  1. Hi all, Going to attempt to install this bad boy in the Fiesta this weekend in order to regain heating in the cabin! (I've had to stop using the car it's so cold!). From what I understand it is a very good idea to drain the coolant out first so that the pipes and valve aren't full of coolant when you take them off. Is it enough to disconnect the bottom rad hose, empty coolant into a container etc and then flush through with a garden hose, or should I take the engine block drain plug out too? Then to refill, pour in the coolant expansion tank and squeeze hoses to make sure there's no air locks? I've found TK42138's channel on Youtube very helpful as he has video'd most stages of the process but just want to make sure I'm aware of everything I need to be before I empty my system of coolant and get into any difficulties filling it back up again! I can take pics of my process too if people would be interested in a visual step by step? Cheers Tom  
  2. I have a Ford Focus Zetec 2008 with the Sat Nav radio upgrade in it and I'm looking to swap it out for the Pioneer SPH-DA120 (but am open to options). Just looking for some tips on the things I may need to get this fitted, I know this is a double DIN aftermarket radio so I'm assuming I will need to buy a new fascia panel as well as a new cage(?). Does anyone know the type/how to find the type of kit that would make the current steering wheel stalk controls compatible with these aftermarket radios? I see Halford's offer a couple but are simply labelled "ford", are they compatible with all/most models or will I have to find a specific version for my car? Any tips on what to look for here? The current fascia panel I'm looking at is this but I'm going to check to see if the current cage is compatible that houses the Ford one at the moment to see if I can just get the plastic font part instead of the entire cage. Long shot: The sat nav directions from the current Ford radio come up on the centre of my dashboard (a distance to the next turn, an arrow and a road name) as well as on the screen itself, is there anyway I can get this back with an aftermarket system? (I'm assuming not). Thank for your help! Aaron
  3. Hi, Bought a 2003 Ka Collection 4 weeks ago, lots of tyre noise but generally sound and clean. I need a little advice on that perennial problem, the heater. The coolant was rusty so flushed and new antifreeze mix put in, also a new header tank as the old one was starting to split but not leak. Before I got it a new thermostat was fitted in June. When changing from cold to hot on the control it gets warm but nowhere near hot which suggests the control valve is working. Is this a reasonable assumption or could it be partially working? As the coolant was rusty could the matrix be blocked? If so is it easy to remove and flush? I'm waiting for a Haynes manual but before it arrives any advice or hints on how to remove the matrix would be appreciated. Many thanks
  4. Heater Stuck On Cold

    Hi All, Focus 2002 1.6 Ghia saloon Petrol. The temperature control knob was stuck on cold, I physically could not move it across to hot. I thought it might be a broken/seized/kinked cable but when I took the cable off at the knob and at the drivers feet I could see that it works fine. With the cable removed (red arrow below) I can see/feel that the little black knob it attaches to (green arrow below) is stuck and will not move. Does anyone know what I can try next. I've read elsewhere that the "Blend door" could be stuck. Anyone know where this is or how I can get at it to perhaps manually move it to warm? (It's getting pretty cold out now!). Should I try and remove the white piece in the picture below? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
  5. First this, I've got a Ford Focus 1.6 Setec S What are these wires for? When trying to find a AUX input on my car I came across these wires. They fit to the back of the button board below the Clumate control/ above the 12V plug. I've tried looking for pictures of other models and the only buttons I can find are, passenger air bag, or central locking? Can someone confirm what they are, and if it would be possible to buy a button and then have the car feature. Thank you:)

