  1. My 60 Focus 1.6d is Cat D repaired.60k Light damage on near side arch. Car has excessive road noise compared with my Mondeo. Noise increases with speed and stays the same even in neutral / clutch pressed and engine revs down to tick over whilst driving. Have replaced wheel bearing (not much improvement) and steering rack end (bent loose slight improvement). I best describe this as transmission / diff whine but again going into neutral / pressing clutch makes no difference, above 70 or hard acceleration its drowned out by wind / engine revs... Definitely not turbo as not related to engine speed. any ideas what could be wrong? I don't mind spending on the car as it's nice.. Update Mondeo needs top end rebuild its going to be an expensive month...
  2. Hello, small issue i have had for a while on my 13 plate ZS is when braking from high speeds theres some sort of knocking on the front wheels. It's not there when normal driving not even under heavy braking but say i gradually slow from 60 mph i get the knocking and gets slower as i slow down and when down to around 5mph the sound is really quite loud. Sound instantly stops when i release the brakes. Thanks for any feedback. Ryan.
  3. Annoying road / wheel noise (CC3)

Hi all. I've got a couple of annoying noises that I was wondering if anyone could identify on my 2008 Focus CC3. The most worrying is a loud high pitch humming sound that starts at about 65mph get louder and then vanishes  when I go over 70 it seems to resonate through the whole car. I'm thinking it's either going to be tyre noise or wheel bearings but I'm not sure. It doesn't seem to change when I steer (which I would assume that bearing would do)  The other noise is a pretty annoying vibrating / rattle that seems to be coming from around where the driver seatbelt comes out from the interior trim. The kicker being that the first noise seems to exacerbate the rattle through some kind of sympathetic vibration and I end up in a rattling howling mess when Im at motorway speed.   Anyone got any ideas as to 1 what the first noise might be and 2 how to fix the annoying interior rattle?
  4. So, here's the story in a nutshell. I have my 1L (125) Zetec S for a good couple of months now, which was purchased new end of last year. In the past weeks/month I started to hear a creaking noise when depressing the clutch / gas pedal when the car is in gear, any only when it's in gear (most audible when in lower gears). This mainly happens when the car is cold and after about half an hour or an hour, the noise fades away. During that time the noise can be lower or higher, and if you listen to radio you can barely hear it, but since I know what I need to look for I can kind of hear it whatever and whenever. Been to Ford twice, once they sprayed some WD40 at it, but it didn't make a difference, the other time they didn't do a single thing, just kept me waiting for 1.5 hour (dash cam is my friend), will put a complaint letter together soon to that lovely branch. Obviously, I've searched the whole internet and it seems some other people had this issue, but couldn't find a straight answer what could the issue be. Here's the issue in motion picture format, turn the speakers up: https://vimeo.com/152181707 Anyone got any idea, what could this be? Much appreciated, as always.
  5. Strange Tapping From My Feet Area

