  1. Hi all, My 2006 Ford Focus 1.6 TDCi came up with an engine systems failure message today just coming off of a dual carriageway (70mph) accompanied by a red light next to the trip computer. I think it went into limp mode (severly reduced power, unwiling to rev much), so not good when you live at the top of a hill! Two other times when starting the car it has briefly displayed an error message (once it said "steering assist failure", and yesterday it came up with the same engine systems failure message"). Both times I have restarted the car and it disappeared. The car is a 2006 on an 06 plate, and has currently done 73500 miles. I bought it last may at 65000 miles, and it had a service just before I bought it. As it had just turned 6 years old/65000 miles, I'm presuming the DPF would have been changed then? Does anyone have any idea what's wrong? Thanks in advance, Minnis
  2. Spent £6000 on a ford fiesta zetec s (petrol) that had done 57,000 miles in April of 2015. About a month after I bought the car I discovered a problem. I was driving along in 3rd gear and tried to accelerate, however, when I pressed down on the accelerator there was no response for 1 or 2 seconds, and then suddenly it responded and the car began to accelerate. The problem has continued every since and has become more frequent. No warning lights have ever come on and no diagnostic tool has ever picked up a fault code when I take it to my local ford dealer (who the car is still under warranty with). Every time I take my car to the dealer they are never able to get it to "fault" & no fault codes were ever found hence they said that they can't do any more unless it actually breaks down or shows a warning light. I've had different technicians carry out many different checks on the car, the engine and other potential faulty parts have been cleaned but the problem is still occurring. After the ford dealer were put under pressure by myself to get the problem solved, they replaced the accelerator pedal but this has not fixed the problem. Has anyone had a similar problem with their fiesta? Or know of anyone that has? Any advice/ideas is greatly appreciated as I'm running out of patience with the car and the ford dealer. but they were never able to get it to "fault" & no fault codes were ever found hence they said that they couldn't do any more unless it actually broke down or showed a warning light.
  3. Hi all, New to the owners club Was wondering if anyone has had the same issue or knows what the problem might be? Just bought a 2012 focus titanium x 2.0 tdci (163) which has only covered 5000 miles. When i press the throttle in to pull away the revs will shoot up to about 1500-2000 stay there long enough to pull away then once your moving will all of a sudden drop to about 900-1000 then will pick up no problem. Problem is it doesn't happen all of the time, but enough to make you think twice before pulling out of a junction or on to a roundabout. It has happened when the car is fully warmed up after driving 30 miles or so. Would like to get this sorted ASAP as the car is for my wife who is 8 months pregnant and keeps stalling it. Any help much appreciated!
  4. Hi, Help! I've got a 2005 Focus Diesel low mileage around 45k. A few weeks ago it started to feel like the power was down (like driving around with the handbrake on). The at one point the whilst accelerating the power just dropped off and the engine went back to idle revs, the accelerator not responding. Called the AA out and got towed back to local garage. He checked a few things few filter, etc. but couldn't replicate. Fast forward to about a week back, same issue, loss of power, back to garage, replaced a couple of sensors and fuel filter again plus service. Was running ok for a week or so. From both of these incidents, turning ignition on and off and car would rev again, run ok. Anyway today, middle lane on M1, started to feel a bit of hesitation whilst overtaking a lorry, then the power died. I don't recommend this but had to flick the ignition on and off to get any power back to avoid an incident. In summary: - If engine is about to die, usually a lack of power at some point beforehand (like handbrake on) - No warning lights come on, the revs just drop back to around idle level as is someone disconnected the accelerator pedal. The last time it did stall after a couple of seconds too. - Reset ignition car runs OK (sometimes power still feels down) - Difficult to replicate - my garage actually haven't seen the issue first hand and because no warning lights no error codes Any ideas!? I feel like just dumping it with the local Ford Dealership and telling them it's a death trap! Thanks Mark
  5. hi i have a annoying problem with my car, i recently took it to get the starter motor changed and on the way up there it was driving normal,, it has always sufferd from a bit of black smoke but it pulled well,, anyway after getting it back from the garage it feels like the turbo is not working,, steep hills ill have to do in 2nd with foot down,, motorway driving is slow to build up to speed and then when in 5th if theres a slight hill speed will slowly drop,, pulling away from junctions and roundabouts is a nightmare,, any clues or what to look at first will be much appreciated, thanks
  6. Hi, I have a 2007 Focus 1.6 LX TDCi. Intermittently the Engine Systems Fault message comes up with the red LED and the car instantly loses power. Then at some point, sometimes 10 mins, sometimes a day. the light goes out and power is instantly restored - no gradual change, its like someone's thrown a switch. More recently the engine management system light has come on but its stays on all the time and when the red warning light is out the car drives perfectly, so presume the engine management problem is unrelated. Recently had to have the turbo changed so don't know if that's related to this problem. Is there a list somewhere of problems that bring up the 'Engine Systems Fault' message? Anyone got any idea what the fault could be?
