  1. I've had the car about 4 years & not really done much to it other than an EGR blank & servicing (until this week).  This week I decided it was time for a change, below is a list of what I've got done so far in the last 3 days: Wrapped as much of the front interior as I can (easier said than done for some parts) so that's: The 4 satin steel steering wheel trims Single DIN head unit fascia Upper centre console Gearshift fascia Handbrake fascia Foot well lower trims Lower centre console including the rear "cubby hole" Fitted a single DIN Sony head unit with Bluetooth Fitted the external mic & route the cable out of sight Fitted a new chrome & leather gearshift gaiter & surround Replaced the tatty black gear knob with a nice silver one from a Mondeo Replaced all the accessible interior lighting with "white" LEDs Replaced the number plate bulbs with "white" LEDs (integrated resistors because the previous set flickered like a B**CH) Replaced the brake & reverse lights with CREEs (hint the reverse lights now illuminate the kerbside like sidelights which makes parallel parking/reversing at night without clouting the alloys a whole lot easier) Replaced the main beam & side lights with nice "white" ones (side lights are LED) Replaced the single light bulb in the glovebox Replaced the single light blun in the boot with 3 "white" LED pads (I had to wire resistors to ensure there was enough load to stop them flickering, so they're not a bright as they were originally but at least now they won't give someone a epileptic fit!) Unfortunately I didn't think to take "before" photos although I'm sure everyone here knows what the inside of a MK2 looks like & how crap the standard "yellow" interior lighting is along with "real" wood effect plastic trim!! To get a bit of practice with the wrapping I bought some unbranded (cheap) carbon wrap on ebay & had 4 goes at the centre console before I was happy that I'd got half an idea what I was doing.  From Friday night onwards I've pretty much worked non stop on the car, I removed the entire centre console (head unit console, surround, gearshift fascia, handbrake fascia, footwell trims & the main centre console with the cup holders etc) & got to work wrapping.  The final wrap material I used is 3M 1080 which is what the wrapping specialists use & there is a MAJOR difference in quality.  If you're thinking of going for the carbon fiber vinyl look, once you've had a good practice with the cheap stuff, don't be cheap get the good stuff, it's even got the tactile finish to it i.e. it's not a flat print & is much more resistant to being overstretched.  Unfortunately it seems to be pretty much impossible to wrap the bottom centre console itself due it's shape (6 different wrapping specialist confirmed that they can't wrap it).  I'm really happy with the end result although I am thoroughly sick of the sight of carbon fiber wrap, lol!  I've still got the 3 screw covers for the foot well trims to wrap but that should only take 15 minutes or so (but not today). I replaced the rather poor Ford Transit style head unit with a single DIN Sony with Bluetooth & fitted the external mic with the cable routed out of sight but once again forgot to take pictures as I went along  (removing the front A pillar trim was a bit of pain but I managed it without breaking any clips so I'm happy with that) I've also replaced the brake & reversing exterior bulbs with CREE LED's & all the user accessible interior bulbs including the glove box light (i.e. not the SMDs in the door controls etc) with "white" LED's (I'll take pictures tonight of the lights - & yes I know the car needs a good wipe down/vacuuming)  I'm really happy with things so far.  I've also removed my EGR blank & booked in for a Terraclean on Thursday so i'll be sure to post back with the results. My plans between now & 3 months time when I get my annual bonus are: Upgraded climate control dials (like Lenny's) 2 new front wings (rust bubble central) New mud flaps all round Strip back both sills to the metal Colour code the fog light front bumper strips Respray for the bonnet, wings, sills (all the way up to door seals) & all 4 doors so hopefully I should have nice "shinee" front end. On an unrelated note I can thoroughly recommend Nokian Weatherproof tyres for snow & wet weather driving (Auto Express weren't wrong when they rated them 100% for snow/rain).  I had 2 fitted on the front in January for the MOT & I've given them a thorough thrashing in the recent weather, despite the big heavy lump up front (the engine not me)  the front end has a lovely positive turn in, even in heavy rain.  Not something I could say about the Chinese "ditchfinders" I had on previously.  Feel free to comment, any suggestions etc are very welcome, if I can give anyone else any help I'll be more than happy to.
  2. was wondering if anyone knew how to keep the footwell lights on when your driving the car in question is a mk7.5 black edtiom
  3. Mk2.5 to mk2 rear lights