ok let me start i bought a fiesta st mk6 with 27k miles really clean car just needed a few little things doing is what i thought. so when i was driving it home i noticed a strange knocking or tapping feeling come from around my feet area so i took the car to my local garage and found out that it needed a new suspension top mount had that done noise still there, so then i had all four tyres changed so now imn 400 pound in and still the noise is there. so then i was reading around i heard it might be the shock making the noise had them changed and its still there, so at this point i'm starting to get obsessed with this noise/ tapping that is driving me mad, then i felt the clutch slip and i thought it must be the clutch making the noise had the whole clutch changed plus slave and master cylinder and its still there so then i changed the lower gear box mount and its still there so i spent a massive amount of money chasing this tapping noise/ feeling it happens when i'm driving straight or corners cold or hot in gear and out of gear but one thing i did notice i might be wrong but it feels worse when it's only me in the car so it might be weight related but i'm not sure i've had two garages look over the whole car too check too see if anything is loose or needs changing and they said its fine but there is definitely something not right. can anyone help that might have had the same sort of thing happen to their fiesta as im running out of cash fast thanks guys for reading
  6. Hi again, As many of you may know, I waited 4 months for my beloved 2013 Fiesta Powershift Titanium X to be built, and was finally delivered on 19th July 2013. About 2 months after, I started to notice a grinding/rattle noise whenever the car changed gear at low speed. And started to make the car judder when pulling away. (Which I assumed was down to tyres needing to be inflated, but turns out I was very wrong) I know you can always hear SOME noise from an auto and this one is a dual clutch so I figured it was just down to that, so I ignored it. Over the winter however, it has got much much MUCH worse, and I took it into Benfield Ford. Not once, but 3 times. Got fobbed off with "...just needed a software update..." Didn't make a difference, and just when I was at the brink of just ignoring the noise and the juddering and struggling to change gear, I went to Oxford (300 miles from my home in North Yorkshire) and it got so bad that it was making the noise constantly. To cut a long story short, RAC put me in a Premier Inn for the night, RAC bloke comes out in morning and takes it for a spin - it made a horrific scraping noise (to which he said "Well blow me down.....). He followed me half way home and then we met in service station and told me I could attempt to drive it home as he thought it would most likely be safe (but to pull over and call them back if need be) or he could recover me home. I chose to try drive it home, which I did do. Then once I was back I took it into Ford and this time I DEMANDED the HEAD of the service department comes out with me for a drive until it made the noise...... Not a sound for 20 minutes (though plenty of juddering and struggling to change from 1st to 3rd), and at this point I'm practically BEGGING the car to make the noise! But nothing.....until right when we're pulling back into Benfield, when she let's loose "Grrrrrriiinndddd.....and the service manager's face goes pale. He knew there was something VERY seriously wrong with that gearbox.... That was 3 weeks ago... I've been given the most horrific Peugeot 308 hire car (I know beggars can't be choosers, but this thing is the epitome of crap french build quality -or lack of- and it point blank refuses to reverse) and my Fiesta is STILL parked in exactly the same space at Benfield that she has done for 3 weeks. Apparently they are replacing the 'Clutch Assembly?!?!' (Not entirely sure what that is) I rang up earlier to find out if there was any update and got told the EXACT same thing I was told this time last week... "We've got all your parts, we're just waiting for some sealant. Could be a few days, could be a few weeks.." - Now, is it me, or is that pretty disgraceful that: A: My brand new car needs repairs so severe that they need 'sealant?' & B: That I'm being made to wait all this time for some sealant that apparently could even be out of production, rendering this whole ordeal to continue for several weeks, if not months from now. Apparently, this is a very common fault with the PowerShift gearbox on all Ford Automatic Models, but more commonly with Fiesta & Focus. So my question is, do any of you, or have any of you had the same problem with an Automatic (Powershift) gearbox??? How long did it take to be solved?? Many thanks, apologies for the long winded rant! Tracey
  7. Strange Brake Noise

Hi, I was wondering if anyone could help me out.. I drive a MK7 Ford Fiesta Zetec S, and wondered if anyone has come across this sort of noise (file is attached) before? It happens when I press the brakes ever so lightly when pulling up to traffic lights and just general slow braking etc. The noise doesn't appear when I brake at high speeds or if I press the brakes down harder. I can't feel anything through the brake pedal, the brake performance hasn't been affected and also the noise only happens once I've driven at leave 3 or 4 miles, as if something needs warming up. The noise sounds like it's coming from the front drivers side. I've taken it to a few garages now and they don't seem to know. So I'm pretty baffled really. Any help would be much appreciated. Cheers
  8. Tyre Advice Needed.

Hi, bought a focus mk2 with BCT S800 tyres on, 19s. The noise is shocking at speed and grip on wet conditions conserns me. Any advice on a good all round replacement, that won't break the bank, would be greatly appreciated.
  9. 1.8 Tdci Ticking Noise

hi, I have a 2006 1.8TDCI done about 82k. When the engine reaches its normal temp an annoying ticking noise appears, more noticably inside the car, recently had a cam belt and pulley change. I have tried a flush, oil and filter change with no joy. There is no other running problems, runs sweet. Any body had a similar problem?
  10. Clutch? Gearbox? No Idea...