  7. I have a Jan 2008 1.4 diesel fiesta. It 'misfires'/ judders and momentarily loses power whilst cruising, and occasionally while accelerating. Last October 2014 it did this for a few seconds and shut down, had to call out RAC (and was on holiday!). Garage replaced one injector and said that there was a chance it would happen again, which it did, and now it it getting worse again. It does this a few times on a long journey but rarely on shorter journeys. I have had a number of garages try to find out what is wrong and I am now thinking of getting rid because I cannot risk a breakdown. So in a last ditch attempt I'm asking for some help. I like my Fiesta but this fault could leave me stranded and I cannot take the risk with this. Please help if you can.
  8. Hi lads, I bought a Ford Focus 1.8 TDCI (115ps) for my first car around three weeks ago. I have since given it a service and have renewed the rear brake pads, air cleaner element. oil filter element and done an oil change. The car has close to 90,000 miles registered on it. It's a 2004 MK1 Ford Focus, 1.8 litre TDCI engine. I don't have an awful amount of knowledge on these engines so I thought I'd ask here. Basically what has been happening is, I have went to start my car in the mornings after turning the key several times to allow the coil light to disappear. When I then proceed to crank the car, it will continue to try to turn over but won't successfully start on first attempt. Sometimes it does, sometimes it doesn't. This happens in the afternoons as well, not just during cold mornings. There's also a mechanical whining noise when the turbo kicks in. This happens in all gears. It sort of sounds like the drill that would be used by a dentist, if that makes any sense. I have checked all hoses and pipes for splits and lose fittings, but all seems to be fine. This isn't my main concern though. My main concern is there seems to be an awful amount of black smoke coming out of the exhaust. Most of the time this smoke isn't constant, but you can see patches of it in the distance when you're driving away and looking through your rear-view mirror. I was sitting at a junction this afternoon waiting for the traffic to clear before I could make my exit, and when I went to give it some revs, it felt as if the car was down on power and it was about to cut out on me. I then noticed that there was a ton of black smoke when I looked behind me. It continued to come out of the exhaust when I was building up revs in second gear as well. I have used a diagnostic machine and no fault codes are shown No warnings lights appear on my dash Car doesn't seem down on power in other gears and the turbo builds up boost as it should do Checked for split hoses and loose pipes I also emptied a bottle of diesel system cleaner into the tank this afternoon when I was refueling. I haven't been driving the car enough to be able to tell if it has made any sort of a difference though. Sometimes the car seems to judder and feel rough when beginning to start up and driving for the first minute or two. It has cut out on me a couple of times, but I'm not sure whether this was a human error and I'm just not giving it enough revs/releasing the clutch too much, but it only seems to occur during start-up and then it seems alright when I'm changing up and down gears after ten minutes or so. I have looked around forums and search engines and I've heard people experiencing similar problems. Some people have recommended to others that removing the EGR valve and giving it a clean/blanking it off will make a difference. Would this be recommended? Could this perhaps be the issue? I'm beginning to worry about this now, and it can be embarrassing when this happens, leaving cars behind me in a large puff of black smoke. It's more embarrassing than anything, really. I don't know where to begin looking, and I don't have the money to squander on parts which may or may not fix the issue. The coil light on my dash seems to disappear instantly when the ignition is turned on, so perhaps it could also do with a set of glow plugs while I'm at it? It's been due a timing belt for quite some time, as it's recommended to replace it at 100,000 miles or at a ten-year interval. This being a 2004 car and having no service history, I'm planning on replacing it so I can be at ease, along with renewing the water pump, tensioner and perhaps the alternator belt as well. It could may have already been done, but there's no indication of it being changed so I'd like to be safe than sorry. If you have any suggestions or past experiences with these issues, please drop a comment below. I'll upload some pictures upon request if necessary. I'd be glad to hear from you.   9. Good evening all, I have a 2008 Focus