Posting in General Chat thread.   11/11/2017

it has been noted that too many Members are posting messages in the General Chat area instead of the correct Forums. Any messages posted in the General Chat area that are not General Chat will be deleted without warning and offenders may recieve warning points if repeated instances are seen from that Member. There are plenty of different Club areas that encompass 99% of Ford related posts, please select and use the correct one. If anyone is not sure of which area to post something then feel free to P/M myself or other Senior Staff for guidance. The Moderating Staff are having to spend far too much time chasing this problem instead of maintaining the other areas of the forum.

  1. Help very much required. For the passed 2 weeks almost every day I seem to be having trouble with my car. I have a 2017 ford fiesta zetec 1.0 ecoboost. Sometimes when I am stopped in traffic then go to pull off, as I find the biting point and release the emegency brake the car does not move, even when I apply the accelerator. When I then go to reapply the emergency brake it feels very stiff and won't depress. If I try to move off again it does the same thing. I have to aggressively push the brake a few times to get it to unstick. This has happened a few times specifically when I have released the clutch a bit too fast and twice after the car has been stalled (when it doesn't' ask for a manual restart) but other times it just happens when it's a normal pull off. It is important to say that once the emergency brake has been released in these situations the car does not roll forward or back. I've checked the brake servo to see if something was wrong with that, my brakes aren't spongy and usually just applying the lightest bit of pressure stops the car so I am not sure what is going on. My clutch seems to work fine too, my auto start stop works and I have to push the clutch down to start my engine, I also have no problem with changing gears (beyond the odd occasion where it pops out of reverse but this happened in my instructors car too which is the same model as mine) have tried to Google it but nothing that sounds like this pops up. I would prefer to know what it may be before taking it to the garage. If anyone could please help me with this I would very much appreciate it!

  3. When I'm coming to a stop and I press my brake pedal it makes a squeak sound but when I come of the pedal it's even louder, when I'm just driving along to slow down, it's doesn't make any noise, only when the pedal travels as far as it can go without being forceful. not sure if my brake fluid needs changing, any suggestions are appreciated.
  4. Hi all, hope someone could help with a noise on my ST220. This is the noise I'm talking about. Its coming from both rear wheels, but mostly rear left. Engine is turned off in video. It only starts after the car has travelled over a few miles, and it's more prevalent on a hot day. It doesn't seem to go away when the brakes are pushed, and the noise is tied to car moving speed. I jacked the car up (albeit when cold) and checked the calipers, regreased slide pins, regreased the pads and checked to make sure handbrake was releasing properly. Everything brake wise seemed fine, pads are a couple years old but have LOADS of material left. Discs don't seem warped. Wheels seemed to turn freely. My only other thought is whether it's the hubs. The sound seems like a rubber squealing (or like a squeegee on glass), and the only bits of moving rubber I know of are in the rear hub. Rear left has suddenly got very loud today, and right has slowly started aswell. Any input or opinions are appreciated, and sorry for the long post. Cheers, Tom
  5. Hi all, I need to buy a brake piston wind-back tool. Does anyone know the pitch of the holes in the piston? I've seen the tools on ebay for reasonable monies, but they come n a vast array of sizes. Centres of pins I've seen advertised as "suitable for Ford" are 22mm, 24mm, 25mm, 35mm. Does anyone know the distance between the centres of the holes for Focus Mk2 (2006)? It would save me from having to take it apart to have a look then fail to get it back together cos I can't wind the piston in. Sam.
  6. Hi all, Focus Mk2, 1.8 TDCi Ghia (How do I know if I might have a Mk2.5?) Got an awful dull metallic rattling from the rear drivers side, seems to go away when I brake, doesn't occur with large bumps - mostly just on rough or uneven surfaces, VERY audible from outside the car (people on the street turn to look - embarrassing!). I've secured the heat sheilding and it's not the exhaust - seems to come from the wheel area. I suspect caliper or brake pad rattle, although I can't move anything with my hand when the wheel is off. Couple of questions... Anyone had and solved something similar? Could it be shock absorber or top mount (ex-Ford tech suggested this)? Should my brake pads have anti-rattle shims? Doesn't have them at the moment (I've disassembled the caliper, cleaned, greased and refitted - no difference, or seems to be getting worse.) Do I need these shims, pic attached (or something similar). The caliper retainer spring/clip thinggies were seized in and I suspect the last time the brake pads were replaced (not by me) it was just bent out of the way and bent back again afterwards. Should I replace the spring clips - could it be that? Any help and advice gratefully received. Sam.
  7. Hello all, I am looking for a bit of advice or to see if anyone has had or is having a similar experience with their Mondeo. I bought the car last year and all was well until about 3 months ago when i suddenly heard a very high pitched squealing noise coming from one of the rear wheels, after i had parked it up for a couple of hours and got back in the noise was gone. Now i have noticed that after heavy braking periods the noise will re-appear very subtle just a intermittent squeak as the wheel turns and then it just gets louder and louder until it is a head turning constant hell raising scream, i have also noticed when i exit the car after this event the rear offside wheel is boiling hot. If we have no heavy braking events the car is perfectly fine, over the last 2 weeks i have done several 40-80 mile runs down the motorway with no issues at all, but a quick run to the shops when i had to brake heavily on one occasion set it off again. Things i have noticed: The squeal stops if i slightly touch the brakes or handbrake. Squeal becomes less noticeable while turning left or right. Rear offside wheel, brake disc, and caliper become VERY hot. Stopping the car for a few minutes seems to remedy the issue. Noise will eventually suddenly stop if i continue driving at speed (Motorway). Braking is fine, no grinding, fade or vibrations etc. Things we have tried: New brake pads twice (After several loud squeal events the pads literally turn to charcoal) New Disc New Caliper New handbrake cable We have wondered if it could be the wheel bearing, but would that not cause issues on every single journey? also the car just went through its MOT with no issues at all. Any help greatly appreciated. Nick.

