  1. Hi guys, can someone throw me a bone here. Following a rather harrowing accident an object hit the front of my bonnet, the catch popped and the wind threw the bonnet back over and into the windscreen. Now the car's been a great runner, but it's worth less than a grand so the £400 excess to have it repaired wasn't economically viable. I've managed to get a replacement bonnet, new hinges and new support rams - all fitted without problems, but the latch mechanism is damaged and unserviceable. However the lock mechanism still works perfectly, so I've bought a new latch, my question is, how do you get the old latch mechanism out? Is it possible to undo the two retaining bolts and either lift out or drop out the old one without having to start butchering the lock? If anyone has changed out this unit and can give me some pointers that would be great. All the searches I've done turn up loads of things about bonnets stuck closed or unable to latch correctly but very little about actually replacing the latch, not the lock.
  2. Hi all My 2009 Zetec focus is running smooth apart from a slight issue with the bonnet. It doesn't seem to sit completely shut, instead it it raised a few inches from the car when closed. The car isn't springing any warning signs regarding it not being fully shut which is promising. What could I do about this? I'm concerned about it becoming a possible safety hazard as well as rain escaping below the bonnet hood. What is causing this and how can I overcome it? Thank you!

i am looking at buying a Focus ST3 2006 and the lad i am buying it off has tolled me to get into his bonnet he needs to us a screw driver and to fix it is going to be £150 or something is it a big job and will it cost a arm and a leg to fix as i am just trying to find out price be for i go for it looked up on here and looks expensive please help be for i buy Thanks Adam
  4. Okay all, I know this is a well known issue with the Ford anti-theft and anti customer cannot access your bonnet issue but I wonder if there's a really good fix for this? My 04 Cmax TDCI has the "lock doesn't work" issue, I've replaced the plastic part with OE and it did it again so found a longer "boden" I think they call them on ebay and fitted that but it soon came back. Something is moving within the locking mechanism causing it all not to unlock. Is there a complete kit to replace with a fool proof repair? Not just changing for a new replacement of the same crappy design?
  5. I have purchased this very well built Custom bonnet strut kit for ford focus From a company called Visual-PerformanceUK on ebay.co.uk They stock and supply two different models of the kit depending on what model of focus you own, For the Mk2 Focus (2005-2008) http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/FORD-FOCUS-2005-07-GAS-BONNET-HOOD-DAMPER-LIFT-KIT-/250904330678?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item3a6b1041b6 For the Mk2.5 Focus (2008-2010) http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/FORD-FOCUS-08-GAS-BONNET-HOOD-DAMPER-LIFT-KIT-/290783697360?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item43b40f19d0 This guide shows fitting the Mk2.5 bonnet strut damper kit linked above. So here is what you get in the kit: As you can see in the images above, Each of the fitting brackets are pre-labeled for straight forward easy to follow fitting. Once the locations for each bracket have been noted. The labels can be easily removed for cosmetic purposes using a warm damp cloth. The kit also comes with a small tub of grease and a Cotton bud for easy application of the stuff without messing up your hands or trousers. Once you have set out all of the fitting kit and required tools. Go out to your focus and open the bonnet, then position the stock bonnet support bracket for the last time. Then using a Philips head screwdriver and begin to remove the screw head grommet on the side wing panels. I find it ideal to use a plastic drinks bottle cut in half and keep all small fixings in it until they are required for refitting. Costs nothing and helps to ensure no parts get lost. Once removed Trace up to the top of the panel and lift the end off the rubber strip. I have looked in to removing this plastic panel for easier trimming but as you can see in the images below; The side fender plastic trim panels are well bolted under the front wiper panel which spans the width of the car making complete removal of the plastic fender panels a bigger job than worth, However fitting is possible