home those lights went off but the dials stopped working speedo, revs, petrol guage and temp.the when i parked up outside mine and turned the headlights off the dials started to work again .almost like it hadn't got enough power to power headlights and dash display at once. Oh and i tried to start it after i turned it off and battery is dead again
  9. Starter,dmf Or What??

I can.get my hands on a mulimeter if you could tell me how to test the.battery and alternator . Thanks
  10. Starter,dmf Or What??

Put the battery off my dads car on it and it fired up straight away. So now gotta work out what drained it. On the day of the problems i had drove the car about 25 miles, parked up at the supermarket,in there for about 15 mins, went back to the car and dials went round and it struggled to start. Drove it round to my moms about 5 mins away and parked it up,tried to start it again and it was dead. Managed to bump start it,drove it home about 25 miles away, tried it again outside my house as soon as id parked up and turned ignition off and nothing, completely dead. Didn't even attempt to start. any ideas anyone? Thanks
  11. Starter,dmf Or What??

Im gonna try a different battery in a bit. If the other battery works I've just gotta work out where the drains coming from. There was no lights left on or any of the normal stuff. I'll post the battery outcome in a bit. Thanks
  12. Starter,dmf Or What??

It was supposed to have had a new battery a couple of months before i bought it so i dismissed the flat battery to be honest but I'll try the one off my dads car later and let you know. Thankyou
  13. I have a 2003 2 ltr tdci mondeo. I haven't had it long and the.other week i had to put a new starter on it. When i took the starter to a guy to see if he could refurb it (which he couldnt,so i bought a new one from local car parts shop) he said there was metal filings in it which could be a sign of the dreaded dmf failure. Well the new starters been on for no.more.than.a couple of weeks which in that time hasn't even been started every day and it seems its failed again. I went to start it yesterday and the dials went around on the dash like they do when you reconnect the.battery and then struggled to start almost like a flat battery. This happened for the next couple of times of starting but now it doesn't even try to start you just get the click noise which is associated with a non working starter. Could the dmf problem cause the starter to stop working after this very short space of time or could it be something else? Its the dials going around and the struggling to start that confuses me. oh and i have managed to bump start it
