Posting in General Chat thread.   11/11/2017

it has been noted that too many Members are posting messages in the General Chat area instead of the correct Forums. Any messages posted in the General Chat area that are not General Chat will be deleted without warning and offenders may recieve warning points if repeated instances are seen from that Member. There are plenty of different Club areas that encompass 99% of Ford related posts, please select and use the correct one. If anyone is not sure of which area to post something then feel free to P/M myself or other Senior Staff for guidance. The Moderating Staff are having to spend far too much time chasing this problem instead of maintaining the other areas of the forum.

  1. Rough Idle

Hi all. Recently purchased a '96 1.8 Verona. 118k miles. A 1 owner car. Only really had motorway usage. It does drive real well, BUT, it's a bit irratic on idle, when it's started from cold it revs quite high (about 1800 rpm). I've cleaned the throttle body etc, and made all the general checks, ie. air leaks, hoses, plugs not fitted correctly etc. But can't seem to put my finger on it. I have an OBD2 tester, but that doesn't work this this car. Any ideas would be appreciated.
  2. Speedo & ECU - My Story Jan 2013 - Bought: Ford Focus - 1.4L - Mk. 1 - 2001 - 110k miles. Right from purchase the speedo would occasionally cut out. When cut out this effected the ECU. When speedo cut out car would stutter with its fuel injection because ECU is confused. When speedo comes back to life, car is fine again until speedo cuts out next time. Feb 2013 - This speedo starts to cut out every journey + the stuttering. The fuel injection stuttering starts happening even when speedo hasn't cut out. At the same time the engine begins over revving itself when car is stationary. At the same time the engine struggles to accept fuel when putting foot down in gears 1, 2 & 3. I research the issue, bought and fit a new speed sensor: bit.ly/1125vvW Speedo ceases to cut out, happy days. However the fuel injection stuttering/over revving/ engine struggling to accept fuel remains. Perhaps I left problem for too long: confused ECU has damaged something else? Very common Ford problem. Does anyone know of a solution to the problem?
  3. I have owned a Mondeo zetec tdci for the past 5 years. The car is an amazing drive and has accumulated in excess of 170,000 miles on the clock. Apart from the usual wear and tear problems she has given me very few problems. Recently, she has an intermittant problem, which even a diagnostic cannot pinpoint. I am told that the fault needs to happen whilst it is attached to the machine. Because this is intermittant fault, well you see the problem I have. The problem is .... I start the car with no problem, each and every time. I drive and before the car has reached temperature, she will on occassion, just stop. There is no warning to indicate when this will happen. All lights go out and the glow plug light will flash. Restarting her can be instantaneous or I might have to wait for up to ten minutes. Once this has happened, driving her is no problem. It will not happen at all for the duration of the journey. This stopping, might happen every day for a week or two and then everything could be fine for several weeks. I have been given all sorts of 'solutions' the most recent of which is the injector pump. I do not really want to go to the expense of a new one, the mechanic has said that there might be a more cost efffective solution. He feels that the problem could be something as simple as a circuit weld. If anyone has encountered this problem and found a solution, or knows someone who could help. Please help. I thank you all in advance, I want to continue driving this car and not see it on the scrap pile.
