Posting in General Chat thread.   11/11/2017

it has been noted that too many Members are posting messages in the General Chat area instead of the correct Forums. Any messages posted in the General Chat area that are not General Chat will be deleted without warning and offenders may recieve warning points if repeated instances are seen from that Member. There are plenty of different Club areas that encompass 99% of Ford related posts, please select and use the correct one. If anyone is not sure of which area to post something then feel free to P/M myself or other Senior Staff for guidance. The Moderating Staff are having to spend far too much time chasing this problem instead of maintaining the other areas of the forum.

  1. Emissions very high

Took my just turned 3, mk7 1.5 tdci fiesta car in for first MOT 38k regularly serviced. I will sail through with new tyres. Wrong. The fitter said 'Emissions failure' I was flabbergasted. He suggested a bottle of additive then go for a ride using lower gears to warm things up and get the additive working. I called again a few hours later having done as he said and reved it up in lower gears as asked. (one v due to looking like a w) Again it failed, he tested again and it just about passed. I thought he was perhaps a bit tetchy but when he reved up the car there was black smoke. So he was just doing his job. So I just about got a MOT. Morrison's diesel, not a high revving chap but I do long runs always on 60 or a bit more. 70 ish on motorways. Regular oil and filter changes 12k instead of 20k. He suggested changing to BP and as I had just filled up, waiting until empty ish, then BP with Redex additive. Any further comments welcome.
  2. Hi all, I bought this Ford Focus about a year ago and it's failed it's first MOT under my ownership. The engine management light has been on for a few months (which I ignored, oops), and it said something about the catalytic converter, I can double check the full error later. Anyway it's failed the MOT and here are the results... Fast Idle Test Engine Speed = 2565 CO = 0.36 (FAIL - MAX OF 0.20) HC = 115 Lambda = 1.012 Second Fast Idle Test Engine Speed = 2710 CO = 0.33 (FAIL - MAX OF 0.20) HC = 111 Lambda = 1.011 Natural Idle Test Engine Speed = 795 CO = 0.30 (PASS - JUST ON MAX LIMIT OF 0.30) It's been suggested that I need a new catayltic converter fitted (it's a complicated twin one that takes hours to fit). So all in all this is a very expensive option, is there a possiblity it might not even fix the emissions problem? Is there any common issues with this model of car that have a cheaper solution to the problem? What about these Cat Cleaner additives I can put in the petrol tank? By the way I don't have any issues with the performance of the car, it drives really well. Thanks for any help here I appreciate it. Cheers.
  3. EGR blanking

I fitted a EGR blanking plate on my fiesta 2008 1.6 tdci a few years ago and it goes well. Been all over southern ireland never missed a beat. (beer's a bit pricey there but A great place.) I also have a 2014 1.5 tdci fiesta. Hmm. This is running a bit dirty on emissions. Is there any way to cut out the EGR using a Plate or bypass the whole crap idea. Comments welcome.
  4. Hi everyone, I have an X reg Ford Focus Petrol, it was bought in a pinch and has been used for a year, in that time I have only topped up but not changed oil, filters, plugs Today it has failed on emissions in a big way, as you can see below... I am wondering, will DIY stuff be enough to get these figures below the set limits or do you think there is somethine more at play?? I was considering changing Spark Plugs, Oil and Air Filter, but don't know if that's enough... would appreciate any input. fast idle Engine speed = Manual Check 2450 co 1.28 vs 0.20 hc 369 vs 200 lambda 1.101 vs 1.030 2nd fast idle Engine speed = Manual Check 2450 Co 1.21 Hc 440 Lambda 1.091 idle at 625 co 1.33 vs 0.30 What do you guys think...any tricks to get it through one last time or would I just be throwing good money after bad? thanks for your time
  5. Hi My fiesta failed it's mot on emissions (see attached photo) is this the end of my engine and I need a new one or is there any quick wins I could do to improve the emissions to get it through the MOT ... Advise from the garage was a new engine pointless repairing it . Yourself help would be greatful Regards Simon
  6. For no other reason than this may be of interest to some: http://www.theguardian.com/environment/2016/apr/17/diesel-particulate-filter-removal-air-pollution-department-for-transport I suppose that there is going to be more of this kind of thing after the VW debacle. I wonder when 'the media' will get as wise to EGR blanking and NOx pollution? Common advice for Mondeo TDCi Euro3 owners (once I was, and did it...) over on Talkford, and indeed here for those with oil burners.
  7. Hi guys Had a new lambda fitted 2 days ago and had my mot today. Failed for "Exhaust emissions carbon monoxide content after 2nd fast idle excessive" they did the test twice the results are below. Test one 1st fast idle test Limits Actual CO % VOL 0.20 0.49 2nd fast idle test Limits Actual CO % VOL 0.20 0.65 Test Two Limits Actual CO % VOL 0.20 0.77 2nd fast idle test Limits Actual CO % VOL 0.20 0.43 they put an additive in my fuel which said may have helped, but it didnt luckily they didnt charge me for it. Also failed on RBT service brake efficiency: 48%, they said I was only 2 off. They said a clean, adjust and lubricate of my rear brakes would sort it. Does anyone have any advice?
