  1. Hello Everyone, Anyone experienced intermittent lumpy idle/hunting on the Mondeo 2.2 TDCi ST?? (or any TDCi for that matter?!?) Driving Dad's car for a bit while he's out of action and apparently its been doing this a while! Will idle fine, even when cold... then all of a sudden revs will fluctuate between 1k and 500 rpm... then everything will settle again. Happens when cold, warm, after long runs... I have a video, that i'll try to link to shortly! Tried fuel cleaners, injector cleaners, Supreme fuels, normal fuels... just about everything... also happened before, and since car came back from the service. Any help you can give would be appreciated!
  2. hi all ive got a 57 plate mondeo 1.8 tdci titanium x estate and its due a timing belt due to age. ford tell me it has a wet belt not a chain. just wondering if any of you know of a conversion from wet belt to chain and rough cost?

    Greetings, A new member here who found these forums while searching for general info on a Focus Zetec 1.5 120PS diesel (I take delivery of a 2015 model on Wednesday). The reason I'm no longer driving my beloved 10 year old Mondeo is because the oil filter fell off last week after being serviced at a main dealer a couple of days before! The engine damage was terminal, hence the Focus coming into my possession as part of a generous recompense by the dealer (as well as me parting with a load of cash!). I look forward to bugging all the experts in the Focus Club whenever I need any help! Paul
  4. light cluster wires with arrow.pdf Hello, I have a rear view camera (https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B01DTTZQ0C/ref=od_aui_detailpages00?ie=UTF8&psc=1) I want to wire into the reversing lights of my Mondeo Mk3. I currently have a front facing camera installed (clipped over the rear view mirror) and I want the rear view camera to automatically pop up when I select reverse gear. The pictures I have added are (starting from the top); 1- The two rear camera connectors, the phono jack goes directly into the front camera/screen unit and the black and red bi-wire is what is to be wired into the reversing lights. 2- The near side, rear, light cluster connector, wire termination points . As you face the car's rear it is on the left (passenger side) and located under a plastic panel. The left of the image is the top and each port is numbered 1-7 (I can't see how to rotate the image on this). 3- The rear camera 4-Manufacturer's installation instructions (generic, Chinese) 5-Link to pdf image, where I have added an arrow using a photo editor to indicate wire(s) I think I need to use. 6-The near side, rear, light cluster connector, wire termination points (Front of ports). As you face the car's rear it is on the left. 7-The near side, rear, light cluster connector, wire termination points (Back of ports). As you face the car's rear it is on the left. 8-The connections I tried ; Red from the camera into 5 port and Black from the camera into 6 port. Ideally, I have just missed a thread/wiki/tutorial where someone has done this and someone can point me in the right direction. Failing that, has anybody already done this and can you tell me how you connected the wires? So looking at other threads discussing the wire locations the red wire from the camera needs to be connected to the green and black wire (reverse left) in port 5 and the black wire needs to be connected to the black wire in port 6 (Earth). I have tried jamming the exposed camera wire ends into the correct ports and then tested the camera. The rear camera showed up as PIP( picture in picture) being the smaller of the two images as a constant feed. When I put the car into reverse gear I expected the image feeds to invert showing me the rear camera feed as the main image and the forward facing image the smaller PIP, but there was no change and the image stayed as it was. Does anybody have any ideas as to how I can configure this set-up so that when I go into reverse the smaller rear camera image turns into a full-screen image on the mirror with the front facing image taking up the smaller PIP? ***In the end, this method did work exactly as shown and described, maybe ram the exposed cable ends in instead of jamming them in. Held them in with sparky tape. Ran rear camera wire through door sills trunking down near side and up through pillar and across to top of mirror. I have mounted camera on inside of rear windscreen at the top in the centre of the brake light. Because of the angle of the glass on the boot I would say if your primary reason for install is as a reversing cam then you need to install camera outside the car, probably around the number plate somewhere as I can't really see any more than if I just look out the back window. Might change position later if I get time, not too fussed at the mo.*** Will leave this up in case anyone else wants the info.

