Posting in General Chat thread.   11/11/2017

it has been noted that too many Members are posting messages in the General Chat area instead of the correct Forums. Any messages posted in the General Chat area that are not General Chat will be deleted without warning and offenders may recieve warning points if repeated instances are seen from that Member. There are plenty of different Club areas that encompass 99% of Ford related posts, please select and use the correct one. If anyone is not sure of which area to post something then feel free to P/M myself or other Senior Staff for guidance. The Moderating Staff are having to spend far too much time chasing this problem instead of maintaining the other areas of the forum.

  1. Steering Wheel

Hi, I was wondering if someone could confirm whether or not a Fiesta mk6 Steering Wheel (like the one in the image attached), could be fitted to a 2004 reg Fusion? From a bit of online researching/'Googling' and shopping I've done, the mk6 Fiesta seems to be very similar in many respects to that Fusion reg. Any advice would be greatly appreciated! If I can change the Steering Wheel, I'd also welcome any suggestions on where I could find one. Many Thanks, Allan.
  2. Has anyone upgraded their steering wheel before how easy is it basically i want extra buttons on mine as mine didnt come with bluetooth i would like the phone buttons, my current one has the cruise control buttons can anyone suggest where i can get ones from ideally ford models
  3. Hi Everyone, This is the first time ive ever particiated in any kind of Forums however i really want to make my Ford Focus 1.6 Zetec Auto 57 plate look as cool as possible without breaking the bank to do it. i have been so inspired by some of the topics ive read and as a kid have asked for advise. So i ask for as many advise and information on turning a standard interior, looking classy. So far i have managed to chnage the trims of the sterring wheel only because the standard silver was worn out and for £9.99 these are perfect. This post in particular was so inspiring http://www.fordownersclub.com/forums/topic/43265-radio-upgrade-on-a-mk2-focus-finally-finished/ thanks to Stoney and http://www.fordownersclub.com/forums/topic/43815-show-us-your-aftermarketupgraded-headunits/ thanks Mike for the reply. Now i want to change the following from the below standards (inspired by the above) Now for the above i need info on parts, Stoney has provided a guide to install a Factory Sony 2008 (i think) system into the car. however i need to find out where i can get the tools from or the carbon effect or unless i wrap it how do i do it? like shown in Mike's Pic http://www.fordownersclub.com/forums/topic/43815-show-us-your-aftermarketupgraded-headunits/ finally the below pic, am little confused as my Cigg lighter doesnt have a flap as shown in Mike's pic http://www.fordownersclub.com/forums/topic/43815-show-us-your-aftermarketupgraded-headunits/. Is this something i can add/install? and can you tell me what they are called plz so guys, you know what the plan is now i need you all to help with guidance and ref to make it possible. O yes before i forget, my rear speakers have busted and i dont have a clue what to replace them with... Ive read many articles however it doesnt say what size are the correct ones and or if any other sizes can be installed without any hassle. So guys your help on the above will be much appreciated and i wait in exitment on your response. As you may have gathered ive never done anything like this before, always a first hey :) :D
  4. Hi Everyone, I really hope someone can help me regain my sanity! ~3 months ago, I took my 2L 2006 Focus to a garage with a violent (almost uncontrollable) shudder, they said it was fine after a nice investigation bill! Took it somewhere else 2 weeks later to find I had a seizing caliper (F O/S) which they replaced. A mild shake persisted after at 60-75 mph. This garage said deal with it, probably the dual mass flywheel 😒 . I then took it to garage no. 3 and the brake disc was bent (turned out garage 2 didn't replace it when they found the seized caliper). The shake is now constant between 60-75, visible when you take the hands off the wheel and no shudder through the seat or gear stick. Had new tyres on front (Bridgestone's) just before seizing caliper and tracking was WAY out so this was corrected. No play in suspension (new F O/S swing arm) and no play in hub. Drive shaft has no sign of rust or play. Tracking rods checked. This is the second garage who's told me to live with it. Not happy! Could someone give me their thoughts as I cannot afford to continuously replace parts until something works! Many thanks, Emma
  5. steering wheel change

