Chris Ecc
I noticed today that the petrol cap on my mk 7 zs doesn't actually lock, I'm not sure if this is a fault (another one to add to the list maybe?) or is it designed this way? My old car (corsa) the cap locked and it does on my bro's polo just seems strange to me
Jonny87
I don't know why you've added a poll to this thread. It's not exactly a matter of opinion. There is no lock on the fuel cap of the Mk7 Trust me on this, it's a true fact... ....how many times have we been through this before??............. My old car (corsa) the cap locked and it does on my bro's polo just seems strange to me Designed like that. Other cars either have a lock on the outer flap and an internal cap that just screws off or an external flap that just comes open and a key lock on the fuel cap (like my old Mk4 Fiesta). As far as I can see it, you need a lock on the cap/flap for one of two reasons: Stop people nicking the fuel Stop people nicking the filler cap As the Mk7 has no physical cap, maybe Ford decided it didn't need a lock either as siphoning should in theory be stopped by this special arangement in the filler neck? Chris Ecc
Jonny87 - The poll is there to see if people can open it whilst its locked, I though that was self explanatory tbh. A Poll by definition can be used to collect actual data not opinion and how many time have we been through this by my count since I joined (october) we havnt. Coysht - Hmmm I suppose but you can use an adaptor that would then let someone attempt to steal your fuel, just seemed abit strange to me

Calm down Mr. Ecc :) "The poll is there to see if people can open it whilst its locked" Like I said: It doesn't lock I though that was self explanatory tbh Not really seeing as: It doesn't lock A Poll by definition can be used to collect actual data not opinion This doesn't make sense how many time have we been through this by my count since I joined (october) we havnt. Search button? By the way, did I mention it doesn't lock?
sarahlegs
I realised mine didn't lock when I came home from work last week to find that I was missing the fuel flap/door! Went back and found it half way down the road but now it doesn't close properley so into ford I go on Saturday:-(
AndrewL
The fuel flap doesn't lock and I've thought of some pretty good reasons why... As I discovered the other day it's got a pretty decent anti siphon feature. The nozzle will only open to a fuel pump or the special plastic thing that you get given by Ford in the spare tyre compartment so no-one with a grudge can pour sugar in it. A lock on the flap looks messy and you can scratch the paint around it with the key trying to find the hole. A fuel cap inside the flap could scratch your paintwork if it's on a tether when it hangs down and you've got nowhere to put it if it isn't. If unlocks with the rest of the car then you have to have all of the doors unlocked when you're refuelling - at which point someone could be stealing all of your stuff a la the real hustle. It's a pretty good design by Ford imo - they seem quite proud of it anywho.
coysht
Coysht - Hmmm I suppose but you can use an adaptor that would then let someone attempt to steal your fuel, just seemed abit strange to me I believe there is something deeper in the filler neck to prevent siphoning like a grill or mesh or something - same as on most other vehicles. Still doesn't stop someone putting something into your tank if they have an appropriately sized bit of tube....but then I don't know how common that sort of thing is these days. sarahlegs
Went into ford today to see if they can do anything about the fuel door/flap. It has to be replaced and as the filler neck has to come out will be in for a day or two. However on the plus side they have agreed to repair it under warranty. Also finally getting the drivers door reset as it seems to have dropped and is no longer sitting flush. :-( Anyone had a problem with their doors? Yes, I've had a very small leak round my drivers door. Dealer fitted a new door seal before Christmas which it hasn't helped, but I've noticed that the doors on a colleagues Fes seem to fit a little more flushly than mine. Mine are sitting slightly out from the body. Need another discussion with my dealer I think.

The passenger door was a little out of align too but that got fixed in December, however they tried to fob me off with the Drivers door. However thought i'd mention it again today but to a different guy and he's under the impression that it doesn't seem to be sitting flush either, so hopefully will get sorted when its in getting the fuel door sorted. :D

DanGull
What is it with sarcastic comments at the moment? They're getting to the point where they're less than funny - and starting to annoy an awful lot of people. If you haven't got anything helpful to contribute to the post - or can't at least post it in a polite way - then leave the topic alone. The specs of new cars change all the time - just because one mk7s petrol cap doesn't lock, doesn't mean that none of them do - the post is perfectly valid. Plus - while the search function is very useful and does turn up a lot of good answers, it's not perfect and not having any new topics on FOC would be rather tedious don't you think? Jonny87
I agree with most of what you said Dan. Although the fact is that there is no lock on the Mk7, also, there was no lock, and there probably will never be any lock. However, if Ford do change the spec for this, at that point there will be a lock, but until that time there is still no lock. No matter what people vote in the above poll. GL ALL! :)
Flic
What is it with sarcastic comments at the moment? ChrisZetecS
Agreed. Not liking the tone of the forum at the moment. Hopefully it'll change back to how it used to be... Also agreed. What's the point, the lads only trying to find out some info about his new car, no need to get snotty with him. Some things that are obvious to those of us that have owned the Mk7 longest might not be so obvious to some newer owners. Plus I was under the impression that the whole point of this forum is to find out info about our cars and chat about them with other owners, amongst other things. P.S this whole thread is my fault because Chris Ecc asked me on Facebook and I didn't see it until he'd posted this thread
Tony_M
As has aleady been said, all Mk.7 Fiestas are likely to never have a locking fuel cap, thus breaking with a necessary tradition since leaping oil/petrol prices in about 1973-74 caused a spate of fuel thefts. Surely what is more to the point is, how do we all feel about this, ie. can we be confident that Ford, in what was probably a cost-saving move but described as an improvement (like substituting the spare wheel + jack with a compressor & sealant) have got it right, and that our expensive fuel is safe from theft and deliberate contamination by vandals? I would like to see some kind of official reassuring statement from Ford, but I have yet to find anything in Ford brochures, adverts, web-pages, or Fiesta handbook on this subject. They seem to be very reluctant to say anything on the subject - Ford Customer Services haven't answered my queries in writing, only told me verbally and vaguely that they understood there is some kind of one-way valve below the visible shutter operated by the fuel pump nozzle or Ford plastic funnel, to prevent syphoning also some kind of device to protect the fuel from tampering.