  10. Best aftermarket website

New to this site so hi everyone. Been looking through the posts and can't find what I'm after so this is the reason for this. I'm looking for a website or brand what basically will cover most parts of the fiesta mk7 2010, I'm just looking at improving all parts including suspension(drop links, anti roll bars, ball joints etc) all components for the brakes. Basically everything except the whole engine and chassis lol, would do a few things to engine but not much as is only a 1.25 zetec. Any help or links would be very much appreciated
  11. 2014 Ford fiesta ecoboost 1.0 Does anyone know the original thickness of front brake pads and rear disc brakes Just had a service 10,600 miles in 3 years and front pads = 8mm and rear discs are 4mm. Last year my front pads were 5mm and rear discs nothing recorded !!!!! Both services were done at the same place Please advice on original sizes when car was new I cannot find this information anywhere in my books/papers Thanks
  12. Focus mk1

Hey first post looking for some help please. My car failed mot 2 days ago due to imbalance on rear brakes. Local garage took them apart cleaned them all everything seems fine put back on mot roller and the brakes are still out by 50%. After having a look today i took them of my self no leaks etc etc as they were done 12 months ago. Then i had a look where the brake pedal is and there's a slight weep of fluid could that cause this problem? Any help be greatful
  13. Brembos pads and disks

Just quoted up some pads and disks for the front of my mk7 fiesta zetec s. As I've never done this before and don't really know which direction to look in other than euros, does £125 seem reasonable for brembos. Only reason I chose brembos are because they are the cheapest 'decent' brand I know of, only cheaper one is eicher which when I read reviews all seemed bad. The brembos have a 30% discount on them which ends tonight making them £125, so I'd like to order them tonight ideally if the price seems okay. I'm happy to carry out the work myself but just don't want to over spend if there are a cheaper/better option. Sorry for the long post any help would be appreciated😃
  14. Brake Pads & Disc Make ???

