Posting in General Chat thread.   11/11/2017

it has been noted that too many Members are posting messages in the General Chat area instead of the correct Forums. Any messages posted in the General Chat area that are not General Chat will be deleted without warning and offenders may recieve warning points if repeated instances are seen from that Member. There are plenty of different Club areas that encompass 99% of Ford related posts, please select and use the correct one. If anyone is not sure of which area to post something then feel free to P/M myself or other Senior Staff for guidance. The Moderating Staff are having to spend far too much time chasing this problem instead of maintaining the other areas of the forum.

  1. This is driving me insane! My new Ford has automatic direction indicator cancelling. The manual doesn't say how it can be turned off. It's so irritating! It is totally distracting to my driving having to constantly keep hitting the indicator switch over and over and over and over - instead of just hitting it once at the start then once at the end. In particular, parking is a nightmare. Instead of looking around for hazards, I have to keep going back to the indicator over and over. Who would want a car that works this way? It's also frustrating when I want to do a quick indication, for example when I'm moving the car slightly to the right because of a minor hazard on the road. I don't want a long indication in those situations, or people might think I'm going to pull into a junction. Please can someone help!? I am well aware that 99.9% of drivers don't bother to indicate, and don't care about indicating, or letting other road users know what their intentions are. However, I like to drive properly, and indicating is important to me. So this automatic indicator is driving me mad!
  2. Hi I am joining the official ranks of the juddering powershifters owners club and just about to start the process of trying to get Ford to sort it. So if you'll bear with me, some background and then a couple of questions for anyone in the know. Car: Nothing in particular special about it. It's a 1.6 Titanium Automatic on a 62 plate (build 23/11/2012, sold a couple of weeks later). Special to me though. Great load-lugger for band equipment and the black looks awesome on the drive. I bought the car in July 2016. Problem: I noticed around March this year that the clutch would judder. I managed to narrow it down to once the car has heated up (about 15 minutes of driving) and if I was stuck in traffic, the car would judder in gears 1 and 2. I also noticed that if I went from a slow speed and then took off with decent acceleration that the judder would persist or the car just wouldn't do a good job of deciding what gear it should be in. This is also taking a dramatic hit on the mpg. Right now over a week, my combined MPG is around 31mpg which is a bit rubbish if you ask me. First efforts: I had my MOT due in July 2017. I had already reported the issue to my dealership when I first noticed. They just said that there was a recall on the vehicle for software and I would be just as well to wait until my MOT/Service to have it done. Not a problem, I waited. I picked up the car and the girl said that they did the software and had reset whatever it is they had reset. It reoccurred maybe 3-4 weeks after. I've been using it like that until now after reading the horror stories of clutch packs and £1600 bills. Frankly I can't do £1600 and given my only warranty was a 1-year ford direct used warranty and I've been busy with work lately, I just didn't have time until the last few days. OK my fault, no excuse, silly me. So I'm doing a little more research and I check on ETIS that I have an Outstanding Field Service Action which is: 4W567 - DPS6/6DCT250. Ford Customer Service: I didn't call up to have a go, I merely wanted to know direct from Ford what this was, was it actually a warranty extension as various Google posts seem to think and what exactly is covered? The question had been raised on one of the topics I had read that this OFS only covered the actual software and not the clutch pack, gearbox, what have you. Ford Customer Service rep wouldn't even confirm that it was even a warranty extension, only that the OFS related to the "gearbox control module". He wouldn't be any more specific than that and referred me to my dealership. Without sounding like "that guy" it sounded like an offshore call center to me so I accepted this guy had no clue what I was on about in any case. Dealership: I called up the dealership. The guy who booked me in was a lot more helpful. I'm using Gates of Stevenage as it's my closest one, but I don't know if the booking in guys are some sort of Centralised place or if it's a bloke sat in Stevenage somewhere. Whatever is the case, he was as helpful as he could be. He listened to what I was saying and said that the warranty was extended on my gearbox. He couldn't say how long the warranty was extended too and referred me to Ford Customer Services (I don't think I'll bother getting back to FCS given the above conversation) but I'm happy he gave me what information he had to hand. Well, he can't give me what he doesn't have. tl/dr: So my story so far is it's going in on Thursday. It's had the software update/reset whatever it is and the problem is not resolved. So my questions if anybody knows is: 1 My car is a 2012/13 build. Is my OFSA code 4W567 - DPS6/6DCT250 still valid? Is it five years as what seems to be posted? If so that takes me up to December 2017 which is grand. 2 If it is indeed covered until December 2012 and my dealership do another software fix, if the problem reoccurs after December 2017 when my (suspected) five year extension is up, am I basically boned? Or because the software fix didn't fix the issue, will it still come under this OFSA given the problem was reported initially within the period? 3 Does anybody actually know what exactly is covered? Does it relate to software only? Is it the entire gearbox? 4 Has anyone been through this process before with their Powershift gearbox? What was your result and rough timeline to get it resolved? 5 Did anyone not get any luck with this OFSA? If so, just so I'm prepared for the worst case scenario of my dealership saying "No warranty, box is boned, your bill is £xxxx", what sort of money am I looking at for a proper permanent fix and how long are we talking? Given my work, being without a car will be very difficult. Not impossible and I can put up with it for a couple of weeks if need be but if we're talking months then I have a bigger issue. I will keep this post updated as to be honest, on my travels I didn't really find any comprehensive timelines. So for any would-be Googlers of the future, hope I can help!
  3. Fiesta 1.4 Auto 2009

