Hi everyone I bought this 2.0 litre tdci 57 plate mondeo about 4 days ago it's the 140bhp zetec, lovely car I bought it because my 2.0 litre petrol ghia blew up haha .. anyway it seems a little strange when I start up the new mondeo it makes a whistling/high-pitched humming sound possibly the starter motor but I'm unsure if this is normal?? I'm going to attempt to attach a video of it starting up to see if you know what I'm going on about.. thanks in advance ok I can't upload the video any advice on where to upload video for people to listen??
  2. Have had my focus 6 months now. From the start i noticed it using around 1ltr of water each 20 - 30 mile trip. Then i noticed expansion bottle was going black. Car back to indy dealer. They figured oil cooler was issue. Replaced. Coolant system chemically cleaned and flushed. Next day still losing water. Back to dealer. Turns out head gasket had blown before and previous owner fixed it using a pour in sealant. The chemical flush appeared to have removed the sealent, so now head needing done. New gasket, still losing water. Have since had replaced Timing belt, Water Pump, Thermostat and various hoses. Still losing water, and forgot to mention the temp guage swaying around. Also when pushing it a little, around 80mph on my private road the temp guage hits max for 10 or so seconds then returns to midway. Car has just been pressure tested and head checked for gasses. All showing normal. Any ideas folks ?
  3. Hi guys I've been having a bit of trouble for a while now with starting. It's really intermittent, although it has become progressively more frequent. It will happily crank over and sounds as if it's about to start then fails. This can repeat quite a few times (10+ in the worst cases) until it starts. If it's taken a few goes to get it running then you will get some white smoke from the exhaust - this is the unburnt fuel, so it is definitely injecting fuel even though it won't start... As I said this has been going on for a while, maybe 6 months now. Initially it was a case that the problem may happen a couple of times a month and it would always start on the second attempt. More recently it's happening much more frequently, and regularly requires quite a few attempts before it will start. I've had in on the diagnosis machine (I'm quite lucky and have free access to one). No error codes, nothing, nada. Even had the diagnosis machine on it during starting while it was having the issue and everything is as it should be (i.e fuel pressure is good, all sensors are a go). The diagnostics also confirmed that the engine is perfectly balanced when running, no misfires or anything like that. There is not a single issue while the car is running, it's purely a starting issue. Fuel economy is as good as ever, runs perfectly and the speedo rev counter are accurate. I've gone ahead and replaced both the camshaft and crankshaft sensors now but this hasn't helped at all and it's still happening. I'm confident it's nothing to do with the glow plugs (it started fine mostly during the winter) and the issue happens both during hot and cold. As in, the issue is so intermittent that it can occur after a two hour cruise on the motorway when you stop at a service station, or in the morning. It's seems unrelated to hot or cold ambient or engine temperatures and how long you've left it sitting does make a difference either. Wet or dry doesn't make a difference either. I'm all out of ideas and can't think what else could even begin to cause the issue. It appears to be electrical, but what else is involved in the starting process that could affect it? Any ideas / thoughts / experience of the same issue are all welcome! Just to be clear it's a 57 plate 2.0 TDCi Focus with around 70k on the clock. Thanks Rob
  4. Hi all, New to the owners club Was wondering if anyone has had the same issue or knows what the problem might be? Just bought a 2012 focus titanium x 2.0 tdci (163) which has only covered 5000 miles. When i press the throttle in to pull away the revs will shoot up to about 1500-2000 stay there long enough to pull away then once your moving will all of a sudden drop to about 900-1000 then will pick up no problem. Problem is it doesn't happen all of the time, but enough to make you think twice before pulling out of a junction or on to a roundabout. It has happened when the car is fully warmed up after driving 30 miles or so. Would like to get this sorted ASAP as the car is for my wife who is 8 months pregnant and keeps stalling it. Any help much appreciated!
  5. Hi, I hope someone can shed some light on this. I have a Focus 2.0TDCI CC, 2008 57 plate. The car had a flat battery a few days ago and has developed lots of electrical faults since, such as: Interior light not working, rear window demist not working but quick clear front demist is ok, one touch windows not working, as a convertible it has an electric boot fastener when you close it which isn't working either. All these things were ok before the flat battery. Since getting the car in June '14 its had a fault which is still the same. This fault is when the car is started the dash lights, reverse light, radio & electric roof don't work for approx 30 seconds while the engine management light and heater plug light stay on for the same 30 seconds. I don't know if this old fault is connected with the new fault. Please help, I have no idea what to do next with this...... Thank you
  6. Good morning all! I had an issue the week having bought a Mondeo 2.0 TDCi Ghia Estate on a 54 plate. The issue was that under zero stress (driving lightly) there seemed to be no issue however putting the foot down to go into 5th from 4th up flashed the coil light and EGM light. Loss of power, would drive but no turbo. I looked on the forums here and found that it could be something to do with the EGR valve as they get mucky. So I set to work on cleaning it up. Having unbolted the valve housing I was surprised to find a holeLESS blanking plate fitted. Not wanting to jump to conclusions cleaned the valve up and replaced it onto the motor. Took it for a testdrive yesterday and slowing down for a roundabout I get a little shudder, the coil light comes on BUT I 'm not losing the turbo. (i.e. the car runs fine but for the flashing coil light. Turn off the engine then turn it on again and everything is back to normal. I was hoping that someone local (Kirkcaldy, Fife) or even national would give me a lend of an OBDII reader for free (I'm really skint until the end of the month) so I can narrow down where I need to look next.     Now I'm getting some miles on the clock the economy is starting to get better. This is the first time I've seen over 700 miles tank range on the on-board computer.
  8. Hi i have a 2006 mk3 mondeo with the 2.0 TDCI engine. I have a problem with starting the engine if it is already warm. After i have stopped the engine, eg. when filling with fuel, and then try and start it again it can sometimes take 20+ seconds of turning over before it will run. It usually then runs really rough at very low RPM before smoothing out at the expected idle speed after a blip of throttle. This same problem occurs with or without running a glowplug warming cycle and the warmer the engine the worse it seams to be. When the engine is cold it starts up perfectly fine every time. I plan on having a look round the engine bay for split pipes ect, but thought i would ask out on here for any suggestions.
  9. My S-Max 2.0 TDCI has just started having intermittent starting issues. The engine turns over but doesn't start and doesn't happen every time. It also seems to start if I apply some throttle after it starts ticking over - I thought you weren't supposed to do this on diesels? The car was only serviced two weeks ago and the garage also read for any fault codes but there weren't any. Does anyone have any suggestions? Thanks
  10. Hi Everyone, I wonder if anyone has had this same problem and could shed any light on it!? I bought a 2005 Focus 2.0 tdci 6spd Titanium at the weekend and discovered a horrible rattling noise coming from the offside rear wheel area whenever I go over any uneven surface. Thing is, the noise stops when I brake so I put the handbrake on 2 clicks and can drive with no noise at all. Obviously this is not ideal as a fix, so was wondering if anyone had any idea at all of what it could be? I have looked around the area that its coming from and cannot see anything that is loose or has play. Any help would be much appreciated. Also... I am looking to start modding the new Focii once I've built some funds back up from the purchase. What are the best things to start with on a pre-F/L model? I am planning to get a bluefin or remap (not decided yet) and probably a DPF delete, although had a new filter at 80K but has now done 105K; should I still remove to save future hassle? What you guys reckon?
