  1. Fiesta recall

    Took my 1.6 tdci zetec s 60 plate in for a winter health check today, and told ford doing a recall on the diesal glow plug module, cos when it rains it affects the module, ford come up with a solution and replacing the module free, just an heads up for other diesal owners. 
  2. Hi all, Looking to do an oil service and fix a leaky sump plug at the same time! Does anyone know what type of washer I need to go on the sump plug and where I could buy one?    Thanks in advance! Ben
  3. Hi All, First Post 3 weeks ago I brought a car from a car garage. Within 3 days it started to backfire and started to lose speed. later realised that water was getting into the spark plugs. So I changed those and also fitted a new battery due to finding that there was hardly any power starting the car. Took to a garage for a report which lead to realising the core plug was corroded, front break disc where corroded and that passenger front shock absorber was severely corroded and leaking oil onto the break disc.  Anyway now the car just isn't starting at all.. Recovery said its the starter motor however partner came home and some how managed to start the car. This morning I've gone to start it and again just not starting at all.  Every light comes on the dash and the mileage is just shown as ----. (See pic below) I've also noticed the immobiliser light is flashing like mad.  So I literally do not have a clue what the problem is?  And whether it's worth fixing as I love the car or just take it back? (however car garage said that if I return it refund will not be in full as he will charge me usage "but won't be more the £500" LOL?! Even though I've only had it 3 weeks)  the car was £1450 55 plate, 1.6 Ford Focus LX, @88,500 miles described as machially sound (just a heat cover needed reattaching which my partner did.) Do you know what's up with it?  Is this common/major issue?  Would your bother repairing it or just take it back for a refund? Any suggestions/ advice I would be grateful

Hi, I need to replace a broken yellow drivers knee airbag electrical plug which is attached to a loom in the driver's foot well, a loom which also feeds the nearby driver's foot well courtesy light. It has just two wires into the plug from the loom and I think it would be easy to repair but is there anywhere that sells this item alone? I will try Ford but I do not want to replace the entire loom just for this one little plug which I suspect is integral to the loom. Is there somewhere online that specializes in Ford electrical plugs such as this? This plug is for a Ford Fiesta 2009 1.25 Petrol Zetec. Thanks, Gallantfive

Hi all, i have been looking through the forums to try and figure out what has happened to my focus, i bought a tuning box from a tdi tuning company, it came with a money back guarantee which i have had to use, after i put the box on the car was using a hell of a lot more fuel, i mean a lot - without any noticeable power gains, so after a few days i decided it wasn't for me, however ever since i installed it, and now even more so since i removed the box my car loses power, glow plug light flashes and the car dies! i turn the ignition off and on and away it goes. the car has had a fully synthetic oil change 3 months ago along with all filters, coolant etc. I removed the cam sensor as advised on other posts here but i cant really tell by looking at it if its ok. I also last month cleaned the egr and maf sensor. im hoping this dam tuning box hasnt messed up the injectors or fuel pump, as when i restarted the car after it died the other night there was a horrible whining coming from the engine bay!! this went away as i stopped the car straight away. also im thinking of getting it on a diagnostics machine but surely there wont be any codes if the problem is intermittent? any suggestions would be greatly appreciated, cheers in advance!!
  6. Hello I have a ford ranger 54 plate been to the garage because the glow plug relay keeps on clicking when the engine is turned off and the key removed don't know what it could be ? But after about 10 minutes the battery is flat and the glow plugs burnt out somebody said bad earth somewhere but where ?
  7. I have managed to snap a glow plug 3/4 of the way down inside of its hole, I have removed the thread and most of the plug. What can I do about the remaining piece? Is it safe to drive with this back inside? Should I screw the broken part back in to cover the hole? Somebody help please, I cannot afford to go without my car and I cannot afford to get the head removed.
  8. Turbo Change!!!

    Hi there, I have a 2005 2.0l TDCI 115 Mondeo Ghia. My cars stuck in limp mode, so got it diagnosed it said turbo actuator got that changed but it's still sticking so I need to clean/change my turbo. Found a really cheap 2006 2.0l TDCI 130 turbo will it matter if it's different power? Should I just try it on? Or should I try cleaning old one on my day off? Any suggestions/help

The petrol pump on my fiesta 1.25 zetec has packed up, i have purchased a replacement from a breakers yard .All the connections on the pump are the same but on my car there are four wires to the electrical connector but on the one i purchased there is five wires, does anyone know the difference.What is the extra wire for ?
  10. Hi All, Having a bit of an issue with my newly acquired 07 focus estate and couldn't find anything via google. The 12V plug in the dashboard doesn't work but the one in the boot does. I was wondering if they're on the same fuse if they are then obviously the socket needs looking at but if not it's most likely a fuse which i can change myself easily. Any advice appreciated Thanks
  11. I have recently bought a 2005 Focus 1.6 petrol. After trawling the forums I've learnt a lot about the washer jet issue. I have replaced the washer jets, bought a Volvo cover and used a mini hose attachment to suck out the remaining water in the spark plug well. I want to fit new plugs, however, I found this in the 3rd spark plug well Looks like a screw/plug has rusted through and was sucked out when I cleared the water. Is this one of the core plugs? Any suggestions on how to fix this would be greatly appreciated.

