Posting in General Chat thread.   11/11/2017

it has been noted that too many Members are posting messages in the General Chat area instead of the correct Forums. Any messages posted in the General Chat area that are not General Chat will be deleted without warning and offenders may recieve warning points if repeated instances are seen from that Member. There are plenty of different Club areas that encompass 99% of Ford related posts, please select and use the correct one. If anyone is not sure of which area to post something then feel free to P/M myself or other Senior Staff for guidance. The Moderating Staff are having to spend far too much time chasing this problem instead of maintaining the other areas of the forum.

  1. Hi all, I was just wondering if someone could please help me out. I want to look at this car at the weekend but I am worried that it may be too good to be true as it seems very low priced for what it is! Could someone advise me if it's legit or I should be looking elsewhere. Thank you! http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/201707257710345
  2. Hi everyone, I've searched the forums but I haven't been able to find a topic that is similar to my situation. I'll start off with my car make; Ford Focus MK3, 2013 1.6tdi. ~31,000 miles. I've been having intermittent errors with the car. I've been having the message "Engine malfunction, service now" appear on my dashboard, but then clears after a few seconds. This only happens whilst I'm driving, and has never appeared upon first starting up the car. It usually appears when doing around 60-80mph. Every time this happens, the engine then has limited power; I can put the throttle right the way down but the car won't accelerate, and will stay at around 50mph - I assume this is limp home mode however there is nothing on the dash to indicate that this is so, even though the "engine malfunction" message has cleared. If I turn the ignition off and back on again the engine will be back to normal and I will have acceleration again. I think it's strange how the error message appears for a few seconds and then disappears, however the car still remains in limited power mode. I've also run the self tests however it shows no codes. The issue has been ongoing for a couple of months; it did it maybe once or twice over a period of a couple of months however a few days ago whilst I was driving in very wet and very cold conditions on the motorway it occurred around 10-15 times in the space of an hour, so I suspect the cold conditions might be a factor to this too? I think I also managed to recreate the issue but without the engine malfunction message appearing - the engine would chug quite roughly at around 3.5k revs but I still had the acceleration at lower revs, whereas when the message appears I would not have any acceleration at all. The car had a full service 2 weeks ago, which had all its filers replaced. Any suggestions or help would be very much appreciated! Thanks in advance.
  3. New forum member and first timer poster :) Got a 2009 Ford Focus with a rather old, outdated and glitchy 6000 CD player. Looking for recommendations for a sub-£200 replacement. Doesn't need satnav however ideally does need USD connection, bluetooth, CD player and hands free. Not overly tech saavy but having read a few other similar threads here and elsewhere believe i might need a double din conversion kit as well? Suggestions please oh wise ones...?
  4. Hi all! So! I currently own a fantastic Ford Fiesta Titanium 1.0 Ecoboost 99, which I absolutely love! This engine has plenty of power and go about it. I've recently been looking at replacing my ageing Fiesta and have found a next to new Ford Focus Titanium; with very low mileage, with lots of added extras, everything I like about it and all at a fantastic price! The only doubt I have is it has the same Ecoboost 99 engine as my Fiesta. The mother owns a Focus with this engine and I test drove it and found it a bit more sluggish in the Focus due to the car's additional weight, but only when out of town and received approx 5mpg less. I'm wondering if this engine will struggle with say four people plus luggage in the car? Will I use a lot more fuel working it harder? Would I regret not going for the slightly more sprinted 125 if I go for the Focus I have found with the 99 engine and compared to my nippy Fiesta? Thoughts please? Many thanks!
