Posting in General Chat thread.   11/11/2017

it has been noted that too many Members are posting messages in the General Chat area instead of the correct Forums. Any messages posted in the General Chat area that are not General Chat will be deleted without warning and offenders may recieve warning points if repeated instances are seen from that Member. There are plenty of different Club areas that encompass 99% of Ford related posts, please select and use the correct one. If anyone is not sure of which area to post something then feel free to P/M myself or other Senior Staff for guidance. The Moderating Staff are having to spend far too much time chasing this problem instead of maintaining the other areas of the forum.

  1. Step 1 – obtain a modified ELM327 cable First of all you will need a modified ELM327 cable so that you can begin to activate cruise in your foci. The cable must be equipped with a MS/HS CAN switch and be able to run at a baudrate of 500K. There are a lot on these cables on eBay that claim to run at 500k but don’t (I found out the hard way), I would recommend buying it from a site called James Simpson (link below) as he used quality cables and can guarantee the 500k baudrate. Why is the speed important you may ask? Well, you will need to communicate with the PCM to activate cruise which required a connection speed of 500k, any less and you won’t be able to do it. confirmed 500k modified elm 327 cable Step 2 – obtain ELMconfig software, version 2.10 and 2.17b (links provided) Once you have the two versions downloaded, extract them in separate folders and have them handy so you can access them easily.(two new folders on the desktop is best!) elmconfig 2.10 and 2.17 download Step 3 – installing Cable drivers Before using the cable to connect to your car make sure that you have the required drivers so you don’t run into any unexpected problems. To do this plug the adapter into your laptop ONLY, windows should find the device and install it. Once it’s installed you can start connecting it to your car. Step 4 – setup and connecting to your Foci MAKE SURE YOU HAVE A CHARGED BATTERY!! I would recommend a fully charged battery that can hold its charge while in use for at least 1 Hour! Take your laptop and cable to your Foci, plug the cable into the OBD2 port and your laptop. Now launch ELMconfig 2.17b. Make sure your settings match these shown below: Language: english Driver: FTDI D2xx Device: FT232R.... Baudrate: 500,000 (un-select auto Connection: Focus II / C-MaxI / Kuga I Now the programing begins! Step 1 – Switch in MS-CAN position (left) GEM – Configuration – Page 3 Click “Read from GEM” If “Cruise Control Configuration” it ticked then move to the next step, if not then tick it Click “Write to GEM” Wait for program to write and reboot the GEM Step 2 – Switch in HS-CAN position (right) HEC – Configuration – Page 1 If “Cruise Control Configuration” it ticked then move to the next step, if not then tick it Click “Write to HEC” Wait for program to write and reboot the HEC Step 3a – Switch in HS-CAN position (right) PCM – Configuration Click “Read from PCM” Make sure “Integrated Speed Control” is ticked Click “Save to file” – save it to a clutter free, easily accessible folder (I recommend desktop) Step 3b – Switch in HS-CAN position (right) PCM – Procedures – Page 2 DO NOT CHANGE ANY SETTINGS! Click “Read firmware from PCM to BIN-file” – this takes anything *this bit I struggle to remember but don’t worry it wont ruin your car! Once you click read you might get an option to save the bin file (this might be before or after the reading). If after reading it does not prompt you to save anything then click “Save firmware to BIN-file”, chose the same location where you saved the PCM configuration file. Now close ELMconfig 2.17 and open 2.10 Make sure the settings are the same as used in 2.17 (note the device won’t show its name instead it will just display its com port but this is auto detected) and click open port. Step 3c - Switch in HS-CAN position (right) PCM – Information Click “Read” and wait for it to read all the fields. Step 3d - Switch in HS-CAN position (right) PCM – Procedures – Page 2 Click “Load VID-block from file” Here you want to select the PCM configuration file you saved (the one where you ticked integrated speed control) Click “Load firmware from file” Now select the file you saved from reading the PCM to bin operation (the one that took a long time in comparison) Click “Write current firmware in PCM” This will reprogram the PCM, it will take anything from 1 – 10 minutes. You may get an engine malfunction warning appear while reprogramming, do not worry this is normal and happened to me, it because the PCM module is not able to communicate while its being reprogrammed so it shows as an error. DO NOT UNPLUG or STOP to process or you will mess up your PCM. Once its done it will reboot and inform you its complete, now simply close elmconfig and remove the cable, start your engine and take your foci out for a drive and try cruise – IT will work !!!
  2. Hi, I have a intermittent headlight problem and this has been traced to a faulty pin #44 in the C102 Plug that connects to the GEM (Fuse Box). Does anybody know where I can source a spare connector or connector with tails so I can swap the plug or the pin and wire. The connector is the larger blue one in the picture. Thanks Chris PS Thanks for the pdf wiring diagrams they were really helpful.
  3. First of all, hello, all! I bought a 2004 streetKA yesterday at a bargain price. I was made aware that the central locking only worked with the key in the door. I took the car anyway and decided to get as far as I could before seeking advice...So, here goes! 1 - The key fob communicates with the car. 2 - Pressing the lock button causes the passenger side to lock, then unlock; drivers door remains silent; no lights flash. 3 - the key in the drivers door locks both doors. 4 - the key in passenger door locks the passenger door, then unlocks again. 5 - if I press the lock button on the key fob, whilst simultaneously, manually locking the drivers door causes the lights to flash, as the manual says, to show that the central locking has worked. 6 - if I disconnect the drives door like/trunk wiring and then press lock on the key fob, the lights flash and the passenger door locks. 7 - at no point has the alarm seemed to arm. It has not sounded or given me any indication that it's on. That's as detailed as I have been with diagnostics. Here are my queries: Would this have an affect on the alarm system not arming or am I looking at separate issues? (I've changed fuse 33, still nothing) How do I get the locking motor out of the door and where is it? I'm no electrician but with your guys' help, I might be able to solve the alarm problem! Thanks in advance! Perry
  4. hi guys i am really really hoping someone can help, i have a tdci zetec 2004 without remote central locking. I have done alot of digging on the net for this and have seen the guide someone on here created. I have know (from what i have read) that any gem starting 6st is a no go as its for the face lift and as mine is a 5 door pre facelift i need one starting 4st which is all fine and I have read the post about the A,B,C,D starting of the two letters at the end of the GEM code relating to what it has. Now i have searched ebay and scrap yards for ANY (2st or 4st) gem ending with a CL or any ending in C - they do not seem to exist! I have found ones ending in DF and DA but have read that you need to have deadlocking on your car for them to function correctly so have not bothered with them. Can someone please put me out of my misery do any remote central locking GEMS without deadlocking and alarms even exist!? Or did all pre facelift if with remote locking meant they had deadlocks two? I have even found DA ending models in early LX cars. Please if you know the answer to this please let me know.
  5. Gem Module Help!