I am wanting smoked rear lights to my mk2.5 focus, and all the better looking units ive found are apparently for the mk2. Do these fit? They look VERY similar! Thanks
  4. Hi guys,  new on here so any help i sappreciated. Bought a Focus st and few minor issues Firstly electric mirrors do not work at all Secondly interior lights do not come on when i open the doors (switch is in correct position) Rear interior lights do not come on either at all, even when i switch on manually (fitted new bulbs) 12volt also doesnt work (prob just a fuse though) Thanks for the help
  5. Hi Guys I have just had to use my rear fogs since i purchased my car last year on returning from a journey i noticed the lefthand/nearside one was not lit reading on talkford forum it appears there was a change from Mk3 twin rear fogs to Mk3.5 single rear fog, if that is the case, is there any parts i can purchase to bring it back to twin rear fogs, it looks stupid with a red lens cover on thaf side if not working or in use, please advise if anybody has done this conversion and any part numbers used ??, best of the 2016 season to all fellow members huey45
  6. It is interesting how many Fusions have bad water ingress in the rear lights. Mine is a 2009 with water in both, despite sealing the bulbholder and everything else. Looking at Ebay and scrap yards I've found most of them to be the same when you ask or examine on a wet day. Even a 2011 car with water in both lights. Is it a manufacturing problem as a local dealer said he had replaced stacks of them. Nice, as they are £100 each inc fitting or £75 if you do it yourself, and only a 12 months warranty. I have had cars all my life and never any water ingress, only plastic fading on son's 2001 car. The Fusion lights must be badly designed or very cheaply made!
  7. 2.0 Tdci "surging"

My 2007 TCDI 2.0 Mondeo has done 130,000 miles & generally runs without a problem. However, on zero or a very light throttle it seems to surge ie seems to accelerate fractionally, then not, then on again etc. Pehaps 2 or 3 seconds between on & off if you see what I mean. It's just not as smooth as it used to be at very light throttle settings. It won't be a blocked DPF as I regularly drive a decent distance at high speed. I also take it to the red line (with a warm engine) every few weeks & get some smoke, which quickly clears. I did these things before I noticed the surging issue. Can anyone please give me some guidance here? Thanks Paul
  8. Hi all, I need to get my rear and front fogs working for the MOT test but for the life of me I can find the fuse for either and nothing is mentioned in the fuses section under fuses, can anyone help? Not sure if relevant but the light on the button for rear fogs doesn't illuminate when pressed however the front fogs button does. But as I said neither front nor back fogs light up! I even checked every fuse on the relay panel and they're all fine. I did see a fault diagnostic page for a streetka which mentioned [CHECK fuse F27 (20 A) (CJB).] http://workshop-manuals.com/ford/streetka_2003.5_01.2003-07.2005/mechanical_repairs/4_electrical/417_lighting/417-01_exterior_lighting/description_and_operation/diagnosis_and_testing/fog_lamps_vehicles_built_up_to_02-2005_convertible/#G325486p1 Does' anyone know if such a fuse exists on the streetka? And if so where it would be located?
  9. Fitting St Rear Bumper