Evening all, purchased a 09 fiesta auto, full ford history, very pleased. Only question is at lights, it continues to pull with the brake pressed. Once today (driven 120 miles), it "clicked" when i released the brake it then moved forward. Is there something that tells the car its stopped and cuts the drive? Thanks in advance
  4. Hello, everyone. I have a very quick question about the Sport mode in the PowerShift transmission on my new Ford Mondeo (11/2012 Titatium Ecoboost 2.0 203cv Powershift), which I just picked up today: Does the car need to be stopped, in order to switch between "Drive" and "Sport"? And if not, if there any speed limit to do this? Incredibly, the Ford seller couldn't answer me this question and the owner's manual isn't clear as well: while it says that "When you select position S, a gear change may occur depending on the accelerator pedal position in relation to actual vehicle speed" - thus implying that it can, indeed, be changed while moving - it also clearly says to "Apply the brakes before moving the selector lever and keep them applied until you are ready to move off". This can be seen in the Mondeo Owner's Manual: (http://www.fordservicecontent.com/pubs/content/~WOCMND/~MGB~LEN/pdf/12MNDog2e.pdf, page 151 and 152) I'd appreciate some help. Thank you in advance.
  5. Please help I have a Ford Fusion on a 2008 1.6 petrol i can turn the car on if you drive over 1700 revs it either cuts out and stalls or jumps about and then will come up gearbox transmission failure if anyone has any ideas please let me know
  6. Hello All After giving me great, reliable service the time has come to replace my 57 plate Mondeo ghia with something newer. My question is simple. How reliable/good is the powershift box? There seems to be some bad press surrounding this box. Software upgrades and extended warranties are talked about. I don't want to buy something that will let me down and or cost money. I cover around 10k per year and looking to get a 63 plate or newer Focus 2l TDCI 140 or 163 with powershift. I would be grateful for no hearsay replies, just facts. If any ford mechanics have any comments they wish to keep private that's fine. Please message me. Thanks in advance for your help. Ian
  7. Hey there! My parents have a 2011 Ford Focus automatic, that has developed a fault where it shudders in 2nd gear and sometimes struggles to go into reverse. It has only developed over the past couple of weeks. The car has low mileage (Only around 15,000). Has anyone heard of this or can help?
  8. Hope folks don't mind me checking out what my next Ford service will cost at the end of November. Its a Titanium X 1.0L Ecoboost PS Automatic Nov 2014 on 64 plate... Ford authorised Dealer I bought it from says it's an Interim Service which will be £196 including VAT just wondered if this was standard? Thing is in rural Somerset I don't have a lot of choice. Many Thanks Jamie
  9. I am a newish member and this first post. Had my current Focus ( Reg September 2010) Titanium automatic since beginning of May While driving my accelerator jammed open while driving. I managed to overcome by hitting brakes hard. Is this a know issue?
  10. which petrol auto for £3k ?

Hello. Well Honest John rates the petrol automatic when buying a high miler. Though I only seem to be able to see the 2 litre on sale. Its the TC auto I seek as they are usually long-lived - but I only have £3k to spend. I need to get a reliable daily driver for local and country lane driving, but missus can only use an auto. I am also hoping a petrol motor will avoid all diesel complications when buying a 90k mile plus diesel. A high mileage petrol should be a better bet shouldn't it ? I am an experienced diesel and hydraulics engineer so know what to look at in the oily bits department, its the model and reliability that I need help on. All contributions gratefully received - thanks m