i have a fiesta 1.4 zetec 3 door 2003, it doesn't have remote locking. however i heard if i replace the GEM module with one with remote locking, the genuine 3 button key will work (once programmed) However after replacing this do i need some sort of receiver for the key buttons to work? Thanks!!
  6. Hi, my Ford Focus 1.6 Diesel has a fault with the Air Conditioning and I am at a loss now as to what to do. My air conditioning is not working and has never worked since I purchased the car second hand from a private dealer. I have taken it to an Air condition Specialist who told me that it was topped up to the correct level, and had no leaks he could see. He told me it must be an electrical fault which he could not fix, some specialist!. Anyway I took his advice and took the car to an auto electrician who checked out the pressure switches and said they were ok. he then read the fault codes and said there were none he could read. He then left and charged me for what he had done. still the Air Con does not work. :( I manualy cycled the pump shorting the relay pins out and the air con worked fine and came out icy cold? The Relay has voltage at the pins to power the pump and has been replaced and still no luck. Somthing is not switching the relay over to turn the aircon on? The Fuses are all fine and it is a non climate control version. As most people these days, I have little money to spare and this car is draining me of every penny I have :( Could anyone PLEASE HELP me with this problem as short of taking out a Morgage and going to a Ford Dealer, I am at a total loss as to what to do. Thanks for Reading
  7. Gem Help

Hi All. I'm new to this so apologies if this is in the incorrect forum and all that. My question is: I want to upgrade my GEM. Number is 2S6T-15k600 BF. I want to be able to use a remote for the central locking and alarm, is this even possible? What GEM module would I need to buy? Would it be 2S6T-15k600 CF for example. And can I buy a remote key from eBay and program it some how. Now, I only have 1key for the car (W1) I have tried the turn key to position II and back in 5 seconds and no tone so I'm a little lost. It would be a great help if you could steer me in the right direction.
  8. Hi Can someone please confirm if the GEM module on a Ford Fiesta mk6 facelift (2006) controls the PATS? Under diagnosis (link below) on the facelift gems it mentions PATS, could someone tell me whether it is responsible for the coding of the keys? http://ford.workshop-manuals.com/Fiesta_2002.25_11.2001/index.php?id=1112 So someone changing from the A module to a better one (B or above) would he have to recode the keys? My friend is trying to upgrade his fiesta to an ST-like one but has an A gem and wants to upgrade to a C gem to add original alarm (he does not want 3rd party stuff just original ford stuff) would he have to go to the dealer to recode his keys? Thanks
  9. Focus 2005 - Gem Unit Help

Hi everybody, I am new around here. My car is Ford Focus - 2005, petrol, 1.6 HWDA I had some electric errors - like wipers not working, lights always on if contact was on, climatronic wont push air in the car, outside temp not showing, central locking not working, and at the ford service they found the GEM not working properly. I want to know if there is a simple solution to this - such as resetting the GEM (the inside electric module) in front of the passenger chair. Also if there is no possibility to reset it or something similar i would like to know where i could get some decent prices for this? Thank you,