  6. So I have a 2002 mk3 mondeo tddi with fixed vane turbo. Engine part is still more or less stock ( had the dmf to smf conversion done) I have read some different forums/posts and come to a conclusion that the car could problably use a bit more boost/power because well..boost ! :) The easiest (cheapest) would be to install a boost gauge and a manual boost control valve. My questions at this point are. 1. How much boost does the stock setup produce 2. How much can the stock piping take 3. When will the ECU understand that i am messing about with it and go into fault 4. At what point do i risk runing it too lean. So that the injectors, pump fail to come up with enough fuel. If i have overlooked a topic that covers these questions already, then feel free to post a link and point me in the right direction. Thank you
  7. Hi Gang, Getting to be a bit of a long story, but here we go! Problem: Vehicle Speedo drops out when the engine gets warm. Garage: They thought it was the VSS, replaced the vss and it still keeps happening. Auto Electrician 1: Was convinced it's the speedo dial / cluster. Temporary replaced with a working unit and it kept on happening. Auto Electrician 2: This guy was much better than technician 1. Fully tested the loom back to the vss with no fault. Hooked it up at the vss to laptop and we drove til it cut out. The pulse started to deteriorate before finally cutting out with no reading. He asked if I had a clutch replaced which I thought was odd until i realised it was after a month or so with the new clutch it started to happen. He tested the VSS when the engine was still warm and when turning the end the dial still worked. So where next? I don't think I need auto electrician 3; am I better to find a gearbox / clutch specialist? Anyone know what spins the vss inside the gearbox? Anyone know why this would cause problems only when hot? I need to get this sorted but already hit just over £500 to date technically 'investigating'. Cheers
  8. It started out looking like this... As time went by, It turned into this.... It all started when I joined another Mondeo owners forum and as I looked through the pictures of other people's cars, I was made aware of what I could have. I started upgrading the front bumper with a facelift one from a scrapped 2003 model. I didn't want the front fogs at the time so I just got it sprayed to match the car, removed the fog moulds from the back then stuck black mesh in the gaps where the front fogs would once sit, and the centre grill. It looked hideous..... That's when I knew I wanted to go the full-works and get the ST kit installed, so I did. I replaced the rear lights with from the boring-looking standard ones with a new set of facelift ST ones.... Next, came the Rear ST bumper only with my own little touch on it. I wasn't fond of the standard grill inserts so I decided to try the black mesh look again and this time I was very pleased... I installed some parking sensors aswell and also replaced the boot trim with another facelift part that had the chrome lip, just above the reg plate. I then realised that I liked the chrome look too, so I then replaced the door handles and weather strips with official chrome trim ones... I wasn't finished there. I then wanted to get the facelift Honeycomb front grill which had a chrome surround. So when that arrived, I got it sprayed in Panther Black to match the car then put that on too... Dismantled my headlights next and sprayed them black and got some Halo rings installed... Next up was changing the front bumper again, only this time I decided to go with a Zetec S bumper and the front fogs and added a few more touches of my own. I got the front fog moulds sprayed to match the car and added some chrome stripping. I know the chrome stripping is not for everyone, but I thought it gave the car a really nice finish... The alloy's where next on the list so I wanted to go with a multispoke design and I like the 18" ZS design from Ford so I got a second hand set of those and got them sprayed to look nice and tidy. I also took a long trip to part exchange a pair of 'preface' ST side skirts with a pair of official Zetec S skirts. I discovered that I had to replace the front wings to get the ST skirts to fit but that wasn't a road I wanted to travel down. Got the Zetec S skirts installed aswell... Last up was overhauling my interior. I completely removed the centre dash console and replaced the radio with a double din unit from Clarion that had 1000+ colours options to choose from to match any interior lighting, speakers, facelift controls, leather seats (door cards too), and interior lighting from the standard green to red (that was a long day!!) and the results were worth it... The last things left to do was give it a buff with a some G6 and a mop to get that mirror image shine... (this too was another looonnnggg day) Sadly, I had to let her go to another owner. I had a young family building up and I knew where I wanted my priorities to be. The next owner completely trashed it and I got this really gut-wrenching feeling inside when I first saw it about a month later, I was heartbroken! Have not seen it for sometime now, I like to think it got sold on to someone who cared more but I will never know. This is now my new pride and joy... I'm sure you have seen many examples of these cases and they always have a unique feel to them. Thanks for taking the time to read and view! I hope you enjoyed it.
