  1. I've had the car about 4 years & not really done much to it other than an EGR blank & servicing (until this week).  This week I decided it was time for a change, below is a list of what I've got done so far in the last 3 days: Wrapped as much of the front interior as I can (easier said than done for some parts) so that's: The 4 satin steel steering wheel trims Single DIN head unit fascia Upper centre console Gearshift fascia Handbrake fascia Foot well lower trims Lower centre console including the rear "cubby hole" Fitted a single DIN Sony head unit with Bluetooth Fitted the external mic & route the cable out of sight Fitted a new chrome & leather gearshift gaiter & surround Replaced the tatty black gear knob with a nice silver one from a Mondeo Replaced all the accessible interior lighting with "white" LEDs Replaced the number plate bulbs with "white" LEDs (integrated resistors because the previous set flickered like a B**CH) Replaced the brake & reverse lights with CREEs (hint the reverse lights now illuminate the kerbside like sidelights which makes parallel parking/reversing at night without clouting the alloys a whole lot easier) Replaced the main beam & side lights with nice "white" ones (side lights are LED) Replaced the single light bulb in the glovebox Replaced the single light blun in the boot with 3 "white" LED pads (I had to wire resistors to ensure there was enough load to stop them flickering, so they're not a bright as they were originally but at least now they won't give someone a epileptic fit!) Unfortunately I didn't think to take "before" photos although I'm sure everyone here knows what the inside of a MK2 looks like & how crap the standard "yellow" interior lighting is along with "real" wood effect plastic trim!! To get a bit of practice with the wrapping I bought some unbranded (cheap) carbon wrap on ebay & had 4 goes at the centre console before I was happy that I'd got half an idea what I was doing.  From Friday night onwards I've pretty much worked non stop on the car, I removed the entire centre console (head unit console, surround, gearshift fascia, handbrake fascia, footwell trims & the main centre console with the cup holders etc) & got to work wrapping.  The final wrap material I used is 3M 1080 which is what the wrapping specialists use & there is a MAJOR difference in quality.  If you're thinking of going for the carbon fiber vinyl look, once you've had a good practice with the cheap stuff, don't be cheap get the good stuff, it's even got the tactile finish to it i.e. it's not a flat print & is much more resistant to being overstretched.  Unfortunately it seems to be pretty much impossible to wrap the bottom centre console itself due it's shape (6 different wrapping specialist confirmed that they can't wrap it).  I'm really happy with the end result although I am thoroughly sick of the sight of carbon fiber wrap, lol!  I've still got the 3 screw covers for the foot well trims to wrap but that should only take 15 minutes or so (but not today). I replaced the rather poor Ford Transit style head unit with a single DIN Sony with Bluetooth & fitted the external mic with the cable routed out of sight but once again forgot to take pictures as I went along  (removing the front A pillar trim was a bit of pain but I managed it without breaking any clips so I'm happy with that) I've also replaced the brake & reversing exterior bulbs with CREE LED's & all the user accessible interior bulbs including the glove box light (i.e. not the SMDs in the door controls etc) with "white" LED's (I'll take pictures tonight of the lights - & yes I know the car needs a good wipe down/vacuuming)  I'm really happy with things so far.  I've also removed my EGR blank & booked in for a Terraclean on Thursday so i'll be sure to post back with the results. My plans between now & 3 months time when I get my annual bonus are: Upgraded climate control dials (like Lenny's) 2 new front wings (rust bubble central) New mud flaps all round Strip back both sills to the metal Colour code the fog light front bumper strips Respray for the bonnet, wings, sills (all the way up to door seals) & all 4 doors so hopefully I should have nice "shinee" front end. On an unrelated note I can thoroughly recommend Nokian Weatherproof tyres for snow & wet weather driving (Auto Express weren't wrong when they rated them 100% for snow/rain).  I had 2 fitted on the front in January for the MOT & I've given them a thorough thrashing in the recent weather, despite the big heavy lump up front (the engine not me)  the front end has a lovely positive turn in, even in heavy rain.  Not something I could say about the Chinese "ditchfinders" I had on previously.  Feel free to comment, any suggestions etc are very welcome, if I can give anyone else any help I'll be more than happy to.