    I have a 54 plate ford fiesta TDCI and it has begun to give me starting up problems in a morning when it is cold. I believe this could be to do with the glow plugs so i have decided to change them myself but i have no idea where they are located. Is this a simple job to do and can some show me where i can locate these please ? Thanks guys.

    hi,my 2004 mondeo tdci 130hp has issues starting and cutting 4 or 5 miles glow plug flashes and engine cuts out.wont restart for maybe 30 to 45 minutes.some smoke now and then,been told its either crank or cam sensor.any advice apprieciated as its driving me mad.or not.cheers .
  15. Hi, i have a Mondeo estate tdci ghia x 02 2litre and a few months ago the glow plug light began to flash. The car still drives well but there is a loss of power/speed and does smoke in the morning for a minute or so. I've blanked the EGR valve off, replaced and bought a new diesel filter, i also replaced a turbo pipe which was originally split. I also recently put in a second hand injector , however it is in full working order. But this problem still persists no matter what i do with it. any ideas/suggestions will be appreciated! thanks.
  16. Hi everyone, Firstly would like to say i'm new to the forum :) and thanks for any feedback in advance :) My focus and I are having problems. It has 125000 miles on the clock, had new cam position sensor and crank angle sensor fitted. On the motorway when cruising at 70mph it is fine, but when I need to overtake and accelerate quickly, the glow plug light starts to flash and the car goes into limp mode or the odd time it will even cut out! I have also tried running the car without the MAF sensor connected and it still has the same problem (was told it could be that) I don't know if anyone else has had this problem but if someone could shed some light on me it would be greatly appreciated! :) Thanks Kieran

I have had a problem with the "engine management" warning light coming up intermittantly for the last year or so (only shows once every couple of weeks or so) and when I switch off engine and re-start the warning light clears and I have trouble free driving for the next few weeks, Ford garage diagnostic suggested glow plug fault - but once tested they were all ok. Could it be glow plug relay unit having a minor electrical fault ? have you seen this issue before ?
  18. 1) Drive car up ramps ( I made ramps using 4 X 13 foot secondhand scaffold boards £5 each ). Disconnect battery negative connector. Jack up right hand side front of car off the ramp and support with axle stand. Remove front wheel and splash shield, 3 screws. ( Photo 1 ). 2) Remove nut from top of drop link using allen key and spanner. ( Photo 2 ). 3) Lever drop link downwards to easily push out the bolt attached to drop link. ( Photo 3 ). 4) Move drop link to one side so that there is a space to get alternator out. ( Photo 4 ). 5) Remove cooling cover on back of alternator 4 nuts ( 8mm spanner ) and remove 2 wiring connectors. The square connector looks difficult to remove but just press tab with sharpened bent strip of metal and pull plug off ( do not pull on wires ) ( Photos 5 & 6 ). 6) Make tool to release spring tensioner pressure from belt. Mine needed 12mm square X 20mm long bar of metal welded to 22 inch long 6mm strip of metal. Other Mondeos could need a hexagon shaped tool, not square. This tool fits square hole or hexagon shaped hole behind tensioner pulley. Pull to the left to remove pressure on the belt and lift the slack belt off alternator pulley( Photos 7, 8 and 9 ). If you don't have a welder a 12mm square X 20mm bar of metal and an adjustable spanner with tube extension could do it but will probably slip off under pressure. 7) Remove top bolt from alternator ( this bolt also supports wiring harness ). Then from under car remove the other 2 nuts. This leaves 2 long studs that must be removed using E8 TORX socket or pliers but protect the threads. These studs are not very tight. There is now a clear space to lower the alternator. With these 2 studs removed it is also very easy to position the new belt.You will see this when refitting the belt. I purchased a set of TORX sockets from Amazon ( Silverline 675072 14 piece only £8.80 ) very useful for other jobs on the car. 8) Turn alternator so that widest part is horizontal and wiggle it through hole under wheel arch ( photo 10 ). I then also removed complete spring tensioner, another 3 bolts, to inspect it. ( nothing wrong with mine ). This has to be removed if you also want to change the belt. When refitting the spring tensioner and belt ONLY FIT ONE of the TOP 2 bolts loosely ( the outside bolt ) of the spring tensioner then its easy to get the new belt round the spring tensioner pulley as you can move the tensioner outwards to give a 10mm clearance between the engine block and pulley and just loop the belt round the lower bracket of the spring tensioner to get in correct position. Note: this is the reason the 2 studs must be out because if they were screwed in you would not get any 10mm movement to get the belt round the pulley and lower bracket. Now you can go ahead and screw the studs back in while holding the alternator in place plus the lower bracket of the spring tensioner. I forgot to position the lower bracket of the spring tensioner onto the 2 studs. Note how long the threads are on the studs without the spring tensioner bracket on. Make sure you fit the studs complete with alternator and spring tensioner bracket. Also make sure the lower bracket is not upside down, photo 12 is correct way round. ( photos 11 & 12 ). I found it easier to fit the belt on the alternator pulley last when using the spring tensioner release tool.To save your fingers get a piece of wood 60mm X 15mm X 2 foot long, round off one end to the shape of the alternator pulley ( thats 60mm diameter ). Hold the spring to max release pressure using the release tool so you can easily tap the belt onto the alternator pulley from the top of the engine using a rubber hammer on the piece of wood. NOTE: Your release tool must go FULLY into the square or hexagon hole behind the spring pulley. I have noticed that a new spring tensioner had the pulley bolt 4mm too long which only allowed the release tool to go half way in so when applying heavy pressure the aluminium casting breaks around the square hole. So check all new brackets and cut the pulley bolt flush with bottom of hole if too long. My car is an automatic and the crankshaft pulley was in good condition although rusty. Just for the record if you get another car, I consider the 5 speed tiptronic automatic gearboxes on Ford cars to be brilliant, I have had my Mondeo 2.0 TDCI Est Auto 2004 since new and this gearbox has not given any problems at all. No clutch or flywheel repairs on my car. Its done 142,000 miles on original battery, alternator and serpentine belt. I am only changing the belt today because it should be done at 50,000 miles but there was still no sign of wear. Hope these photos and explaination make it easy for you to do this job. Have had good use of this 08 Focus 1.6 diesel (50,360) until a sudden event on M25 where we had to make it across three lanes and on to the hard shoulder when the oil light and then engine malfunction light came on. Oil all over the back of the car. Have had warranty inspection which has found a blanking plug inside the rear of the engine has backed off/come loose, jammed flywheel and let all the oil out (at 70mph!). New engine, flywheel and clutch . . . . . . . Anyone heard of this happening before. Apologies for dramatic introduction. . . . . .

