  1. Has anyone had this happen?

I've just been to a local Jet station (and at £1.20 a litre I doubt I'll be going back but needs must) I put in £20 and hit it exactly so I put the pump back and went to pay, not really taking notice of the price gauge after letting go of the trigger. Lady at the till asks for £20.01. I've had this a few times before in different places but not for a while. I brought it up and she sent someone who must have been called Malcolm (if you watch Lee Evans you'll know what I mean) to go and 'check' the pump. Malcolm goes out to my pump, takes a glance at the readout and returns to the shop saying 'yep, 20.01'. Thanks Malcolm, couldn't have done that without you... Anyway, what gives?
  2. Recently had battery issues ending up putting a new battery in. The car sat without a battery for about 24 hours. Now the fuel gauge reads a quarter which is about right but the low fuel level indicator has illuminated even though I know there is fuel in the tank. Any ideas? ford fiesta 2009 1.6 diesel
  3. Hi all, A few days ago when I was leaving work I could smell fuel when I started up the engine and drove off. I didn't think anything of it since I had the same thing happen with my old Vauxhall Corsa (Don't judge! It was a first car:P). Anyways, a friend at work also said that it was running a bit rich and that I should get it retuned. If they are right, does anyone recommend anywhere I could get this done in Romford? Thanks in advance.
  4. XR3i HELP!

I am not directly a Ford owner although my wife does have a Fiesta but I do have a Ford Escort XR3i engine in my 1992 Morgan 4/4. Recently the fuel system has developed an intermittent serious leak, it is leaking from a fitting that looks like a plastic pushfit plumbing fitting and as soon as the ignition is turned on fuel sprays out. Can anyone tell what is the function of this "elbow" or is it simply a connector for the two parts of the fuel delivery pipe? My local Morgan dealer cannot identify the part, probably because they don't know what it is, the problem being that this engine was only used by Morgan for part of 1992 and therefore there are not many of them about in Morgans. Any help that anyone can give on what it is, what it does and where can we get a replacement would be most welcome. Attached are a couple of photos showing the location in the Morgan engine bay.
  5. Had a car service ford focus tdci hatchback zetec climate 07 plate fuel filter change and wouldn't start so had to by a primer I'm not sure do they have an electronic fuel pump or have they got to prime it if so what specific ways of doing this as I had a primer fitted and car 2 times struggled to start 2 time it cut off but struggled.to start then started as soon as I put my foot on the eccelarator
  6. Hi everybody Can anyone tell me how to connect the fuel pump and the carburetor. I have ford fiesta 1.3 mono injection and can't connect the fuel ignition Sorry for my bad english
  7. Focus drinks petrol

I bought a 2005 1.6 petrol Ghia Auto last August. It had 64000mls with full service history. I'm very happy apart from the mpg. It drinks petrol. I drive like a nun and i still only get about 30mpg in the country, if i start driving fast i actually think i can see the dial moving, if i drive at about 70mph im getting 20mpg. I did a bit of research and got the O2 sensors changed (£80 for each +time=£240 unbelievable) didnt make any difference. Any ideas? Is 30 to 35mpg normal for this car? I'm getting about 140mls per tank. Any info appreciated
  8. Cruise Control and mpg