  9. Hi All, I thought I would try and make this more open to the public as Ford seem to be doing everything they can to not tell customers about this issue. I own a 58 plate (Registered 09) Ford Focus 1.8 TDCI Duratorq, since the car was new it has suffered from 2 issues. Issue 1 - While driving on the motorway the car will have intermittent hesitations when accelerating. This will usually happen then naturally allowing the car to decrease speed by taking your foot off the accelerator then applying it again. This can also happen when just cruising in 5th. Issue 2 - This cannot be replicated however randomly you can get a violent jolt forward with the error displayed on the dash "Engine Malfunction". The car will go into limp mode then when you pull over turn the ignition off, wait a minute and start again will be cleared and free to drive normally again. My car has been into Ford for this issue during its warranty period and after it expired to be told there were error codes relating to a particular injector however they were telling me all 4 needed replacing at £1500. The issue was so intermittent and could go months without it happening I have not yet had them replaced. I cover 350 miles a week commuting and can got weeks/months with no occurrences of this. Ford have never told me about a known issue with the injectors until recently when I took my car to the Ford dealership in Eastleigh, Hampshire. One of their service department told me they were aware of a known issue with a batch of injectors ending in the part number 3. While my car was in for diagnostics they advised all 4 of my injectors ended in 3 and would need replacing at guess what... you got it £1500. I argued that surely if this was a known issue with a bad batch Ford should replace these. They said not and the car is out of warranty so I will have to foot the bill. I asked whether there was any documentation on this however they said no, even their customer services director categorically told me nothing existed after checking with their service desk. I have since found out online and from help from the guys on this forum and other that there is in fact a TSB (technical service bulletin) released by Ford documenting which cars are affected and saying what I had been told about the injectors ending in 3. The TSB is TSB 27/2012 dated 14/05/12 and affects 1.8L Duratorq-TDCi (Lynx) engines between 2008/2009. It affects the Focus, Mondeo, C-Max, Transit connect and Tourneo. The title of the bulletin is "Excessive combustion noise and or hesitation during light load acceleration with the engine at high operating temperature". I don’t believe I can post the bulletin in full due to copyright however I can pm this to anyone interested. The bulletin states that there are PCM calibrations released to try and help the injector nozzle performance however Ford failed to tell me about the TSB or the PCM calibrations once in all the times my car was in for diagnostics. I have raised a complaint with Ford regarding this however they are unwilling to replace the parts at their cost, I have told them I am willing to pay for the labour however I don’t feel I should foot the bill for the parts given they were fitted from brand new faulty. I have so far got them to discount the price from £1500 to £1100 then recently a further 30% off this price. Still not happy as still leaves me with a £6-£700 bill to replace faulty parts they fitted. I would advised contacting Mark Ovende via this email address - movende1@ford.com He is the MD at Ford Motor Company. Mark will not respond however you will get a call back from the Ford Head Office. I was initially told they wouldn’t do anything however after continuous emails and phone called I have got them to discount the total initial quote by around 50%. It appears Ford are doing whatever they can to not tell customers about this issue so they have to pay out a fortune to replace parts that were not fit for purpose. Ford should issue a recall as this affects a lot of cars and is potentially dangerous. The fact they are not even telling customers there is a PCM update which could help is shocking, the go straight for the replacements instead. A free or £95 PCM update or £1500 to replace all 4 injectors....... disgusting. I want to try let as many people know about this as I can so they dont get lied to and forced into spending thousands when a PCM update might fix it. Ford should replace these parts at their cost not the customers regardless of warranty on the car. This whole situation has put me off buying another Ford especially from the dealerships I have dealt with. Regards Allister