Hi All, I'm looking at replacing my brake pads & discs and wondered which brand is the best? I've been told to stay away from Eicher, and looking around the forum it seems to be between Brembo & Pagid? Thanks for any comments Kyle
  15. I've had a quick look about online, but never changed them before so not sure what the best would be for my mk7 fiesta. Any suggestions what make brake disks and pads are best but also won't cost a fortune? Also will they come with the small clips or will I need to buy them too?
  16. Ford Focus Mk2.5 Brake Noise

hi, I am having an issue with my Focus Mk2.5 Brakes. Last year my brakes started to squeal and make funny noises. I asked a few people what i should do and as i had just bought the car second hand i was told to change the pads as they could be cheap or in bad condition. i changed the pads with Eicher pads (all round). These worked fine for about 2 months until one day they started clunking when i braked. i did a bit of googling around and lots of people suggested that Eicher pads do not fit the callipers exactly and the recommendation was to pay a bit more for pads and to change the carrier sliders as they may be worn or sticking. So i changed the pads again to Brembo, along with the sliders. I thought this would be the last time i wold visit this issue but it has resurfaced again 6 months since i did the pads and sliders. i have checked that the pads are copper greased and the sliders are all greased and push freely. The Noise i can only described as a clunk when i brake. It will do it once initially then not do it for a few hundred yards (like it's reset), then it will do it again. Can anyone shed any light on the matter, i'm now out of all ideas what to do? Thanks
  17. Failed MOT HELP!!

Hey All, Just had my car in for a service, and its failed MOT with the things below. In your experience how much would you expect to pay for these repairs? The cost for new brake pads and disks is £216 The cost for the parking brake "fix" is £172 (apparently includes the purchase of multiple handbrake cables). Also is the shock absorber advisory anything to be worried about? (if so is it expensive to fix?) Help!! I have no idea if I'm being ripped off or not! Any advice would be highly appreciated :) Reason(s) for failure offside rear rear brake recording little or no effort (3.7.B.5a) front brake disc in such a condition that it is seriously weakened (3.5.1i) Parking brake: efficiency below requirements (3.7.B.7) Advisory notice item(s) offside rear Shock absorber has a light misting of oil (2.7.3)
  18. Hi all, About 3 months ago I bought my first daily / personal Ford, a 2008 Focus 1.6 Petrol, and it had 58348 miles on the clock (i've also got a Ford Puma, but that's being kitted out for rallying). It's now on roughly 61350, and am just wandering how often does this vehicle need servicing to your experiences. I want to keep on top of it, but don't want to be servicing every so often, as the manual describes when I don't need too. Just things like Oil change and filter, cambelt / timing belt change, brake fluid, etc. Some of it I can do myself, with mates pitching on the rest, like i've done with my previous cars. It had a service when bought, but does anything really need changing at 3k miles?? If not, at every how many miles should it get serviced. I tend to do a lot of miles in my cars and average 19k - 21k a year. Thanks in advance for any help, advice, tips and hints provided!
  19. Brake warning light on