ST2 (facelift model) It has the Mountune MR290 Pack on it. Everything has been great, recently had a Blow Off Valve fitted, this is where the issue has started. When I'm driving it easy and i get to approx 2800 rpm the engine feels like it retards a little bit, then everything goes back to normal once i pass this rpm. The place where i bought the Forge valve from said it was an issue with the focus when its the exact point that the vacuum changes from negative to positive pressure (i may have that the wrong way around but I'm sure you all will know) I do love the sound of the car and i think that the blow off valve makes it that little bit better, but can't live with this 'miss' every time I'm driving the car steady. Can anyone offer any advice please, other than boot it everywhere :-) Many Thanks in advance Glen
  10. Team My 2006, 166000 miler turbo diesal has a beautiful engine but struggles when heavy rain and surface water. On two occasions it has lost revs and dies out. Other times it will stutter and changing down will breathe life back into the engine. When it died the first time, the engine would immediately restart but when I took my foot off the fast pedal it would die. A forty five minute wait for RAC, I tried again and it managed to get me into work.The rain stopped during the day and it started first time and took me home. Doesnt happen in the cold or the hot, only when rain about? Take it easy with the tech terms as I am pretty much a novice to anything diesaly.....cheers
  11. Losing Power

    Firstly, please accept my apologies if this has been discussed previously. I did google it but kept getting sent to an American web site and I couldn't understand their terminology! A couple of months ago I purchased a 2006 Fusion Zetec TDCI 1.4 Diesel. My main reason for purchase was I needed good MPG after starting a new job with a considerable commute (mainly motorway miles). A couple of times I had been driving at about 70mph when these was a sudden loss of power, to about 50mph, and I couldn't go any faster. Each time I managed to make my way to the inside lane but within a few seconds there was a sudden surge and I was back to full speed again. I recently had reason to drive 350 miles and back, twice within a few days, and I was understandly concerned about the drop in power. As it happened, 4 times on each leg there was a slight 'hiccup' whilst cruising at 70mph where there was a sudden loss of power but only for a millisecond. I optimistically thought the problem had gone away until today when joining the motorway when at the point of acceleration onto the slip road there was a dramatic loss of power (to about 30mph). I drove onto the hard shoulder but within a few seconds I was suddenly at full power again and I had a trouble free journey home. I would be interested to hear if this is a common problem or not and if so what the cause may be. I do like the car and love the 61mpg but I don't like the feeling of nervousness every time I drive it. Thanking you in anticipation.
  12. Revs Hunting 2000-2500

    In need of some help please My ford focus 2003 1.6 zetec SE has developed a problem. Started of last year in the winter when car suddenly woudnt start but after many atemps started eventually. But ever since revs have been hunting between 2000-2500. It also appears to have lost power in that band range. Also fuel consumption higher too as this was confirm when the car was close to failing emissions test as it had high reading. I have since replaced throttlebody and idle control sensor. Also the vacuum hose at the intake with a new one. Dont what to keep replacing stuff. Thats why i need help Btw idle is fine when cold or warm, the problem is band specific
  13. Hello - Could I have some help/advice please? I have a 09 Ford Focus 1.6TDCi which I bought 4 months ago with 66K on the clock, I was driving along the motorway (hour into my journey) and noticed when i went to overtake from 70mph i had no power like normal, felt like i had no turbo and it took ages to get to 80mph. The engine also sounded very loud as it revved up to 3,000rpm. No warning lights, no smoke. This continued until i got off the motorway, turned the ignition off and on immediately and it was fine, all power and back to normal. This lack of power was at low speeds and high speeds in all gears. Took it to a mechanic who replaced the EGR Valve as it was stuck shut. Drove it again for the first time and this power loss happened 10 minutes into my journey, again no warning signals or smoke just no power from the turbo. Again turned it off then on and it was fine. Spent 250 replacing the value so was pretty annoyed that it had been made worse!!! Any thoughts on what it could be? Cheers for any help.
