Posting in General Chat thread.   11/11/2017

it has been noted that too many Members are posting messages in the General Chat area instead of the correct Forums. Any messages posted in the General Chat area that are not General Chat will be deleted without warning and offenders may recieve warning points if repeated instances are seen from that Member. There are plenty of different Club areas that encompass 99% of Ford related posts, please select and use the correct one. If anyone is not sure of which area to post something then feel free to P/M myself or other Senior Staff for guidance. The Moderating Staff are having to spend far too much time chasing this problem instead of maintaining the other areas of the forum.

  1. MK3 Fiesta Project

Hello, I recently bought a Mk3 Fiesta which will be a little project car to work on in my spare time. I am planning on putting either a 2.0l or 1.8l pinto engine in it, but I also want to keep it FWD. Does anyone know which gearbox I could use?
  2. O.K, so the Aluminium part of your foot pedal just fell off? Mine did a month and a half ago. I temporarily glued it back in place whilst ordering a genuine new one. Thinking this would be an easy swap I set about it. A few hours (and a lot of frustration later I managed the task). I couldn't find anything helpful online so I thought I'd write a quick guide of how I managed this. The pedal in question was the Clutch pedal, but I presume it'll be the same fro the Brake pedal too. Insure you have a lamp, a small mirror and a flat stubby screwdriver to assist you doing this correctly. Place the new pedal cover into a bowl of boiling water for around 10 minutes. Dry off the pedal cover and head to the car to begin fitting. (#1) Install the bottom of the pedal cover first (as it's the smaller area). (#2) Insert the upper left corner next (this is the awkward corner as you are inhibited by the pedal support arm) (#3) Then run your screwdriver up the side to ensure the rubber between #1 & #2 is correctly fitted. (#4) Fit the top right corner next. (#5) Run your screwdriver across the top to ensure the rubber between #2 & #4 is correctly fitted. (#6) Finally pull down on the right side tab to assist you using your screwdriver to ensure this rubber is correctly in place. This sounds fairly simple to do, but in practice it can be a bit of a dog to successfully get all of the rubbers on in place. You will need to apply pressure to the pedal cover against the pedal itself to get parts to stay on whilst moving on to the next step. Obviously if the pedal cover slips off then you should start again and drop it back into boiling water. I've attached a few images for assistance. I hope this guide helps at least one person out, please leave a comment below if so. Thanks in advance.
  3. Good morning everyone, I hope you are well. I have noticed a small knock noise as i switch the car from 1st to 2nd gear. The noise happens almost instantly and before I lift the clutch. It is just a single knock but i happens almost every time. I had a Google around and I have read that a similar noise is normal, but I wondered if anyone else has experienced this or has any thoughts. Thank you in advance.
  4. Hi, I bought a 62 plate 2013 MK3 Ecoboost Ford Focus second hand. It was a cat D and it's been repaired. The car's done 33,000 miles and seems in decent condition. It drives nice and I love it. My girlfriend has the Ecoboost Fiesta. The stop start works perfectly on that, but on my Focus it hasn't kicked in once. The previous owner stated it usually works but that it's been stood a few weeks and the battery was low. I didn't believe that to be honest but as the rest of the car was fine I took a chance as it was at a decent price. Anyone know of any issues that stops the stop start working? The (A) button is turned on and there are no warning lights coming on when I start the car.
  5. light cluster wires with arrow.pdf Hello, I have a rear view camera (https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B01DTTZQ0C/ref=od_aui_detailpages00?ie=UTF8&psc=1) I want to wire into the reversing lights of my Mondeo Mk3. I currently have a front facing camera installed (clipped over the rear view mirror) and I want the rear view camera to automatically pop up when I select reverse gear. The pictures I have added are (starting from the top); 1- The two rear camera connectors, the phono jack goes directly into the front camera/screen unit and the black and red bi-wire is what is to be wired into the reversing lights. 2- The near side, rear, light cluster connector, wire termination points . As you face the car's rear it is on the left (passenger side) and located under a plastic panel. The left of the image is the top and each port is numbered 1-7 (I can't see how to rotate the image on this). 3- The rear camera 4-Manufacturer's installation instructions (generic, Chinese) 5-Link to pdf image, where I have added an arrow using a photo editor to indicate wire(s) I think I need to use. 6-The near side, rear, light cluster connector, wire termination points (Front of ports). As you face the car's rear it is on the left. 7-The near side, rear, light cluster connector, wire termination points (Back of ports). As you face the car's rear it is on the left. 8-The connections I tried ; Red from the camera into 5 port and Black from the camera into 6 port. Ideally, I have just missed a thread/wiki/tutorial where someone has done this and someone can point me in the right direction. Failing that, has anybody already done this and can you tell me how you connected the wires? So looking at other threads discussing the wire locations the red wire from the camera needs to be connected to the green and black wire (reverse left) in port 5 and the black wire needs to be connected to the black wire in port 6 (Earth). I have tried jamming the exposed camera wire ends into the correct ports and then tested the camera. The rear camera showed up as PIP( picture in picture) being the smaller of the two images as a constant feed. When I put the car into reverse gear I expected the image feeds to invert showing me the rear camera feed as the main image and the forward facing image the smaller PIP, but there was no change and the image stayed as it was. Does anybody have any ideas as to how I can configure this set-up so that when I go into reverse the smaller rear camera image turns into a full-screen image on the mirror with the front facing image taking up the smaller PIP? ***In the end, this method did work exactly as shown and described, maybe ram the exposed cable ends in instead of jamming them in. Held them in with sparky tape. Ran rear camera wire through door sills trunking down near side and up through pillar and across to top of mirror. I have mounted camera on inside of rear windscreen at the top in the centre of the brake light. Because of the angle of the glass on the boot I would say if your primary reason for install is as a reversing cam then you need to install camera outside the car, probably around the number plate somewhere as I can't really see any more than if I just look out the back window. Might change position later if I get time, not too fussed at the mo.*** Will leave this up in case anyone else wants the info.