I'm quite lazy so even on twisty A Roads I like to use CC the engine revs hard from time to time when I come to inclines to maintain the speed Is it better for fuel economy to not use CC in above situation and only use it on Motorways? Thanks
  9. Hi Im new to this and dont really know about cars that why i have signed up to try and solve this problem. Yestarday i filled up my tank and as the evening went on my car started to lose power in gears 4 5 6 and also pulling very slow in the other gear, it felt like someone had just taken the turbo out, i have rang ford and was told i need a diagostics test but read other forum with people staying that ford saying there was no problem. My car wont go over 65mph and wont go over 3rpm even if i have my foot right down. There is no warning light etc i really dont! I read another forum before saying his focus went in to limp mode after 2 days of hot weather and the last 2 days it has been 16+ here which is hot for the area. Also i have seen articles on the shell station saying the fuel is rubbish so thinking it could be a fuel fliter. Please can anyone expand my knowledge on what i already know. Cheers
  10. Info on the problem. - 2008 Ford Focus 1.6 Style - Auto - 30,000 Miles Short version of what’s wrong with the car and important notes: - Mostly heat related starting problem - The car drives perfectly - There is no injector pulse when fault is occurring, the most important info here is wiggling the wiring harness WILL get the car to start when the car is NOT hot, however when the engine has warmed to normal operating temp wiggling wires will not have any affect which I’m guessing is due to thermal expansion. - ECU has been swapped out with another new one and problem persisted. - Disconnecting the ECT sensor will get the car to start almost 99% reliably. - ECT sensor has been replaced. - Crank sensor has been replaced. - No fault codes ever registered. I have been trying to trace the problem through the wiring harness but it’s proven to be too difficult. The current process I’m using to find the problem is to investigate all sensors and their circuits that have anything to do with fuel injection, the only problem is that I do not have a large knowledge base when it comes to cars. I am wondering if you guys can help me and please be so kind to tell me what sensors you know to affect fuel injection and if you’ve ever heard of such a problem before or know of anything that could help. I have a scanning tool and have been inspecting how certain sensors work and everything seems to be fine (voltages .etc) to my knowledge which again isn’t vast. I have had a friend bridge the whole ECT sensor circuit to eliminate it and sure enough the problem is not regarding the ECT circuit. I’m getting close to having to give up a perfectly good car all because of some stupid wiring problem. Thank you for any help, it is much appreciated.
  11. Hey gang, So I want to replace the rocker cover gasket on my MK2 Focus 1.6 TDCI, as well as checking out the oil separator for leaks and replacing injector seals. According to Haynes (and a lot of other sources) the union pipes connected to the fuel injectors MUST be replaced once removed. These seem to be rather expensive, and although I've researched the reasons why they should only be used once, it's gonna be looking pretty expensive for the "simple" (and cheap) work I'm attempting. So, question, is it too much of a risk to re-use the pipes? Is there a way to remove the oil separator for inspection without dismantling the entire manifold including injectors? I hope someone can help, cheers, Sam
  12. few months ago i changed my fuel filter on my 1.6 tdci focus 09. (econetic), spilt a bit of fuel and then thought i had an odd smell in the cabin when using the air system. kept an eye on that, and that seems all fine theres no sign of a leak and hoses are attached perfectly. ive had this smell a while now and am running out of ideas. today i changed the oil, and i had to remove the air inlet hose to the engine to access the fuel filter, this is attached to the turbo and the air filter housing, and i noticed when i removed it, there was liquid inside it. and it smelt of this smell that ive been getting inside the car when the air is on, you can also smell this odour standing in front of the engine when its running. the odd thing, is this smell only comes into the cabin, when the air is from the outside. when i have the air to be recirculated, the smell doesnt came in. any ideas? ive just read that a possible sign of an EGR being stuck open is a "slight or strong smell of fuel"
  13. Hi guys, I discovered that the previous owner of my Ranger had broken and glued one of the connectors on the fuel return line. Needless to say it broke and spewed diesel all over the engine and I had to get towed to a garage. Anyway, the replacement (the whole return line with all four connectors and the line back to the fuel filter/pump) was ordered and fitted. Now I am camping deep in the desert in Namibia and when I lifted the hood this morning to check that everything was okay I discovered fuel leaking in the same area. I've wiped down the whole area but can't see anything obvious. Also it looks like the guy who fitted the new line has placed it behind the injectors as opposed to the pic where the line is in front of the injectors. Would this make a difference? How do I unclip the connectors to check? If I do this will it cause more problems like letting air into the line? I'm pretty desperate but luckily have access to patchy wifi at a bar up the road. I would really appreciate any suggestions you guys might have. Cheers.
  14. I changed the fuel filter about a week ago, but after i primed the fuel filter, i had a spillage of diesel. im not entirely sure but i think i can smell something odd when the heating is on in the car, although the odd smell only begins to appear when the air is hot, when i run it after getting in i dont notice anything until the cabin is warm, theres no funny smell when its cold. my wife seems to think theres nothing different to before, she says it smells like it always has, even though ive asked her to give it a good sniff right infront of the air vents, as its not an overly strong smell, and i did my best to wipe up everything i could see when i had the spillage. so is it possible that some of the fuel i spilt could be in the air system somehow? and can i get rid of it? im not even sure its diesel i can smell myself. If its any help. the car is an 09 ford focus and the fuel filter is located just to the right of the engine, just under the fresh air intake
  15. Fuel light and trip cpu

