  1. I found traction control to be a terrible nuisance when trying to move slowly uphill in a traffic queue on an icy slope. The tiniest bit of slippage and power was cut off. The subject was discussed on this forum years ago. So far as I can remember I think some Fiestas have a switch, some can have a switch added, some people advised pulling out a fuse ....there didn't seem to be a single solution to fit every Fiesta.
  2. Any opinions welcome on which engine is the "sweeter" - by which I mean that elusive combination of quietness, smoothness and flexibility. Or perhaps there's no difference? Never mind the top speed, the ultimate in acceleration or even the expense!

The Titanium X was there a few days ago on the Ford configurator and it let me "build" a Fiesta with a spare wheel even though the printed brochure says you can't have one presumably because the wheel well will be filled with Bang and Olufson electronics. Actually I value a spare wheel more highly than an upmarket audio system which I would seldom use because I try to concentrate 100% on driving. So it's back to the configurator, looking at the plain Titanium.
  4. The Titanium X has vanished from the Ford configurator! Just when I was beginning to think it was the one for me...
  5. This was the mk8. Seems a trifle odd to have a promotion on a car that hasn't even reached the showrooms yet but there's no accounting for the ways of manufacturers. At the moment I'm just daydreaming and playing with the configurator. I'll certainly use Carwow and/or Drivethedeal should I decide to proceed. The problem is that my present Fiesta, even at 8 years old, still looks and goes wonderfully well. Built in Valencia (they aren't made there nowadays) nothing has ever gone wrong with it.
  6. Only yesterday (June 30) the Ford configurator showed a Ford Promotional Price on my so far imaginary Titanium X of £17,885 with a retail price of £19,085. One day later the promotional price has disappeared leaving only the latter. I suppose these prices are fairly meaningless now we have Carwow and the like but it was still a bit of a shock.

  8. A spare wheel instead of the puncture repair kit which is useless if you seriously damage a tyre.
  9. I started driving in a 1956 Ford Popular with 30 bhp like this It afforded me various interesting experiences - not all of them in the driving seat. The idea of beginning with a 180 bhp Fiesta is astonishing - to put it mildly - and I hope roocat will be able to come back in a year or so to let us know how it's gone.
  10. I'm going to be very boring and suggest that roocat should find out how much insurance will cost for a newly qualified driver. Also a very firm ride, while maybe OK in town, will be horrible on poorly maintained country roads.

  13. My 2009 Fiesta Titanium has suffered a cracked windscreen The call centre person asked whether it has an acoustic screen. I can see no mention on the screen itself (she said there might be the word acoustic or an ear symbol) neither is there any mention in the full Etis Vehicle Summary so I replied in the negative - but I thought I should enquire here just in case.
  14. Here's something else to think about. There are many makes of aftermarket alloy wheels each offering a variety of models. There seems to be a significant “churn” of patterns. I found when changing wheels ( that even some recently announced designs had already been superseded. Now just suppose that in a year or two you have the misfortune to damage a wheel beyond repair. If it's a standard Fiesta wheel there's no problem. Thousands of wheels are out there in breakers' yards, eBay and of course available from Ford dealers. If it's an aftermarket wheel I reckon there's a risk that your supplier will find that your particular pattern has been discontinued and you'll be faced with buying a whole new set. :(
  15. Only 73 years old? Why I'm 75 and a quarter and I'm beginning to cogitate over what should replace my three and a half year old Fiesta. A facelift Fiesta or wait for the "all new" Fiesta which will surely follow? Or perhaps an Audi A1 just to impress the neighbours? I'm not an enthusiast for buying extended warranties. I've been a car owner since 1959 (mostly Fords) and very little has ever gone expensively wrong. If something does now I'll simply bite the bullet and pay up, reckoning that averaged over the years I've been lucky.
