  1. Focus MK2 Drivebelt?

Hey guys. Leaving my car in to get the timing belt and water pump done next week and I'm wanting to get the main drive belt done as well. My car has aircon, so i think it has two different belts? The air con belt looks almost new but the main belt (Alternator, water pump, etc) is looking a bit worse for wear. What I'm wondering is, is it possible to just change the one belt? Or will I need to change both? Also, I've been looking at belts on eurocarparts and was wondering if this one would fit? http://www.eurocarparts.com/ecp/c/Ford_Focus_1.6_2005/p/car-parts/belts-chains-and-tensioners/engine-parts/car-drive-belt/?202777285&1&0d3d200c076dbb0a8307066a2f3f98037cabac16&000108 Thanks.
  2. Ok so I'm having a fair bit of trouble with my engine. It's pretty high mileage (151800) its misfiring and the turbo is also on the way out due to carbonated oil and lack of oil changes by previous owners. It's never been the best running engine but it's got really bad in the last couple days. Because it's such a high mileage engine I'm reluctant to pump money into parts to keep the engine going when it would be cheaper to just replace it. The engine code is DVA6TED4. These engines are notoriously weak and prone to problems, would other 1.6 tdci engines fit or would they be too much hassle with different electronics? Are there newer versions of the engine that don't have the problem with the dfp causing back pressure? Any help is appreciated thanks in advance :)
  3. Hello all, I have researched for hours, days, and cannot find SPECIFICALLY as to whether a 2005 Ford Focus 1.6ltr Ti-VCT engine is better on "super unleaded" 97-99 RON vs 95 Ron. All I want answered is a simple Yes or No. Seen too many threads turned into a war between people who claim they work or its a con, but none talking about this engine specifically. So THANKS for those IN THE KNOW about Fords 1.6 Ti-VCT engines and their experiences. cheers.
  4. Focus tdci boost problem