    So how do i start this other than saying, being in this industry for so many years i have seen the brilliant to the extreme cowboy.Check my wheels tv will be providing video tutorials starting at the basics ranging up to the high voltage,Which is where the world is heading towards, we would of all heard about the 2040 big news and how not one combustion engine will be produced in the u.k and most likely europe for that matter. I belive we need to raise the awarness of how important, 1. Auto electrics are in todays world and 2. How important it is in tommorows world. I would like to know everybodies thoughts on this topics as well, not of the learning topic but more of the 2040. What type of business are you in and the effects of this new law.   13. Hello everyone - could do with some guidance for an ongoing problem that needs to be sorted now - 2011 Mondeo Titanium XS 2.2 Duratorq. It is running quite rough and there are some worrying flat spots, they appear upon acceleration in 4th, 5th and 6th gears when the engine is under the most load and at around 2/3K revs. When this happens the Engine Malfunction light comes on and the car jumps straight into limp, when I turn off the engine and switch it back on the warning has gone along with limp, all back to normal basically (there is no trace of error codes as a result by the way). To avoid this happening I find myself (particularly on motorways and dual carriageways) having to keep the revs high and drive quite aggressively - for example if I went into cruise control at 60mph in 4th or 5th the issue would occur, this means the fuel economy is poor too. If it means anything, when I try to accelerate and can feel the acceleration not happening I know I will get a malfunction, so sometimes I can avoid it by taking my foot off the pedal and gently re-applying it, sometimes it works and acceleration kicks in....it's as if there is a problem with the flow of fuel. Looking online everything points towards an issue with either the Fuel Filter, EGR Valve or Injectors. To try and ensure getting it sorted I am tempted to bite the bullet and take it to Ford in Leeds...but for £ purposes I would rather not do that. I have just gone through 35 litres of diesel with Wynnes Extreme Clean in too, this hasn't made a difference. Could anyone provide thoughts and advice? and any recommendations of a a good garage or independent in Leeds would be greatly appreciated too....I have a long drive coming up August Bank Holiday and don't want to drive aggressively with the wife and kids in the car fearing for their lives!   14. Hi all, hope someone could help with a noise on my ST220. This is the noise I'm talking about. Its coming from both rear wheels, but mostly rear left. Engine is turned off in video. It only starts after the car has travelled over a few miles, and it's more prevalent on a hot day. It doesn't seem to go away when the brakes are pushed, and the noise is tied to car moving speed. I jacked the car up (albeit when cold) and checked the calipers, regreased slide pins, regreased the pads and checked to make sure handbrake was releasing properly. Everything brake wise seemed fine, pads are a couple years old but have LOADS of material left. Discs don't seem warped. Wheels seemed to turn freely. My only other thought is whether it's the hubs. The sound seems like a rubber squealing (or like a squeegee on glass), and the only bits of moving rubber I know of are in the rear hub. Rear left has suddenly got very loud today, and right has slowly started aswell. Any input or opinions are appreciated, and sorry for the long post. Cheers, Tom

Hi everyone I bought this 2.0 litre tdci 57 plate mondeo about 4 days ago it's the 140bhp zetec, lovely car I bought it because my 2.0 litre petrol ghia blew up haha .. anyway it seems a little strange when I start up the new mondeo it makes a whistling/high-pitched humming sound possibly the starter motor but I'm unsure if this is normal?? I'm going to attempt to attach a video of it starting up to see if you know what I'm going on about.. thanks in advance ok I can't upload the video any advice on where to upload video for people to listen??
  16. HELP! AUX BROKEN.

    Hello people, I'm new to this. So I'm unsure if I am posting in the right area. I have recently purchased a Ford Mondeo 2010 MK4 model and was wanting to use the aux that is in the glove box, but unfortunately the previous owner has broken his jack off in the port. I tried using a magnetic screwdriver to try pull it out but that did not work and I have tried many youtube video ideas, but all ultimately have failed. So what I was wanting to ask, because I cannot seem to find the answer anywhere online is how do I take the glove box out to examine the extent of the damage to the aux port/do I even need to remove the glove box. Can anybody please help!!!???
  17. Aircon issues. Please help! I have a MK4 Mondeo 2012 plate. I recently had the condenser changed due to a bird strike. Condenser was changed and the system regassed. The aircon was working fine, blowing approx. 5 C at the vent. Everything was working fine until the period of hot weather. I was driving, aircon working fine, stopped and parked for about 15 minutes, when I restarted, the aircon was blowing outside air. I took it back to the garage that carried out the work and the pressure in the system was just above 12 bar, they also could not drain the system. I carried out some investigation. When I press the aircon button on idle, there is no drop in revs The compressor fails to engage The 15A fuse is good The cooling fan engages as it should when the engine gets hot. There are no codes on my OBD reader On the aircon self-test (I have the touch screen) it has 2 error codes 0xff and 0x4f, I have no idea what they mean or where I can find that info out without paying Ford. I drained a bit of gas to see if it had been overfilled (high pressure switch) What should I do next and / or what do people think is wrong?

