Posting in General Chat thread.   11/11/2017

it has been noted that too many Members are posting messages in the General Chat area instead of the correct Forums. Any messages posted in the General Chat area that are not General Chat will be deleted without warning and offenders may recieve warning points if repeated instances are seen from that Member. There are plenty of different Club areas that encompass 99% of Ford related posts, please select and use the correct one. If anyone is not sure of which area to post something then feel free to P/M myself or other Senior Staff for guidance. The Moderating Staff are having to spend far too much time chasing this problem instead of maintaining the other areas of the forum.

  1. Hiding wires!

Hi all, just looking for some advice, I'm fitting a new stereo next weekend, and I think I'm going to need to run some wires from the back of the unit to the A pillar (driver or passenger side), what's the easiest way to feed the wires behind the dash? I've got a 2011 Focus mk3, thanks in advance x
  2. Dash gone crazy

Need help with this, this is an intermittent fault comes and goes. Clocks go blank after ignition. Lots of opinions from mechanics. Any ideas maybe a simple fix Recently fixed faulty alternator and changed tensioner and drive belt. Also need to get a turbo actuator, I think it's a G-149 actuator. Removed turbo and gave it a good clean. Any Gurus help please.
  3. Hi, I got an '07 Ford Fiesta Zetec with the 6000CD. I have bought an pioneer SPH-DA120 head unit along with fascia, adapters, etc. But how can I pass my iPhone USB cable from the rear of the head unit around to the front. Also the headunit comes with a wired Mic which I would like to have on the drivers side of the dash. And a GPS antenna needs to go on the top of the dashboard to work 'properly'. Basically, how can I get all these wires out from behind the headunit? Thanks
  4. Hi guys, so two days ago i bought my first car! its a 06 fiesta zetec s facelift and is awesome, but heres the problem: The previous owner has done a tonne of really nice mods to the car but one of these was painting a bunch of the interior parts red. needles to say the paint looks terrible haha. I've taken off the salvageable pieces to sand back and respray them however there are these two plastic vents that sit behind the normal ringed air vents on the far left and right of the dash. these are painted so badly it is an eyesore to say the least lol! so my question is what are they called and where can i get replacements, because I've tried searching for all kinds of dash vent variants and can seem to find replacement ones anywhere? any help would be much appreciated. thanks :)
  5. Hi, I am trying to hardwire my dash cam into my car and have a bit of a problem and would like some tips or advice. The problem is the earthing point appears to be right within the dash behind the fuse box on the firewall. The thing is I need to access this to connect the earth wire of the camera. However once I get my hands in the dash and close to this point it is impossible to see what I am doing. I wonder if anyone knows what sort of tools to use to ease the job of connecting the cameras ground wire without getting my hands in the way.
  6. Hi all I've got a 56 plate Fiesta Zetec and there seems to be a problem with the Dash Computer, the one in between the Rev Count and Speedometer that displays the mileage and outside temp along with average fuel consumption etc.. Basically I was driving home this evening and noticed the display has almost faded completely! Its still lit up green (when the light are on) but the actual numbers and display you can barely see at all. Anyone have any idea what the problem could be? Thanks in advance!
  7. Dash Cam For Tinted Windows