  14. Wrong Oil?

    I was yesterday at the mechanics to replace the oil and filter. He told me that he have Ford oil, not to worry. I thought as I already talked to him before that he has Motorcraft or Ford oil but ... I come back and he gives me rest of a 5L Total Quartz 9000 oil (5W-40). Well, how?! It is this oil: http://www.totaloil.com.au/Pages/content/NT0000C302.pdf Oil is for Citroen, Peugeot, BMW ... but no for Ford and it does not say that it'sunder the specification WSS-M2C913-B, but only ACEA A3/B4, and Ford bible says: If you are unable to find an oil that meets the specification defined by WSS-M2C913-B, you must use SAE 5W-30 (preferred), SAE 5W-40 (except Flexfuel vehicles) or SAE 10W-40 that meets the specification defined by either ACEA A1/B1 (preferred) or ACEA A3/B3. Using these oils can result in longer engine cranking periods, reduced engine performance, reduced fuel economy and increased emission levels.What do you think? Should I remove this oil out and change proper oil?
  15. I have a fiesta 1.4 TDCI. When I bought it there where no pins in the MAF sensor and the fault was shown as the MAF sensor. The car starts and runs ok, it's a bit sluggish and it only gets around 50 mpg on a run at 70 mph. I fitted a new MAF sensor hopeing to get a bit more power and better MPG. The power is about the same but the MPG went right down and black smoke is coming from the exhaust, so much that I pulled over and disconnected the MAF again and the car is back to running normal but with low MPG. Any thoughts as to what the problem may be?

    Hi, I have a Mondeo Duratech V6 (Automatic)on a 54 plate, I am drawing air into the system resulting in loss of power, now spluttering to an engine cut-out. It has been to Ford for diagnosis and they confirmed air getting into the system and probably a gasket but at £90 an hour I decline their offer to work on it for a couple of days. Has anyone else had a similar problem and where is the best place to start. Thanks.
  17. hi was just driving my car today and it has started to lose power at 3000rvs, it starts from 3rd, 4th and 5th gear. i have just recently had my coil pack and spark plugs changed! my engine warning light came on a couple of weeks ago and my garage done a diagnostics test which showed up a fault with the exhaust sensor, im thinking this could possibly be the problem but the mechanic said it will be fine to drive with this fault ( mot due next month ), i have a feeling this is the fault which i have been told it will be £100 ish just wondering if anyone has any other ideas on what this could be thanks in advance
  18. i have recently purchased a 09 plate Focus Style 1.6 TDCI . I have noticed that on occasions 1. whilst 'cruising' at low speed (30mph) in 3rd/4th gear, the engine intermittently experiences a hesitation in power and then its fine again. 2. the engine experiences a loss in power when changing up in gears - normally occurs after driving for a while (about 30 mins) but can be intermittent. When I set off for work in the morning, there is normally a punch in the acceleration as I change up in gears and revs. At other times I dont know if I am imagining this or not ??1? I have also had one experience where I couldn't get any more power whilst going up a mild to moderate hill (10-20% gradient ?) no matter how much I pressed on the pedal. Even changing down and then changing back up didnt seem to make any difference. There are no messages or faults indicated on the dash and the engine idles nice and smooth. This is my first diesel and so I need some guidance/
  19. Hi, I have a focus mk1 1.8tdci and for the past 2 days my car seems to drop in power alot in all gears and when it does i can hear a loud grinding noise at the same time, it can drop in revs so much in 1st and 2nd gear that the car stalls. Any ideas? Thanks, Richard

  21. Good Morning Everyone, I own a ford focus titanium 1.6tdci 58 reg. It has done 91k miles. The car has been running fine until recently... If i accelerated off the line in gear one with roughly 25-30k revs the engine would cut out. I.e. putting my foot on the accelerator would do nothing. A sudden loss of power with no engine warning lights coming on. If i switched off the engine and immediately turned it back on the car would start again. I replaced the fuel filter and air inlet filter as good measure. The problem was then eradicated. It no longer loses power at lower speeds. I also took it for a service as they have the ability to flush through the system. The oil was also replaced with Castrol oil and engine coolant topped up. However, 2 days ago whilst driving on the m6 in the 3rd lane doing around 70mph the same thing happened and i had to drive across to the hard shoulder with what momentum the car had left. I then started the car again and it worked and i drove at 60 all the way home From a visual inspection of the car i've noticed #2 injector has caused the inlet manifold around it to melt slightly. I believe the HP pipe was causing the leak, i have torqued the nut and no more leaks. I'm averaging around 58mpg which leads me to believe that this isn't causing any problems. From revving the car i can see no signs of any leaks or any abnormalities. I have also used the ford diagnostic tool and my car has no fault codes The turbo seems to be working fine and kicks in as it should. I'm not entirely sure what the problem could be so i thought id post here to see if anyone else has had this issue before i start taking off components. I.e. wheres the best place to start If any more information would be helpful please ask. Many Thanks in advance.
