Posting in General Chat thread.   11/11/2017

it has been noted that too many Members are posting messages in the General Chat area instead of the correct Forums. Any messages posted in the General Chat area that are not General Chat will be deleted without warning and offenders may recieve warning points if repeated instances are seen from that Member. There are plenty of different Club areas that encompass 99% of Ford related posts, please select and use the correct one. If anyone is not sure of which area to post something then feel free to P/M myself or other Senior Staff for guidance. The Moderating Staff are having to spend far too much time chasing this problem instead of maintaining the other areas of the forum.

  1. Hi all, Suffered the dreaded broken bonnet lock today. Managed to open the bonnet and remove the lock and now I'm just waiting for my local dealer to get me the little cross-shape section white plastic peice that engages the release mechanism in the actual lock. I had to remoive the lock/catch to open the bonnet and notice there's an aluminium-looking rounded top post sticking out the top of the catch - it seems to be above some electronics and I wondered if it was a microswitch for the security system. Problem is, it doesn't depress - doesn't move at all. My question is, should it move? If not, what's it for? Why does it have electronics?
  2. Hello all. Hope this is the correct section for the 1.6L 2004 SportSE? I got myself a 56k one last week. Seems to have a few things. First question I have for your expertise is do I have an alarm? I've been thrown to thinking it should have one as standard, mainly because one of the two keys I got with it has this remote: The buttons on this do nothing at all, batteries (x3) tried in both positions ( - / + ), no lights, no central lock activation. It DOES unlock/lock the car manually both doors, boot, and fuel cap. Only activates the LED in the clock for 5 seconds when I move to ignition position 1. The second key is just one of these with the red transponder chip in: I've yesterday gone to visit my local Ford dealership, and pestered them about it. They don't think the car has it fitted? I got a print out of the options on the car, as per attached. Does that translate to those that know the wordings, that I do indeed NOT have a remote alarm? I'll add the other oddity to another thread, but that relates to intermittent Cyl.2 misfire, and also intermittent ABS light. Thanks in advance.
  3. Adapting the CLS / alarm

Hi guys :) I recently bought a Ford Fiesta (2003 model) but the remote locking doesn't work. Frankly, I'm not willing to pay £125 for something so small. But I need the alarm because I've had it less than a month and it's already been vandalised. Unfortunately though, the alarm only activates when the car is double-locked, which you need the remote key for. So what I'd like to do instead of replacing the key is adapt the alarm system so that it activates when I lock the car with the key. This way, the car's slightly safer, there's one less thing to go wrong, and I'm not paying disproportionately large amounts of money. Is this possible? Many thanks.
  4. Hi all I'm hoping someone can help me with an issue I am having with my car alarm. For some reason my car alarm randomly goes off, this can be during the day or night. It always seems to happen when it is warm weather and not cold or during the winter. It did it last summer and has now started again June/July. Occasionally I get a warning light on my dashboard telling me the bonnet is open even when the bonnet is not open. This can happen whilst driving along randomly. I have searched forums and noticed that it seems to be a known fault and it is something to do with either the bonnet catch or humidity. Is there anyone out there who is having the same problem or has had the same problem? Is there a way of getting this issue resolved? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Many thanks
  5. Hi Guys, New here so please go easy. Here is the full story. So the tailgate boot handle corroded and fell off a couple of months ago. Being tight I decided it to tape it down for the time being until I could find a cheaper aftermarket part as all the official parts are very very expensive. So after a week of running around things started to go terribly wrong after a heavy frost. The dashboard centre console is now always on. I have read a number of different things that suggest that this is generally either a boot sensor or bonnet sensor reporting incorrectly. I have replaced the boot handle and checked the button and lights and all seem to be OK so next step is to check the related sensors. What is the easiest way for me to check these sensors? What do they look like? Anyone got any wiring diagrams? I am looking to bridge these for the time being. As this has taken me so long to pull my finger out my battery is now flat meaning the reserve alarm battery is kicking off in the night. I will replace the battery but I'd like to rule out these sensors first. Anyone with any information it would be greatly appreciated. Cheers
  6. Hello, Hopefully someone can help. I'm trying to renew my car insurance and one of the questions is asking if I have an alarm system? According to the user manual of the car I do, but I've never heard the car go off and i've tried many different tests but nothing??? I understand it has a immobiliser but just not sure about an actual alarm. It's a Ford Focus LX 54 plate. Many Thanks!