  5. Engine System Fault

Hi All, I am facing problem with my Ford Focus 05 number plate from yesterday. Yesterday evening it shows suddenly "Engine System Fault", then "Acceleration Reduced".... I drive home like 5 miles without any problem but that message was showing.. Then this morning haven't seen any message. But, in the evening coming back home just now had more problem... first shown "Engine System Fault", then suddenly "Malfunction" stuck on the road. Tried couple of times to restart the car... but without any luck... after 5/6 times/minutes...It shows again "Engine System Fault", then "Acceleration Reduced" and I drive back home. Last I haven't seen any message....but showing engine yellow alert light.... I am really worrying what can be the problem.... I have annual ford service booking on 4th July with MOT.... and now this problem.... What should I do ? what is the best option in this scenario ? should I wait for next service 3 weeks time or... book appointment urgently.... but in that case... is it possible or safe to drive the car Will be grateful, if you guys share your experienced opinion for my situation. Thank you in advanced... Zaki

  8. Hi Guys, Today I went to AutoGlass with my Mk2.5 2008 Ford Focus Zetec and had a replacement windscreen fitted under my insurance. After they fitted the new windscreen I noticed the interior lights were no longer working as they should be. At first I was glad to hear they'd be fitting a "like-for-like" windscreen and I would still have my heated clear screen option on the front. I waited almost three hours for the result and at first glance I thought they did a good job. As soon as I got in the car however, my judgement of their workmanship changed, I noticed the interior light was in the center position, only switching on when the doors (or bonnet?) are open.. what was odd about this, was with all the doors closed and the hood latched into place properly, the light would stay on. Before the windscreen replacement, this feature worked perfectly fine. So before I left I wanted the guy to look at it, he dismounted the interior light fitting, which he admitted he needed to do as part of the replacing of the windscreen procedure. His professionalism suddenly broke down at this point and he just gazed at the light, baffled. Having spent some time reading forums via google i've found that the bonnet can trigger the interior lights to come on, if the car thinks the bonnet is open? The interior light, looks perfectly fine and when he dismounted it, it looked fine. So now I only have two settings - ON, or OFF.. Any ideas guys? If I turn the engine on, the dash doesn't tell me any doors are open. I've lifted the bonnet and dropped it shut again securely and that doesn't resolve it either. Thanks, toptoe
  9. Hi All So I am thinking of joining the Ford family. I'm after a Zetec estate and was hoping you guys could give me some advise or point me in the direction of similar posts I'm looking to spend max £2000 as it's only going to be used ford about 15 miles a day. I have seen a few 2006 models with around 70K on the clock. Is there anything I should be looking out for fault wise? At what point should the cam belt be changed? I'll also be chucking my dogs in the boot and on occasion my lads bike, is the boot space good? Any help and pointers would be greatly appreciated Thanks in advance Craig
  10. Hi folks, I'm banging my head against a brick wall on this one. The fact that both side lamps are out of commission suggests its a fault with something common to both circuits as I know the focus side lamp fuse systems are separated into left and right side. Bit of background info: Both side lamps not working - timing of fault unkown New bulbs installed - no fix Checked fuses 124 & 125 - continuity good Power cycled battery (disconnect neg pol, leave 15 mins) - no fix Any ideas as to what else it could be? I've heard iterations of a faulty switch, and to test if there is 12VDC at the light fitting. Still to try the latter Any help / ideas appreciated. I'd like to explore all avenues before spending £££s at a garage. Cheers, Alex
  11. Hello fellow Ford fans! A few weeks ago I heard that here in my city apparently a bigger than normal amount of time belts snap and/or have to be renewed. I thought it must be a joke since I couldnt see any reason as to why time belts would suddenly snap more easily in here than somewhere else. Fast forward to now, I finally found the car I want: Ford Focus 1,5 TDCi 120 S/S Titanium Wagon 2015 It has 89.000 kilometres on it, price around 19k Euros. I decide to call the previous owner and ask him for any faults and he suddenly says that he had to change the time belt for 3 TIMES already, that is an insane number of time belt repairs when the car has been driven for 89k kilometres only. He then says something related to what I said above, that he was driving this certain road all the time to work and apparently alot of people who use that specific road have time belt issues, because theres some sort of weird dust coming off the road that has all kinds of metals in it that cause the time belts to snap and/or get worn (cant remember if it was chrome or something thats being used in the road, something very odd, its been proven already that the road has this stuff). He says that most likely the time belt issues were caused because of that. (he gets no benefit from the car being sold, he already sold it to the shop, so he has no reason to lie). I then started googling and there were various articles all around my country made by big news papers about this very effect of time belts snapping and/or wearing down in my city and it most likely being caused by the material thats in the road or something. Now, is this car worth buying? Could this actually be a problem in the car itself and NOT because of this odd, mystical road dust that ruins time belts? I really wouldnt like to buy a car that is going to get its time belt snapped 3 times every 100k kilometres. Any opinions here, could there be any truth to this story or is the car just FAULTY and has serious time belt issues for some odd reason? What should be done, this whole thing got be confused real good haha!