  7. hi everybody, i know this has been brought up 100's of times. I Drive a 2002 1.8 tddi focus and my heater doesnt work. in more detail, i first noticed it a few weeks ago when driving through france, it was 34 degrees and when i pullled into a services the fan was rad running for 3 or 4 minutes when i pulled up. i was thinking with the heat that is out there it must be getting hot, so when i left the services i dropped my windows and put on the hot air, which stopped working after a minute, and only came back at a services. Thermostat so i assumed it was a thermostat stuck open, so i changed it, problem seemed to go away but after a long drive it came back, fan running again when i came into a services, and no hot air..... this time it was 2 degrees outside, Airlock, Im thinking an airlock is in the system but i cant seem to find it, also my thermostat seems to be allowing hot water through it the whole time so maybe the new stat is screwed again. all help appreciated guys
  8. Hi Guys, I have 2 problems to which I hope here can help me sort and I hope this thread might help someone else. I have a Ford Focus MK1 1.6 Zetec (engine pictured below). My problem No.1 is it idle's on the 700-750rpm line and kinda shakes the cabin more than it should, it feels wrong and sometimes hunts for idle. Problem No.2 when i turn things like the light, blowers and front/back heated windscreen the revs drop to about 650 and shake the car considerable more to a point where you think it might stall but never does. Too be clear, my car does not have a MAF sensor. I have changed: - Idle valve sensore - Throttle position sensor - Coil Pack and leads I have checked: - PVC/breather valve hoses into the T and all is good - All hoses involved in air intake for a potential vacuum leak. I also used carb cleaner to spray every area to see if revs increase with no luck. - Battery/alternator connections wiggled and everything. - Earth connections cleaned. At the moment I can't find anything with anything but I did check battery voltage at Idle. Voltage at idle - 14.3V Voltage at idle with front electric windscreen heater on - 12.5V Not sure if this is a problem as when I rev the car the voltage increases with the heaters/lights on from 12.5V plus past 14V, any one have a view on this? Could the culprit be all along the alternator? Next actions - Apparently the PCV valve can cause this if broke, anyone have a view on this? Im also gonna do a ECU reset. Disconnect batt for 20 mins, let it idle for 20 mins then drive for 5 miles. I heard this works. One last thing is Ford do a ECU update to sort this out people say, is this BULL???? One thing to add my exhaust does have a blow but i don't think this will cause any of the above. If anyone has any ideas/experiences or tips please share I would be very appreciative.   9. Mk5 Heat Problem

    I've heard and read that fiesta MK4 and MK5s can have a heat problem with either hot or cold constantly feeding through and not being able to change the temperature. Mine is doing the exact same. It's feeding through constant hot air. After having read a solution, I thought it could be a thermostat problem. The guy I bought the car from told me he'd already changed that not so long before I bought the car and it was bought in March. I then read it could be a heater control valve problem. I changed the heater control valve and it worked! For a day or two... No I'm slightly stumped as to what next to look for. I don't believe it could be the matrix. I don't think there is a blockage anywhere otherwise it wouldn't have worked as soon as it was swapped. I'm reluctant to think its the connection as I checked that while swapping over the HCV and it seemed OK. Plus, it wasn't all that long ago. There's definitely no Leaks. The head gasket hasn't gone and its not on its way out. A few people had mentioned the heater control panel might be an issue. The fans are working on all settings but there's no wires running from the temperature knob. It's all running from the fan switch, the bottom of the PCB board and the 12v power supply. I don't think it could be the HCP neither becauxe it was working g when the HCV was swapped over. And I'm sure the wiring is normal anyhow. Has anyone got any ideas? I've searched all over this forum and I can't seem to find the answer. I'd rather not take it tons mechanic and part with my money haha. Thanks guys.
  10. Hi all, I purchased a 59 plate ka mk2 at the weekend and noticed tonight that the temp and fan controls don't light up on the centre console. I'm assuming that this isn't normal? Do I need to replace the heater control unit? Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks
  11. Hello! Recently purchased a 2002 KA however the heater blowers have stopped working? Nothing at all is coming out it's like it's lost power. The obvious thing I've checked first is the fuse top right green 30 amp, the old one wasn't blown but changed it anyway to see if it made any different, but no luck. Just wondering if anyone has any ideas before I take it into a garage. Hoping there might be something simple i could try first. Thank you for taking the time to read! C