  7. So I just went out to my car and the fob wouldn't unlock it. I tried my spare and still nothing. Changed the battery and still nothing. I can open the car with the key but obviously it sets the alarm off! Any ideas what this could be and how much it will cost to fix? Thanks in advance!!
  8. Hi, I would like to charge the battery on my Focus Titanium X Estate 1.6L Ecoboost. It has key-less entry and lives in the car park outside of my flat. Now I have no issue (besides the awkward positioning) removing the battery, however the car needs to be locked while I take the battery up to the flat to charge. However, I am yet to find a way to lock the car before removing the battery without the alarm going off as soon as I remove a terminal from the battery. I have tried normal locking procedure, single press of the button, using the key inside the key fob and all of them result in the alarm going off when I remove the terminal. Locking the driver's door with the physical key after the battery is disconnected works, but it leaves the other three doors unlocked. Does anyone know the correct procedure for this where I get the battery off to charge, whilst the car is secure and I don't end up severely upsetting the neighbours? Cheers
  9. First of all, hello, all! I bought a 2004 streetKA yesterday at a bargain price. I was made aware that the central locking only worked with the key in the door. I took the car anyway and decided to get as far as I could before seeking advice...So, here goes! 1 - The key fob communicates with the car. 2 - Pressing the lock button causes the passenger side to lock, then unlock; drivers door remains silent; no lights flash. 3 - the key in the drivers door locks both doors. 4 - the key in passenger door locks the passenger door, then unlocks again. 5 - if I press the lock button on the key fob, whilst simultaneously, manually locking the drivers door causes the lights to flash, as the manual says, to show that the central locking has worked. 6 - if I disconnect the drives door like/trunk wiring and then press lock on the key fob, the lights flash and the passenger door locks. 7 - at no point has the alarm seemed to arm. It has not sounded or given me any indication that it's on. That's as detailed as I have been with diagnostics. Here are my queries: Would this have an affect on the alarm system not arming or am I looking at separate issues? (I've changed fuse 33, still nothing) How do I get the locking motor out of the door and where is it? I'm no electrician but with your guys' help, I might be able to solve the alarm problem! Thanks in advance! Perry
  10. I want to lock my focus zetec 2010 without alarm as I have dogs that occasionally I need to leave them in the car. How do I lock it without activating the alarm?
  11. Hi everyone, I've come across a strange problem which i'm hoping may be an easy fix to those of you with more experience than me. I've recently acquired an old 51 plate focus. While trying to fix a central locking related issue I followed some instructions on this fine forum and decided that I would check 'fuse 63' on the back of the internal fuse board. Having checked this to find it wasn't blown I replaced the fuse. Ever since replacing it the car alarm has been sounding every time i start the car or open the passenger door (cant unlock drivers door using the key which is the locking issue I was originally trying to solve). The car starts no problem but it is always accompanied by the hazard warning lights flashing and the alarm going off! To remedy this I have unplugged the horn but this is only a temporary fix to avoid waking the neighbors up when I head off to work tomorrow. Does anyone know why this is happening or how I can fix it? It may be relevant to explain that the central locking was a bit iffy when i got the car and the key fob was already broken i.e. would not operate the central locking by pressing the button. It came with the original fob key plus two other non remote keys. I have ordered another battery for the fob in the hopes that by some miracle it may just be an old battery which is at fault. Short of this any tips would be VERY much appreciated (by me and my poor neighbors). Before I posted this I searched the forum for an answer to a similar issue but could not find anything that matched my problem. My apologies if this is a question which has already been covered. Thanks to anyone who can offer their advice. Lewis
  12. Eve, my Mk2 Focus, has developed a little problem over the last couple of weeks. On a few occasions whilst driving I've had a warning that the rear passenger door is open which has now developed into the alarm going off occasionally whilst the car is parked up. I'm guessing that there's a problem with whatever it is that detects that the door is closed. Is there some kind of sensor in the lock mechanism? Any suggestions on how to resolve this would be appreciated - (i) what can I do to fix the problem? (ii) what components may need replacing? (iii) can I bypass it?