  22. Mk1 1.8 Tdci Power Problem

    Hi everyone, First post here So I'm having a problem with my 2003 focus tdci (115ps). Basically it loses power at high rpm. In first gear it revs to redline no problem with plenty of power. In second gear it loses its power at about 4000 rpm, third gear at ~3200 rpm, and so on. It has perfect power to these rpm's, and then it can only slowly creep up to redline. I can't find anything online that I haven't tried already. Here are the things that I have done: -Checked turbo shaft, no play -Full service last week; air, oil, fuel filters done, oil change -EGR blanked, made no difference except for quicker throttle response -Cleaned MAF sensor -Checked hoses, new silicone hoses put in last week -Cleaned out air intake hoses and intercooler -No warning lights ever come on I hope someone here can help me :-) Thanks!   23. Hi everyone, I'm experiencing strange problems with my Ford Focus 1.6. (2008). Two times this summer, when air temperatures where really high, similar problems occured. I was driving for about 10-15 mins, both times, when suddenly three gauges appeared on display (engine, battery, oil) and car began to lose power and throttle became non responsive. I had to stop the car, turn off the engine, and when I turned it on again, there were no problems and I could drive the car normally. Car is regularly serviced and I went both times to my local Ford dealer. They said that the battery / alternator is good and that car system didn't record any error. Only error exisisting from before is airbag module problem (yellow light on display), but I believe that cannot be connected with the above mentioned problem? Did anyone have similar problem? I'm starting to go crazy on this, and I can't relax while driving because I don't know when and where this problem will occur again.

    Ok so I drive a clapped out 1.4 ford focus 2000 plate,I have had a problem when car is under pressure,ie when I accelerate from traffic lights or up steep hills, First the car will seem to lose power,a clicking/ticking noise can be heard from the dashboard with a juddering of the engine,feels like it just wont pick up revs. When cruising along there is no issue,only when having to put engine under pressure????????
  25. Hello, New to Ford owners club (unfortunately not an owner, but working on a friends car) Shes a teacher and needs her car often, but she broke down at the side of m61 yesterday. RAC attended and advised that the struggling and misfire was due to very bad water damage around the spark plugs, I have since today had the top off, cleaned the area, and changed the spark plugs & HT leads for brand new. She is all sparkly now. Now I was with her when we bought the car, the car was pokey, smooth running and no problems 'as such'.. only both before & after the plug change the car is very sluggish.. On start up it takes a good few pumps of the accelerator & turn over before starting, once warm, when stopped at traffic lights for sometime, the car wants a good few revs before picking up (without stalling). When given a good boot, there is no poke like before, its like there is a great loss of power. I had an old Fiesta Mk5 zetec S once that had a similar problem, and turned out to be the fuel pump.. is there a possibility that this is also the case? and if so how much am I looking at for a part.. Ps. I am not a mechanic just (handy, savvy with cars, slightly) lol. Anyway hope you can help.. Dan
