jocojohn
Hi and welcome to the site, In case you missed my earlier post, my sons 99 1.6 lx focus has the following problem; about 15 seconds after starting the car, the ignition/charge light will come on ande stay on. the alternator has been changed and another battery tried, the battery will charge ok at about 13.5 to 14 volts and does not go flat. we have read that it might be an idea to remove the instrument cluster, brush clean, dry out then spray with WD 40 or similar along with checking the PCB contacts, Do you think this is a likely cause of the problem, or maybe a bad earth or ECU fault. Any help with this would be great, Thanks, John
the controller
This repair is not backed by Ford, but might be worth while removing the cluster and looking at the printed circut and looking for corrosion, if the battery is charging at over 13 volts with the engine running and a load applied then the charging sytem seems to working. Ford at doing an offer of a cluster replacment for £99 inclusive of parts and labour.