without 100% removal of the plastic panels. Remove the metal clips that grip the wiper panel. Gently lift the corner of the windscreen wiper panel to reveal a Torx Screw. Using a 90degree elbow allen key; remove this screw and store safely with the other bits. Once removed. You should now have enough free play in the panels To gently lift the plastic side panel and locate the side panel bolt. Please note: lift the panel just enough to allow the socket wrench to remove the bolt, do not lift too high or fast because the panel would be liable to snap or crack when put under unnecessary strain. When the bolt has been removed. Obtain the specific bracket for this side of the bonnet aswell as two serrated washers from the kit. Fit 1 x serrated washer on to the bolt Followed by the bracket, And finally the second serrated washer, Now bring back to the car and fit in place, The flat edges on the bracket aswell as the pre-drilled hole make fitting a breeze because it lines itself up perfectly without fail. When bolting it all down, Just lightly tighten because fitting at this stage is just for cutting purposes and not final fit. When in place it should look somthing like this:
  6. Hi Guys, I've recently purchased a 2004 KA 1.3 Collection for the other half, it's in really good condition for a 04 plate but does has a couple of small annoyances (for me anyway !) Both the bonnet and boot Ford badges are missing, I know I can pick some up from eBay but can anyone confirm if both badges would be the same size, or is one smaller than the other .. I only picked the car up last night so haven't had a chance to measure. Any help or advice would be greatly received. Thanks.
  7. I need to replace the two screws that hold the bonnet latch/catch in place. (Not the part on the actual bonnet, but the bit it locks into at the front of the engine, with the hook-y bit.) I can't find any on any of the parts sites (though have probably missed them), and eBay only seems to have complete latch kits. Does anyone have a pointer to where I could get some, or a suitable alternative? (Though not "some nuts and bolts" - I want it to look clean :) )
  8. There are loads of ways posted already of how to get into your bonnet, when the key lock doesn't work. Best one seems to be large screwdriver technique detailed elsewhere. 2 minute job. Having got the bonnet open. How to fix problem for good? (or do this before the lock fails!) My answer was to remove the grill and separate the keyhole lock from the grill. Separate the rubber grommet and pull it along the cable a bit. Get a suitable jubilee clip about 25mm diameter and slide it over the lock, along the cable part, over the rubber grommet and settling it about halfway along the white tube towards the bonnet catch. If you look carefully at the white tube you will see half its length is quite thin walled and gets more substantial as it gets nearer to the bonnet catch. Locate the jubilee clip on the weaker part. About 25mm to 30mm from the bonnet catch. The inner parts of the white plastic tube are able to slide in and out a bit. (This is why the lock fails.) It needs to be located into the bonnet catch. A big screwdriver and a bit of pressure inwards will achieve this. If you are a bit lost as to what needs to happen here then just take the bonnet catch off and have a look at the way it connects to the lock mechanism.( 2x 10mm bolts). Reassemble. Check the catch is working using the key when applying pressure inwards. In other words the parts are located correctly. Tighten up jubilee clip carefully until it collapses the tube slightly and grips the inner parts, whilst maintaining pressure inwards. The inner parts will no longer slide in and out. Jobs a good un.
  9. Hey Guys Car - Ford Focus CL 2008 I literally just need a plastic clip that fits the bonnet lock mechanism (the part the arrow points to the picture attached to this post). I don't want the entire pack which is $150 here in Australia. My parents live in the UK so I can organise postage if the part is located in Britain. For something that should be a few quid I don't want to pay through the nose for it. I have read the how to guide to fix the bonnet lock problem which helped me open the bonnet and by doing so I broken the clip with the prongs that the ball sits in which turns the lock. To clarify the arm part that attaches to the cylinder behind the ford badge is fine, its the clip that comes from the engine side which has snapped Any help much appreciated
  10. Alarm Problems

