You have to remove the cover around the wheel arch which is held in with a series of round clips, at the very top of the shock there are two bolts at either side, remove these and that is the top of the shock free, release the bolt at the bottom remembering the nut does not move and stays(just the long bolt). In my fusion both shocks were gone and everything above that had perished(bush and sleeves), I recommend a replacement from Ford as you get everything complete including new bolts and it is all built into a new mounting cup and bushes. I found motor factors could only supply a shock on its own which is useless as you will see there is loads more to it in mounting at the top and turned out to be cheaper too not to mention it takes about 10 mins to refit when complete. hope this helps