Hi, having a bit of an issue, my car is grand when it's cold it has power but just as the engine starts to get warm theres absolitely no power in all gears, there's no engine light on, its not throwing a code and it's not in limp mode. From reading other forums I've been lead to believe that it might be the boost control solenoid. Does anyone know anything about this problem and could someone help me locate the solenoid, thanks a lot!
  5. Came home from work just about to get changed to go out to eddie rockets rob your pockets with the other half but upon further investigation of the letterbox i had noticed that the stainless steel blank + gasket for blanking the egr had come in the post...so me being me (Any excuse to work on the car) I pulled out the tool box and fitted it. I'm no mechanic (just an electrician by trade) so I didn't really know what I was doing, i just about know a few odd things about cars so I kinda winged this instal because I couldn't find a tutorial to do this on my car.( probably is a few but wasn't arsed looking any longer) Now it makes it easier if you take off the scuttle panel but I think you have to take your bleeden wiper arms off and all and I hadn't got time for that as the missus was waiting. First thing I did was locate the egr valve, it's located behind the fuel filter. I took the 3x 8mm bolts off the black bracket that holds the filter in place. Then i removed the filter assembly and shoved it to the back of the engine bay ( fully intact) Second thing I did was take the bracket that the filter sits in to that bolts on to the side of the engine off so I could have the room to slide the blank and gasket in to place. There is another 3x 8mm bolts holding in place And last but not least I undone the two bolts on the valve just enough ( about 5mm) to get the gasket and the blank in to place. These are also 8mm Then put back together. Gonna try add all the pictures I have to this post. You will know what I'm talking about when you see the pictures. This is not a massively detailed tutorial as I ain't got time for that but it's enough so that you'll have half of an idea of what to do. The picture with the red circle is where you slide your blank plate in. Total cost =10.50 time= 30 mins.( not including scrubbing the hands haha)
  6. Hello All, I am having a large issue with my Ford Focus 2013 1.6 TDCI. A Few months ago I was driving when i suddenly got the dreaded engine management light and a constant message of ENGINE MALFUNCTION SERVICE NOW. It continued to drive fine but then dropped into limp mode. I took it took my independant garage who done a regen and it fixed the issue. Month later the issue came up again. This time i took it to an official ford company who diagnosed 3 Faults. one with the grill system which i have no idea what they mean, they mentioned taking it apart which could be costly to find the broken part. they then mentioned that might not even fix it and that there is a glowplug in the DPF which may be causing the problem then of course the usual DPF clogged up with SOOT mainly because of the other issues. obviously to get all this fixed and the labour is going to cost me alot. Is there anyone who can help with my understanding of the issue and if it is possible for an independant garage to fix. Thanks Jamie
  7. Right. Seriously not looking to start a discussion here about what tuning method is best - I know we all have different ideas based upon different experiences and different research. Originally I poopooed (heehee ) the idea of these tuning boxes, having read many horror stories about problems with engines after installing. However, this was based upon (my) zero knowledge of different tuning methods or reading myself on how these boxes work. It seems that most of the naysayers are folk who are really talking about the 'early-days' tuning boxes, ie, a resistor in a comparatively giant plastic box that eats turbos, however looking for actual reviews on Arachnids specifically there seems to be nothing but good from all walks of life, on all vehicles and for months and months after installing (presumably the owners stop banging on about it after a while but it still continues to work flawlessly!) Stephen @madmole, I'm really looking at you here - as the biggest advocate for these things (I saw what must be your review btw =)) I'm looking for as much information as you can give if that's ok? I don't really want a sales pitch as I've been on their website already, but as much detailed information about installation, setup, usage and removal (if you have) from your own personal experience as you can would be massively appreciated and just maybe, we might be able to encourage a few more folk that this could be the way to go? I've got the thing sat in a cart with the FOC30 discount code already applied (thanks for that). There was apparently a 'sp40' code for 40% off, but that's now expired. My finger is hovering over the 'pay now' button and I think I need that final push. The other thing I MUST consider is the insurance impact. My insurance already almost doubled when coming to this car from my 1.6 petrol Mk1 as I was halfway through the year and want to get the NCB (I went on my own insurance quite late on and only have 4 years). If this is going to massively hike it then it may put the kibosh on anyway cos there ain't no way in hell I'm not telling them about it. Obviously I know that noone can really tell me but my insurance company but others' experience would be welcome. Anyone else who has one, please share - good and bad. Anyone else who HAD one and went for something else with better results, please share - when and why. Anyone else who is going to tell me that it will kill my engine and not to buy one: unless you were on the design or build team for them or unless this happened to YOU and not your cousin's sister's dog's breakfast's brother; thank you but no thank you.
  8. Hi all, My 2006 Ford Focus 1.6 TDCi came up with an engine systems failure message today just coming off of a dual carriageway (70mph) accompanied by a red light next to the trip computer. I think it went into limp mode (severly reduced power, unwiling to rev much), so not good when you live at the top of a hill! Two other times when starting the car it has briefly displayed an error message (once it said "steering assist failure", and yesterday it came up with the same engine systems failure message"). Both times I have restarted the car and it disappeared. The car is a 2006 on an 06 plate, and has currently done 73500 miles. I bought it last may at 65000 miles, and it had a service just before I bought it. As it had just turned 6 years old/65000 miles, I'm presuming the DPF would have been changed then? Does anyone have any idea what's wrong? Thanks in advance, Minnis
  9. Hello, would anyone per chance happen to have a wiring/pin out dagram for a bosch pcm/ecu 7m51-12a650-ua Many thanks in advance for any assistance ( :
  10. I am looking to make my 2010 ford focus mk2 1.6 diesel sound better, currently have a remap which is the only mechanical thing done, rest is visual, any idea's? I was thinking pop corn limiter for a little extra thing? Want some help brainstorming some idea's, thank you :)
  11. Fiesta mk6 turbo???

