  1. Good afternoon everyone, I hope you are well. I will start this off by saying I have no clue what so ever about cars, i have only been driving for 11 months and I don't really know anything technical. I'm thinking of booking the car in for a cam belt change, unless you guys think otherwise. Firstly, the car has done 88k miles and has always been previously serviced at Allen Ford religiously every year. However, when i bought it the dealer hadn't got any receipts for work done so i was unsure if a change had previously been made. The last few weeks the car has been making noises when accelerating under load. If I am rolling really slowly and pull off in 2nd (i know i shouldn't) it makes a squeaking noise for a second. If I'm driving and I change gear a little to early the car makes a chirping sound while its picking up the strain for about 2-3 seconds. Any other time the car is fine, not a sound out of place. I don't know if the cam belt should always make a noise if it is on the way out or whether each case is different. Does anyone know what this sound definitely is please?   2. Hello all, I'm new to the forum and this is my first post. I own a 2003 MK6 Fiesta Zetec which I fitted a Parrot MK1900i bluetooth system to the car. I use the bluetooth system for all my calls and for playing my audio making my Ford 4500 radio completely redundant. Anyway, i want to upgrade my stock speakers however i've been advised that in doing so i will have to upgrade my head unit. I'd rather not do this because it wouldn't get used and would overall be a waste of money. I was wondering whether theres a way i can upgrade the speakers and possibly install a subwoofer without changing the stock radio? Any help would be appreciated, thanks smokecal
  3. Engine Whine (Video of fault included)

    So my 2003(53) 1.4 Zetec has been making an intermittent whine since January 2016 and this week it has become louder and a few other issues have grabbed my attention. Firstly the whine is coming from the belt section in the engine bay (see video) and the coolant in the engine is bubbling and at boiling point. It is that hot that you cant even touch the coolant container. I managed to capture a short video of the sound and where I think it is coming from. The car has done 67,000 miles roughly and I've had it since October 2015 and only had to replace an o2 sensor. Every time I take it into the garage the sound isn't there so they have nothing to go off. I should also mention that the temperature gauge on the dashboard rises into the 'normal' section but doesn't say that it is operating an an unusually high temperature. There are also no engine codes present or pending on the dashboard. Please if possible can someone diognose the problem briefly so I have an idea what it might be that I need to inform my garage about? Thanks in advance. Video Link(YouTube):
  4. Hi! I'm new in the forum so please excuse if I did not follow the correspondent procedures. I'd like to see if I can get any help and fix myself this problem. I have a Ford Fiesta 2003 Zetec which I bought second hand. (I think the car was stationary for a long time) Since a bough it I realice that when moving the car from stop there is a lag, sometimes that lag makes the car to stall, specially when moving from stop position. After a friend drove the car for a bit told me that looks like the handbrake is slightly 'on' therefore the feeling of lagging when start moving. Also, you can feel the handbrake loose before completely pushing it back. (In other words, the first 35% when applying the handbrake feels complety loose) Is this a easy one? Anything similar happend to you? Any help? Much appreciated!!! D
  5. Blown Turbo

    At the end of a 200+ mile journey last night and 3 miles from home in our Mondeo Mk3 (2003) I suddenly lost power, then one up one hill too many a grating noise coming from the engine (like going over a cattle grid) then all hell as the engine went out of control with increasing revs and smoke coming from the bonnet as we all bailed out in fear that it was about to explode. The revving continued with the ignition turned off but almost at it's peak of revving suddenly stopped. Luck would have it that a local mechanic was passing at that precise moment - he got us home and the car now sits in his garage waiting for inspection. He was able to offer 'blown turbo seals' as an on-the-spot diagnosis and said that 9 times out of 10 that meant a new engine or the end of the car. I'm hoping then, while I await his full and proper diagnosis in the sober light of day, that someone might be able to give some hope to cling to. A fuller explanation of what might have just happened to my car... should we actually be just thankful that my wife, two boys, golden retriever and I are still alive... and if it is as common and unpredictable as the friendly mechanic was suggesting will I be able to drive a turbo powered car ever again?... Frightening, still shaken, everything that was in the car now stinks of burned oil and I have little idea what just happened. Any advice and positivity would be much appreciated at this time.
  6. Ok so I bought this car earlier in the year. Has been fantastic for my family especially getting to hospital appointments with my daughter (she has a rare condition) My car, a 53 plate fiesta finesse was due mot 22nd Dec so I took it early. Arnold Clark found it needed a middle section of exhaust and three brake pipes. Got these all replaced at small garage and car was taken back for retest and passed! Got car home and since driver has brought it back it's had nothing but problems. This morning it was starting but unless reved it would cut out while idle. As the day went on it has stalled at every junction, roundabout and when lowering speed. The steering lock (yes the steering completely locks!) has completely locked after stalling a number of times (I ended up on pavement at one point as I was turning into the road!) AC want nothing to do with it as he only looked at car for mot and didn't touch anything. Another garage replaced fuel pump and I'm now stalling at a couple junctions but steering wheel still locking. Have spent 400 so far and at my wits end!! Garage noted rev counter shoots up and down too. All before Xmas too! Terrified to drive it and can't put kids in it. The car has v clean engine, and only 67000 miles so shouldn't be doing all this surely?!!
  7. Heater Control Valve 03?!