  6. I have the premium Sony sound system with the 10 speakers in my car. I keep losing the centre and sub woofer randomly when driving and it won't return until the car is powered down for a while. The head unit has been replaced, and this still hasn't fixed it. Curiously this started happen after a software to try and fix other issues with the previous head unit. Does anyone know if there is still a separate dsp/amp in the MK3.5 or is it now contained in the head unit its self? I am going to call Ford directly and see what they have to say about the matter as my dealer is running out of things to try and things to replace!
  7. So I have a 2002 mk3 mondeo tddi with fixed vane turbo. Engine part is still more or less stock ( had the dmf to smf conversion done) I have read some different forums/posts and come to a conclusion that the car could problably use a bit more boost/power because well..boost ! :) The easiest (cheapest) would be to install a boost gauge and a manual boost control valve. My questions at this point are. 1. How much boost does the stock setup produce 2. How much can the stock piping take 3. When will the ECU understand that i am messing about with it and go into fault 4. At what point do i risk runing it too lean. So that the injectors, pump fail to come up with enough fuel. If i have overlooked a topic that covers these questions already, then feel free to post a link and point me in the right direction. Thank you
  8. As title, can anyone give me a definitive answer as to whether a sync-era display and sony branded radio can be fitted to a non-sync (BT/VC system) car, and bluetooth still work - less bothered about nav voice control, but voice control in general I could also do with keeping functional. Thanks Mark
  9. It started out looking like this... As time went by, It turned into this.... It all started when I joined another Mondeo owners forum and as I looked through the pictures of other people's cars, I was made aware of what I could have. I started upgrading the front bumper with a facelift one from a scrapped 2003 model. I didn't want the front fogs at the time so I just got it sprayed to match the car, removed the fog moulds from the back then stuck black mesh in the gaps where the front fogs would once sit, and the centre grill. It looked hideous..... That's when I knew I wanted to go the full-works and get the ST kit installed, so I did. I replaced the rear lights with from the boring-looking standard ones with a new set of facelift ST ones.... Next, came the Rear ST bumper only with my own little touch on it. I wasn't fond of the standard grill inserts so I decided to try the black mesh look again and this time I was very pleased... I installed some parking sensors aswell and also replaced the boot trim with another facelift part that had the chrome lip, just above the reg plate. I then realised that I liked the chrome look too, so I then replaced the door handles and weather strips with official chrome trim ones... I wasn't finished there. I then wanted to get the facelift Honeycomb front grill which had a chrome surround. So when that arrived, I got it sprayed in Panther Black to match the car then put that on too... Dismantled my headlights next and sprayed them black and got some Halo rings installed... Next up was changing the front bumper again, only this time I decided to go with a Zetec S bumper and the front fogs and added a few more touches of my own. I got the front fog moulds sprayed to match the car and added some chrome stripping. I know the chrome stripping is not for everyone, but I thought it gave the car a really nice finish... The alloy's where next on the list so I wanted to go with a multispoke design and I like the 18" ZS design from Ford so I got a second hand set of those and got them sprayed to look nice and tidy. I also took a long trip to part exchange a pair of 'preface' ST side skirts with a pair of official Zetec S skirts. I discovered that I had to replace the front wings to get the ST skirts to fit but that wasn't a road I wanted to travel down. Got the Zetec S skirts installed aswell... Last up was overhauling my interior. I completely removed the centre dash console and replaced the radio with a double din unit from Clarion that had 1000+ colours options to choose from to match any interior lighting, speakers, facelift controls, leather seats (door cards too), and interior lighting from the standard green to red (that was a long day!!) and the results were worth it... The last things left to do was give it a buff with a some G6 and a mop to get that mirror image shine... (this too was another looonnnggg day) Sadly, I had to let her go to another owner. I had a young family building up and I knew where I wanted my priorities to be. The next owner completely trashed it and I got this really gut-wrenching feeling inside when I first saw it about a month later, I was heartbroken! Have not seen it for sometime now, I like to think it got sold on to someone who cared more but I will never know. This is now my new pride and joy... I'm sure you have seen many examples of these cases and they always have a unique feel to them. Thanks for taking the time to read and view! I hope you enjoyed it.
  10. Hi. Changing my instrument cluster for a one with higher miles on. Anybody know a way for me to knock 15k miles off to match my current. Local ford dealer said they can’t help me. Thanks guys i have faith faith one of you can help me.
  11. Hi my stop start has stopped working. On the test menu it shows my battery as 11.4v with everything off. Is that healthy enough for the system to work. Done a 20minute trip down the motorway last weekend and had everything off as approaching the city and it still didn't activate. Anyone else had same issue. Or know a fix. Thanks
  12. Hello from Stoke.