Hi Everyone, think the forum is fantastic and you guys certainly know your stuff, found so much info that has helped me so much, its been a god send. I am a newbie on here but was hoping that you guys may be able to give me some advice. I bought a new focus 2.0 titanium tdci and loved the inside and spec, (previously owned a mk1 and then a mk 1.5.) I don't want to offend anyone but the outside of the mk2 in my opinion was a bit of a disappointment did not like all the black plastic lower bumpers- so started off colour coding. Then coming across this place I started to get the urge to take things a little further so along came a set of ST alloys, then decided to get the Side skirts , and then the front bumper and now just collected a complete rear bumper. Which brings me to my question. Sorry I do tend to babble a bit. On the current bumper I have the reverse sensors but on the St bumper there is no holes I have seen the guides on here and also noticed the guides on the inside for drilling but was wondering will the existing sensors come out of the original bumper and be able to use them on the ST one? I did have the panel off for spraying but did not really pay much attention to them. Or will I need to buy any brackets etc. With the weather being so bad I don't really want to take the panel off until I have finished spraying the ST bumper and ready to fit the new bumper. Thanks for any advice you can give me. :)
  10. Hello there, I hope not to get stoned for repeating questions as I am sure what I write here has been covered already. I have done my browsing on here and I think I have some of the answers but I would like to get the full picture so please bear with me. After a long period of driving Japanese I ended up having a 2005 Focus Estate with a 1.6 TI-VCT engine. I have had it for a good week now and as far as I can tell after about 500 miles I like it. When I bought it the coolant temperature guage was suspiciously steady at 60 C even after 15-20 miles. I think I should have thought of the obvious why the previous owner parted with it. I suspect my thermostat is stuck open or semi open. The tests I have done so far: Set the on-board computer to show the engine temperature ( I hope I am right saying this shows the cylinder head temperature) started the engine and put my hand on the radiator. Started with the radiator being cool and the temperature in it started to build up very quickly , although the engine temperature was only showing about 86-88 degree C. The coolant temperature gauge was still on 60 degree C. Then I spent another 20 mins sitting on 1500RPM (still on the drive) to get the engine temperature up to 120-125 degree C. At this point the coolant temperature guage had reached around 80 degree C. I carried on warming the engine to test if the fan was working as I had never heard it come on before. About 10 minutes later at around 142-143 degree C I finally could hear the sound so the fan was working. At this point the coolant gauge was just under 90 (ever so slightly before the middle mark) so I guess the gauge is not the most accurate as people here say the fan is set to come on around 100 C. I also took the car out for a drive a day later. I drove 20 miles to see what would happen under life like conditions with the computer set to show the engine temperature. I was doing a mixed drive, revving the cr@p out of it as well as go as slow as possible and the engine temperature just would not get over 80 degree C. I could only push it over when I rolled onto the drive and let the engine run for a few more minutes. The other thing I think my be a give away (I might be wrong) that from Peterborough to Birmingham and back with no traffic issues I could do near enough steady 65-70mph and the coolant guage would not move from 60 C and my mpg when I refilled the car worked out only to be 32-33mpg (around 8.8 l/ 100km). I would have expected more on a long run, given that the temperature was relatively mild at the weekend. The car pulls OK otherwise and does not judder or misfire. One strange thing I think is also worth mentioning that when I checked the engine temperature from home to work this morning upon turning the key to the second position whilst holding the trip computer button and selecting the engine temperature the starting temperature was about 43 degree C. I found it a bit odd as the car had not been driven since the evening before. I would have expected it to be around 10 C , same as the air temperature. Here are my questions: 1. Do you guys think it could be thermostat or is it something else? 2. Is it possible that my temperature sensors are not working or giving false reading? 3. Where is the coolant temperature sensor situated in my focus? 4.What temperature does the engine temperature sensor actually measures? Is it the cylinder head? 5. What is the usual operating temperature measured by the engine temperature sensor ? 6. At what temperature folks would you expect the thermostat to open and let coolant go to the radiator? 7. What is the temperature set point for the radiator fan? Is it 140 +/- 5 degree C of the engine temperature or is it the coolant at 90 -/+ 5 degree C? 8. Which temperature sensor feeds the ECU (PCM)? And would the ECU give the signal to the gauge on the dash or would it be a separare unit? Sorry for the lenghty post, I am new to cars although have been driving for 15 years but only just recently started to show interest in how they actually work. Thanks in advance! Pete

  15. Hi all, I have recently purchased some upgrade l.e.d tail light units from ford. Took 4 weeks to arrive as ford didn't have them in stock, this is very true as the manufacture date on the units is dated 8 days after my placement of order last month. Guide now available in PDF Format see link: http://www.fordownersclub.com/forums/topic/62561-guide-fitting-ford-rs-led-rear-light-units-focus-mk25-pdf/ Tools Required: 1 x Philips head screwdriver 1 x socket driver 1 x Torx T25 Screw driver bit so in the big box we find two smaller box's with ford fitting instructions, These units are very light weight at only 2.4kg including packaging. Ford instructions are not very helpfull as you can see below lol So let's see what's inside the inner box's To my surprise they are supplied with bulbs, But I don't like the fried egg effect of the indicator bulbs so I'm immediately fitting some silvatec BA++ offset bulbs. Before: After: Much better :) As above images only opposite side, If purchasing these from a breakers or ebay; you can strike lucky and pick up a bargin as some sellers are not aware of the l.e.d units value. Such as this seller: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Ford-Focus-ST-3-59-reg-3-door-O-S-rear-light-drivers-side-rear-offside-gen-ford-/221224879856? pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item338207c6f0 Notice the difference in the lens; the ford l.e.d unit has straight lines etched on the lens. The standard dual filament bulb units have a diamond etched lens.
  16. Hi, I have a 2007 Transit Connect Torneo LHD, I had a problem with the n/s/r stop and tail lamp connections, they kept touching when the bulb was inserted and blowing the fuse, unfortunately when I tried to move the contacts on one occasion I had left the lights on, this caused something to blow, not the fuse that had blown previously, I now can't find any fuse that is blown and I have now side lights. Any ideas please. Cheers Steve
  17. Hi, I've just acquired a Smax and found the reversing lights do not work. the lamps are good and the reversing camera and parking sensors work. I linked out the switch wire at the gearbox and the camera came on and sensors worked. I thought maybe a fuse, but the reversing lights are on with the raising headlights and that's work also. I'm a bit stumped as to what to check next. Any ideas please????
  18. Hi guys hoping one of you may be able to help me. I've read a few threads on here about problems with interior lights stopping working for no apparent reason but none of them seem to have the solution on them. So today all my interior lights have stopped working. They were fine this morning but tonight nothing. No boot light, no rear interior light, no front interior light no map lights. Strange. So obviously first thought is "ahh the fuse has gone." Get out the handbook, guess what, you got it no fuse is listed for interior lights? Only one that remotely could be is fuse 1 which includes a dome light? whatever that is but also controls the ignition and heated windscreen which both work fine so can't be that one. Some threads mention that there is no fuse for this circuit which is a little odd. Of course it's pitch black as well so I can't easily start checking every damn fuse in the fuse box to try identify the little blighter so I'm hoping someone knows? If there genuinely isn't a fuse how the hell do you get them to work again or am I destined to pay several pounds to my dealer to get such a simple problem fixed. Also I've realised my offside headlight has stopped working tonight as well. Can't be a coincidence can it? There's no fuse for them listed other than the full sides exterior lights and the DRL and rear light work fine. Could just be the bulb but I don't believe in coincidences so any help will be appreciated. Frustrated fez owner!!!!!!
  19. Lights And Lorries