Hi all, I've seen topics similar to this around the forum which has given me the idea of replacing the clutch. I have a fiesta Mk5 1999 Zetec 1.25 and not so long back I did a stupid thing of wheel-spinning the car on dirt/gravel to set off. Within the first gear change, it felt stiff, would not budge unless forced. I pulled over and noticed the car was behaving out of the ordinary. The sound of the engine had changed to a rumble, and with the clutch down (engine on) it was almost impossible to put the gear stick into any gear. If I put it into first, it would creep forward with a few jumps as if I hit the biting point. Whenever I did hit the biting point, it took an aweful lot of revs to get the car going. Eventually when I got some speed, enough to make a gear change, the changes were unbelievably stiff, it had to be forced. A few days on, it behaves as it should, even with the clutch down, other than the heavy vibrations/jerk when moving off in first gear. There are heavier (or more noticeable rather) vibrations than normal from neutral to getting going. There's also a noise from my engine which sounds like a rumble, similar to that of a spark plug being out (however I've checked them and there okay). As said, looking around at similar faults its been advised to have the clutch and bearing replaced. I am open to other suggestions too. If the clutch is on the go ahead, what's the difficulty on it? I'd rather do it myself and save money. Haynes manual recommends a mechanic gets to it and has the car on a ramp... Something I haven't got! Cheers for the input guys.
  11. Hi I recently took my car (UK FORD FOCUS TD 1.8 2001 MODEL - Diesel 51 Reg) to a local garage for just an oil change. After I got the car back I noticed a strange screeching noise that wasn't there before. The noise only appears when the car has warmed up with the temperature gauge in the middle of hot and cold. It is not there until the car has been driven for about 10 - 15 mins. I took it back to the garage who checked it over and said they could not find any problems apart from a slightly loose air pipe clip which they told me should fix the problem, however once the engine was warm again the noise returned. The noise is more noticeable when the accelerator is pressed and the car revved. The best way to describe the noise is it sounds very like the noise a car makes when reversing, that kind of screeching sound but not as high pitched. It's not constant only when revs go up or accelerator is pressed. It seems to get louder as the car is driven for longer. If i sit in my car after it is warm and then rev my car the screeching noise appears. Does any body have any ideas? It's not a fan belt screeching but a different kind of sound almost like a vacuum cleaner noise...sorry hard to explain! The mechanics listened to it but couldn't pin point where it was coming from. On another note the same garage has just replaced my water pump, and drive and alternator belts etc due to a chirping, squeaking noise when engine was cold...this was when they told me the screeching noise caused by the earlier oil change may of been fixed by a lose air pipe clip but sadly it hasnt. Could it be a faulty oil filter? or even wrong oil? Though wrong oil seems unlikely perhaps a faulty oil filter, could this cause a noise when engine is warm? As mentioned there is no noise until car gets warm after 10 - 15 mins. Apart from the noise the car seems to run fine though the noise is very annoying as it is quite loud. Any advice would be helpful, hope I haven't rambled too much on my first post! TYI Darren
  12. Ford Focus 2008 Steering Noise

Hi, I have a 2008 Ford Focus 2.0 litre Titanium with an auto box with 53,000 on the clock. Recently a metallic rubbing noise started when turning hard left that sounded like someone blowing over the top of a coke bottle coming from the front drivers side. I took it into Ford and the tech heard it and said he'd never heard a noise like it. They had recently fitted new tyres, discs and pads so he cleaned the pads on that side and set the steering to comfort mode as he said the steering pump can make all sorts of weird noises. It didn't help, 10 miles down the road it started doing it again. This was a couple of weeks ago but last night driving home along the motorway the noise was constant though quieter, but still audible and I tip-toed home. I took it to the garage this morning and dropped it off and it was doing it again. The same rubbing noise that sounds like blowing over the top of a coke bottle - not a grind or a squeak. There is no vibration in the steering wheel and pedals and the car seems to drive fine. The noise only happens at 20mph+. As the Ford tech hasn't heard it before has anyone else any ideas? He said wheel bearings don't make that noise - but what else could it be? Thanks in advance
  13. 14. Weird Noise On Idle

Hi guys, my Fiesta makes a really weird noise when idle, I can't even describe it, but it sounds like in this video: The car seems to be running fine, no issues really, but it just doesn't sound healthy. A comment for the video says it's water pump, but another person on yt said he changed the water pump and that didn't help. Any ideas before I spend money on a repair?
  15. I've just bought a 54 plate Focus C-Max 1.6 diesel. The previous owner told me that he has very recently changed the battery and since then there has been this beeping sound from the dash. It is a long beep that sounds for about 3 seconds every couple of minutes. Any suggestions on what could be causing it and how to rectify?
  16. Ford Focus Zetec S