  13. How do i remove reat seats

You may have seen an earlier post/thread by me about fitting seats from an ST into my Focus Zetec. I bought seats, and have fitted both the front seats and the base for the rear seats... however i'm having some difficulty working out how to get the rear seatbacks out, so I can fit the new ST ones. Any help would be much appreciated, as I want to finish fitting the seats so I can sell the old ones...
  14. Right. Seriously not looking to start a discussion here about what tuning method is best - I know we all have different ideas based upon different experiences and different research. Originally I poopooed (heehee ) the idea of these tuning boxes, having read many horror stories about problems with engines after installing. However, this was based upon (my) zero knowledge of different tuning methods or reading myself on how these boxes work. It seems that most of the naysayers are folk who are really talking about the 'early-days' tuning boxes, ie, a resistor in a comparatively giant plastic box that eats turbos, however looking for actual reviews on Arachnids specifically there seems to be nothing but good from all walks of life, on all vehicles and for months and months after installing (presumably the owners stop banging on about it after a while but it still continues to work flawlessly!) Stephen @madmole, I'm really looking at you here - as the biggest advocate for these things (I saw what must be your review btw =)) I'm looking for as much information as you can give if that's ok? I don't really want a sales pitch as I've been on their website already, but as much detailed information about installation, setup, usage and removal (if you have) from your own personal experience as you can would be massively appreciated and just maybe, we might be able to encourage a few more folk that this could be the way to go? I've got the thing sat in a cart with the FOC30 discount code already applied (thanks for that). There was apparently a 'sp40' code for 40% off, but that's now expired. My finger is hovering over the 'pay now' button and I think I need that final push. The other thing I MUST consider is the insurance impact. My insurance already almost doubled when coming to this car from my 1.6 petrol Mk1 as I was halfway through the year and want to get the NCB (I went on my own insurance quite late on and only have 4 years). If this is going to massively hike it then it may put the kibosh on anyway cos there ain't no way in hell I'm not telling them about it. Obviously I know that noone can really tell me but my insurance company but others' experience would be welcome. Anyone else who has one, please share - good and bad. Anyone else who HAD one and went for something else with better results, please share - when and why. Anyone else who is going to tell me that it will kill my engine and not to buy one: unless you were on the design or build team for them or unless this happened to YOU and not your cousin's sister's dog's breakfast's brother; thank you but no thank you.
  15. Mk3 drls