    If anyone could help I would appreciate it a lot!! 2003 mk6 Ford Fiesta will not stop blowing cold air, can't get any heat out of it at all, have no idea what's going on! In my old Ford Fiesta it was the heater control valve but apparently that is not the problem in the mk6?! Can anyone help?!
  8. hi to all i have a 1.6 focus petrol automatic zetec se .......i was driving home when i heard a rapid knocking sound from the engine that gets faster when accelerating and when slowing/stopping car idles irratic then stalls .......put 4 litres of 5w30 in.... now when trying to start dash and roof light go dim/off starter clicks once....tried jumping from another cars battery but leads got hot quick and i saw a tiny plume of smoke from middle of engine so.... is it wise to try and jump start again ? any idea about irratic idle and stall ? or what knocking noise is ? car wont start helpppppp....
  9. Stereo On But No Sound

    hi guys i was hoping you could help i have put a kenwwood cd player in my ka it lights up and works but no sound coming from the speakers when i bought it i know it works because they showed me but now it dont i did drop it by mistake when i got home because the bag split hope you can help thanks p.s i dont no weather the car ever had audio because the ford stereo that was in it did not have code but istill have that one if anyone knows how to get the code thanks again in advance

  11. Hi, new to the club, just bought my first Ford today! A 2003 Fiesta 1.4. Quick question about servicing, it has stamps up to 50,000 miles at the end of 2011, and I've bought it on 69,000. I want to take it for a full service just to make sure everything is OK with it, has anyone got any experience with Fiesta's of this age going for services? Just so I can get a rough idea of costs and if there are any common problem areas. I've seen quotes for around £150 but don't want to get a nasty shock if there's something totally wrong with it, so I'm kind of worried to actually get one done. Any help would be appreciated.   12. My First Ford !!