Hi everyone i have recently brought a focus zetec s 2009 plate, have had it a week and theres a couple of problems, not major just annoying knocks and twangs. first of all when i release the clutch it makes a knocking noise. secondly when i brake there is sometimes a loud crunch, also my exhaust bangs against something. apart from these few issues it is a great car to drive and looks good too! im sorry i really know jackshit about cars so ANY help you can give me will be much appreciated.. thankyou! :) :D
  17. Good Morning, Hope everyone is well, So I have owned a mk4.5 2.0ltr 140 mondeo for over a year it has 13K on the clock, returning from offshore one trip took the car out for a run, after about 20-30 minuets of driving I pulled over and noticed their was a ticking sound coming from the foot well of the passenger side of the car, lifted the bonnet but could not hear it over the engine idling but when back inside you could, it gets faster on revving the engine then returns back to a slow tick on idle, its only happened twice in the last few month and only when the engine is at temperature, hopefully someone has had the same experience before it get put to the garage to investigate, Thanks Grant
  18. Some of you may have seen my videos and heard that horrible Vibration Noise, I've read other people also have that same noisy Audio. This video shows 2 runs on the same road, before and after my fix. Someone pointed out it's the buttons that are creating the noise in camera, you can't actually hear anything in the car.I put a thin strip of Electrical Tape along the underside of those buttons and it's cured the vibration (for now) :D
  19. I have a rattle from the left side of the engine, I removed the auxilary belt that ran round the alternator, AC pump etc and started the car and the rattling had gone. I replaced the AC pump thinking that it was causing the rattle as it was a little lose on the pulley but it was not that. someone said that it could be the crankshaft pulley but after removing the auxilary belt I am not sure; the only other thing that comes to mind is the tensioner but that was replaced last year. Can anyone help please; thanks
  20. Has any one else had tyre noise that resembles a bearing failing I.e. rumbling at low speed 20 mph and then as speed increases sounds like a distant helicopter. a kind of woob woob woob sound . The car is under warranty and the garage says its tyre noise due to uneven wear however the tyres are newish goodyears and having worked as a tyre fitter and a mechanic it definitely sounds like front wheel bearings . Worrying as car has only done 27000 miles . ps 17 inch alloys ??
  21. Hydraulic Taps....i Think

Hope some one can help. I have a 2007 Fiesta 1.25 Ztec started to get a tapping sound when driving about and sometimes when stationary ( the sound would come and go). Happened just before it went for service, so had said to garage about it. So, after it got serviced, oil filter changed, engine flush and oil change. Garage said they think it Hydraulic taps and sound should go away. Now 2 weeks later, still having the tapping sounds. Any help?? garage closed at the minute for holidays. Cheers
  22. Noise In Boot Area ?

Hi All, Can anyone help ? My 2006 Ford focus Sport estate .........only done 46,000 miles on clock ........ has developed a noise in the boot area when going over speed platform , mostly on the exit side . It sounds as if something is moving ......... thought it was my mobility walker moving at first , took it out and the noise is still there .......so, emptied the rear completely . Noise not gone . It's the only time I hear it . Live in a road with three speed platforms ! I don't speed over them .
  23. Recently serviced my 03 sportka, euro car parts had an offer on Shell Helix so I went for 5ltrs of HX6 (5W30), ever since the oil change once the engine is warm its started being a bit noisy around 3,000 rpm, sounds a bit like tappets to the untrained ear. Car previously had some very good value tripleX which is euro car parts own brand cheap oil, engine ran nice and quiet on this. Realise the cars getting on in years and its just topped 73,000 miles so not looking for perfection but it just feels a bit too noisy. The engine is a 1.6 8 valve Duratec (Zetec Rocam), everything I've read on these engines points to them being pretty tough lumps, and the cars not a hard life. any suggestions welcome, currently planning on swapping out the oil and reverting back to cheap and cheerful tripleX Cheers, Ed
  24. I'm loving my ST diesel, however after 5k miles the front off side suspension and steering has got noisy, especially when its dry and warm. The most annoying grinding noise. Also the clutch had developed a squeak. Booked in to the dealers on Friday, just wondering if anyone else has had the same issues
  25. Noisy Ride

Hi guys, going over bumps etc and with the state of the roads here in england the back of the car makes a lot of bumpy rattling noises. sounds like shockers or something. Would changing both rear shockers or springs too? im a bit of a novice when it comes to mechanics. on a side note the latch on the boot was a little bit of a loose fit on the pin that sits on the body so when you close it and drive you can hear that rattling. Wrapped tape around it and that is now secure. Don't know if its that what's still making the noise but go over any sort of pot hole or uneven road and you can hear it. Any help would be appreciated guys :) Thanks