  12. I own a ford focus mark 2 1.4 zetec 16v, gear selector cable has snapped. Does it matter if a cable comes from a 1.8 zetec to go on my 1.4? Are they the same or different in length
  13. Bluetooth Help

Hi Guys I am hoping you can help me. I have a 2011 Ford Focus MK3. It has the old fashioned Sync in it with the Sat Nav built in. My phone is a 2015 Samsung Galaxy S6 and since I got the car in 2015 the two have worked in Harmony since working brilliantly. However, Last week I received a Samsung GearFit2 Smart Fitnessband as a gift. This connects to my phone via Bluetooth and my watch receives various notifications from my phone and sends various fitness data to my phone. This is all great and works fine. UNTIL, I get in the car with my watch on. My phone will connect to the car normally, and all appears well, until I get a phone call. It comes up on the car screen and I answer it through the car, HOWEVER, the sound will not come through the car if my watch is connected to the phone. If I turn the BT off on my watch, it works fine, but, I use the watch for a lot of the notifications so I'd rather not have to remember to disconnect the watch everytime I get in the car. Has anyone else had this problem with a smartwatch? How did you fix it?
  14. Hi all, Just had the brake pads and brake disks replaced on my ford focus 1.6 2009 mk2. Driving home from the service centre I've noticed that when the steering wheel is straight the car goes slightly to the right! So i have to have the steering wheel going slightly to the right to make sure the car is straight. now i will definitely take it back to the garage Monday however any ideas what this may be? Do you think its linked to the fact ive just had my brakes done, the steering was fine before having that done. any help is appreciated
  15. How's it going folks, I've been a member on the FOC for a little while now, I've done more reading than I have writing, although now comes the time when I would love some advise and I found why not bring it to x amount of people that own Focus' themselves. Attached is a photo of my Mk3 Focus, just for fun, not really an up to date photo, its just cool Anyway! In a little while I am planning to Stage 3 various parts in my car, at the moment were at Stage 1 with a remap and a K&N Air Filter + Box. Its sitting at around 140bhp although I know that with power CAN come issues, has anyone been successful with making this type of Focus into a project. My question is though, has anyone upgraded their clutch? My car is 2011 with 61000 and I know its going to be clutch time soon so I want to upgrade the clutch so when I go for a new turbo, injectors etc theres a better chance of not burning the clutch in a week. @PaulMcCafferty97 on Instagram if anyone wants to follow the project:)
  16. Hi I'm new to this no bear with me please. I have a 1.8 TDCi focus Ghia on an 07 reg, it taps continuously no matter if the engine is hot or cold. The car still drives as though it should and pulls very well but the noise is just annoying. Does anyone else have this or know what the problem is or how to cure it? Thanks in advance
  17. Hello, I was hoping someone can help me try and give me some feedback for battery testing a Ford Focus 2006 1.6 titanium (115ps VVT). Its got a parasitic battery drain that flattens the battery within a week from a full battery or, more likely a day or two after a quick 15 minute spin when already run down\jump started. I use the car roughly 2-3 times a week normally, but not at all when I am on a 2 week holiday! This issue is particularly problematic for me as: 1) The car is stored in a communal underground car park with does not have a power socket so I can't charge the battery overnight, or at all with a normal charger easily. i live on the 3rd floor so I would need a 100 meter extension cable! 2) Said car park is underground so a solar charger is out. 3) Owing to the focus maintenance friendly battery placement (i.e under the windscreen) i can't fit a battery isolation switch on the battery (which I would be willing to do if it meant that I could save the battery). Battery was replaced recently with a new Bosh S4 Cal-Silver (600mah 540a) as I thought this could help and it has, however it has not solved the issue. So I don't believe its battery related. Followed instructions for testing here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KF1gijj03_0 Rough timescales with all fuses in (door shut and double locked): Above 2amp until the lighting dome goes out - 0.61a for 10 seconds 0.52a for further 5 secs Then 0.43a after about a minute falls to 0.39a. after about half and hour falls to 0.30a after about 45 minutes-1hour falls to 0.11a Doesn't drop any more than 0.11a or 110 mili-amps after any amount of time. I have taken out all fuses (including the engine fuses), checking each one in turn and replacing it, and only found 3 that effect the power of the original 390ma draw that lasts for 20 mins - testing after this is difficult as any action resets the timer and amp-age to .39amps: 55 - central locking driver door module - 20a fuse (30ma) 80 - battery saver and interior lamps - 10a fuse (100ma) 46 - instrument cluster(dash) on board diagnostics - 10a fuse (150ma - however I had some differing result here - 70ma then 80ma later - the 70 may not be purely dashboard related and more engine management). So I re-ran the test with these 3 fuses removed. 