Hey folks, I have 2 questions that I feel with the amount of dashcams running about someone should be able to help me with! I'm looking for a dash cam that is good enough to pick out a good level of detail through tinted glass, it's for the back of my car and I have factory tint's so nothing too dark but I feel may be dark enough to cause an issue or two. So question 1 is does anyone have any recommendations? I'm not wanting to go too pricey as it's a rear cam and not as important as the front (of which I have a Nextbase 402G which is a brilliant dashcam to say the least!), but then I do want a decent picture so has to be of a minimum 720p obviously; though it doesn't need features such as GPS and the like as the 402G has me covered there. Second question is are there any drawbacks from having 2 dash cams powered through the same power outlet? I run my front cam to the rear outlet as seeing I didn't notice that I had one for 3 years in my previous Fiesta (and probably the 18 months of the one previous to that) then I feel it may as well; however I'd run the second from the same spot too most likely. Also a sneaky third question - anyone got any ideas for blanking off the screen temporarily? I want one with a screen for ease of use, but I don't want a tiny view of what's going on behind me being a pain in low light :P Thanks guys!
  8. First this, I've got a Ford Focus 1.6 Setec S What are these wires for? When trying to find a AUX input on my car I came across these wires. They fit to the back of the button board below the Clumate control/ above the 12V plug. I've tried looking for pictures of other models and the only buttons I can find are, passenger air bag, or central locking? Can someone confirm what they are, and if it would be possible to buy a button and then have the car feature. Thank you:)
  9. Hi all, I purchased a 59 plate ka mk2 at the weekend and noticed tonight that the temp and fan controls don't light up on the centre console. I'm assuming that this isn't normal? Do I need to replace the heater control unit? Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks
  10. Hi all, Apologies... yet another "battery warning light / voltage Issue" I see this is a common problem with various solutions. Just after an opinion or two on whether I will be ok driving around until the weekend and doing a longer drive on Saturday or should I look to fix the issue before then? I am part exing the car on Saturday but I have to make it to Harpenden from High Wycombe to do so! Some details of the issue: About 6 weeks ago the battery light came on on my Focus (1.6 LX mk1 2005) and stayed onA couple of days later the car would not start after workI got a push start and got about half way home (approx 2.5 miles into a 5 mile journey - just moved house and journey is about half of what it was)Dash went blank - no speedo, lights, warning lightsRAC called, suspected alternator, fitted a temporary battery which got me to my local garageThey replaced the alternator, all good and oil was topped up as it was lowA couple of weeks later the light came backThe garage fitted another alternator (the first was faulty), all goodAnother week and the light came on then disappearedBack to garage, they could find no faultAnother week on again and after a longish drive too (High Wycombe to Watford and back) light comes on and disappearsFind dash trick to check voltage - 11.2V engine off and 13.5V engine on. Booked into an electircal specialist for fault finding.Have kept it in diagnostic mode showing voltage while driving and it fluctuates between 13.5V and 13.7V occasionally reaching and 11.2 - 11.4 when off (generally 11.2 ish). I have been doing a longer circuit so that my drive to/from work is a little longer (25-30 minutes instead of 10) in a bid to get some form of charge into the battery!Have been looking at cars any way so on Saturday I drove from High Wycombe to Slough, (light came on and went off at the services in slough), then to Harpenden and back home (no light). Placed a deposit on a car in Harpenden. The light has again come on on arrival at work this morning and then gone - but I've just gone out to do the dash test and it is on again...So my question is am I safe to keep driving it and to do a motorway journey on Saturday or should I take it to the garage round the corner this evening and ask them to revisit the issue?
  11. Hi, I purchased my Focus Mk2 last month and it has been running fine with no problems. I noticed last week that my fan carried on running when I turned the engine off due to it overheating - there wasn't any coolant left so i topped it up and all was well for another couple of days... Again it ran out of coolant yesterday and i found a leak in the joins of the pipes that supply the heater matrix behind the panel in the driver foot well. Having replaced the o rings and resealing it seemed to stop the leak in this please BUT there is now a MAJOR leak in the heater matrix which is draining the whole coolant around in around 1 minute. In short i can get hold of a new heater matrix relatively easy, but how hard are they to fit? anyone have step by step? I have heard you have to take the whole dash out and garages can quote 400+ for this to be done - which funds will not allow! I have also seen that you can cut the plastic cover for the heater matrix and get it out this way is this true? Help with this ASAP is required as i am without a car until this is sorted!!!!
  12. Greetings oh wise ones. Anyone know the shade of silver/ grey of the zetec mk1 radio surround / dash? I have to touch up some areas and want the best match possible without replacing the whole thing. Cheers for any replies. P.S. apologies if this topic is answered elsewhere.
  13. Dash Lights