So i have not long had my 07 plate Mondeo 2.0TDCi Titanium X but have noticed that if ipress the clutch in slightly there is a whirring noise... once i have got to the bite point and passed that the noise stops. There is no noise either when i have my foot off the pedal only when i press it slightly. Any ideas? Also don't know if it is related but there is a slight judder in 2nd gear when i release the clutch. Cheers Mark

I'm looking for a cold air intake for my Mondeo, I'm not a fan of the flat panel filters because they seem to clog up really fast with debris, usually taking a handful of leaves out every month or so. K&N don't seem to think they have one that will fit but searches take me to the 57i and a Ram Air one popped up but I can't remember which one. Has anyone one here taken the risk with an Induction/Cold air intake from a different model Ford and succeeded or have any advice for me? I've got the Mondeo TDCI Duratorq 1.8L (QYBA) engine.   21. Hello, I'm new to the forum and was hoping I might be able to get some advice. I've just converted a horse trailer into a catering unit weighing about 1500KG and i've been advised by a number of people to get a diesel mondeo estate as they're pretty cheap and reliable. I'm wanting to spend no more than £2000 Do some 2.0TDCi variants get better MPGs than others or are they all the same? Do any versions have an aux input? What are the key repair jobs I need to be looking out for? flywheel? etc etc Thank you for your time, Tom
  22. Help please

    I've had a squeling noise coming from the engine when I first started the car for a few days, it happens for the first few minutes of the car running, more so when the battery has been used also when I turn my steering wheel full lock. I assumed it was the serpentine belt, however when driving home yesterday my car lost all power, and was making a bit of a clunking noise, The battery light also came on and I lost all power steering. Again, this pointed to the serpentine belt snapping. However, I've looked at the belt and its there, it's even spinning when the car ignition is turned. When the ignition is turned the car won't turn over, I can hear a spinning sound but won't fire up. I've put it in first gear and turned the ignition and the car pulled forward so starter motor is fine. Completely baffled any help much appreciated
  23. Hi all, I'm fighting a losing battle against rust with my MK2 Focus saloon and starting to consider other options as a relatively cheap replacement. I know the 2.2 TDCI in the MK3 ST is the Ford Puma unit but struggling to find out if it has a dpf? (I know they fitted a DPF when it was fitted to Jaguars after a certain build date) I've enjoyed the bulletproof reliability of my 1.8 TDCI Lynx engine with no DPF and have no desire to add to the stress in my life by waiting for a DPF to block! Could any of the regulars that have had a MK3 ST TDCI or still have once confirm if the model ever had a DPF fitted?
  24. Just a quick question… does anyone have a Ford Mondeo 2015 or newer (new shape)?? My car listed above has a tyre pressure monitor on it, I have inflated it a few times but every week now it goes off saying the pressure is low (but not flat). I have topped it up according to the manual for the bar/PSI and reset the monitor, give it a week, same thing. Not sure if I have a slow puncture and the tyre monitor doesn’t give individual tyre pressure readings (it’s all or nothing), just wondering if anyone else had the same issue? Don’t really want to go to Kwik Fit for them to tell me there is nothing wrong….
  25. Hi, First time poster looking for help (and I *did* do a search on this before posting, but nothing obvious popped up. My apologies if I missed something and have caused annoyance...;-)). My 2010 Mondeo 2.0 TDCi auto has an analogue instrument cluster and the light around the temperature gauge flickers intermittently. The gauge itself seems to be fine. I am lead to believe that the lights are LEDs rather than bulbs and that the only way to correct the flicker is to replace the entire instrument cluster. Is this correct? If so, stupid question No. 1, is there any difference between analogue clusters for manual and autos? Stupid question No. 2, is it possible to replace the analogue cluster with a digital one? Are the connections similar? Thanks for your time! Regards, djp