  6. Question Re: Cruise Control

Hello FOC'ers, New to the forum as I've just picked up a 2011 Fiesta 1.6 TDCi Titanium. I'm really liking it so far, but I have a problem with the cruise control. I see it's a regular thing on these boards but I can't find an answer to what I'm about to ask... Try as I might, I can't seem to get CC to go into standby mode. If I mashed wildly at the buttons, it comes on maybe 1 in 50 attempts. Can someone give me detailed instructions on how to get the steering wheel-mounted CC buttons out of the steering wheel? Since my problem is intermittent, I suspect a good blast of contact cleaner might help, but I can't find a decent way of getting the contact cleaner where I suspect it needs to go. ANY tips would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, J
  7. What the material on the steering wheel of a Fusion 2 ( 2003-2009) ? I guess it is a bi-cast coating ( Leather sawdust coated ) , anyway I digress: the coating has peeled right off to reveal an unknown material underneath -please see picture The first logical thought was to purchase and sow on a wheel skin , which potentially is the way forward , however the bespoke wheel skins ( I have found ) do not cover the inner three wheel spokes they just cover the outer rim of the wheel My thoughts were to rub it down and buy some kind of textured spray coating or dye to cover the wheel spokes , then stitch on a wheel skin Has anyone had any experience with coating wheels , including the spokes? It seems there are no leather coats that include the spokes
  8. I've had the car about 4 years & not really done much to it other than an EGR blank & servicing (until this week). This week I decided it was time for a change, below is a list of what I've got done so far in the last 3 days: Wrapped as much of the front interior as I can (easier said than done for some parts) so that's: The 4 satin steel steering wheel trims Single DIN head unit fascia Upper centre console Gearshift fascia Handbrake fascia Foot well lower trims Lower centre console including the rear "cubby hole" Fitted a single DIN Sony head unit with Bluetooth Fitted the external mic & route the cable out of sight Fitted a new chrome & leather gearshift gaiter & surround Replaced the tatty black gear knob with a nice silver one from a Mondeo Replaced all the accessible interior lighting with "white" LEDs Replaced the number plate bulbs with "white" LEDs (integrated resistors because the previous set flickered like a B**CH) Replaced the brake & reverse lights with CREEs (hint the reverse lights now illuminate the kerbside like sidelights which makes parallel parking/reversing at night without clouting the alloys a whole lot easier) Replaced the main beam & side lights with nice "white" ones (side lights are LED) Replaced the single light bulb in the glovebox Replaced the single light blun in the boot with 3 "white" LED pads (I had to wire resistors to ensure there was enough load to stop them flickering, so they're not a bright as they were originally but at least now they won't give someone a epileptic fit!) Unfortunately I didn't think to take "before" photos although I'm sure everyone here knows what the inside of a MK2 looks like & how crap the standard "yellow" interior lighting is along with "real" wood effect plastic trim!! To get a bit of practice with the wrapping I bought some unbranded (cheap) carbon wrap on ebay & had 4 goes at the centre console before I was happy that I'd got half an idea what I was doing. From Friday night onwards I've pretty much worked non stop on the car, I removed the entire centre console (head unit console, surround, gearshift fascia, handbrake fascia, footwell trims & the main centre console with the cup holders etc) & got to work wrapping. The final wrap material I used is 3M 1080 which is what the wrapping specialists use & there is a MAJOR difference in quality. If you're thinking of going for the carbon fiber vinyl look, once you've had a good practice with the cheap stuff, don't be cheap get the good stuff, it's even got the tactile finish to it i.e. it's not a flat print & is much more resistant to being overstretched. Unfortunately it seems to be pretty much impossible to wrap the bottom centre console itself due it's shape (6 different wrapping specialist confirmed that they can't wrap it). I'm really happy with the end result although I am thoroughly sick of the sight of carbon fiber wrap, lol! I've still got the 3 screw covers for the foot well trims to wrap but that should only take 15 minutes or so (but not today). I replaced the rather poor Ford Transit style head unit with a single DIN Sony with Bluetooth & fitted the external mic with the cable routed out of sight but once again forgot to take pictures as I went along (removing the front A pillar trim was a bit of pain but I managed it without breaking any clips so I'm happy with that) I've also replaced the brake & reversing exterior bulbs with CREE LED's & all the user accessible interior bulbs including the glove box light (i.e. not the SMDs in the door controls etc) with "white" LED's (I'll take pictures tonight of the lights - & yes I know the car needs a good wipe down/vacuuming) I'm really happy with things so far. I've also removed my EGR blank & booked in for a Terraclean on Thursday so i'll be sure to post back with the results. My plans between now & 3 months time when I get my annual bonus are: Upgraded climate control dials (like Lenny's) 2 new front wings (rust bubble central) New mud flaps all round Strip back both sills to the metal Colour code the fog light front bumper strips Respray for the bonnet, wings, sills (all the way up to door seals) & all 4 doors so hopefully I should have nice "shinee" front end. On an unrelated note I can thoroughly recommend Nokian Weatherproof tyres for snow & wet weather driving (Auto Express weren't wrong when they rated them 100% for snow/rain). I had 2 fitted on the front in January for the MOT & I've given them a thorough thrashing in the recent weather, despite the big heavy lump up front (the engine not me) the front end has a lovely positive turn in, even in heavy rain. Not something I could say about the Chinese "ditchfinders" I had on previously. Feel free to comment, any suggestions etc are very welcome, if I can give anyone else any help I'll be more than happy to.
  9. My recently acquired Focus (2002 1.6 Ghia) came back from the garage the other day with a really tacky steering wheel. I just assumed it was some grease/grime, tried cleaning it to no avail (it was pretty dirty it turns out). Tried degreaser, still sticky. Tried WD40 (as it's good at removing sticky residues), still sticky. I've scrubbed it to buggery! So two questions: Any tips on removing the stickiness? And, to guide me on what to use, is the steering wheel leather on this model or just leather effect plastic? (some google search suggestions were that, if leather, a leather cleaner/conditioner might do the job)
  10. Hi, I would like to know what is required to remove the airbag from the steering wheel on the mk2 ka? I need to fit a new indicator stalk. Help would be much appreciated.
  11. Hello, I have recently bought a Ford Fiesta 62 plate. I have started to hear clicking noises when turning right which is louder the sharper the turn is. Does anyone know what this could be? Sometimes whilst driving there is a buzzing noise coming from inside the steering wheel behind the volume controls. Has anyone ever experienced this problem and had managed to get it fixed? Thanks, Elisha
  12. Hi all! So I've recently bought myself a 57 reg ford focus 1.6 (100ps) style. I'm happy with the car apart from this steering wheel vibration issue. The wheel seems to start vibrating from speeds of 30mph onwards, definitely worse at 60~75mph. Haven't gone any faster. At lower speeds the vibration is noticeably worse whilst lightly braking. Had all four wheels balanced & the tracking done which I believe remedied the issue ever so slightly but now I'm out of ideas...I think the car was stationary for a period of like 2 months whilst at the car dealer and I've read tyres can develop "flat spots" but the tyres visually look normal. I'd appreciate any input ☺
  13. Hello!!!!! Been Ages Away!!!