0.18a for 20-30 minutes then 0.11a constant - doesn't drop off any further. - Therefore something appears to be draining my battery at 110 mili-amps after everything is shutoff and the PCM has 'gone to sleep', and that doesn't look to be anything fused? Everything appears to be shutting off that I have found is drawing current at 0.39amp, So it can't be the interior lights, dashboard, central locking, alarm or radio (I disconnected the aftermarket radio). Not being a electrical engineer I am a bit confused by this! My question is how is this possible where do i go from here? Should I bother pulling the relays to see if anything stuck on? Are they not all fused? The alternator appears to be charging OK, at 14.2-3amps when the car is running - not overcharging so regulator looks OK. Should I try to disconnect this to see if its drawing power back? Anyone knows how to do this on a Focus? Is it easy? Any other ideas? Its driving me crazy! CALCULATION FOR BATTERY DRAIN: battery 60000mah (600ah), 540a Let say the battery can't start the car after it get below half full or 30000mah Lets say that the car is pulling 400ma for one hour after any door is opened. Also lets say that happens 4 times a day (getting a pram in/out) = 1600ma Then let say 110ma for the other 20 hours a day = 2200ma Total Day use = 3800ma 30000/3800 = 7.8 days before flat enough to not start car if battery perfect. battery now probably less than perfect and very seldom gets a full charge (long run in the car). 18. Hi, I'm looking for advice on my 56 1.8 ford focus tdci, a red warning light of a cog and exclamation mark has appeared on the dash and has gone into limp mode, and after a diagnostics test at Halfords the code read was p0490 egr valve, circuit to high. Ive had a look under the bonnet and it looks like the egr valve is leaking as its covered in black tar/soot I've also included a few pictures. any help and advice would be appreciated as Halfords have quoted £694 to fix it and ive only had the car for 2 months (bought off my mother-in-law LOL)
  19. Hi guys I've been having a bit of trouble for a while now with starting. It's really intermittent, although it has become progressively more frequent. It will happily crank over and sounds as if it's about to start then fails. This can repeat quite a few times (10+ in the worst cases) until it starts. If it's taken a few goes to get it running then you will get some white smoke from the exhaust - this is the unburnt fuel, so it is definitely injecting fuel even though it won't start... As I said this has been going on for a while, maybe 6 months now. Initially it was a case that the problem may happen a couple of times a month and it would always start on the second attempt. More recently it's happening much more frequently, and regularly requires quite a few attempts before it will start. I've had in on the diagnosis machine (I'm quite lucky and have free access to one). No error codes, nothing, nada. Even had the diagnosis machine on it during starting while it was having the issue and everything is as it should be (i.e fuel pressure is good, all sensors are a go). The diagnostics also confirmed that the engine is perfectly balanced when running, no misfires or anything like that. There is not a single issue while the car is running, it's purely a starting issue. Fuel economy is as good as ever, runs perfectly and the speedo rev counter are accurate. I've gone ahead and replaced both the camshaft and crankshaft sensors now but this hasn't helped at all and it's still happening. I'm confident it's nothing to do with the glow plugs (it started fine mostly during the winter) and the issue happens both during hot and cold. As in, the issue is so intermittent that it can occur after a two hour cruise on the motorway when you stop at a service station, or in the morning. It's seems unrelated to hot or cold ambient or engine temperatures and how long you've left it sitting does make a difference either. Wet or dry doesn't make a difference either. I'm all out of ideas and can't think what else could even begin to cause the issue. It appears to be electrical, but what else is involved in the starting process that could affect it? Any ideas / thoughts / experience of the same issue are all welcome! Just to be clear it's a 57 plate 2.0 TDCi Focus with around 70k on the clock. Thanks Rob
  20. Hey, wanted to make this thread to show other people who maybe are planning to do the same to their Ford Focus and also to take new ideas from any of you. We own a quite unique model of the Ford Focus. Its a 2.0 TDCI with 110hp automatic which I have never seen before. You can find more information about it here: http://www.automobile-catalog.com/car/2010/968675/ford_focus_2_0_tdci_110_ghia_dpf_powershift.html Anyway, when we got it, it look like a normal Zetec S but since then we have done the following: - RS Spoiler - Painted the Zetec S back diffuser black - Painted the bonnet tip - RS replica rims - Tuned the car back to it's original 140hp. What's next? I have been looking at some RS grills for the front, but I'm not sure how it would look like on this color of the car. We have just recently installed a Zetec S front splitter from triplercomposites.com which you can find images from at the bottom at the thread. Do you have any other ideas to do with the car? If some are wondering: the car has Ford's improved Sony stereo and has AUX. We are planning to add DAB+ adapter. Here are some images: Currently I only have this image of the new front splitter: (The rims you see is for the winter tires.)