Please don't waste your money and buy from ebay I made this mistake buy from Fords Even my car is old it is reregistered disabled so Fords gave me a price then I asked for the 20% V.A.T off man looked confused as long as the car is reregistered disabled and I buy the part from Fords it is exempt from the 20% and presto got the 20% off Car is nice and cold again will never buy from ebay again but did get my money back from the seller in full

    Can someone please please save my sanity and point me in the right direction to sort my mk4 electrics out Firstly the central locking just clicks and doesn't engage,I've locked at both motors and they both appear to move/be working Secondly the heater control/blower doesn't work ie it doesn't blow Help me please before I go mad!!!!
  14. Cannot now seem to change blower direction from screen to other directions (face or feet) - although at very rare times it works OK. Seems to be a pneumatic control system - as I can hear some vague hissing at times, and have seen small plastic tubes behind control knob. I guess something is sticking or jammed at the heater end. Ideas most welcome. Thanks. Nick.
  15. Hi, I purchased my Focus Mk2 last month and it has been running fine with no problems. I noticed last week that my fan carried on running when I turned the engine off due to it overheating - there wasn't any coolant left so i topped it up and all was well for another couple of days... Again it ran out of coolant yesterday and i found a leak in the joins of the pipes that supply the heater matrix behind the panel in the driver foot well. Having replaced the o rings and resealing it seemed to stop the leak in this please BUT there is now a MAJOR leak in the heater matrix which is draining the whole coolant around in around 1 minute. In short i can get hold of a new heater matrix relatively easy, but how hard are they to fit? anyone have step by step? I have heard you have to take the whole dash out and garages can quote 400+ for this to be done - which funds will not allow! I have also seen that you can cut the plastic cover for the heater matrix and get it out this way is this true? Help with this ASAP is required as i am without a car until this is sorted!!!!
  16. Focus - Auxillary Heater

    Newbie here. I bought a focus 1.8tdci just a few weeks ago and this is my view from behind the steering wheel. Obviously i dont want to know constantly that my aux heater is off and i would much rather see my mileage and trip. I can do this by pressing the button on the stalk but i would much rather this go away. Any ideas?

I bought replacement dials for the heater controls managed to get the first one off (fan speed) by prising with a screwdriver now the problem is that the dials can only go on one way and the new one points to 0 when it's 4 then blank plastic for the others (3,2,1,0) - can you change the start position of the plastic bit connected to the heater unit? Or do I have to put up with it pointing to the wrong number / no number? Also I'm really struggling to get the middle dial (temperature) and end dial (where the air is pointing) off... Managed to snap a piece off but not pull them out so any tips there would be appreciated. Thanks, tess

    Hi all, I'm having trouble with my 2006 focus zetec and wondering if anyone here would have any ideas as to a remedy? Started car this morning and the outside temp reading shows nothing along with the window wash water not spraying for front and rear window and the heater is completely dead not a tick out of it? I looked in manual for fuse that might cover all three but I can't see one or even a fuse for each?? Any help would be great. Thanks Ant.
  19. As the title says, I have a 2007 S-Max Titanium TDCi and the heater doesn't want to work below 60mph. Around town and on B-roads it blows out cold air but as soon as I'm on an A-road or a motorway and doing 60-70mph it heats up. Any ideas what is wrong with it? Cheers!
  20. My dad has just got a mk7.5 titanium & under his central heater control he has a digital read-out. On my mk7 zetec I have a black space-saver which looks like a card holder.. I was wondering if anybody has managed to do anything productive with it, along with any other interior detail modifications alike?
  21. hi all, my heater blower has just stopped on all 4 numbers, everything has been checked with electric tester and even had the fan out and wired it to the battery and worked fine the resister seemed fine also the plugs and all fusses it just seems that when you turn the blower on theres no power to the moter to make it work, baffling, regards