OK so I would really like some drls but £200+ for oems just ain't gonna happen. That sort of money would be put towards a remap. So I'm looking at these 'fang' style ones. Adding a link is a pain from my phone but I'm sure you know what I mean. I think Keifer put some on his. They're about £60 from 'UK' sellers and about half that from Hong Kong. Now I am well aware of Chinese quality issues but I was wondering if anyone had had positive experience of these and if there is actually any difference to the same style sold by apparently UK sellers. Is the only difference being patient enough to wait a month for them to arrive do you think?
  16. Hi, i have installed a K&N 57s into my Focus MK3 ST TDCi however after a min or so the car goes into limp mode. I have checked the filter is fitted correctly and also reset the KAM but still get the same issue. Has anyone got this filter fitted to the same car and got it working? Thanks Chris
  17. Mk3 LED indicators

Has anyone done the LED front and rear indicators with external ballast/resistors? Can I have a soundoff of which bulbs and resistor values you used and where you got them from please? Ta muchly
  18. Is this possible? How expensive is it? Has anyone done it? Cheers
  19. Has anyone seen or fitted a Zetec S body kit to a MK3 2012 Titanium Focus? Been searching the net and cant even see them for sale anywhere. Any one seen them and any ideas of price. Can they be had from ford dealers? Thanks
  20. Mk3 mystery plug...

Mmmmk. So. In taking the passenger footwell side panel off to wire in an illuminated gear knob, I discover an empty socket and a foam-wrapped plug which apparently will fit it but isn't plugged in. All the wires are there in both plug and socket so I'm wondering if anyone knows what the heck it's for??! The red and black socket here is at the front of the passenger footwell. And this little chap is completely encased in very sticky foam. Ford definitely did not want me plugging that in, but I'd like to have an idea what it does before I do =]]
  21. Mk3 Bulb List and LEDs