Hello,My first ask on this forum,I have just noticed one of the lights on the rev counter, 06 2ltr dci estate, has failed,Is it dash board off,If so is it a ball-ache job i have reasonable amount of skill(Became an expert in removing a volvo 480 dash) . Any help or guidance appreciated. Cheers Owen
  14. For some reason my car randomly starting acting up. Firstly some of the lights on the dash have stopped working, the ones that don't work are: Indicators, Full beams and the handbrake light will always remain on. When I start my car up all the lights come on normally but stop working after that. Secondly my Central locking is no longer working, even from the inside. I was reading up that it could be an instrument cluster fault, but half of my dash works including all my dials and I didn't read anything about the central locking failing at the same time. Could anyone provide some insight to my car? (Focus 05 MK2 LX 1.6 petrol)
  15. Hi, This morning I noticed that my engine management light lit up on my dash, there's no noise issues, no misfiring... Car seems to be working like normal to be honest! I ran the ford self diagnostic test and it told me that there were no DTCs, now as I understand it the DTCs are the fault codes are they not? So I was just wondering if anyone knew why the engine management light would come on if there aren't any faults? My local garage want to charge me 60 quid to run a diagnostic, which I don't fancy doing if there isn't anything wrong with my car... I considered purchasing a diagnostic tool to reset the light but not sure if this would be wise? I have a ford fiesta mk6, 58 plate. Any suggestions/input would be much appreciated. Martin
  16. Ford Focus 2.0 TDCI, 56 plate. I spent most of yesterday taking off the engine undertray, taking out the glovebox and fusebox, removing the radio and surround only to find that the annoying vibration I've been getting for the last few months was from the heater pipes vibrating against something, I don't know what, but what I do know is that if I put some foam between the pipes, the vibration stops. I found this photo on the web (originally from this site) If you look at the 2 pipes to the LEFT of the red circle (they are almost horizontal), these are the offending pipes. I couldn't find a mention of anyone else finding this particular vibration spot, so I thought I'd post it. Lee. P.S. If you find a solution to a question you have asked, please report back and help others :)

  19. Mk7 1.25 Zetec - Oil Pressure

Hi, Just stopped at a said of lights and was presented with "engine oil pressure low, stop safely". Any idea what could cause this? Turned the engine on and off and it went away. I have seen it a few times in the last year but the oil has always been fine and it has recently been serviced. I am sure it's nothing to worry about but would be good to know why it shows.. Thanks!
  20. Hi everyone, I am hoping someone can help... I normally have the radio info displayed on my dash, so it obviously displays track information, station names etc. I had a CD in the tonight which was on Track 1 when I pressed eject. The radio came on, but my dash still said 'Track 1'. I turned the radio off and it stayed displaying 'Track 1'. I turned the car off and back on again and now it doesn't show anything on the dash screen in regards to the radio. I have turned the setting off and on again for displaying radio information, so I am a little confused at the problem. Any help would be great! Thanks, Tom
  21. Dial Swap

I got a escort gti and my dials have gone. I can easily replace with original but was wondering how easy it would be to fit different dials from a different brand I.e Lexus 200.
  22. Hi All I have a MK2 2006 1.8 tdci Focus. Every now and then the dash brings up EML or the big red light with cog or the seat belt light. There is no loss in power or judders and turning the ignition off and on turns the lights off. There is no codes stored in ecu. Does this sound like a wiring issue? also I have heard about ecu updates?? thanks in advance
  23. Hello all. First, I'll start by introducing myself. My name is Alex, I'm 19 and living in Essex. I am the owner of a 2001 Ford Mondeo 1.8LX. I have a question which is regarding my instrument cluster. The bulb on the left that displays the temperature appears to have blown. For a while I've been thinking about changing the cluster and I was wondering if a cluster from an ST220 (White dials and 170mph speedo) would fit in this car as I have always preferred the look and what better time to do so when the bulb has blown aye? It will really irritate me having to look at that hahaha! Will the new speedo simply "plug and play"? Will my odometer reading be retained or will I have to programme the new one? Many Thanks, Alex.
  24. Im hoping someone can help me out. I recently acquired a dash pod gauge, and following Lennys guide, want to fit it to my TDCi. I want to keep the original gauges and drive them of the canbus. My problem is that there are alot more pins than I expected. I think I have worked out that all the pins I want are on the same row, and I think the order is as follows 1. Can H (?) 2. Can L (?) 3. Think Power + (maybe dial illumination) 4. GND 5. Power + (IGN) 6. Power + (Perm) On the other row appear to be at least two pairs of DATA lines and another GND. I have applied power to 4 and 6, then jumped 6 and 5. This cause the gauge to zero, pulling about 90ma dropping to about 35ma a few seconds later. I know the middle boost gauge only reads to 1.2 bar, and on a diesel you will need 2 bar for full boost, but the gauge actual has a sweep of about 345 deg (almost one complete cirlce. So if I just offset the needle to be horizontal pointing to the right, then two bar would be approximately horizontal to the left. Anyhow, getting into irrelevant detail until I can work out for definate which pins to use. So on with my plea for help: Can any body offer a wiring diagram, take a picture of the actual plug (fitted in RS and ST I believe), or attempt to decode the colours and location of the attached picture (You wouldn't believe how long it took me to find this!)
  25. hi all im new to this got a 2004 diesel fusion battery charging at 18v and lots of lights come on and off on dash including abs airbag engine check door open and speedo fuel gauge and rev counter stop working
