hello i have a focus 1.8 Mp3 2003, in january i took my car to ford because the clutch release bearing was rattling so at the same while it was in the work shop they replaced the clutch,

I got the car back to find the clutch release bearing was just slightly rattling but just thought thats how they were, then the next day i pulled up with the car still running got out of the car and noticed it was making like a knocking sound had abit of a rumble to it as well but it dissapered once you pressed the clutch pedal (bearing in mind that the car had only just been started and driven half a mile)

So i rang my local ford dealer and took the car back and they replaced the pressure plate and the clucth release bearing again.

Just got the car back the other day exact same thing again it was making that noise

Can any one tell me what the problem might be because i dont think the ford garage know

Thanks

Tony

I suspect when you took it back they thought.....what is his problem he can select the gears FFS, so did bugger all to it [who are they going to book the time to, if not you? and you aren't going to pay for their !Removed! ups are you] they told you a !Removed! and bull story and just hope you go away.

My advice is:

You need to get a second opinion better if you can get it from another Ford garage, but not essential. Don't tell them what you think the problem is or you have already had it done at another Ford garage, and see what they say. If they come to the same conclusion its the clutch release bearing, go back to the garage you had it do at and tell them you want it putting right. You have fulfilled your part of the contract by paying them to put it right, you need them now to fulfil their part of the contract. when they offered a price to do the job and you agreed to their terms, you had then both entered into a legally binding contract. No joy, threaten them with the Trading Standards and or the Small Claims Court. But obviously try the softly softly approach first, soft but firm. You need to make them realise your not going to be fobbed off. If all fails then go in with the threats. With companies that don't fulfil their contractual obligations, you have got to make them realise that making you happy is going to be their best option.

How much have they charged you for the job in total?

Forgot to say Welcome to the board .

thanks very much, i didnt pay for it as i got it done under warranty, i really do think they took the gearbox off the second time casue the clutch was really light cause they had to replace the release bearing again and the pressure plate.

Thing is i dont think they will be fobing me off though because they are giving me a courtsey car and i had that for a week

Do you have any rough ideas to wat it might be?

Also should a brand new clutch release bearing rattle slightly or not?

Cause mine does and even the first time when they put one in it did the same then it started knocking like it has done this time but no where near as much now last time i heard the knocking noise was sunday havent heard it since

ive read its a common thing with the fords not rattling though but a slight whine rattling isnt normal no matter what they say to you gearboxes dont rattle unless something is not fitted correctly if the rattle appears etc take it back

True,

both my Mk1 1.8 and my present Mk2 1.6 had/have no noise or rattle issues related to the clutch or gear box, or clutch pedal.