Sorry if this has already been done... I know Danger's excellent sticky for bulbs (found HERE) has a huge list of bulbs types for Mk1 through to 2.5, but doesn't seem to cover Mk3 (at least, not in the first post and there's over 200 more posts to look through to check for each bulb!) So I thought I'd post up bulb types for the Mk3 (and 3.5 if different) but also a sort of guide for those looking to replace with LEDs (as I hope to do). As I swap more on my car and hopefully as others post info I'll add it to the first post so there's a quick reference guide up for folk. I want to add other helpful information too, like whether the led's are simply plug and play or need some modifications, the wattage of the original (so people can judge what LEDs to buy for comparative brightness) and maybe people's recommendations or things to watch for. Please feel free to correct anything I post if wrong. I'll start the ball rolling with the list from my handbook though I think it has a few missing and I may need some clarification on which bulbs it actually refers to! If anyone wants to share a guide I'll happily link to it Bulb - Fitting - Wattage - Plug & Play / Mod Req'd Mk3 Front & Rear Indicator - 581 (PY21W) - 21w - Mod == Separate resistors required in parallel to the bulbs to prevent Hyper-Flashing. Possible heat issue as resistors can get hot. Headlamp Main Beam - H1 - 55w - ?? == Have seen some conversion kits, but I think LEDs aren't road legal in UK for main and dipped beam? I think I'll stick with some white halogens. Headlamp Dipped Beam - H7 - 55w - ?? == Handbook specifically states to replace with the same rating just for these bulbs. Cornering Lamp - H1 - 55w - ?? == Thought these were the fogs but... Front Fog Lamp - H11 - 55w - P&P == Not sure if Canbus friendlies are needed Side Lamp - 501 (W5W) - 5w - P&P == Canbus friendly required. Some people have had flickering issues with cheaper LEDs Side Repeater - 501 (WY5W) - 5w - P&P == Canbus friendly required to prevent dash errors, but no hyperflashing as long as front and rear indicators are stock or correctly resisted. Stephen (MadMole) has a great guide to removing the wing mirror panels HERE which gives access to these and puddle lights if fitted. Approach Lamp - 501 (W5W) - 5w - P&P == Think this means mirror puddle lamps in Ti and Ti-X. Limited space to fit the bulbs in so I wouldn't get too large a replacement. Stephen (MadMole)'s guide HERE. Brake and Tail Lamp - 380 (P21/5W) - 21w/5w - ?? == Anyone here done this? Fo Fans has a guide but most of the pictures are missing. Tail Lamp - 501 (W5W) - 5w - ?? == Assuming this is rear numberplate lights? If so, my Ti seems to have LED's already. Are these simply Plug & Play from 'cands? Rear Fog Lamp - 382 (P21W) - 21w - ?? == Anyone swapped these? Reversing Lamp - 955 (W16W) - 16w - P&P == Is the handbook correct?? They're push fit wedges?! I know a lot of folk have swapped these for Cree LED's with great success. Luggage Compartment Lamp - 501 (W5W) - 5w - P&P == My Ti has one either side, not sure if only one in Zetecs. There's no reflector in these lights so a COB LED (panel type) or a bulb with lots of SMD's on the sides will throw the light out better. Remove the lens with a small screwdriver on the short side nearest the back seats. I found it helpful to drop the back seats to get at them. That's it for the handbook. Glovebox Lamp - 501 (W5W) - 5w - P&P == This looks like a sod to get to, probably need to remove the glovebox to do. No reflector here either so another COB is a good idea. I'll post a guide when I get around to it =] Dome Lights - ?? - ?? - ?? == Already LED's in mine so need some info here. Are there also rear domes in Zetecs? Also, does anyone know if there are bulbs behind the door reflectors? I'm sure mine lit up at one point with the ambient lights but they don't seem to now...
  22. Help!!!

Hi guys anyone here have managed or saw a mk3 2011, 2012 and 2013 focus that used to have the stranded blue screen and has upgraded to the 2014, 2015, 2016 and 2017 touchscreen with sat nav and all the goodies! I've seen lots of this screens up on eBay and they are going for good prices and don't want to buy it and then it doesn't fit or maybe it fits from what i see but maybe it won't work. Thanks hope someone out there has answers as i really need an upgrade .
  23. Hi everyone, I am new to this and I have a mk3 2012 Ford Focus and I love this car to bits. Anyway I was wondering if you all can help me by answering if anyone with a 2012 focus or 2013 managed to change the radio to the one with the screen and sync like the 2016/17 Ford Focus or like the 2013 Ford ST screen with the sat nav and like the original Radio not the android one or the once you get in Radio shops. hope people have answers as I a need a screen in my car, that's the only thing missing in the car
  24. Hi All I have 2012 UK Focus MK3 Titanium and I'm looking in to what is required to change the interior Ambient Lighting to the multi-colour option you get with the Titanium X. At present I do have the ambient lighting but it's the fixed red colours. I have foot well, front door storage and handle area along with the cup holder area lighting up in red. I've checked the wiring to the foot well and there is a cable with 3 wires going in to the current red LED, but the LED board only makes use of two of them. So I was wondering if it's the same wiring? I am aware I will need to purchase the new multi colour LED's from Ford and also the Titanium X control module near the interior sunglasses holder to the attached image (I just have a blanking plate in mine) Is there anything else required? Has anyone tried? Thank you kindly. J
  25. New Ford Focus mk3 facelift

Hello everyone. I recently traded in my mondeo st for something a lot newer and it was a sad day but it needed to happen. I have driven it about for a few days but it seams that there is something wrong with the parking sensors. When I come to a stop or low speed my front sensors come up and go straight to red as if something is really close to the car but it isn't. Could any of you shine a light onto this as to what I possible could be? Sorry this isn't the best explanation but I don't know how else to explain it. Cheers now Jon.
