  1. Thanks Jason, Would a sensor fault be picked up at the diagnostic check and not pressure control fault? If it is a bad connection, and I disturb and make good, would the sytem need resetting or would the ESP light just return to normal? Do you think a good auto electrician would be able to track the fault? Thanks again.
  2. Could anyone please advise on the above fault code? I've been told "Brake pressure control fault" approx £1100 for repairs, ouch !! What parts are most likely to be replaced? Would this be just the ABS module?? Many thanks
  3. Hi Folks, Check your licence, and save £1000 read on:- Thousands of motorists are at risk of being fined £1000 because they are unwittingly driving without a valid licence. This applies to the new “pink” UK photocard style licence which expires after 10 years, the first batch issued July 1998. Motoring organisations blamed the Government for the fiasco and said most motorists believed their licences were for life. To rub salt into the wounds, drivers will have to pay £17.50 to renew their card, which critics state will earn the Treasury an estimated £437 million over 25 years. Official figures reveal that of the 16,136 expired recently only 11,566 have been renewed, leaving nearly 5000 at risk of the £1000 fine. Another 300,000 are due to expire over the remainder of this year, experts’ fear the number of invalid licences will escalate. To check your licence, find the column headed 4a right in the centre, on the photo side, 4a “is the valid from” date. 4b “is the valid to” date. Under box 14 on the rear of the card has the key to the letters in very tiny print. The DVLA says that any driver could be charged with “failing to surrender their licence” an offence carrying a £1000 fine. However they confirmed that no one had so far been charged. So have a look and save yourselves a potential problem.
  4. Thanks Gaz6076 for your reply, Engine 1.6 petrol Duratec. Ford main dealer charged me £86.25 for the diagnostic, the car was back outside in less than half hour !! Quote from technicians sheet:- "Investigated into ESP light on placed on IDS & followed guided diag found fault code 1288 brake pressure control, advised new ABS module & valve block". A few weeks before the light coming on the yaw sensor (near to steering column, I think) was heard clicking far too sensitively, I first thought that this could be the fault if the yaw sensor was faulty? The car was OK when parked up at night but the light came on immediately on start the next day. ESP switch has no effect. Fault appeared about 1000 miles after service, also stated dirty brake fluid at service if this means anything? however now replaced. Cheers for your help, Thanks.
  5. Hi, The same happened to my Focus after about three years. The dealer quoted £150 labour as they claimed that the peddle needed to be split from the master cylinder !! My solution was to use an elastic band or several hooked onto the metal bar just under the plastic fascia around the peddle and back onto the bar. If you lay on your back in the footwell you can see the silver bar just under the edge of the dash and stops about where your left knee would be. Hook the bands onto this, then around the peddle and then back onto the bar. Just watch for the bands rubbing on the flat plate approx half way up the peddle for wearing through the bands. Works OK. Hope this helps.

  7. Hi Folks, Can any experts out there please comment on my "Ford Direct" Focus estate 4 years old 36,000 miles having the esp light on all the time. This came on over night just after fourth service, can this fault be created by a dealer as I refused some work that they recommended. eg front pads 90% worn even though all four pads had a minimum of 3mm of lining! Error code 1288 and quote for repair approx £1150 for new ABS unit. Is the whole unit faulty or could it be just a simple fault within? The dealer who did the diagnostic asked if the car had been flashed? I think the unit is behind the battery box, are there cheaper units out there and can it be a DIY job? Really appreciate your time and comments on this issue, hope the ABS still works !! Many thanks