  2. Ivor

I have had power steering trouble on a few occasions recently. At start up no steering assistance for a short time. My car is 2011 Focus Zetec 1.6  Is there a technical service bulletin on this, or is this an indication of steering rack failure soon. The car has only 36000 miles. Any help with this.
  3. Key Fob Loosing Coding

Morning all, I have just had to re code one of our keyfobs after what i thought was the battery going flat, However, this morning it has stopped working again, re code it and its fine, anyone heard of this before? or is the keyfob on its way out?
  4. I bought my Ford Focus Mk2 in early 2005 - everything was fine with the car until the warranty expired and the Power Assisted Steering Pump and hoses failed. Ford quoted £800 to replace the pump and hoses. I rang Ford to complain that the pump should last for longer thsn 3yrs 6 months and due to my complaint they agreed to pay 45% of the cost. My car is now 11yrs old and done 94 000 miles. This week the hydraulic hoses have again failed but this time the pump is fine. I have contacted Ford to request recompense towards the refitting of new hoses - this appears to be a common fault on the Mk2 Focus - if I do not get anywhere with this issue then I will take it further to the government to ensure that Ford admits t o this expensive problem.
  5. Attempted Theft

Hi, I have recently bought a 2009 Fiesta Zetec S 1.6 (90) TDCi. (2 Weeks Ago). Just yesterday I returned to find that some scum bag had tried to steal the car. They gained entry via the driver door. The handle is missing, they must have used a screw driver to pop the latch. Inside the vehicle they have pulled off the plastic steering cover, and chiselled out the ignition from the metal chamber. In doing so the metal chamber which is part of the steering column has been broken in half which is what hold the ignition barrel in place. I have managed to put the ignition back into the correct position along with the immobiliser and the car starts. I would like to know advice on getting this fixed. Costs etc as I am unaware of the steering column is hydraulic or electric. I wanted to get advice before I phone my insurance company today. My excess is 250 voluntary and 200 compulsory. 450 in total. All advice is welcome. Thank you
  6. Ok so I bought this car earlier in the year. Has been fantastic for my family especially getting to hospital appointments with my daughter (she has a rare condition) My car, a 53 plate fiesta finesse was due mot 22nd Dec so I took it early. Arnold Clark found it needed a middle section of exhaust and three brake pipes. Got these all replaced at small garage and car was taken back for retest and passed! Got car home and since driver has brought it back it's had nothing but problems. This morning it was starting but unless reved it would cut out while idle. As the day went on it has stalled at every junction, roundabout and when lowering speed. The steering lock (yes the steering completely locks!) has completely locked after stalling a number of times (I ended up on pavement at one point as I was turning into the road!) AC want nothing to do with it as he only looked at car for mot and didn't touch anything. Another garage replaced fuel pump and I'm now stalling at a couple junctions but steering wheel still locking. Have spent 400 so far and at my wits end!! Garage noted rev counter shoots up and down too. All before Xmas too! Terrified to drive it and can't put kids in it. The car has v clean engine, and only 67000 miles so shouldn't be doing all this surely?!!