    Hallo one & all, I picked up a 53 plate 4dr Focus 1.8 TDCi last Sunday, seems & looks like a crackin little car. She's not quite immaculate, but very clean & only 79k on the clock. Apparently has a 'cold start issue' which hasn't made itself known as yet (not been cold this week) and apart from both low beam lamps needing replaced (jeezus what a PITA that was) it's brilliant !! Wondering if a set of glow plugs might resolve that - any thoughts? With a lotta head scratching, swearing & generally getting angry I managed to replace both headlamps without removing the units (though YouTube suggested I should), but it was missing the retaining clip on drivers side lamp. I've just found that in the glove box so I don't need to buy one, but do need to fit the bugger which should be interesting :) Anyhoo, thought I'd pop in and say Halloo. Joined a few days ago, have mooched around the focus section a bit & want to upgrade speakers, replace headunit, eventually install a sub. As far as the car goes though, I'm a happy wee bunny!
  13. I have a 2003 Mondeo Estate with a 1.8L Duratec petrol engine which recently has started misfiring. The misfire appears to occur between 1500 and 3000 rpm and is more noticable during gentle/normal acceleration and less so under hard acceleration. The fault appears to have started after changing the spark plugs, but the plugs look to be working OK. Engine management light now on and looking to see if I can get the error codes read. Any experience of a similar problem and how it was fixed. Many Thanks Alan
  14. Hey Guys, Racking the brains of the experts. Driving a 2003 1.8 TDDi Focus and always had the common instrument cluster problem where the dials drop off intermintently, and warning lights come on for no reason, in wet weather but never an issue always comes back. The other day car failed to start but managed to bump it. Then after driving for 15-20 min (Battery light came on, then abs light, and handbrake) parked up and again it failed to start couldn't even bump it, by pushing or towing. Meanwhile the dashboard electrics were going a bit crazy warning lights flashing on and off. When turning to ignition, a relay under the bonnet was going skitz clicking away. Got the jump leads out and after 5-10 car started perfectly fine and drove as normal until 5min down the road where it died, headlights and dashboard lights went dim. Switched my hazards on and all of a sudden my interior light was going off with my hazard lights! So sadly towed it home. Now tried testing with a voltmeter and it seems that the alternator isn't charging the battery, but the indicator light on the battery isn't showing green, when I charged it full over night (less than a year old so still under warranty). So it would seem that my alternator has gone but to me that doesn't explain the rest of the elctrics going crazy. Anyone got any ideas? Thanks in advance
  15. Hey everyone hopefully just a quick query. I'm about to replace my head gasket, and was just wondering if the the ways to denote the thickness of the gasket i.e. some have teeth and some have holes. If they are the same. As in my head gasket has 4 teeth, would that be the same as a head gasket with 4 holes? Also was thinking of taking a photo of each stage if anyone was unsure how to do one, would anyone like this or should I just get on with it? Thanks in advance
  16. I have a 2003 1.8 Ford Focus tdci zetec with intermittent problem of loss of power, ignition light flashing. First problem July last year, all fuel injectors reconditioned, refitted, drove like a dream again for 8 months. Passed MOT last month but a week later same symptoms arise. Advised fuel pump fault, recovery could not read car diagnostic codes. Fuel drained, iron filings found. Now advised to scrap car as repairs would include new fuel pump, more reconditioned fuel injectors plus complete drain and flush of the fuel system. Other than the above fault the car is in very good condition, seems a crying shame to scrap. Worried about buying another 2nd hand Ford Focus as the fault could arise again. Can anyone advise if this car would be worth saving or should I seriously consider the scrap route???? All suggestions would be gratefully received.
  17. Hi all, New Ford Focus owner here and new forum member. A couple of weeks ago I bought a 2003 Ford Focus Ink. Sadly the engine management light illuminated after a couple of days of driving. Using the self-diagnostic check in the LCD display showed a DTC code of 9318 (low voltage) had been logged. The battery voltage without the engine running showed as being around 10 volts and 13.5 with the engine running. I replaced the battery with a new Halfords calcium one (as per their website suggestion for my registration number) and the engine management light was no more. Sadly 100 miles later and the engine management light has illuminated again. The self-diagnostic check shows a DTC code of 9318 and a battery voltage of 11.8 without the engine running and 13.5 with the engine running. Please could someone help me to further diagnose why the engine management light has illuminated again when the battery and alternator appear to be healthy (to my untrained eye at least)? The previous owner put st doors on it with electric window buttons but its still manual windows so im curious to have see if i would be able to fit motors etc to get the windows elecrtic? Thanks
  19. Fiesta Lx Wont Start?

    HI, THIS MORNING MY FIESTA WOULDN'T START! I TOOK IT TO MY MECHANIC AND HE COULDN'T SOLVE THE PROBLEM EITHER. AFTER A WHILE HE FIGURED ITS THE BATTERY. THE BATTERY HAS ENOUGH POWER TO MAKE THE ENGINE TURN AND NEARLY START BUT IT DOESN'T HAVE ENOUGH FOR THE ELECTRONICS THUS IT WONT START! TOOK THE BATTERY OUT - GIVE IT FULL CHARGE OF POWER IT'LL TURN ON - GIVE IT LESS IT WONT! BUT THE BATTERY LOOKS NEW SINCE I BROUGHT IT SHOULD I CHANGE THE BATTERY OR JUST CHARGE THIS ONE UP FULLY AND SEE HOW IT GOES? ALSO HOW MUCH ROUGHLY WOULD IT COST FOR A NEW BATTERY FOR THIS CAR AND WHAT IS THE RECOMMENDED ONE? THANKS
  20. Hi All! New to this so if this question has been asked already, I apologise now! I got my Focus on Monday and lo and behold, as soon as I got it out, I noticed the left door speaker is buzzing. Most people I speak to say its probably a loose wire which I'm confident about sorting but I can't/don't know how to get to the speaker. Do I have to remove the whole door panel or isit simpler than that? There's nothing I can find in terms of a video tutorial or instructions on how to do it and wondered if anyone on here could and may know how. Appreciate any advice! Thanks :D Tom