I was looking around and was wondering if I can put a turbo on my 1.6 fiesta zetec s? im looking for a moderately priced 'bolt on' kit. Not really looking to do fabrication work. i was jus wondering if the engine is able to cope with a turbo? And if not what other options are there for increasing power?
  12. Hi there, I'm new to this sort of thing but had no option to come here for some advice! My car is a 2008 Focus Mk2.5 1.6 Zetec (petrol) (67,000 miles) and for the past few months it's had terrible starting issues that aren't exactly consistent. I turn on the ignition and go to start and it will turn over fine with a few coughs (trying to fire) and averagely starting after about 5/6 starts. (As I said it's not consistent as this morning it started 2nd try). Sometimes I will have a message pop up whilst I'm trying to start which is either; 'ESP off', 'Aux Heater 0%'. Also, when eventually started, (I'm not sure of this is connected to the situation) it splutters slightly for maybe like 1/4 mile down the road, with slight loss of power. In the afternoon it starts up first time (usually) so it's normally first thing in the morning. Hopefully one of you guys can point me in the right direction, thanks in advance! (Edit) The truth is I probably created an account many years ago and completely forgot! 😂
  13. Hi people, I'm keeping my MK2 diesel Focus and potentially looking to buy a 2nd car (for the wife). I noticed in the MK7, the 1.6 petrol appears to offer significantly more performance than the 1.4 whilst seemingly being able to still offer decent MPG, so it's the engine I'm looking at. Is there anything specific I need to look out for or checking in relation to MK7 in general (but especially the engine)?
  14. Cold air intake??

So I just bought a 2006 mk6 fiesta zetec s, and it feels like it may be running a little rougher than usual, I've many opinions and 99% of them had said get a cold air intake. Now I'm bit of an amateur when it comes to upgrades and modifications, but does anyone know of any realiable kits that won't break the bank? Thanks *open to alternate suggestions*
  15. Hi all, on the 22nd October, 4 months after passing my driving test I purchased my first car. A 2005 mk2 Ford Focus Zetec Climate 1.6 petrol for 1175 GBP. I live in the north east of Scotland and got it from Edinburgh so 4 months of no driving having to do 170 miles was enough to get me used to the car. Being my first car my knowledge was limited and as time has passed the car had a few problems. Overall by now I have spent around 3000 GBP on the car not including the price of the car to begin with and although it has had problems the car I feel has been brought back to life. As I have owned this car I have learned more and more about cars in general. Always had a high interest in cars but obviously it grows when you get your first car. Anyway enough rambling. This is the car as I bought it > Then to current day > Things that have been done/repaired: (DIY mods) Exterior -tinted tail lights, head lights, indicators, fog lights, reversing lights/rear fogs -xenon white headlights, sidelights, full beam lights, registration lights, reversing light -sunstrip -wind deflectors -refurbed and painted alloys -carbon fiber wrapped plastic trim above fog lights -painted front grill -debadged the 'focus' and 'zetec' from the back -brake drums painted black -rear ford badge 'tinted' black -mudflaps rear and front Interior -new gear gaitor -carbon fiber wrapped central climate control panel, lower geat gaitor panel, steering wheel inserts -blue pvc trim round central climate control panel and air vents -leds in footwell -blue st style mats -aftermarket double din stereo (bluetooth aux etc.) -xenon white interior light, boot light -seatbelt harness covers -circular climate control knobs (Non-DIY mods) Exterior -custom made catback exhaust system Interior - N/A (DIY Repairs) Front brake discs and pads Full service (Garage Repairs) 2x Front wheel bearings 1x rear coil spring 2x rear shock absorbers New timing belt New spark plugs and leads 2x rear shock top mountings front suspension arm bush New clutch New handbrake New water pump New stock exhaust (before the custom catback) Plans for the future: Tint the back windows Paint the lower bumper black (the grey plastic) Paint the spoiler black (instead of grey plastic) Paint the brake calipers (blue or black undecided) Possibly get side skirts/bumpers (unlikely) Fix up the rust spots on the wings and sills Change colour of lights in instrument cluster and central panel Will get better photos/exhaust videos once the weather improves.
  16. Hi all, I have a 2009 focus MK2.5 1.6TDCI zetec with about 116k miles on the clock. I've just come back from work and for the first time that I've seen the 'engine malfunction' error come up on the dash. The car drove perfectly on the way home. no weird noises or limp home. When mentioning this to my wife she apparently saw the error thursday last week when she was moving my car but didnt tell me as she thought I was already aware . however I've used the car for 10+ trips since then and I didnt see anything. However since the first time I saw the error it seems to be consistent now. I've used forscan and found the following codes: PCM: Code: P0704-28 - Clutch switch input circuit malfunction Code: P2585-61 - Fuel Additive Control Module Warning Lamp Request FACM: Code: P2409-60 - Fuel Cap Sensor/Switch Circuit Range or Performance Code: P1922-60 - Fuel Additive Level Circuit Code: B1317-20 - Battery Voltage High The last time I checked codes on the car was probably 5-6 months ago. The only code then was the first one in the FACM P2409-60. I've tried resetting this and it keeps coming back. I have a feeling the magnet is missing from the fuel filler flap. This code has been there since I bought the car, 1 year ago. So I was aware of this one. It never caused any harm so I never bothered with it. Some of these codes could be old but they dont really point me into the direction that is causing the error. If the fuel additive tank needs topping up I was expecting P1927 or P1932 to be present. Any insight would really help. If it makes any difference, I'm fairly sure the DPF has been gutted on my car by the previous owner. I've also attached the DTC log for full analysis. My next course of action was going to be jacking the car up and visually looking at the additive tank to assess if it is empty or near empty. I was also going to reset all DTCs and monitor which ones reappear, i.e. presistant issues. However Im far far from an expert here which is why I came to you guys DTCs.txt
  17. Hello all, I currently dive a 2005 Ford Focus mk 2 and have had huge problems since I bought it I bought the car with a 1.4 duratec engine and about 5 days later started showing signs of head gasket leaks, after that I nct (Irish mot) and passed it. I bought another car but it has a 1.6 vvt engine . After swapping the engines I can't get the camshaft sensor to connect and it now causing the engine light to show up and making gear one shake the car as if it wants to stall any ideas on how to stop this?
  18. Hey! Proud owner of a fancy 2005 Focus 1.6 tdci, I called it The Silver Bullet lol! I found this forum when searching on info mapping my focus. I am seriously considering impulse buying a ST 2.0 Diesel! Thanks for having me.
  19. Mk2.5 focus grinding noise