  7. My recently acquired Focus (2002 1.6 Ghia) came back from the garage the other day with a really tacky steering wheel. I just assumed it was some grease/grime, tried cleaning it to no avail (it was pretty dirty it turns out). Tried degreaser, still sticky. Tried WD40 (as it's good at removing sticky residues), still sticky. I've scrubbed it to buggery! So two questions: Any tips on removing the stickiness? And, to guide me on what to use, is the steering wheel leather on this model or just leather effect plastic? (some google search suggestions were that, if leather, a leather cleaner/conditioner might do the job)
  8. Hi everyone, I'm really frustrated that my Ford Focus has developed a clunking noise. I firstly noticed a slight clunk when releasing the clutch pedal (after the biting point) and sometimes when i press it down. But yesterday it also happened when I was applying the breaks, when coming to a full stop it, it happened just before I stopped or halfway. And the break clunk sounds like its coming from the right wheel side but it hasn't happened today Finally I also get a clunk when doing a 3 point turn, again its a single clunk but not on full lock, it happens before that and sometimes when turning either side. These clunks/knocks are random and hard to recreate. The thing that annoys me is that they appeared after I had a clutch and slave cylinder change last week , brought it back to them and they checked for play in the wheels on the ramp and other noise but couldn't recreate the noise. Just blamed it on a loose exhaust mount/heat-shields. First I thought maybe they didn't change the slave cylinder, which would explain the clutch clunk noise but now I'm not sure. Any help would be greatly appreciated :) Car is Ford Focus (2006), with 100K+ on the clock
  9. Remote Central Locking - Mk2.5

Hi, The other day the fob in my car became quite intermittent. Then stopped all together. Assumed (Rightly or Wrongly) that it is a new battery required. Changed the battery, and got nothing. So assumed I will need to re-learn the key via the learning mode (0-II 4 times in 3 seconds). I must have tried to get the car into learning mode, 30 or 40 times to no avail. Has anyone ever experienced this? Not sure if it helps...but I was in FF2 & elmConfig a couple of months back changing a few bits....i wonder if I have accidentally unticked/ticked something that I shouldnt have. Cheers Gary
  10. Ford Focus 2008 Steering Noise

Hi, I have a 2008 Ford Focus 2.0 litre Titanium with an auto box with 53,000 on the clock. Recently a metallic rubbing noise started when turning hard left that sounded like someone blowing over the top of a coke bottle coming from the front drivers side. I took it into Ford and the tech heard it and said he'd never heard a noise like it. They had recently fitted new tyres, discs and pads so he cleaned the pads on that side and set the steering to comfort mode as he said the steering pump can make all sorts of weird noises. It didn't help, 10 miles down the road it started doing it again. This was a couple of weeks ago but last night driving home along the motorway the noise was constant though quieter, but still audible and I tip-toed home. I took it to the garage this morning and dropped it off and it was doing it again. The same rubbing noise that sounds like blowing over the top of a coke bottle - not a grind or a squeak. There is no vibration in the steering wheel and pedals and the car seems to drive fine. The noise only happens at 20mph+. As the Ford tech hasn't heard it before has anyone else any ideas? He said wheel bearings don't make that noise - but what else could it be? Thanks in advance
  11. Hey guys, I've got a 53 TDDi and after it sitting around for a week, all of a sudden I've started getting a clunking noise while turning the steering wheel stood still. Driving it seems to be OK the majority of the time, every now and then it happens. Found a video on youtube which looks to be the issue I'm having. They say it was the front springs, is there any way I can double check the springs before buying new ones? Replaced my steering rack a little while ago (roughly 2/3 thousand miles ago) so thinking it may possibly be that. Heres the link: Any help would be much appreciated.
  12. Hi New to this forum, so apologies if I make any errors. I have a 2002 Galaxy petrol automatic 2.8 litre, 42,000 miles, which has developed a juddering noise when turning to the left at 20mph and above. Prior to this happening, I had a new passenger side shaft and coupling fitted during PDI, and since have had a wheel bearing fitted on the passenger ( left) side to try to get rid of a rumbling noise, which worked. Within 50 miles of it leaving the garage, it developed a juddering when the wheel was turned to the left. We were on our way to France ( which is where we now are) and we had no problems driving down, except that I took things very slowly when turning left. We have placed the car in our local garage, who were convinced that the noise was from the replacement shaft on the passenger side ( it turns out that our good old UK dealer who we bought from fitted a recon shaft which was worn) This has been replaced, but the juddering is still there. I think that the mechanic is a bit lost what to do next ( plus translation into French is not easy). If anyone has had a similar problem, I would really appreciate some guidance and advice, as I am reluctant to drive back to the UK until it is sorted.
