Anyone has a standard factory fit Ford 6000CD radio/player in their car. Do you know if it will handle discs burnt in mp3?

Had a 6000CD in my old Escort, would play burnt audio discs, but not MP3 discs.

Even the CD6000 in my 59 plate Zetec S wont play mp3's :(

There was one Focus model that was dubbed "mp3 model" that did play mp3's but I'm

pretty sure the player wasn't a CD6000.

It won't play MP3 CDs but you can buy an adapter kit that makes the player think it has a multichanger connected and so you can plug in an iPod or whatever. I bought one as per the post below and it took all of 20 seconds to fit (you will need the removal tool as well which you can get off eBay for a fiver)

Thanks guys.....think i'll stick with what i've got then as i dont intend keeping the car too long.

Just pees me off that the cd unit which should have been with the model Focus i have, has been removed (suspect the dealer as it was traded in) and a radio/tape player stuck in!

Quite right.....

I had a similar unit on my old 2003 Zetec CD6000, which I used to feed the audio from my CarPC through the car's speaker system...........this allowed the volume to be controlled via the steering column controls.

It was made by a Company called "Connect2" who design and sell variants for most car manufacturers......anyone interested Google will get you the site.

The older MKI/1.5 had no MP3 compatibility, other than the headunit found in the Focus MP3, which, not surprisingly, played MP3 burned to a CD-R. Very hard to get hold of and go for very silly money on eBay.

In the MKII, you had to upgrade to the Sony headunit to get MP3 capability, but opting for the 6 CD changer would delete the MP3 functionality.

For further complication, upgrading to the 7" satnav unit, meant you would get MP3 capability on the headunit and a 6CD changer too (that only played regular audio CDs).

Whew.
