  1. Pressure In Coolant System

Hi all, I have recently brought a Ford Focus 1.8TDCi Duratorq 2008. When I came to check the coolant level in the system (cold engine) there was no coolant visible in the expansion tank. When removing the expansion tank cap, the system lets out pressure and the coolant floods back into the expansion bottle through the large hose located at the bottom of the tank. Surely when the engine is cold there should be no pressure in the coolant system? Thanks in advance!
  2. engine system fault

Hi all   i hope someone can help. i have a Ford C-Max, 2007 reg, 1.6 petrol engine. today the car has come up with a fault "engine system fault", then says "speed limited mode", and a red light is on. can anyone shed any light onto this please? from what I've read elsewhere this problem is quite serious and never seems to go away! need advice and help please.   thanks.
  3. I've have had this car since April and I'm more than happy with it's performance and general running. However the navigation system leaves a lot to be desired. It will not accept all post codes even if they are established addresses. It has taken me of route to avoid traffic hold ups only to turn me around a mile down the road and fetch me back to the original route. It would be nice to show all the roads in the area of travel, a leaf out of TomTom's book wouldn't go a miss.
  4. Hi, I got an engine system fault error pop up on the instrument cluster with the red light about 2 weeks ago and it went into limp mode. I took it to kwik fit and their bosch reader couldn't find any error codes. The error went away on its own and I was back out of limp mode. But the error is back! I now have an OBD cable and tried out forscan, it has picked up multiple DTC errors but I am unsure which one is causing the engine system fault (if any) and which faults are most severe, could someone have a look at the attached PDF and give me some advice? One thing that does look like it needs replacing is the battery? For extra info: Mileage: 100,000 miles EGR blanked Fuel and air filter at ~85k Oil change ~97k Euro 4 - DPF (according to ETIS) EDIT: removed attached codes as these are from the demo mode of forscan

  9. Hi, I' ve just purchased a Ford Focus Style 1.4 2006 plate. The car has 3 keys- 1 being central unlocking system remote. The car didn't unlock using the remote key so i put a new battery in the key fob- and its still not unlocking/locking the car. I have to use the key manually to unlock. Can anyone give me some advice? The engine starts etc and unlocks manually, i just cant unlock/lock car remotely Do i need a code to make this work again? Will the key be faulty? is there anywhere i can take it to be looked at? Thanks
  10. Long Warm Up Time.

Hi - I'm a novice when it comes to fixing cars so go easy :) I have a 2008 1.8 TDCi Diesel Focus Estate and last week I had a coolant leak; I found a hole in a pipe at the top and behind the engine which later I discovered was called the EGR Cooler Top Hose. I've since replaced the hose and drained the coolant from the radiator. When I refilled the coolant I had the heater blowing but couldn't find a bleed screen. The Haynes manual I have states that the 1.8 should have a bleed screw but I also read in a different forum that the 1.8 doesn't have a bleed screw. The car seems to be running fine but I'm concerned something isn't right. I get heat coming from the blower but the dashboard temp gauge takes a very long time to show any temperature. After a short period of time say 5 mins I get heat coming out of the blower, which seems right. But after 20 mins (5 miles in traffic), the temperate gauge on the dashboard barely reaches past the first quarter mark. But I'm sure before the coolant leak the gauge would reach the half way mark (normal) not long after starting my journey home. I've not gone on a long enough journey to see if the car reaches normal. I know this seems silly to ask but should I be concerned about the amount of time it takes to heat up. Could there be air in the system or could the leak have damages the sensor/thermostat? With heat coming out of the blower perhaps it's ok? I also appreciate that its quite cold on the UK at the moment; around 6 degrees. Thanks Chris
  11. Dvd Sat Nav System

Hi All, I am actually new in this forum. and also a new driver. my first car is ford focus which is old 2005 model. I want to upgrade my system so that built in sat nav, reverse camera, dvd, Bluetooth etc modern facility can get from the car. I know this is old and may be not a wise decision many can say, but as I want to run this car for next couple of years and I thought rather than buying a separate sat nav, why not buy a built in sat nav and others. btw, now I am confused which system I should buy and how they are reliable. I found Erisin ES1131F 7" HD touchscreen. Anybody have any idea about this system ? or any other better system for this car ? I will be very grateful, if you share your experience. thanks in advanced. Zaki

  15. I have a 2003 (53 Plate) Ford Fusion 2. I want to remove my 4500 Radio/Entertainment System so that I can see what ports and cable attachments are at the rear - thus giving me the opportunity to use a radio to auxiliary converter. I've seen it done with cars older and of similar ages to mine, but I won't know what ports are accessible until I have a look at the back. Any help would be really appreciated. Thanks, Cameron
  16. Hi, I have a 2008 KA which was fine until about a month ago. The EMS light keeps coming on and staying on, but sometimes it goes off for a while. I have had a diagnostic machine suggest its the throttle but there is nothing to worry about (two mechanics have said the same). Today the car was very lumpy when excelerating and felt like there was a blockage? When wating to pull away from lights, etc it feel like its going to stall ... any suggestions? Thanks.