  13. Hi I have an 09 Mondeo Mk4 2.2 Titanium X Saloon 170k Lovely motor but having a couple of niggles, I was hoping for some wisdom Last week I was driving with missus and 2.5 children in the dark!! when the NX nav system decided to has a holiday?!?! basically it was off and on intermittently, however not the sound - consequently all the dials switched off including the converse+ - no external driving aids went on holiday though :D including the turning lights, blind spot light, indicators and Headlamps. the interior lights were working including the dial lamps. I pulled over and switched off and on to no avail. I fuelled up - that's to say it was off for about 5mins and this didn't do anything. After about ten mins I pulled over and switched off whilst the system was off I pressed every switch and button I could find started it up and still the same then I moved off and hey presto it all came back off holiday and worked. One thing I note is that previously the car would never notify that a key had been removed from the vehicle whilst running - now it does The car has never stood for more than 24 hours since I bought it 3 months ago, but over christmas it stood for 36 hours. When I went to start it the battery was flat and after a quick jump she started Now there's a notification on the dash informing me FORD would like to open my wallet in the context of : ALARM SYSTEM REQUIRES SERVICE Any Ideas would be gratefully read. rgds Pete
  14. Hi. I have a 62 plate Focus 1.6D Titanium and have been advised by a ferry company to immobilise the cars' alarm system. My local Ford garage is very uncertain suggesting I change the alarm security settings to 'Reduce Guard'. Another has said try using the strip key in the keyless fob. Any suggestions?
  15. Mk5 Alarm Problems

Hi Everyone, I've had a brand new Mk5 Mondeo since July this year and I've been having problems with the alarm going off after owning it for around a week. It's been into the dealers four times with the same issue and each time they say that they can't find any faults. An alarm on the car has been going off at various times of the day and night - sometimes it last for ten seconds sometimes it goes off for several minutes. There doesn't seem to be any particular pattern of when it goes off either - sometimes it doesn't go off for a few days and sometimes it goes off several times in the same day. Also I'm not able to turn the alarm off with my key fob when it goes off. On Sunday I was able to open the car and turn the engine off whilst the alarm was still going off. I'm not sure if it is a main security alarm either as no lights flash and the horn doesn't sound - it's just a siren noise. I'm really at my wits end with the car and the service from the dealer. Does anyone have any suggestions for what the problem could be or what steps I could take next? Thank you.
  16. My father in law has just bought a 06 focus 1.8tdci ghia focus estate he's got a dog and sometimes leaves him in the car to nip into shops etc, he's having problems with the alarm going off with the dog inside, how can he get it to to stop going off when he leaves the dog in the car? cheers
  17. Problem With Alarm

My C-Max (UK 2004 Mk.I Zetec 1.6 TDCi) alarm has recently started going off at random. Currently seems to once every few days or so. Have seen some suggestions about bonnet catch being an issue. Anyone know of a way to check the catch is at fault before I replace it? Anyone know anything else I can/should check? Anyone know how to disable the alarm until I can get it fixed? Thanks!
  18. Hi all I have a 2012 focus titanium and for the past 3 days my alarm has been going off randomly. I have checked all the doors, windows, boot and bonnet and they are all closed. I have turned the interior alarm sensor off too and the alarm still goes off. Can anyone give any advise as to why my alarm is going off. Many thanks Paul
  19. http://www.theregister.co.uk/2015/05/20/car_park_vehicle_locks_hacked_en_masse/ Heres the part of note. {Prehaps of interest to those keyless entry/start car owners and recent spate of thefts) "There have been a spate of thefts reported which appear to be linked to devices used to amplify the signal from your keys whilst in your house. The car unlocks outside on your drive, as it thinks the key is now within range, the thief gets in and drives off."