Had my focus a week no dramas with the way it's working just running low today, trio cpu showing 43 miles left and the light on the dash, filled up but the light remains on and the trip cpu has gone down not up, the tank needle has moved to quarter tank. Any way to reset this? Car is an 05 focus zetec, 1.6 petrol***
  16. Pally

Hi I was wondering if anyone knows how to remove the cyclinder from the barrel of a Ford Fiesta Zetec Mk6.5 fuel cap lock? I recently noticed that the fuel cap lock is sticking every time I try to either lock or unlock the fuel cap. So I managed to remove it and take off the silver clip and black plastic (please see pictures). Now I am stuck on how to remove the barrel/cyclinder. My aim for now is to simply to disassemble, clean, re-lubricate and then reassemble the lock. If this fails, I will then look at buying a genuine ford cyclinder lock repair kit from maybe Ford Parts UK which I believe is about £40 to £50. Regards Pally
  17. Hey guys I am new to the forums, I have a 2003 Mk6 Fiesta 1.25L 5 door in pepper red burgundy. I have noticed a hissing sound from the engine bay that I have narrowed down to (what I am assuming) is the fuel rail return line. It has a quick release clip with a red button on either side, this clip is situated on the right side of the fuel rail while facing the front of the car. I removed the clip and the hissing stopped, it would also change pitch if I wiggled it (fuel didn't go everywhere). I was wondering if anyone knew where I could get a new clip/internals of the clip. As well as the hissing, on start up I can smell petrol while outside the car. The smell goes away after a short amount of time Could this be because of the hissing fuel return line? Because the cat hasn't heated up? The MOT is next month and I am worried that it could fail because of that. Thanks for your time, any help would be appreciated!
  18. Hi all, When doing a service on my 2007 MK6.5 Fiesta, I noticed some air bubbles in one of the fuel lines. I think they're in the fuel line going towards the high pressure pump. Please see the first attached picture where I've highlighted the bubbles. Obviously the bubbles move through the line when I press the priming bulb, but new bubbles seem to be coming in again. Does anyone know if it is normal for these bubbles to be there? Cheers! Pietr
  19. Hi folks, I'd be really grateful if someone here could tell me, categorically, if it would be ok for me to put the 'more expensive unleaded petrol' in my car. I have a Ford Focus Edge 1.6 2011. I usually fill up at Tesco so it would be their Momentum I'd be looking to try. I really don't know anything about this and have always been curious about filling my tank up with this 'other stuff'. Will it damage my engine, will my car even accept it? Sorry to sound so thick but like I said I just don't know anything about this. People I know have told me it will be fine and that I should try it but I've always been hesitant to be honest. Any help would be very much appreciated. Thanks, Ewan.
  20. Hi, new to the forum. My wife recently purchased a Fiesta 1.0 eco boost titanium model. The expected range of a full tank is according to the ford website around 600 miles, however the range displayed on our car is roughly 275 on a full tank and that is what we are getting before we have to fill up again It is mainly used for local driving, she drives carefully and even uses the stop start function. The full tank still costs the same amount of around £50, so it's not the tank size. Mileage on 4/1/2015 was 27441 when I filled up - range States 271 miles to 0 mileage on 7/1/2015 was 27701 before I filled up - range States 273 to 0 So we only got 260 miles between fill ups. Does anyone have any ideas .
  21. Ford Fiesta st fuel

