  2. A spare wheel instead of the puncture repair kit which is useless if you seriously damage a tyre.
  3. I started driving in a 1956 Ford Popular with 30 bhp like this It afforded me various interesting experiences - not all of them in the driving seat. The idea of beginning with a 180 bhp Fiesta is astonishing - to put it mildly - and I hope roocat will be able to come back in a year or so to let us know how it's gone.
  4. I'm going to be very boring and suggest that roocat should find out how much insurance will cost for a newly qualified driver. Also a very firm ride, while maybe OK in town, will be horrible on poorly maintained country roads.

  7. My 2009 Fiesta Titanium has suffered a cracked windscreen The call centre person asked whether it has an acoustic screen. I can see no mention on the screen itself (she said there might be the word acoustic or an ear symbol) neither is there any mention in the full Etis Vehicle Summary so I replied in the negative - but I thought I should enquire here just in case.
  8. Here's something else to think about. There are many makes of aftermarket alloy wheels each offering a variety of models. There seems to be a significant “churn” of patterns. I found when changing wheels ( that even some recently announced designs had already been superseded. Now just suppose that in a year or two you have the misfortune to damage a wheel beyond repair. If it's a standard Fiesta wheel there's no problem. Thousands of wheels are out there in breakers' yards, eBay and of course available from Ford dealers. If it's an aftermarket wheel I reckon there's a risk that your supplier will find that your particular pattern has been discontinued and you'll be faced with buying a whole new set. :(
  9. Only 73 years old? Why I'm 75 and a quarter and I'm beginning to cogitate over what should replace my three and a half year old Fiesta. A facelift Fiesta or wait for the "all new" Fiesta which will surely follow? Or perhaps an Audi A1 just to impress the neighbours? I'm not an enthusiast for buying extended warranties. I've been a car owner since 1959 (mostly Fords) and very little has ever gone expensively wrong. If something does now I'll simply bite the bullet and pay up, reckoning that averaged over the years I've been lucky.

  11. Once upon a time there was a Fiesta Station Wagon and I'm guessing that's what the SW stands for. To apply the term to the current hatchback suggests to me that whoever is writing those ads doesn't know what they're about. Unless someone here knows different of course......

Looking HOT was not exactly at the forefront of this old pensioner's mind but I suppose it's never too late.... :D The 15'' Autec Zenit Silver alloys came from Autopoint Hastings (01424 718700) where Daniel was really helpful. Not too convenient for Devon though. I think I'd stick with 50 profile after all. On 15'' wheels it's a standard Fiesta combination and doesn't alter anything speedometer-wise. Also I couldn't have had the Kleber Quadraxer all-seasons tyres in 55 profile because they don't (or didn't) make them. One word of caution and I've thought of it a bit late in the day: I've the impression that makers of after-market wheels constantly bring out new designs while discontinuing the old. Just suppose, in a year or so, you damage a wheel beyond repair. If it's a standard Ford wheel there's no problem. Millions about, easy to get hold of one from a scrapyard or eBay. But if it's an after-market design - “I'm sorry Sir but that model was deleted last year. Can we interest you in a set of four like these?''.....

  14. A few thoughts from a non-expert :- I thought long and hard about keeping the original 16'' wheels but changing to higher profile tyres. Finding that I had two buckled tipped me towards buying a set of 15'' wheels and 50 profile tyres. If I were doing it again I might be tempted by 15'' wheels and 55 profile tyres especially since discovering that the insurance company doesn't seem interested. You didn't mean that you were thinking of replacing just two tyres with a higher profile pair? Surely it has to be all four or nothing? I've been reading posts on this forum for nearly 3 years and I can't recall anyone reporting having had the speedometer ''corrected''. I'm not even sure that it can be done? I suspect it's down to the driver to remember that with 55 profile tyres on the original wheels in place of 45 the usual ''safety margin'' isn't there any more. No more cruising at an indicated 35 mph in a 30 zone, safe in the knowledge that you're really only doing (roughly) 30! Somewhere there's a website giving detailed info. about the effect of different wheel sizes and tyre profiles upon speedometer readings.
  15. Just to say that I told my insurance company about the change of wheels and tyres. They didn't seem interested, said the change had been noted and they didn't propose any additional premium.