Hi, live got a mk1.5 1.6 Ford Focus. i was driving home tonight and noticed the brake warning light was on. It's constant and not flickering. There's no abs light. Just this one. However it's very faint.. Is it a common problem that there's a loose connection somewhere? If I put the handbrake on it comes on brightly as you'd expect. ive checked the fluid once the engine was cold and there's plenty in there, ive also since taken it for a drive and stamped on the brakes and it stops fine. The pads look okay, but not 100 sure. I've read online there's a wear indicator in the pads that could active the light? thanks for any advice. Chris
  20. Hey there, Recently joined after lurking a bit. Am I the only one who has issues finding parts for this car? I mean the 1.6 has plenty but when it comes to the 1.5l ecoboost I need to constantly contact people for them to say 1.6 is what they offer. Has anyone purchased some proper aftermarket brake rotors for the aforesaid model? I would appreciate some recommendations that may fit. Thanks in advance.
  21. Hello, I've made a bit of a mistake and driven hundreds of miles with my trolly jack and jack stands to my parents house with the intention of putting some new pads on my mark 7 ford fiesta (as they have garage space). However I've left my haynes manual at home which has all the torque specs and minimum disc thickness info. Could anyone on here be a real star and snap/ scan the page at the start of the brake section which has the torque specs and minimal disc thickness info? Thanks in advance, J
  22. Whenever I engage my brakes I get a reasonably loud clunk from the front right of my car, it only does this when it is moving and wont do it stationary. I've had multiple mechanics look at this including one from Ford and they don't have a definitive answer. Bushes are all fine, drive shaft all fine, and no obvious play anywhere according to everyone I have seen. Plenty of life left in the pads and the brakes are fully functional. Such an annoying loud 'clunk' and it doesn't even do it all the time but when it does you know about it!! If anyone has experienced this and found out what it is they would be a life saver!! Thanks in advance :)
  23. Good morning all, apologies if this is in the wrong place, this is my first post and my car has made me look to the forums for answers. I have a 2003 Focus, I bought it in March with a 12 month MOT and so far, up until the weekend, it has been flawless. However, a Friday evening trip to Bridgnorth had me driving longer than I normally would and it has been much hotter. About 40 minutes into the journey I heard a rumbling sound from the brakes, this was after some heavy use. I eased off the brakes for a little bit and they returned to normal with no noise what so ever. Sunday I took the little beast to Barmouth, we were a good hour and a half into the journey when the same noise started again after some extra use. It was again a loud rumbling sound that filled the inside of the car. I eased off the brakes a little to let them cool off and it was back to normal. My first thought, with me knowing absolutely nothing about cars, was that the brake pads had wore down and that the extra breaking was causing them to over heat. Once I got back home I investigated how much brake pad I had left, It looks to me like i have lots. What I have noticed though, and please excuse me if i cannot explain this correctly, is that the inside disc looks a little worn around the rim. Now this doesn't look like fresh wear, it looks like its been like this for some time and it is exactly the same on the other side. I have attached some pictures of the brakes so you can try and get an idea of what I am trying to explain - Again, I am sorry for my poor knowledge. I was wondering if anyone else had experienced this problem at all please or knows the probable cause. I contacted a mechanic and his initial response was to change the pads and discs. However, the problem only happens when the brakes get really hot, i would of thought that there would of been a constant issue if i needed new parts, but at the same time, I have admitted that I know nothing about cars. Any help would be appreciated Thank you Anthony
  24. Brake Clunk

hi, i'm quite new to this forum so i'm not too sure on how i start this question off so i'll just jump in. I have a ford focus mk2 version 2. When i got it i noticed the brakes squealed a lot and there was a clunking noise when i braked. i changed all the pads my self, winding back the pistons ect and made sure that they were all well copper greased up and put them all back together. They've been fine for about 3 months and the exact problem has returned. i'm un sure where to start. does anyone have any ideas on where i can look next? matt
  25. Yvonne

Hi, Can anyone help me? I have a Ford Puma 1.7 Zetec year 2000. Left front brake got very hot and loads of brake pad smell and smoke so was advised by friends it was most likely the pistons in caliper sticking. Had the caliper changed but then went to bleed it and no fluid coming from nipple. Took it to a garage for a pressure bleed and they still could not bleed it. They advise master cylinder working and is pumping to all three other brake nipples except for the front left. Has ABS but no ABS warning light coming on. Without engine running we could get the brake pedal to become quite firm but as soon as engine on went all floppy again. Mechanic is at a loss and also the mechanics in the firm I work for are unsure what the problem is. One thing of interest, when caliper originally taken off brake fluid shot out as if under pressure even though the brake pedal was not depressed and car was turned off. I am aware that sequence is diagonal - wondering if mechanic should have bled right back brake first and the the left front even though he was only changing front left caliper and whether this would have caused this problem? Anyone any ideas? Utterly stumped. I can't afford a new car and love my little Puma :(