  20. Hi all, I hope someone can give me some advice I bought a 2011 1.6 TDCi S-Max in January to replace my written off Mondeo. Since I have had it, I have had nothing but niggles with electrical systems in the car. It started out with the bonnet claiming to be open when it was firmly closed and the alarm going off because of it, and a speaker in the dash that wasn't working. The dealer cleaned up the bonnet catch and hey presto the bonnet registered as closed and the alarm stopped waking up the neighbours in the night. I've been trying to find a good day to get it in to look at the wiring for the speaker as it works intermittently, sometimes crackling, sometimes with good sound and sometimes not working at all. I have had other issues crop up in the last week though: The parking sensors beeping at me when I'm driving forwards slowly The radio console not lighting up at all - after pressing some buttons the CD player worked, but I couldn't change it to radio or turn it off without turning off the ignition The near-side windows would only open half an inch, and go up again, but not open more than half an inch All of these things have spontaneously resolved. And now the bonnet is claiming to be open again and the alarm keeps going off. I love the car but might go all Basil Fawlty on it at this rate . The dealer has been very helpful, but I have limited time I can let them have the car to fiddle about with. My concern is that it's something major rather than lots of niggly dodgy connections. I would be grateful for any pointers so that I can steer the dealer in the right diection rather than waste time. Many thanks
  21. Hi Guys, Just bought a 2001 Focus Estate TDDI and found that the CL doesnt work :/ ive checked the fuse and thats fine, when i came to check the Siemens Box i found that three wires leading to the Green connector (Yellow, 2 x B&W) have been cut... Anyone know why these wires would have been cut and could this be my problem? CL doesn't work at all but the boot button works if the passenger door is unlocked... Any help would be appreciated! Cheers Adam
  22. Hi guys. I have owned my 2001 focus mk1 for coming up to two years now and I have just realised that I would not recognise my alarm if it was going off. Any ideas how I can test it? Incidental, would I need the key fob working to shut it off? I think it needs recoding. I left it uncharged for a long time and now after changing the battery it still isn't working.
  23. Hi All, Just before I start I saw this somewhere else on here before but can't find it again, and before I go breaking any rules, I'm not affiliated with this company anyway, just thought it was valuable knowledge to share. Apparently Cars like this are stolen every week, are stripped and sold for parts, pretty hard to trace once the car is dismantled and fitted/sold around. Was browsing through youtube on my iPad and one of the suggest videos was this: http://www.youtube.com/embed/dvmSOEKfkug?list=UUYUbIXYW8qzVjK5mt1G66g After watching it, I thought it would be useful for any ST/RS owners who want to upgrade the security on their car. Seems like a good system but at a price, can't speak from experience but it just looks to easy.. Anyway here is the full site and information: http://www.securemycar.co.uk/Ford-focus-rs-stolen-viper-car-alarm.html Regards, Max.
  24. Afternoon all, I am new to the club, new to the Ford world and new to the driving world for that matter. I have recently got myself a 2006 (56) Ford Fiesta Zetec Climate 1.4L and absolutely loving it. Overtime, I am getting to know the car and how to go about using/maintaining it. So recently, it hit me that I don't know how the alarm system sounds so I went about trying to make it chime by a number of ways: - Open bonnet once locked (for more than 1 minute) - No luck - Sit inside, lock it and wave hands around - No luck - Start the engine whilst locked - No luck. ^ Single and double locked. I have a very strong feeling that it doesn't actually have an anti-theft alarm system and I wanted to make sure for certain whether it does or not. Are there any sure-fire ways of figuring this out? If it doesn't, is it actually worth getting one in? If so, roughly how much does one cost? Alternatively, are there any ways to deter people from giving it a go? or any alternative safety measures I can install with relatively small cost? Thanks in advance for your help! Neel
  25. Random Alarm Activation

Help needed please. I have bought a 53 plate C-Max 1.8 Zetec and absolutely love the car. It night and drive like new and has only done just over 50,000 miles. The only problem I have is that the alarm decides to go off anywhere between 7.30 at 5 in the morning. The battery is fully charged and is not faulty. As far as I am aware there is no internal sensors fitted in the interior light cluster. I have checked the display for any codes but it shows none at all. I have noticed on another forum that it may be the bonnet switch and to disconnect the switch and place a wire link between the wires to simulate the switch which I am trying now. Any help would be appreciated. Can the alarm be completely turned off or would that mean that the immobiliser wouldn't work either.