Hi I have had my bonnet mechanism replaced and my sub and amp wired up by a mechanic friend of mine on my 2006 Focus ST-3 . Since then I have had some issues with the alarm, it seems to be when people use their key fob to unlock when in close proximity to mine it sets my alarm off. Note: this only seems to happen if their vehicle is a Ford. I have been searching for various solutions to the problem for a little while now to no avail. I don't know whether it is something to do with the battery being left disconnected whilst the sound system was wired up? I would really appreciate any help or suggestions as this is driving me insane, as you could imagine! Thanks (First post!) Lee
  11. Hi there, like many others, bonnet open warning lamp on dashboard - am looking at replacing with a new switch...would like to know if a 'non-mechanic' like myself could do this. If so, where can I find the switch , any help much appreciated. Thanks.
  12. New member my first post and it's regarding my zetec s well it's a 5 door and I'm just wanting advice? Would bonnet vents look stupid on it because it's 5 door? It's white with tinted windows with white RS alloys
  13. Hi There!

Hi all, I am currently driving in a 1.3 Fiesta Finesse which I have had for just over a year and I'm just looking for some advice on things to do to my fiesta to make look a bit cooler and general up keeping of my wee ford. Thanks for reading!
  14. Mk6 Escort Gti Problems

So I'm new here and this is my first post. I just bought an Escort GTI mk6, a few little problems with it and hoping any of you guys could possibly help. It seems the previous owner has messed with the bonnet release catch and it's fallen off as soon as I've touched it. I have tried a screw driver under the gap I. The bonnet and tried getting the catch that way but the bonnet hasn't released and I can't seem to get to it from underneath either which is a pain. Sorry to be so long winded but the second problem is when I was I. The motorway for the first time in it and it was perfectly fine but the second time about half way through the journey when I go over about 4000 revs the acceleration stops almost like the clutch engages because you can smell it so just wondering if anyone knows what's up with it so on e again sorry for being so long winded for my first post!! Btw I am planning to get rid of the ghastly wheels on it haha
  15. Yay or nay guys? Heres the link. http://www.ebay.co.u...=item416ce756e7 I reckon this looks pretty good, would of rather had a curve in the middle to accommodate the ford badge but a simple mod at a decent price.
  16. The bonnet on my car will not close properly. I had to but a new catch (about £70) only two months ago and I'd probably only had the bonnet open twice since then before the current problem. I don't seem to be able to lock the car without having the alarm on and, of course, I am not popular with my neighbours. Ford dealer can't look at it for 6 days (!) so I decided that the interim solution was to remove the alarm fuse. This pagehttp://www.fordmondeo.auto-manual.org/fordmondeo-180.html or page 174 of this page http://www.scribd.com/doc/20516545/2008-Mondeo-Owner-manual point me to removing fuse FB10 but when I remove the trim in the boot (at the left hand side near the lights) then I don't get a triple headed fuse box - just something that looks like about one of those sections. [i'll add a photo tomorrow if this will help.] Any ideas? a) how to sort catch B) how to lock car without alarm activated (don't expect so from my investigations) or c) what the fuse situation is. Many thanks in advance David
  17. Hello everyone. Two issues I've come across yesterday. Firstly how the hell do you get the little damn clips back into the fuel return pipes? i had the whole pipes changed to stop diesel leaking and just cannot get my finger in there properly to push the clips back in. already lost 2 clips which ill have to pop the under-tray off to get back. it seems to be alright to drive without the clips as its already secured with just the plugs. Secondly. i have noticed that sometimes the boot latch fails to open. if i turn the key to the 1 position, nothing would happen until i keep it in 1 and give a hard tap around the mechanism area which would pop it out of the first latch, then it would also be a struggle trying to open the second latch but eventually after some pulling around i can get it open. the first latch seems to work fine when i manually click it back to the position it would be when its closed, and turning the key to 1 would pop the latch open. and for the number 2 latch it wouldn't travel all the way to the end so its sort of stops half way which doesn't give it enough space for the bonnet to go through. What type of spray can i use to make the latches more springy? i tried silicone paste but it doesn't seem to do much effect or would i need to replace the part? Many thanks for any replies.
  18. Urgent Help Needed Please!

I am hoping that someone out there can PLEASE help me? I bought a 2008 Mondeo Zetec 1.8 TDCi (6 speed) from a used car dealership 2 months ago. To cut a long story short, the car has been back into the garage on numerous occasions for a couple of different faults (air con not working, car wouldn't start first time when turning key) and today a mass of white smoke came out from the rear of the car whilst driving along the motorway at 60mph. When I pulled in and lifted the bonnet there was (what I can only describe as) an explosion of liquid (see attached photo) Whether this is oil, water or coolant, I don't know as I'm not mechanically minded. I was able to drive the car 2 miles to the garage as I was in the area but wouldn't have liked to have driven it further! It did seem to takes for the engine to cool when I stopped after it happened! My problem is, knowing how useless the garage has been to date with previous issues with this car, they will take ages to find and rectify this fault, so I am asking for any ideas as to what may have happened so I can hopefully speed up the process of getting my fixed and back in my possession (on one occasion they had the car for 10 days and had to send it out to another garage to fix because they didn't know how to fix it!) I have attached a photo of what the engine area looked like when I dropped the car off today and would truly appreciate any help as to what this may be. Many thanks in advance. Les Johnson.

Hi, I know this probably sounds like a silly question but i have just purchased my Ford Streetka, I wasn't given the manual. Does anyone have any idea on how to open the bonnet, I cant seem to find the lever that i have generally had with previous cars. I would be so grateful if anyone could give me the answer! Thanks Emily