Hi need some advice, I've had my 59 plate focus zetec S 1.6 tdci for about six weeks and every time setting off after starting the engine it makes a grinding noise from the engine bay, it only lasts about a second or two and happens between 10 - 15 mph, it never happens except the first time after starting the engine
  20. Hi, I have a blown 1.4 petrol engine and was wondering if the 1.6 petrol engine would be a direct replacement? or would I need the ecu, wiring harness, clocks etc? All help would be appreciated thank you
  21. So I have a 2006 Ford Fiesta Zetec S, petrol, and I was wondering where I would be able to get the "best?" Dump valve from? I was it for nothing else other than the sound, would mix well with a nice exhaust, any replies appreciated thanks.
  22. Hi all, Just had the brake pads and brake disks replaced on my ford focus 1.6 2009 mk2. Driving home from the service centre I've noticed that when the steering wheel is straight the car goes slightly to the right! So i have to have the steering wheel going slightly to the right to make sure the car is straight. now i will definitely take it back to the garage Monday however any ideas what this may be? Do you think its linked to the fact ive just had my brakes done, the steering was fine before having that done. any help is appreciated
  23. Focus 1.6 Timing belt change

Hey Guys, My Focus is due a cambelt change soon (im told) its a 2009 model but has only done 58k miles. However the garage are "strongly" advising me to get it done asap. Apparently it should be done every 100k or 8 years? What is a going rate for this? (I was thinking £300?) should I also get the aux belt done? I know with the engine I have the cambelt doesnt drive the water pump as its driven by then aux belt so I wont get the waterpump done.
  24. Wheel Alignment question Focus

Hi All, Ive just had my wheels aligned and I saw from the report that the back left and the front right needed to be adjusted. What would have caused a wheel misalignment? I have 3 budget tyres and one Dunlop, do you think it would have been this? Or could it be pot holes (we have alot around here!) Thanks
  25. Failed MOT HELP!!

Hey All, Just had my car in for a service, and its failed MOT with the things below. In your experience how much would you expect to pay for these repairs? The cost for new brake pads and disks is £216 The cost for the parking brake "fix" is £172 (apparently includes the purchase of multiple handbrake cables). Also is the shock absorber advisory anything to be worried about? (if so is it expensive to fix?) Help!! I have no idea if I'm being ripped off or not! Any advice would be highly appreciated :) Reason(s) for failure offside rear rear brake recording little or no effort (3.7.B.5a) front brake disc in such a condition that it is seriously weakened (3.5.1i) Parking brake: efficiency below requirements (3.7.B.7) Advisory notice item(s) offside rear Shock absorber has a light misting of oil (2.7.3)