  12. Hi, I was hoover the interior of my mondeo the other day and accidentally hoovered up this, what seems to be, fuse cover located on the automatic transmission (please see pic). This is a small round plastic cover - can't find it in the hoover bag so, being a perfectionist, need to source another one. Problem is, what do I call it? So I can start looking. Or does anyone know where I can get one? Many thanks in advance! M
  13. Just finished a day of troubleshooting and no luck. My 2008 Ford Focus has a very small bulb that illuminates the gear selection panel from inside the center console. The bulb and area wiring are all intact, upon testing and providing alternate power I can fire up the bulb, but am getting no power to the bulb from chassis. All fuses have been checked and seem to be in working order, not sure where to go next, bought Haynes and Chilton manuals but wiring diagrams don't match the car at all (manuals seem to cover 2000-2007....& 2007-11 as a general guide). Looking for help and suggestions, thank you.
  14. Hi all, I have a Ford Fiesta 2003 1.4 Durashift Automatic, the car has issues with 3rd gear. When driving the car will shift into 3rd gear but there will be no bite, almost like the car is in neutral. As you are driving the car will shift into 3rd but then you end up reving to the red line and there is no power. If you let off the gas and let the revs goes down the car will shift into 3rd gear and continue as normal. The issue only happens occasionally. Can anybody offer any advise on how to resolve this issue? Thanks!
  15. Hi folks, My first post on here, and I'm not particularly knowledgable with cars, so be gentle! We bought our Focus Estate (automatic) 2012 second-hand last September, and within the first few weeks we noticed that driving off from a standing start (or cruising very slowly), the car would judder like the engine was cold & spluttering into life. But when you get above a certain speed (10mph+) it's fine. This happens at any time - from driving off in the morning, to pulling away from lights after driving for a decent amount of time. So we went back to the Ford dealership for them to look at it. After a few days (thankfully we got a courtesy car in the meantime) they explained that the gearbox needed 're-learning'. When we got it back it was working well. Now it has started doing it again, in fact it's been like this for the past few weeks, but you probably know how it is with young children, you struggle to find a good time to hand the car in. Plus I'd appreciate advice from you lot before I do, so I have the appropriate information (ammunition). The car is still under warranty until June, so I'm hoping that any further repairs will come under that. I'm also concerned that there may be a bigger issue with the gearbox itself, and 're-learning' was just the easy way out for a quick fix. I don't want to constantly be taking the car back to get this done! I've read that there are ways to 're-learn' the gearbox yourself - something to do with the battery or fuses fiddled with (don't worry, I don't like fiddling with anything electrical that'll do me harm!). So has anyone had this issue themselves, and how did you get it sorted? What sort of demands or questions should I have when I contact them? Is it best to go back to the Ford dealer that saw it last time? Or does it not matter? Apart from the gearbox issue, the car is great. Love it :) Any advice on this topic would be much appreciated. Thanks! Ali.
  16. New Member With Focus Problems

Hi all fellow Ford owners, Im rob from Kent, I would tell you about my mk2 focus but i doubt most of you will have that much time to get to the bottom of the issues im having with it......but for those of you still reading this; here goes. *The airbag light stays on all the time, checked wiring but seems no loose wires anywhere so im not sure how to turn the thing off!!!! * The engine warning light came on just before weekend, however the car appears to be running perfectly fine. I tried the trick of checking the diagnostics by holding the trip button down on the dials but this came back as NONE on the faults screen???? What could this have been? or is it a case of the previous owner changed a sensor and didnt reset the light with proper equipment? * The heater cooling fan comes on after about 5mins of normal driving and comes on and off thereafter, then tempeture gauge is in the middle as normal so im a bit lost at why its doing this? If you good people have taken the time to read all of this then i hope someone can shed some light on these issues. I know im new but i hope im not a big pain in the bum
  17. Hi Boys and Girls, I'm the proud owner of a 55 reg focus 1.6 tdci security dog van and, would like some help with locating a gearbox for it. I'm so far finding this seemingly simple task increasingly impossible as they are a rare car to start with. I'm wondering if anyone knows if any of the gearboxes from the petrol variant will fit or any from say a cmax or fiesta (if they made this in an auto diesel)? If I knew some answers then I'd be able to widen my search including these models. If anyone knows of anyone with a gearbox for my car, please do get in touch as I want to get my dog van back on the road ASAP. Thanks in Advance. Bally80
  18. Hi there, first time ford owner here. I have recently purchased a 2007 focus estate 2.0 petrol automatic. I was wondering if it is possible to fit a turbo conversion to this engine? If so, what would I need to complete the conversion.? Also I was wondering what other 'tasty' non-ricer mods are available for this car? Cheers, Mike.
  19. Struggling To Start?