Hi, I'm a new member here, and fairly unaccustomed to forum sites, so apologies if I've posted this in the wrong place etc, but I am at my wits end trying to figure out what's wrong with my car and figured I'd seek out help from the experts :) I've got a streetka 1.6 duratec and recently its been giving me a lot of trouble. About 6 weeks ago, as I was driving to work, I noticed steam coming from the bonnet and a familiar coolant smell and so I stopped the car and noticed the thermostat housing had broken and was leaking all the coolant out. As it was a small leak, I let the car cool and limped it to a garage 2 miles away after topping it up with water (I had no breakdown cover) and the garage replaced the faulty thermostat housing, but advised that the cooling system was pressurising, which could mean other problems. From this point, I noticed that the heaters in the car were intermittent in supplying hot air, when the temp dial was set to hot. Now, just over a month later, driving along, I notice steam again, and the coolant smell and this time the leak was bigger than before - the pipes that lead into and out of the heater control valve had somehow become brittle and snapped off. I stopped immediately and called the AA who did a temp repair to get me to the garage - they bypassed the control valve and topped me up with water. Upon the AA patrol leaving, and me heading toward a garage, I noticed it struggled to reach 40mph on the dual carriageway and was essentially misfiring badly. Again, I limped it to the garage who replaced the heater control valve with a euro car parts item and replaced the coil pack, which has for now cured the misfire. Why the misfire/coilpack issue happened just as the coolant issue happened, I don't know, maybe this is related? Again, the cooling system was pressurising for ages before my mechanic said he managed to get it to settle and he said drive it a few days with just water in to see how it gets on and if its okay, we'll drain and refill with antifreeze. The past few days, I've done just that and it seems fine - except the heaters now would only blow cold air regardless of heat setting! I thought it was maybe the heater switch control panel, so I borrowed an old switch from a 1.3 ka and plugged it in to check if this was the case - and still cold air. I replaced my old heater control panel in the car and the next day, somehow all I get now is hot air! What is going on with this car? I'm worried about the next time something blows on this thing now and don't feel assured of taking it on a long journey. On a side note, since I've owned the car, the fan always seems to kick in early and then stays constantly on, even in cold weather. The temp light never comes on, which leads me to think that the car isn't overheating. It has only come on once, which is the first incident when the thermostat housing went. Sorry for the long essay, I thought it best to comprehensive about the problem. Any help is appreciated guys! Aman

    Hi I'm new on here, and I really hope somebody can help me. Basically, I've got a 2008 (old shape) Mk6 Fiesta, ztec climate, 1.25. Anyway, last week I started having a problem where I would turn the dial to move the fan / heater blower direction to the windscreen, feet, face, etc, and it would just click and not actually change. it works some of the time and just gets stuck then. So I investigated, unfortunately its not the springy cable thing that's at fault. I traced it back, and there's a white cog... which connects to a black cog... that has somehow gotten damaged. please see the photo. its the black cog on the left. does anyone know how I can replace this cog? what is the part called that it goes into? Ive been told I might need to replace the whole entire part... but I've got no idea what the part is called, I've googled until I'm blue in the face! Anyone with any idea about this I'll be so grateful for any advice! thanks.

    Hi there. Wonder if anyone can help. I have a 1999 mondeo mk2 my heater only blows on screen no matter what direction I put it. I have vacum to the switches and all other pipes seam clean now after removing some blue green gunk. Don't know what else to check. Pollen filter is ok. I brought a second hand switch but no different. Could that be faulty as well. Please if any one can help I would much appreciate it. Many thanks.

    Hi Hoping to pick someone's brain as the situation is dreadful with certain aspects of my wife's ST, so have come her hoping for advice please guys. The heater only works when set at #4 regardless of cold or hot selected. The heater only pushes out cold or hot air to the windscreen regardless of where the dial is positioned such as towards the floor. Wow there is a dreadful squeak coming from the rear have tried to diagnose where it is but cant pin point it. Initially thought it was the exhaust rubbers, but have been under and gave it a good shake but nothing. Its much louder and annoying when you start to pick up speed. Also oil warning light comes on periodically the just goes off. But I know there is oil in there as checked the Dip, I suspect a sensor of some sort but looked for a clip on YouTube but nothing. Guys any feedback greatly appreciated as she has my ear-hole bout it all the time... Nice one