Hi I'm looking to get the st soon, I'm curious on the fuel though does it drain the petrol it says it can do 47mpg? I usually put in 30 in my car currently and that last me a week going to work and back usually about 15miles there and back so 30 miles a day. I won't be going crazy in it. max speed I'll do is 70-80 on motorway but I like to keep it 60 just to save fuel. So the question is really will £30 last me for the week going to work?
  22. Fuel light on too soon

Hi all,. Really weird my mk2 1.8 tdci fuel light has come on but needle is showing about just under 1/8 of a tank left and has never come on this early before. Car does not have a range computer. help or ideas appreciated
  23. Have a Mondeo 2011mod(facelift) 2.0 tdci 140bhp, lately it have been throwing engine malfunction light and sometimes transmission fault light. It seems that it is throwing fault code p0093 and p0094, (fuel leak high and fuel leak low) Some additional codes appear to, but they seem to be related to warning lights and limp home mode being triggered. Sometimes nothing happens except warning light, and sometimes it goes into limp home mode. Today when arriving home it run rough on idle and was coming light smoke from exhaust with "hot" smell and sulfur smell. Opened the hood and could hear a squeaky noise coming and going from injector area but could not identify exactly from where\or a specific injector. After a couple of minutes the sound disappeared and engine returned to running normal and no smoke from the exhaust. No warning lights illuminated during this went on or after. Any idea what it could be, and how to identify the exact problem?
  24. fuel filter replament

ive had the usual issue with the fuel filter letting in air, i curious to know has anyone replaced the fuel housing with a more universal inline fliter like this ? and if it is possible has anyone any ideas of where i would get and adapter to go from a hard plastic (number 1. ) fuel pipe to connect to a softer fuel hose to use this kind of filter and remove the original housing to put and inline electric fuel pump before a filter at (number 3.) to help keep fuel coming from the tank. to feed the high pressure fuel pump at (number 2.)
  25. 1.8 tdci fuel issue

hey guys i know this has been asked 1000 times before but im going to go insane, i bought a 1.8 tdci mk2 focus about 6 months ago, and on the way home i had "engine system fault" and down on power, at the time we found the fuel filter lid was not tightened down enough and drawing air (surprise surprise) but i tightened the lid cleared to fault codes and drove ever since 2 weeks ago, when driving feels hesitant just feathering the pedal until give it a bit more revs car broke down and had to get RAC to get me started to get it home as i had no tools with me, RAC guy cracked the injector pipes and air flew out by the bucket, and managed to start with easy start and drove about 2 miles until i got to my street and it died out again, i figured the same issue because the exact same symptoms happened again, this time i changed the filter and o ring, tightened down really tight and the dash says "engine system fault" and the engine dies using forscan found fault code p0089-61 -fuel pressure control valve / signal is above maximum threshold and will not start, using a vac pump i pulled fuel from the hoses before the fuel filter and ran clear diesel no air bubbles, the vacuum tested the filter housing, holding pressure good so i would assume no leaks, then vacuum pulled the fuel throught the pump from the return hose connector few air bubbles, and the ran consistent diesel although strangely the fuel slowly pulled through the pump then would speed up then slow down, managed to get the car started by pulling the fuel this far, at idle forscan read the pressure at about 30,000 kpa and reving raised to 50,000 kpa, car idled for about 5 mins then i test drove didnt even get 10 meters and it died, tried to start again and fuel pressure read 500kpa (basically nothing). i did this twice incase air was trapped down the pipes somewhere but did the exact same again, im 98% sure this time air in the fuel isnt the cause as ive reseated the fuel filter seal a couple times and tightened to the point of it i go any further it will break, it seems to be gradually getting worse past couple days has anyone seen this before? logically i think there may be a fault with the fuel pressure valve on the rear of the fuel pump restricting fuel due to the sudden drop off in fuel pressure has anyone had this?