  13. hi guys i am really really hoping someone can help, i have a tdci zetec 2004 without remote central locking. I have done alot of digging on the net for this and have seen the guide someone on here created. I have know (from what i have read) that any gem starting 6st is a no go as its for the face lift and as mine is a 5 door pre facelift i need one starting 4st which is all fine and I have read the post about the A,B,C,D starting of the two letters at the end of the GEM code relating to what it has. Now i have searched ebay and scrap yards for ANY (2st or 4st) gem ending with a CL or any ending in C - they do not seem to exist! I have found ones ending in DF and DA but have read that you need to have deadlocking on your car for them to function correctly so have not bothered with them. Can someone please put me out of my misery do any remote central locking GEMS without deadlocking and alarms even exist!? Or did all pre facelift if with remote locking meant they had deadlocks two? I have even found DA ending models in early LX cars. Please if you know the answer to this please let me know.
  14. Hi, 2007 1.6 petrol focus. Had the car around 3 years serviced regularly and never had a problem. (Apart from the bonnet clip 😡) Key fobs,, yes fobs (x2) won't work. First one, (the every day one) stopped working, got the spare and that didn't work either.;-( Two genuine key remotes suddenly stopped working ? Changed the batteries on both units just in case they had gone flat. Trawled the forum, tried the reprogramming of key fobs as per the ignition key on and off routine, got the car in programme mode but the car would not accept the keys by giving me the sound that it had programmed them. Now I'm thinking that it might be a bit more than just batteries, can't understand why both should fail at the same time.. Any ideas?
  15. Power Steering

I've got a 2003 Ford Fiesta and recently the power steering pipe broke so I had to buy a new one, which was nice and expensive! It has been fine since, however yesterday the power steering started feeling really strange. it seems to be fine when driving, however when I am reversing or even not moving, it is really heavy! Can anyone help me????
  16. Hi all, I have a problem that as baffled all mechanics that has came into contact with it. The fault When I am driving down the road everything will be fine, Then randomly without any warning the car will simply not allow me to accelerate and roll to a stop, when the car does eventually come to a stop (complete stop the car doesn't even idle) I get the normal warning lights like the oil pressure/battery but I also get a audible sound accompanied by the left red lamp being illuminated. the amber power steering lamp also comes on and the message reads steering assist failure. most of the time the car will restart fine but sometimes it can take up to 5 times to restart the engine. all warnings are cleared when the car restarts. The fault started off once every few months but now it is guaranteed to happen every few miles and the car is now unsafe to drive. Replacements I have had the fuel injectors changed because they were leaking and the fuel filter replaced. But the problem just seems to be getting worse and more frequent. is there some sort of safety feature that shuts off the fuel supply to the engine? Pic and Video The picture shows all of the fail lights after the car has come to a stop. the video show the car just after the car has physically stop me from accelerating the car does come to a stop quicker because I applied the brakes. it feels like fuel is no longer being fed to the engine but why? Any help would be massively appreciated cheers Alex car video.MOV
  17. A woman recently struck from behind by another vehicle claimed that the reason she was stopped in the middle of the very busy street was that she ran out of gas, the vehicle began shuttering, and the steering column locked up. While the first two make sense to me the last doesn't (in addition to passing two gas stations <500 meters back. Although the ford focus has a history of issues with the steering wheel locking, I've as of yet come across an instance of that being related to the fuel system. Has any one else?
  18. Hi, I would like to know what is required to remove the airbag from the steering wheel on the mk2 ka? I need to fit a new indicator stalk. Help would be much appreciated.