Hey everyone, Not been on here for a while, had a lot going on with a recent operation that went a bit wrong and subsequent ill health. As a result things have changed some what life style wise and one of them was my lovely Candy Blue Zetec S TDCi is now up for sale..... :( :( Spec'd up like mad and probably the only Zetec S to have a Sony DAB Satellite Navigation and Sony 8 speaker upgrade system from the factory, in it. Plus I have a brand new Steering wheel I bought from the dealers with the Cruise Controls on it. Was ordered from the Titanium X spec list so the wheel is thicker and more plush leather than even the Zetec S steering wheel, plus its got the ice blue illumination controls and the chrome effect (not silver) centre piece on it. Anyway, go to the Cars.. and Parts.. For Sale sections to find out more. Hoping to be at the Ford Fair 2014 in August, and depending what I go for next??????????????????????????????????? Anyhow, just wanted to politely put the word out on above, and come say hello..
  14. Hi all, I'm afraid that I'm looking for your knowledge on a problem with my Cmax. Car is 1.8 tdci, 57 plate 51K on clock. On acceleration, particularly when heavily loaded and in higher gears, there is significant vibration thr' the steering wheel and seats. Also vibrates to a lesse extent when travelling 50-70(ish). Clutch seems fine and no slipping etc. Wheels have been tracked and balanced (3 times for balancing!), no noise from driveshaft when turning and no (unusual) noise when starting or turning off (hopefully not dmf). It also vibrates badly when braking quite hard from high speeds. Vibrations are worse when braking if wheels aren't straight (particularly steering to the left) and also if foot is on the clutch. I'm at my wits end with the problem, local dealer very good and helpful but no suggestions! They've checked for play on shafts, brake pads/discs and also checked tyres for deformity, balance etc. I sold my last cmax when it developed a similar problem but I don't want to sell again, surely I can't have had the only 2 with this problem!!!!! I'm not a 'hard' driver (get 55+ mpg on rural roads)! Thanks for any suggestions, if you need any clarification please let me know. Thanks again Will
  15. Hi All, I am in need of some advice. I have a fiesta mk7 zetec s 58 plate and have only had it a few weeks. Since yesterday, the steering wheel controls are in a mind of their own. If I press the volume down it will turn it up, if i press volume up it will skip track or scan the radio, its completely messed up. Anyone have any ideas how to get this sorted? or what would have caused it? Thanks alot

  18. Hi all! This morning I replaced a broken 20AMP fuse as my 12v power socket was not working. The socket is now working again although ive noticed the audio buttons on my steering wheel are not. Can this be due to a broken fuse? If so which one and what AMP? Many thanks!
  19. Hello All, Just found this great site and joined up today. I have a question regarding a Steering wheel upgrade an would appreciate some advice.
