Posting in General Chat thread.   11/11/2017

it has been noted that too many Members are posting messages in the General Chat area instead of the correct Forums. Any messages posted in the General Chat area that are not General Chat will be deleted without warning and offenders may recieve warning points if repeated instances are seen from that Member. There are plenty of different Club areas that encompass 99% of Ford related posts, please select and use the correct one. If anyone is not sure of which area to post something then feel free to P/M myself or other Senior Staff for guidance. The Moderating Staff are having to spend far too much time chasing this problem instead of maintaining the other areas of the forum.

  1. C max

Hi all, I have a Cmax 2010 1.8 diesel. I've been having a when accelerating harder than usual the car seems to miss a beat and go into limp home mode and I can't understand why? I've change the injectors and this hasn't solved the problem. Any ideas
  2. HI All I tried to look on the forum for the signs and symptoms of the illness of my Ford but no real joy. My mondeo mk4 2008 2.0tdci has some starting problems, there are days where it start without problems at all, like a new car, but from time to time after few starts there is a dodgy one, it cranks up longer than usual and literally when the engine starts it cough's once. It seems to be on the right hand side of the engine bay ( when looking from the drivers position ) This is going on for couple of weeks now and started after stalling the engine in reverse. After stalling it didn't want to start at all, turning the key and not even single crank. Last Saturday was same situation, the car was driving lovely all day long, and suddenly it decided it will not start. I have checked all fuses in engine compartment ( visually and with the meter) disconnected the battery few times and nothing, so was just about to call RAC and tried one more time, hey ho, it started cranking and after 5 seconds of cranking it, the motor decided to start. Reading up on the forum stating it's the starter motor, but if it was going bad i presume it wouldn't have good days. Also there is EML light showing up on the dash board when ignition on but goes off when engine runs, again, it's not ever time, just some times it decides,, hey i will shine. I tried to hook up the odbII scanner as i have one and there is no problems with it at all. The idle is 799-802 rpm - really steady and i am getting bit bored with the issue now. I hope somebody here will be kind enough to assist me with the problem and hopefully can sort it without going to the garage.
  3. Hello, I've had a problem with my car (st170) for a while. The engine management light has been on. The only real issue when I drive it, is there's a slight stutter when I accelerate beyond 4K rpm.... I took it to the mechanics and they couldn't pin point exactly what was wrong with it, although it has to do with the throttle flap not opening properly, they had a look at the wire that operates it and there wasn't a problem there. Then they told me they spoke to someone who specialises in what they had found out and said I need a new "throttle flap actuator motor" They've told me it's an expensive part. So I've been trying to find the part online, either reconditioned or from a breakers, but I'm finding it difficult to even get a picture of what I'm looking for.... has anyone had a similar problem? or does anyone know what I'm looking for and how to get it?
  4. Ford s max

Hi the EML in my car came on the other day my husband stopped the car , turned it off and on again it went off . Now it's come on and stayed on .. I had planned to run it up and down motorway to blast the filter today but not sure what to do now ,as he says it's lost some power but I don't know how much till I drive it . Should I still do it or not ... and if I did will the light go off ?
  5. Ford Fiesta Problem!!! Help

Hellooo, I have a 1.4 diesel ford fiesta, which is 10 years old now. Recently it's started to cut off randomly, it feels as if the engine goes off for a couple seconds and then starts again. The battery light and the engine light comes on when doing this, but only for a second. It tends to do this when in 5th gear at around 50mph-60mph, which is around 2000rpm. The car has been in a garage all week and no fault comes up! Also, every now and again the 'transmission light'? (i think) comes on, (looks like a cog with a ! in) and goes into limp mode, where is makes it impossible to go over 5mph and very jumpy. Once i switch the car off and on again it goes fine. Has anyone had this problem before? Thanks in advance!
  6. Buying

Hi im looking at buying a ford focus 1.8 zetec , petrol , when i test drove it , the engine management light came on , i aske dthe owner and he said if i pull over stop and then restart the car the light will go out .... his explantion was the battery is faulty and just needs replacing ... does this sound right or shall i leave the car alone ?
  7. My friend has got a Ford KA, 2003, which the engine management light is on and the car is juddering as soon as the engine is turned on. They have changed the spark plugs and coil pack as per recommendation from a garage however it still has the problem. The HT leads haven't been changed however they are still sparking. Has anyone else had this problem? Thanks Jayne
  8. Worth Keeping?

Hi, I have a 2001 (51) Fiesta 1.25 zetec 5 dr. I am on a tight budget and wondering whether I should be planning to replace the car by the time the MOT is due again in January or whether it is worth keeping, in which case I should start by putting things right now to be cost effective. The check engine light has been on since 2 days after I bought it, no doubt the dealer reset the ECU to give him just enough time to sell it. Performance is fine, I am having no backfires, stalling, problems starting, issues accelerating or maintaining speed. I would say the engine is running well for what it is. I have accurately measured fuel mileage and is consistently around 38. I drive 1000 miles per month and is probably 25% urban, 25% urban dual carriageway and 50% motorway. I'm quite happy with that. During MOT they left a receipt with a few OBD codes in there for me. I have: PO481: Cooling fan 2 control circuit malfunction. PO645: A/C Clutch Relay Control Circuit PO420: Catalyst system efficiency below threshold (Bank 1) I'm guessing the latter is the one in question. Replacing the catalyst is going to be a deal stopper for me. The car runs and handles a treat, although there will be some other work to do. When I was having the front discs and pads replaced the guy noticed the light saying he had the same car and it was just the lambda sensor. It could well be, but it could well be other things as well. What I would like is to keep the car well maintained as I do anyway and keep it going for another couple of years and then hand it to my partner when I can upgrade. Keeping it on the road and well maintained will be expensive anyway without forking out for major work. There was 70k miles on it with a single owner and full service history when I bought it, there is now about 74500 miles on it and it has never given a sign of failure. I am a little concerned about rust which I understand these things are well-known for. Anyway, I realise there is going to be risk involved due to information not being 100% accurate but would anyone suggest it is worth replacing a lambda sensor and keeping maintained or should would I be better off just leaving it be and flogging it when the test is due? I'd like to upgrade to one of those brand new mondeos they look amazing but I'll be happy keeping my old fiesta going for now! Thanks for any advice Ben Edit It is probably worth noting that i've fitted a clean air filter and it passed its MOT while light was on so guessing emissions are OK. I have got to be honest I've been looking up this problem for a while and I'm expecting it is the cat and will probably just have to get rid.
