Posting in General Chat thread.   11/11/2017

it has been noted that too many Members are posting messages in the General Chat area instead of the correct Forums. Any messages posted in the General Chat area that are not General Chat will be deleted without warning and offenders may recieve warning points if repeated instances are seen from that Member. There are plenty of different Club areas that encompass 99% of Ford related posts, please select and use the correct one. If anyone is not sure of which area to post something then feel free to P/M myself or other Senior Staff for guidance. The Moderating Staff are having to spend far too much time chasing this problem instead of maintaining the other areas of the forum.

  1. Hi all, on the 22nd October, 4 months after passing my driving test I purchased my first car. A 2005 mk2 Ford Focus Zetec Climate 1.6 petrol for 1175 GBP. I live in the north east of Scotland and got it from Edinburgh so 4 months of no driving having to do 170 miles was enough to get me used to the car. Being my first car my knowledge was limited and as time has passed the car had a few problems. Overall by now I have spent around 3000 GBP on the car not including the price of the car to begin with and although it has had problems the car I feel has been brought back to life. As I have owned this car I have learned more and more about cars in general. Always had a high interest in cars but obviously it grows when you get your first car. Anyway enough rambling. This is the car as I bought it > Then to current day > Things that have been done/repaired: (DIY mods) Exterior -tinted tail lights, head lights, indicators, fog lights, reversing lights/rear fogs -xenon white headlights, sidelights, full beam lights, registration lights, reversing light -sunstrip -wind deflectors -refurbed and painted alloys -carbon fiber wrapped plastic trim above fog lights -painted front grill -debadged the 'focus' and 'zetec' from the back -brake drums painted black -rear ford badge 'tinted' black -mudflaps rear and front Interior -new gear gaitor -carbon fiber wrapped central climate control panel, lower geat gaitor panel, steering wheel inserts -blue pvc trim round central climate control panel and air vents -leds in footwell -blue st style mats -aftermarket double din stereo (bluetooth aux etc.) -xenon white interior light, boot light -seatbelt harness covers -circular climate control knobs (Non-DIY mods) Exterior -custom made catback exhaust system Interior - N/A (DIY Repairs) Front brake discs and pads Full service (Garage Repairs) 2x Front wheel bearings 1x rear coil spring 2x rear shock absorbers New timing belt New spark plugs and leads 2x rear shock top mountings front suspension arm bush New clutch New handbrake New water pump New stock exhaust (before the custom catback) Plans for the future: Tint the back windows Paint the lower bumper black (the grey plastic) Paint the spoiler black (instead of grey plastic) Paint the brake calipers (blue or black undecided) Possibly get side skirts/bumpers (unlikely) Fix up the rust spots on the wings and sills Change colour of lights in instrument cluster and central panel Will get better photos/exhaust videos once the weather improves.
  2. Hi all, I hope you're all well. I'm looking into getting a used Focus Mk2 facelift 2009 or 2010 model as a first car. Specifically the 1.6 L TDCi (108 bhp) with DPF. I was also looking at the 2.0 L TDCi model as well, after reading up on many complaints that the 1.6 L is too underpowered at low revs. I've also read about the DPF issues, and the possibility of ECU remapping to fix the lack of power at low revs. I want to avoid the 1.8 L as my understanding is that it's the same engine from the original Focus, and thus noisy. I'll be commuting up to 50 miles a day on work days (this includes some A-roads), and as little as 14 miles a day when not working. I have a few questions regarding the ECU mapping. 1) Would an ECU remap count as a modification on my insurance? 2) How would the remap affect the vehicle tax? I was under the impression that increasing the power would also increase emissions? 3) I've read that I should look out for leaking door and boot rubber seals. Is there anything else to be cautious of, with a 2009 or 2010 facelift model? 4) Lastly, what do you think about the Focus as a first car? I want to keep it for at least 5 years. Many thanks.
  3. Hey guys! Im new on here but this forum looks like a friendly place. So today, I bought my first car (im gonna practice driving in it until im ready for my test).I am the proud owner of a 2001 mk5 fiesta, I love it already. Its got everything I wanted;a good stereo, alloys, ac, power steering, rev counter. its got a couple of rough edges, bits of damage and the boot release wont work, but I guess you guys can help me when I get stuck fixing it! Anyway, let me know what you think! :) Peace LF
  4. Hey guys! Its LF here. Today I bought my first car. On the way back from the previous owner's home, my dads friend was complaining about the fiesta's brakes, he said they were "spongy and terrible" and that he had to think ahead in order to stop in time. He said the brakes are there but just not very good. Is it like this with all MK5 Fiestas? My driving instructor's 63 plate fiesta has a spongy brake pedal but the brakes are really good, so im slightly confused whether its the car itself or if the brakes need replacing / bled. Any ideas? Peace LF
  5. Newbie Here - Need Help

Hi, I bought a Ford Fiesta MK4 a few months ago and I have an issue that I was hoping someone could help with. I have an issue with the lock that I cant figure out. Basically The main key I get with the car was broken and the spare will unlock the boot and start the engine but it wont open either the drivers side or the passenger side door. I am completely usless with cars and I want to start doing things myself to help get the car working fully. Could any one advice on what they think I can do to get this resolved. I dont have much money so the more cost effective the better. Thank you all.
  6. Hello, I'm pretty new here so i thought i would introduce myself. I'm 21 year's old and am yet to have my driving license but have always been a fan of old Fords! I recently purchased my Mk2 Escort GL 1979 on 12th of January 2013, i am in the process of fixing her up and returning her to her formor glory extremely slowly :). When i saw pictures of the car on ebay i was told it was "solid" i knew the engine was not currently in the car and it was a rolling shell with spares. When the car finally got home, i realised there was a considerable amount of things missing from the car which i am currently replacing, the car was also solid to a point. Some places being solid but filler, we chipped away at the filler on the front wings which is a common place for rust on these, it ended up looking somewhat like this when we where finished. After removing the interior, which was in pretty much brilliant condition we went about removing the doors, 3 of the doors where in good condition but the drivers side wasnt looking very repairable! After purchasing a new door last week things where starting to fall more into place and the grueling job of rust treatment and sandpapering could begin! We Sprayed on some cheap £1 primer to protect it from the elements, we managed to finish the bonnet and one of the gutters which where very rusty and dirty! This is unfortunately as far as i have got so far, it is still missing a lot of things. I'm not mechanic but i do have a skilled friend to guide me as a fix up "Wilson" as he has been christened :). Looking forward to getting this classic back on the road! :D
  7. My New Fiesta Metal

Hi guys, i just created my account on here and decided to create this post! I ordered my fiesta metal last week and fell lucky that one had been made ready for the new 62 plates with all of the options that i wanted. This saved me a 4-5 month wait which i was more than happy with! A friend of mine works at my local polar ford and sent me a text yesterday telling me that it had been delivered, he also sent me a picture.(I will upload when i get a chance) So i was just wondering if anybody had any info on the Fiesta Metal, or if anyone has one already how good are they etc and are they worth the extra money from the Zetec S? Thanks.