Hello, Hoping some experts will be able to answer my question, I am not a mechanical expert so apologise now ;-) Car is a ford focus zetec 1.6 2008 Noticed a water leak in the centre of the car this morning so had a look underneath. It is situated just under the exhaust heat proof guard where the catalytic converter is situated at back of engine bay. It looks like it is the bottom front of drivers footwell starts...... I noticed water pouring out of this white plug in photo attached just under heat proof guard 10cm up.....what is this white plug for? I assume not normal? I have attached a few photos, one showing position on car where I am looking to help navigate you and the second of the plug Appreciate all the help and advice
  21. I have just changed the clutch on my 2003 1.8 petrol Focus, and I have a plug that I cannot find the connection for. It is on the same part of the harness as the lambda sensor it is a 2 pin plug and the plug is red on the inside. It's a bit embarrassing but I just can't find where it goes. Thanks
  22. Thanks for your help! 2002 Ford Mondeo Zetec TDCi 2.0 manual car 93k miles: 1. Takes 2-3 attempts to start when cold -starts fine rest of the day 2. Big cloud of white smoke when it does start the first time of the day 3. Glow plug light constantly flashes once car starts and never stops flashing 4. Cuts out over 70mph...can get to 80mph if I gently accelerate 5. No check engine light 6. DTC's read "none" when I hold down the Trip Reset button The car has been this way as long as I've owned it (four months). Never noticed the engine cut out at high speed until someone came to buy it and drove the hell out of it. I haven't found any posts about the glow plug light flashing constantly and immediately from start up. It doesn't matter if I drive for five hours across the country...the glow plug light flashes forever...I've never seen it not flashing while the car is running. Thanks again guys! Can't wait to get to the bottom of this!
  23. i have a 56 plate 2007 titanium ford focus i am having quite a bit of trouble with converting lights, as i thought would have been a straight swap from halogen to projectors but i have a problem of a 7 pin plug on my car not a 10 pin. does anyone no what the wires on the 10 pin are for or even better how it can be done thanks very much for any help given i am ready to pull my hair out

Hi all, i was under the panels this morning having a look up at my clutch pedal as its been acting up lately, Found out it was just the clip holding the pedal to the rod was loose, So i clamped it tight with two cable ties until i get it fixed properly.. It has now fixed the problem with the clutch :D. However when i was doing this i came across a plug that was hanging down right beside my clutch pedal were the pedal meets the rod. It looks like there is something supposed to plugged into it but i have no idea what it is!! All my lights/wipers/radio/windows etc all work perfectly so i have no idea what it is.. Heres a picture to give a better idea, Any help would be appreciated!!
  25. I have a 2003 Mondeo Estate with a 1.8L Duratec petrol engine which recently has started misfiring. The misfire appears to occur between 1500 and 3000 rpm and is more noticable during gentle/normal acceleration and less so under hard acceleration. The fault appears to have started after changing the spark plugs, but the plugs look to be working OK. Engine management light now on and looking to see if I can get the error codes read. Any experience of a similar problem and how it was fixed. Many Thanks Alan