  21. Hi Everyone, This is the first time ive ever particiated in any kind of Forums however i really want to make my Ford Focus 1.6 Zetec Auto 57 plate look as cool as possible without breaking the bank to do it. i have been so inspired by some of the topics ive read and as a kid have asked for advise. So i ask for as many advise and information on turning a standard interior, looking classy. So far i have managed to chnage the trims of the sterring wheel only because the standard silver was worn out and for £9.99 these are perfect. This post in particular was so inspiring http://www.fordownersclub.com/forums/topic/43265-radio-upgrade-on-a-mk2-focus-finally-finished/ thanks to Stoney and http://www.fordownersclub.com/forums/topic/43815-show-us-your-aftermarketupgraded-headunits/ thanks Mike for the reply. Now i want to change the following from the below standards (inspired by the above) Now for the above i need info on parts, Stoney has provided a guide to install a Factory Sony 2008 (i think) system into the car. however i need to find out where i can get the tools from or the carbon effect or unless i wrap it how do i do it? like shown in Mike's Pic http://www.fordownersclub.com/forums/topic/43815-show-us-your-aftermarketupgraded-headunits/ finally the below pic, am little confused as my Cigg lighter doesnt have a flap as shown in Mike's pic http://www.fordownersclub.com/forums/topic/43815-show-us-your-aftermarketupgraded-headunits/. Is this something i can add/install? and can you tell me what they are called plz so guys, you know what the plan is now i need you all to help with guidance and ref to make it possible. O yes before i forget, my rear speakers have busted and i dont have a clue what to replace them with... Ive read many articles however it doesnt say what size are the correct ones and or if any other sizes can be installed without any hassle. So guys your help on the above will be much appreciated and i wait in exitment on your response. As you may have gathered ive never done anything like this before, always a first hey :) :D
  22. Hello folks. Would like to know if someone here has bought and used one of these http://www.ebay.com/itm/Digital-Gauge-4-in-1-TurboGauge-IV-Auto-Computer-Scan-Tool-free-shipping-/301972790872?hash=item464efb1e58:g:N1QAAOSwnFZXT~qY . My poor mk1 foci, doesn't have a trip computer, so I am thinking to buy one of these and add it to my car as an adition of a trip computer mostly, cause I would like to see my momentarily mpg. Has anyone here bought one of these and used it in their car for an extended period of time? mk1 focuses have kind of a difficult to pair obd port, and I am kind of afraid that I will buy it and it won't work at last. Looking forward for your replies!
  23. Hi, I'm hoping for some advice/ sign posting. I've recently bought a 2012 ford focus estate titanium x. Unfortunately it only came with one key... So I'm looking to buy and programme a spare one. I've been into my local ford dealer and theyre quoting £200... A bit pricey in my view. Can an,,yone advise where I could pick this up a bit cheaper? I'm also after rubber mats and a boot liner, if you know where I can pick some up at a reasonable price? Thanks in advance, Liam
  24. New Car (from mk3 to mk3.5)

Hi All, I have just purchased a new 2016 'facelift' (mk3.5) Focus in px with my mk3 2012 Titanium X. First impressions of it are that it does appear to have a few improvements. The centre adjustable cup holders seems to be a nice touch too!. Upon opening the doors and boot I did notice straight away that it seemed much lighter (not sure if 'flimsy' is the right word) in comparison to the previous version. I also noticed that they don’t have the flip-out rubber door guards when opening the doors too. I was a little on the fence as to whether this was a good thing - ie. Cutting costs to make the car lighter, or a bad thing - ie. Less durable. What prompted the though was the fact I had an accident earlier where a driver clipped my car door whilst I was putting in my son in the rear child seat. The result, a loud impact, but hardly any damage…barely a scratch. Im guessing it was down to the durable materials used for the doors? Other than that the new car seems to have every option available that I was missing (nav + rear cam)…everything except a sunroof (which isnt a big issue) I have read a few reviews to suggest the newer facelift model is "possibly the best focus yet". It would be interesting to find out if any other forums users could share their experiences moving from the mk3 to the mk3.5. (anything from interior/exterior, performance in comparison) Any thoughts would be much appreciated?
  25. Hello guys, new to this so please bare with me, erm Ive got a Ford Focus 1.4 2002 with 25;000miles on the clock and recently( around a month ago) I was stationary at some traffic lights and noticed that when it's parked up the engine sounds likes it's going to stall the revs start bouncing up and down from about 800-1000 and there's a hissing noise coming from the engine when you open the bonnet. so I took it to my local garage where I get my MOTS done and he had it for a few days and changed the "idle control valve unit , throttle body , co2 sensors, " with second hand ones and he can't find the fault he's ran emissions tests, disconnected the battery after changing those above. He's checked all the pipes in the engine apparently. I've been looking online at all these posts and seen many topics about this , has anybody had this problem or solved it before thanks