  18. Hello all! I bought myself a 2007 Ford Focus 1.6 TDCi just over a month ago now with 94k miles on the clock, and I seem to be having a few problems with it! One day I turned the car on to drive to work and the revs were dipping at idle and when trying to move off I stalled. When I managed to get going, the car was jerking all over the place, revs were going crazy. I took it to a garage which was recommended to me and they disconnected the mass airflow sensor and, although the engine warning light was on and there was a slight loss of power, the car ran fine. After a week I went back to the garage and they replaced the sensor but then the jerking problem came back about half an hour later, so I got my sensor put back to the original one and went to a Ford Specialist garage who said that there was an air leak which I got fixed and they hooked up the airflow sensor again and everything was then fine. They also said there was a fault on the DPF but a good drive in the lower gears would fix it. After all of this, whilst driving around I noticed that the car would sometimes slowly feel like it was losing power over the period of about 3-4 seconds, then would judder every so slightly, but I thought nothing of it apart from that it could be the DPF. I was told to take it down the motorway for a good blast, but being a learner and driving around with my Dad, I couldn't do this! So instead I drove around some dual carriageways in 4th gear at 70mph for a good 30-40 minutes. I also started driving in 3rd at 30mph instead of 4th. The problem seemed to get better until Thursday (a day before my driving test!) when the car went mental again and was jerking all over this place, this time with a knocking noise if I managed to get the revs to about 1800rpm. Black smoke was coming out of the exhaust also. I managed to drive it around the block very carefully and the jerking went away along with all the smoke, so I went to take it for another blast down the dual carriageways, however after about 5 minutes a red light game on with "ENGINE SYSTEMS FAULT", so I pulled over as soon as I could and turned the engine off. 5 minutes later I turned the engine back on to drive home, the error was still showing, there wasn't any jerking but the car had NO power. Moving away from junctions was a very long process and I was at this point getting worried that my turbo had failed or something, but after reading about it, it seemed to have been "limp mode" (which I don't know much about!). I took it to the specialist garage again and they said that my DPF was completely clogged up and they were unable to get the engine above 3000rpm to regenerate it. They suggested having it removed but some quick research showed that it is illegal and my MOT would fail Feb 2014 onwards. They told me that the DPF does cause a lot of people problems but usually only becomes a real issue if you drive around town too much, and/or there is an underlying problem to which they had found some contamination of the mass airflow sensor with oil or something (he didn't go into much detail, they're going to look into it more tomorrow) I was just wondering whether anyone had any ideas/advice on this as I'm unsure what to do. My car is still under warranty, but the private dealer I bought it from wants to take it to his garage for a checkup, and I'm worried that he's just going to apply some temporary fixes so he can get out of the 3 month warranty. Thank-you!! :)

  20. Hi All, Im just about to return to a mondeo through my company car scheme (2014 titanium X BM) One of the options I can have (for a slight increase) is the rear seat multimedia DVD system. I have always had aftermarket kits installed to keep the kids quiet so have to decide to do the cheaper opotion or do the stadnard ford option. Is it a good kit, can you play/control DVDs from the drivers seat through the dash (rather than having to let them fiddle with the remotes, is the USB input good. does each one have a DVD insert option or just one? Basically is it worth the extra money? Ta Dave

  23. hello can anyone please help me i have a 2005 ford focus and it has now developed a engine system fault on the dashboard. it shows up no errors on diagnostic it stops the engine from starting and sometimes after a while eventually the starter motor will click but is fine when the fault is not there. i have tested my battery it has 12 volts and 14.4 when running sometimes when the fault is up it will not turn over as though your battery is flat but i checked voltage and it was 12 volts so this is fine. the only way i can get it to start is to bump it but this is pot luck as sometimes you have to turn the key on and off many times as it acts as though the immobilizer is on but then eventually bumps also everynow and then but more times than before i get pats code 13 come up and when i have engine systems fault i get 12 come up also i have booked it into ford to look at it as im totally lost and i do not want to buy a new battery or starter motor until i know it could be this. i have also checked fuses and swapped relays this fault was once just a monthly thing but is now turning into a daily more than once problem thanks paul