  19. Sorry to post something which is very similar to other postings, but I'm getting weary of googling. I've got a Mk2 55 plate Focus LX. The central locking works (always!) when using the key (can only use it on the drivers door as that's the only one with a lock !). However it stopped working with the remote. Changed the battery in the remote (trying the obvious things first), and it gets a decent power reading on the multimeter (the old one didn't actually seem to be dead either). I've looked at various things on the internet, but not got very far. One was powering down a 'siemens' box, which the Mk2 doesn't seem to have. Another was pressing a button on the door frame (that makes the interior light come on) - however Mk2 doesn't seem to have said button either. I haven't as yet dared to try and find the infamous fuse 63, and just wondered before I take the plunge into the unknown (I'm not mechanically minded), I just wondered if there was anything else I could try. After replacing the battery in the key, I did the 'learning' thing, and it seemed to do as it should, but still won't lock/unlock remotely. I did look into another key, but the guy who did them, after hearing the problem, said it sounded car related rather than key related, and that therefore buying another key might be throwing my money away (very good of him - I'm sure a lot of places would have gladly let me shell out). The problem ties in very roughly with having the windscreen replaced, but to be honest I think that's just a rogue element and not related. Any advice apreciated. Even if that advice is that I must seek out Fuse 63 :-(
  20. Steering Problems

hi all I am completely new here and could really do with some advise. my car had to go in to the garage with a belt slipping noise, the garage found out the pipe to my powered steering was split and the fluid had gone all over the belts, not to worry get the pipe changed and the belts (just to be safe). I go to pick up the car only to be told they had to remove some bolts from the steering box to reattach the pipe and in doing so has removed the thread from the box completely so nothing can be bolted back together. their answer was one part is aluminium and the other part steel so there couldn't be helped and now want to charge me for either a new steering box or an engineering firm to rethread it. my question is - is this correct or have the garage possibly stripped the threads and are just trying to get out of paying to fix it ? please help
  21. Hello guys I really need some help Ive got a mk4 fiesta and a mk5 Zetec-s. I brought the Zetec-s to put the bumpers, interior, suspension, wheels etc.. On my mk4 as I brought the Zertec-s off a scrap man as the engine was knackered but I didn't need the engine as keeping my mk4. All of the swapping parts are nearly done but I really would like to put power steering on my mk4 and as the Zertec-s has it I was wondering if it is possible to take it off the and put it on my mk4? I would also like to know how to remove it from the Zertec-s and possible fit it on my mk4. If anyone could help me I'd really appreciate it. Many thanks Rory.
  22. New Key

When i bought my s-max it only came with 1 key. So I have been to the local ford dealer to get a new flip key. The one that they said is compatable is only half compatable. It can start the car no problem. The problem is that it will not oppereate the remote central locking. I have tried the steps on multiple sites. Any ideas ?? I'm suprised that they gave me the new design flip key, not the first design
  23. Hello all, I'll start by firstly apologising for my uselessness and secondly for possibly posting this topic in an incorrect place. (sorry i don't use forums so not sure on the etiquette). I've scoured the internet and had no luck with my specific problem. I bought a flip remote key for my Fiesta in the hope that i'd gut the old remote key and pop the innards in the new case and be off. I understand obviously the key wont work right off without being cut etc. However i thought transferring the insides would mean no programing was needed. Now ive come to do the task and i can seem to get my hands on the Transponder. And i can't seem to remove the chip board inside without feeling like im going to snap it in half. , , , Ultimately this was a bit of a boredom/vanity project... its not crucial but if anyone could help, it'd be greatly appreciated!
  24. I have had to purchase another remote for our Grand C-max, Not from main dealer. Can I reprogramme it myself or do I have to go to a main dealer. It is a keyless start and not keyless entry. When I have removed the cover off where the ignition barrel would be there is only a plastic holder without any slot for a key. The remote slides and latches in nicely though? Photos of key fob below. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Regards Rob
  25. Bought my wife a second hand 2010 Edge and it only came with one manual key (likely not original) which has a red insert containing a 4D-63 chip. I'd like to get a flip remote fob without paying dealer prices, but I don't know which type came with the car originally, or would either type work? (please see photo attached). Car has central locking. ...and has anyone changed their key blade in the remote on the right? Do the key blades look like the ones pictured next to it?