Hello everyone! I currently have a Ford Focus Mk2.5 Facelift, and i keep having trouble with it not starting. Its an automatic, the message i get most of the time when it won't start is ESP off however the ESP does work as on my way to work most of the time i hear it kick in on the country lanes. Also Occasionally i'll get a transmission failure warning and then the car starts beeping at me. If i turn it off and try again it will struggle and then start. This doesn't happen all of the time. Around once a week? Where it is automatic i am hoping there is nothing wrong with the box, as it will be expensive. Dads a mechanic and he has no idea what it could be. Any help greatly appreciated! TIA Jonathan.
  20. I've experienced 1st to 2nd gear juddering a few times on our 1.6 Zetec DSG auto, 2,700 miles. It doesn't do it under manual selection, only in auto. It's booked in with dealer for Jan 2nd and they seem to know all about it as a common problem so just a heads up for anyone with the same. Apparently the DGS box has to have a recalibration first and if that doesn't work it's new clutch packs!
  21. Hi everyone, I'm having two problems with my 2002 Focus w/ an auto transmission. One is that during acceleration, seemingly in any gear, the transmission will "skip" and downshift for a couple seconds, then "knock" back into the appropriate gear. This leads me to believe there is an issue with the transmission, so I made an appointment with a tranny shop to scan the thing and make sure all codes are correct. The second issue is that the headlights and radio have begun flickering and dimming. This makes me think the alternator is at fault. Often, but not always, these two issues will happen at the same time; the transmission downshifts and the radio & headlights flicker, then they correct themselves almost immediately. I'll add that 10 months ago I had a new radio installed; no amp or anything, just a head unit. Other than that this vehicle has had no major issues or repairs in its 12-year, 85,000 kilometer lifespan. Is the alternator and transmission linked in some way? Could this be a battery issue? Fuses? Or two separate issues altogether? Are these issues a cause for concern? I'd appreciate the insight that any of you have into the innerworkings of this vehicle, whether you've experienced similar issues or simply know more about it than I do and are willing to share. Thanks in advance, Alex
  22. Hi All, my automatic drive belt tensioner failed last night, belt wrecked and need to replace it as soon as shops open tomorrow. I have been looking at the haynes manual regarding moving Power steering reservoir etc. Even with these items moved I cannot see the bolts/nuts I need to remove to get the tensioner out. It looks like I need to remove the air conditioning compressor from the engine as the bolts securing it also seem to secure the tensioner, is this correct?? Does anyone have a clear picture of one of these tensioners I can look at? Thanks guys Mark.
  23. Please help!! Have brought an s max 2 days ago, have driven the car over 100 miles with no problems. However driving today the car just stop dead in the middle of the road. It felt as if the handbreak had been put on. I put the car in neutral then back into drive and still nothing. Then put the car into park then back to drive, still nothing. Somebody that was passing then jumped in the car and managed to get the car to the side of the road. Once the car was put back into park it then wouldn't move again. It is an automatic handbreak, so it usually releases itself. I tried to release the handbreak myself (the handbreak light came off on the dash) and it still just feels like the car has the handbreak on. The car goes to pull away, the back end squats but it just won't move. Had anyone else had this problem? Please help!!
  24. Hi guys, bit of a strange one for you here.... I've only had my Fiesta (a 2007 1.4 Zetec with automatic transmission) since August of 2013 (it's JUST within its 3 months warranty). Bought it used, two previous owners but only done about 25,000 miles so pretty good nick. Was out driving. Dropped a friend off, went to pull off and the guy in front of me opens his door, so from a stop I quickly put it into reverse to get more room to pull around him and away. Went to put it back into 'Drive', put my foot down and...nothing. I think it beeped an error message at me, so I quickly turned the engine off and went to start it up again. It wouldn't re-start; kept flashing an error light (the 'transmission' symbol') and telling me in the display to refer to the manual as there was a transmission error. We turned it off, took the handbrake off and pushed it to the side of the road. Got picked up by recovery and taken home. As he was loading it onto the breakdown truck, the guy noticed that even though it was in neutral, the reverse lights were still on..... Which probably isn't good....... It's booked into a local branch of the garage chain I bought it from (Evans Halshaw) because it's still (JUST!) within its 3 months warranty. Hopefully getting looked at tomorrow but I'm not holding out much hope of a quick fix as it seems the auto transmission Fiestas are rare.... Anybody ever experienced this before? The only weird thing that happened before this is that on cold starts it would sometimes 'pause' when trying to kick into third gear, but only for like one or two seconds..... But we're talking maybe once a month and I drive it nearly every day. Does it sound like an easy fix? Or should I be worried?
  25. Engine/gearbox Compatibility?

Hi. So ive got a 1.8 mk1 focus zetec. The bottom end is rattling, hence; knackered. However, im looking to do an engine change. I've spotted a mint 2.0 automatic engine. Question is, will this fit straight up to my manual gearbox and is there any ACTUAL difference between a manual engine and this one that i need to be aware of? All help welcome.