Now the dark nights are on us and with the clocks going back the hour last week. Why is it if I put on my lower fog lights ( I know FOG Lights are for Fog only )for a bit of extra illumination and the local traffic officers are around I get stopped, and warned about using fog lights and run the risk of a fine, Yet I`ve seen numerous lorries lite up like a Christmas tree with lights and lights in there cabs of all colours yet nothing is said to them ?. Fair enough I would`nt like a lorry to be just running on side lights as this could be dangerous .But some of them driving along the motorway especially on the opposite carriage way can be a distraction. Opinions anyone ? And I`ve already said I know your lower fog lights should only be used in fog ,but surely every bit of light helps. Oh on that note ,Followed a car on my way to work .No Rear lights at all ,Flashed the driver 3 times no response ,Finally pulled along side it at the lights and got them to drop there window .Told them they had No rear lights and the response was .Well they are automatic and come on by themselves ?. Well its dark and they haven`t .Oh and it was a female driver . Glad I was going in the opposite direction
  20. Hiya I have just brought a Fiesta Zetec S 2007 Model and I am trying to work out what bulbs I need for the rear drivers side brake light and for the central high level brake light? If anyone could tell me which bulbs to buy for each brake light that would be brillant Thanks in advance
  21. Hi I'm new to the forum so be nice lol, Just orderd my new red edition and will be picking it up on Monday/Tuesday!!!! Dealer told me it's the new "16" model and has drl's and new rear lights, along with a colour screen and a new net pocket!!(didn't get that one). Can anyone shed any light on this or even better have any pictures of the new changes? Cheers
  22. Okay so on my travels through the world wide inter-web thingy I have stumbled across some cheap parts for what could be an interesting retrofit project. Basically the components to create puddle lights in the wing mirrors as follows: http://www.fordpartsuk.com/shop/ford_focus_door_mirror_puddle_lamp_wire_2007_f_4506924_c_683.htm http://www.fordpartsuk.com/shop/ford_focus_door_mirror_puddle_lamp_rh_2009_f_1675129_c_683.htm http://www.fordpartsuk.com/shop/ford_focus_door_mirror_puddle_lamp_lh_2009_f_1675130_c_683.htm The cost works out at £25. I can imagine it requires the mirror unit to be removed to cut out the hole, then running some wires to the control unit. I have noticed before that there is a square marked out on the underside of the unit for the puddle light unit so would just be following the lines. Any feedback welcome, not sure if I will go along with this, but as money is tight and I really want to have a go at some sort of car based cheapish project. if those words can be used in the same sentence :P
  23. I've a Focus 1.6 tdci 2009 and I have a big triangle light up filling the whole display say 'Engine Malfunction' The car seems to be running fine and the engine sounds like it always did! I wondering why this light has come on and what I can do about it!
  24. Ford Fiesta MK7 - Fly eye tint on lights

New to forum, not long had my fiesta, put fly eye on lights, wasn't easy, few creases, but not a bad job for first time. The shape of the lights is a pain!! Show me yours.

  25. Hoping someone can help with this annoying issue. Recently, and more obviously when cold, I have been getting a jerky/juddering sensation in the car when idle. On startup, the revs sit for a second or so just under 1000, then drop a bit and then the juddering starts. The jumpyness goes when you give it a bit of right foot, say up to 1200-1500. It seems that often this will disappear after the car has warmed up/by the end of a journey, but sometimes it continues this throughout a journey and you notice it when sat at lights, junctions etc. There has also been a whining noise when accelerating though the low gears for the past few weeks. From reading around this could perhaps be the alternator or belt tensioner pulley. At night when idling the interior lights and headlights, as well as the backlights of the stereo, buttons etc will flicker. It had a new injector a few months ago which significantly reduced the rough idle from the compression loss etc. and a Terraclean 2 weeks ago.
