I am turning 17 and i am deciding which car to get? I can get either a ford fiesta zetec 1.2 or 1.4 (but 1.4 at a slight extra cost) or the ford style 1.25. All of them 3 door and 2006. I am not sure which would be best for me. I would like it to look quite sporty also and of course to be quick. And i dont want it to look like an older persons car. So which would you recomend for my age?

1.25 would be better on insurance and itsnt much slower than the 1.4

They all drive near enough the same but if you can get a zetec (Y)

id deffo get the 1.4 is much smother and quieter, also more economical, i no as we own a 1.25 2005 fiesta and a 2006 1.4 fiesta, the 1.25 sounds very course and is just to underpowered with more then 1 person in the car also u have to use quite alot of revs to get it going and it dosent run well in high gears and low revs, wheres as the 1.4 wich only has a few more bhp runs much more smoothly is much more refined and is a little better on fuel as u have to rev the knakers of the 1.25 to get it going , the 1.4 will easily run at 30 in 5th gear the 1,25 will not, ( i am talking about the mk 6 and mk 6.5 fiesta by the way i havent a clue about the new mk7, we have a diesel mk 7 1.4 tdci zetec and the car is great the engine is rubbish!!!) also if u are a new driver check out www.youngmarmalade.co.uk !! so just to confim id deffo pay the extra for the 1.4 and id go zetec with 15 inch wheels , the 16 inches maked to ride to firm and makes the car creak alot over rough roads !!! hope this helps :):):)

it pulls off alright i would say my 1.25 mk7, just change gears when it hits around 25k revs and your up too 30 in no time... and as for cruising in the higher gears at 30, it seems to do it fine not gonna change speed too quickly if you put your foot down but revs stay below 2000 and all is good :) and as for mpg i averaging around 34.8.... i would go for a 1.4 if i had the choice now but at the time a 1.25 was right for me, and think its a crackin first car :)

Wife has the 1.25 and it feels just the same as the 1.4 we tried, also sounds no different imo, I am talking about the 80ps version though on a mk7

I had a mk6 1.25 and it was absolutely fine, it wan't fast by any stretch but it was pretty nippy in 1st, 2nd and 3rd gears. On the motorway it was sluggish but that's to be expected really. Fuel consumption was pretty decent - about 42mpg probably overall and it didn't use a drop of oil.

I also drove the 1.4 on a few occasions and it felt more or less identical, maybe a little bit more flexible but nothing obvious.

Also, if you can get it go for the Zetec over the style better equipment and looks better. On the mk 6 facelift - fogs, alloys, spoiler, trip computer, nicer seat material, silver trim (on dash, door pulls, steering wheel and gear knob), leather covered steering wheel air con usually, heated screen, probably more but that's all I can think of off the top of my head.

Personally I'd choose spec over engine size.

My first car was a Fiesta with a 1.25 engine and it was a great little car.

For a 17 year old all a larger engine is going to do is cost more to insure and make it that much easier to loose your licence and/or have an accident.

See what your budget will stretch to and remember that you'll have to insure it at stupid prices for a good few years, so a saving of a couple of hundred a year on insurance will add up over the time you have the car.
